  • Big Trains Fight Gravity To Get Down THE HILL Safely Holding Back Nearly 2 Miles Of Intermodal Cars. Holding Back Thousands Of Tons And Crossing A Giant Railroad Viaduct Over The Ohio River Valley. These trains are in Ludlow, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line. The hill is over 5 miles long with the grade at 1.18%. I'm not sure what the steepest part of the grade is.
    Both trains are northbound getting ready to cross the Ohio River into Cincinnati, Ohio. They are headed to Gest Street Yard near Cincinnati Union Terminal. CSX Queensgate Yard joins up with Gest Street Yard. This line runs to Chattanooga, Tennessee and the best road frequency is 160.950 in this area.
    Anyone who counts the cars on the second train deserves an award! That train was way too long. Just think of the pile of goods that it is shipping.
    Filmed April, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

    In my opinion, the best way to start dealing with the problem of this excessive graffiti is to make the taggers do what they seem to love best: if caught, make them paint at least ten cars for every car tagged!

    The bridge over Deverill Street in Ludlow, Kentucky is a nice location to watch trains. I was looking at Google Maps and I saw that you had a long walk from the parking area to where you were able to the spot where you took this video. The two trains took their time coming down THE HILL heading to Gest Street yard. The first train had a lot of empty steel coil cars. Where did all those empty steel coil cars come from? The intermodal train was one of the longest intermodal trains that you have captured. You mentioned that you had not been at this trestle in a while. You recently uploaded a video that you had taken at this trestle that came from out of the "vault". I do not remember the date that you took that video.

    One of those spring Trackside days when the creosote smell is starting for the season and you can hear the Earthworms rustling under the leaves on the fields. No need for the speed gun today and you could have asked "Why so slow don't you have someplace you need to be?" At 4:35 a time warp among the MOW cars is a Penn Central gon. Time for a Red Bull so sit back and watch the parade.

Great shots and thanks for the patience to have ticks about ya getting these shots. Fantastic, Jaw Tooth. Cheers.

  • @stevensipes1823
    @stevensipes1823 Рік тому

    That long empty flat car. 5 piece. Is known as a “spine”. It can take either trailers or one container per section. Sometime back they make “empack” cars. In 3 piece and 5 piece. Most were 5 piece. The difference was the empack cars were only for trailers up to 45 ft. ATHEARN made them in the blue box time frame. It was in two kits. The ends was one kit. And the three piece center part. If you get these cars you notice that the ends ride higher than the centers because the wheels are bigger on the ends. They did about six different paints. The one that was different in that was for Santa Fe. They were 10 piece car. But Santa Fe never had them leave there own trackage. For awhile was the “Frontrunner” it had one axle at each end of the car. And could take one trailer on it up to 45 ft. Was not set up for containers. In models they were made but I for got by who. Oh I almost for got if you saw a frontrunner car it would ALWAYS be at the end of the train. The frame could not take the load of the rest of the train behind it. It was possible to see a few together at the end of the train. Just giving you some insight of those cars for you. Steven Sipes
