Really appreciated not only the teaching on the construction and variations of style..but loved the history as well.... definitely made me a subscriber
Absolutely outstanding, educational, not only in the making of and excellent tips but also the the history. Been watching many clips with plans to make myself some " viking" or "norse" chairs and this is by far the absolute best. Thank you
Great, maybe, have another version with more color? Many ancient art pieces were completely painted with multiple colors, but most of the paint came off over the centuries.
Yes you certainly can. Adjust the receiving hole up to any height you find comfortable. You will have to adjust the back piece a little longer to account for that . I would start with the back piece extra long and keep trimming it till you find an angle that is right for you.
Stumbled on your video today and it got my blood pumping and my creative juices flowing. My one question i have is you showed the height of the first one, what were the heights of the other ones.?
You can certainly move the slot in the back rest up to give you extra height. You may have to adjust the length of the seat out the back. I would suggest cutting it a bit long and trimming it to get the perfect angle for you.
Hi, sorry I just made those for my own personal use, I do not make them for sale. Maybe there is a local woodworker close to you that can make one for you.
Hi Lawrence, I use Vcarve pro for my CNC software and they have a feature for converting BMP's to vectors. I have also done it in the past with my Coreldraw and saved it as a DXF file to import directly into Vcarve as a vector. You might need to touch up some of the nodes depending on the quality of the original. Some of these images took quite a bit of clean up so they were not an excessive amount of nodes for the program to deal with. Let me know if you have any questions and I will help the best I can.
@@uniquegeekdiy Thanks for the quick answer! I use Vectric Aspire on my CNC (Laguna IQ Pro). I hadn't played with that function yet. I think when I got it a few versions back, that feature wasn't implemented well (if at all). I have been using a digitizing tablet (Logic Trace) to digitize some patterns, as well as actually trace objects - with some success - but there's always some node editing involved. Retirement has been put off a bit so I don't have as much time to work on these things as I expected - still, getting there. Thanks again!
Nice chairs. Think i have to make the second one from left some day... it is about what i can do in my garage and i will have to use my little hobby laser engraver. =)
Of the four classes of chairs that I just saw? I'd prefer the "peasant" one, less fuss in the construction process, it just took two pieces, of the same 2x6 board to make it
Might seem like a silly question, but what sort of weight can these handle? I am a large fella and would hate to sit my fat ass down and break the whole thing :)
I love your work but I have to say a little disappointed that you used a CNC for the carvings, Hand carving or a palm router would have been better, But I do like what you have done, Can you make a Viking chest
Hand carving is a different skill that I have not pursued. I admire those that do it. A Viking Chest is a good idea. I will have to add it to my list of things to do.
First you made the first one machines did most the other ones second Odin has wolves not hounds third what in the nine relms are those runes you got R and ae in elder fathrek but what are these zig zags almost capital G and upsidown u rune like jeeeeeeeez man your Killin me
Three classes were thralls at bottom, Karls were middle class land owners and merchants, and jarls were the nobility . Also simple tools? You have automated stuff I've never seen before. Wish you kept it simple. And as you said, if we are trying to be historically accurate, these chairs don't work. Waste of time.

Gorgeous!
You are correct about the basic chair design coming from Africa. Malawi wood carvers create amazing chairs in different woods.

Glad you got some value out of it. Hope to see a picture of your chair when it is done.
These are not 'Viking Age' chairs, not by a long way. African is more likely

Unique pieces. Hats off
Excellent video! Thank you!
Very cool! Good stuff!
This video deserves more credit
Glad you got some value out of it
just incredible! thanks
Funny project! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome video pal. Love it. Cheers.
Such beautiful carving! Is it posible to make the chair have a little higher seat, for those with bad knees and difficulty getting up?
Yes you certainly can. Adjust the receiving hole up to any height you find comfortable. You will have to adjust the back piece a little longer to account for that . I would start with the back piece extra long and keep trimming it till you find an angle that is right for you.

Hi, glad you like it. Each one is about 10" higher than the previous chair. Really just comes down to personal taste though, you can do any height.
Thanks for responding.
That was rad
Why using 2x material? Just how much weight are you expecting to carry?
HOw do we raise the height of the seat? (knee surgery)

@@uniquegeekdiy Thank you!
Would you be willing to make and sell one of these? I looked on your website and its not there.

Great video. what is the length for the backs of the kings and odin chairs?
Hi Darrell, glad your getting some value out of it. The King and Odin chairs are 5 1/2' and 6 1/2' respectively
Fantastic video! Subscribing!!!
Glad you liked it, welcome to the channel.
Thanks for the video - how did you digitize the artwork so you could use it in your cnc?

Will swing by my "local" wood shop, and see if they have some fun scrap wood tomorrow. =)

Yes, they are all just as functional for as a chair. Does just depend on how much fussing you want to do.
@@uniquegeekdiy
That's why I picked the first chair made, It's just simple to do.
Have fun with it
Might seem like a silly question, but what sort of weight can these handle? I am a large fella and would hate to sit my fat ass down and break the whole thing :)
You would have no issues. A Rhino could sit on it.
Unfortunately, those aren't Viking era chairs at all. But they are cool.
It does address that in the video that they are not historically from the Viking era and that is just what they have come to be known as.
They're coming from Africa.
Star gamer chairs
Jarl was certainly not a middle class citizen.... They were the leaders of their region under the king's authority

Its actually called a Stargazers chair, and it does not come from Africa!

Not a Viking chair! Probably of African origin.
I do address that in the video. Viking chair is just a common term that has been given to that type of chair these days, not the origin.
So, it’s clickbait. Keep you’re facts right.
@MatsN so is "probably" a fact?
@@paulbateman5769 In this case. Probably. It's certainly not Viking. That's a fact.
@@MatsN how do you know?
