I can say something only about 80D and it is an amazing camera. It's bigger, but it means more buttons which turns it easier to use. That second screen is very useful when I photograph by the viewfinder, it shows important informations and settings. It's a complete camera and I recommend it for everyone.

If you're a photographer and wanna take pics for clients, 80D would be a better choice because it's big, feels better to hold, it definitely looks more professional than the small light m50 camera in the eyes of most clients who don't know anything about photography and cameras because they would think that the m50 is similar to the one they might have at home which is a regular affordable digital camera.

Great comparison vid! The M50 really looked good up against the 80D! As a prior owner of the 77D which also had digital stabilization, I will say it worked pretty well. People mention being able to do the same thing in post but it takes so long if you wanted to fix stabilization in post for a video. It's great to have it in camera.
Where it is really going to shine is using it in 4K on a camera that does not have a crazy crop. That little bit of crop you get from digital stabilization won't effect PQ at all when recording in 4K.
While I am currently using a Sony a6500, I will say you would never know this camera has in-body stabilization when recording handheld video. It's still so shaky.
I just wish the M50 would had a little more to it. I gave it a tough look but it just had a few short comings that kept me away from it.

Great comparison! If you can't decide....get both 😀 I own both and really like both for different reasons....and with adapters I share many lenses. The 80d is a joy to use because even though it is big in the hand, all the controls are intuitive and easy to use and for photography and bigger lenses it's great. For travel and vlogging and gimbal work the M50 is great.
Two recommendations...buy the M50 NOW with kit lens and the Canon EF-M to EF adapter for $649...best price ever at B&H and Amazon. One advantage of buying at B&H is that you can get Canon CarePak warranty for 3 years for under $100 and you have 90 days to decide. Also, Viltrox came out with a speed booster for the M50!.

Rookie Racers I've been looking at several UA-cam videos on cameras that compete with the Canon M50 (price range $500-$600) and I got to say the M50 has it all. Negatives - maybe it's made of a cheaper material than some [not verified] , dual pixel doesn't work in 4k [1080p for me] , a little smaller than the typical DSLR [I want something light n small] , those are minor things to me. Positives- Canon's latest processor digic 8, the quality of the videos and pictures, full rotation of the screen, easy-to-use, and not bulky convinced me that this is the camera for me and Everyday Dad uses it! Hell anything is upgrade from my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. That's what I've been filming my content on. LOL! Santa Claus will be getting me the Canon M50, I hope.

I am going to address one unique comment you made in this video.
Some people do get "weirded out" when they see someone with a big camera in their hands.
I have setup my Canon camcorder on a tripod and there are people who will try to interfere with you recording your video cause they assume you are breaking some sorta law.
And of course you get the typical A-holes types who feel the need to smudge up your lens with their fingers just cause they see a guy with a big camera and that's all they can think of to do.
So yes, having a smaller sized camera does reduce these types of things happening.

I even remember it has a couple of physical buttons....from time to time😂 If I had to list a gripe with the M50, it would be slow focus when I have a Tamron 18-400mm on it. Technically the m50 has more lenses (ef and efs with adapter, plus the native efm.) The 200d also has no 4k, older image processor. Pros are the battery life and price, but that's it

Crisul Angelo Macaraig the 200D has digic 7 processor which is an amazing processor. Also some cameras HD is better than some cameras 4K many cinema films r shot HD even tho the cams r 8K. 200D beats the m50 in terms of image quality any day.

Watching this in Aug 2022. I'm looking for a "starter" camera and have been trying to decide whether to go with an older DSLR (80D) or go with a mirrorless like the M50 Mark II. Right now, I can get either for the same price used. I like the size of the M50 but some of the limitations of the 4K capability is holding me back. I just saw a rumor for the M50 Mark III which is rumored to have better 4K video capabilities and 1080p @ 120fps. I'm hoping the rumors are true.

Honestly they both pair well together. My biggest issue with mirrorless is that the battery life sucks, and it just looks like a cheap toy. Really, they still have plastic lens mounts. The DSLR is a brick, but its a professional looking brick, and the 80D is built like a German Tank. I like the M50, but Canon could have done a much better job.

    • @TheEverydayDad
      @TheEverydayDad  5 років тому +2

As far as build quality goes I personally like how small the M50 is, I do agree however that they could have put better video specs into it at the price. It originally sold for as much as the GH4 which does much better 4k, much better 1080p and has an insane level of pro features built in.

Hm.. the 80d has a headphone jack, and the m50 has the digital sharpening/eis. But the real kicker I've found (with both cameras) is the bitrate. The 80d has 90 mbps for its beefy all-I codec at 1080p (30/24), while the m50 can only shoot 30 mbps at 1080p (30/24). Both can reach 60 mbps at 60 fps, but the difference in compression codec at 24 fps/30 fps is something that's kind of big! The 80d has more info in post to work with.
