You are correct, its a shame modern Ireland's politics seem to be shifting to neoliberalism and offshore banking though. Please don't let Ireland be ruined. My mum grew up in rural Ireland in the 1960s and apparently it was ROUGH back then but the people persevered. I'm from Atlantica (Atlantic Canada) and our diaspora population is really large; particularly northeastern Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, and Newfoundland. Our public school system is now offering Gaelic for 2nd language classes (instead of French), the road signs in some areas are English/Gaelic, people speak it still in rural areas - we're trying to keep it alive over here brother. If GAA was sanctioned here it would be almost as popular as ice hockey among the youth, so there is hope!
The GAA Intergalactic County Football & Hurling Championships are in full season right now. Every year it's goes through Summer up until September when we have our version of the Superbowl, the All-Ireland Final. Btw it's over or through the upright and that is why it only gets 1 pt. We're not that dumb ourselves ya know but thanks anyway for the laugh.
San Smurfy I'm an AFL guy, but I like GAA too. Is there an International Rules match this year? I hope we send our best players this time and not the B-team.
If you're interested, this is where Australian football gets a lot of its origins. Change the round ball to a rugby shaped ball and a couple other rules and you basically get Australian football.
The Gaelic Athletic Association is the governing body of four sports: hurling, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and rounders. Some people use the name GAA for Gaelic football, because it's their most popular sport. They're wrong. This is why the GAA hits video you saw had clips from both hurling and Gaelic football. This video is somewhat based on a similar one for hurling: "The Fastest Game on Grass", by Eammon. It's a great introduction to the game. And Ninh Ly (whose hurling video you watched) also has a Gaelic football video. He highlights a few similarities between the GAA's two main sports. ---- I now want to invent a game called Galactic football.
NYPD have a Gaelic football team, or at least they used to. Australian rules football is similar to Gaelic. The Aussies play AFL on an oval with an oval ball. Every few years Ireland and Australia play a hybrid international series in Australia and Ireland.
love playing it, picked up some nasty injuries haha, can't bend 3 fingers fully, back problems, teeth knocked out and guess what, no one gets paid for playing it...its crazy
Every 4 steps you hop it (bounce it) but not twice in a row and then you solo it (kik to ball to yourself) it is verry competitive sport and you can get really hert
its harder to score goals in football then what you think and these are all amateurs so don't get paid at all, should watch a match if you get a chance there's some hanging around
+ultrAs Life- Football/soccer started in England in the Middle Ages and was very simple to begin with, becoming more complex over the centuries,so it is old,but FAR from the oldest sport in the world! It is English, and as England and the English as an nation have only existed for just over a millenium (1000 years), how on Earth could it be? HURLING,another Irish sport which is also under the auspices of the Gaelic Athletic Association, is the oldest team game in the world! It is about 3000 years old because the Gaelic Irish have been in Ireland for at least that amount of time, perhaps even longer! You really should do some studying before you go making sweeping false declarations that are so easily shot down!
As irish people we should be so proud of our unique culture and heritage is so amazing
You are so right 👏👏

Jamez Robertz I googled it, it's on in November and hosted by Australia this year round.
Sean Smurfy Googled too. It's back to two matches this year, the venues are undetermined. If it's in Melbourne I'm going.
Good luck
@@EveryTongueShallTell "The GAA Intergalactic County Football & Hurling Championships" I burst out laughing man, props.
If you're interested, this is where Australian football gets a lot of its origins. Change the round ball to a rugby shaped ball and a couple other rules and you basically get Australian football.
Ireland and Australia play the International Rules competitions annually using a combination of their two rule sets.

Crossbar is the low bar over the net, above the bar and between the posts = 1 point, in the net = 3 points, net also has a goalie defending it.
You should be able to see how much this game has in common with both Aussie rules and more especially, hurling.
NYPD have a Gaelic football team, or at least they used to. Australian rules football is similar to Gaelic. The Aussies play AFL on an oval with an oval ball. Every few years Ireland and Australia play a hybrid international series in Australia and Ireland.

Hitting it in the goal is 3 pionts and hitting it over the crossbar is 2 point because its easier to hit it over then it is to hit it into the goal
