  • Have you ever needed to cut something just slightly bigger than your machine’s capacity? You might have all the space you need!
In this episode, Morgan made a viking chair on his Elite Series Woodworker, which has a 32x32 cutting area - yet both parts of the chair are 42” long. By designing, toolpathing, and cutting parts diagonally, you can maximize the capacity of your machine and cut larger parts.
Not just for this chair - this method is great for any project that exceeds your machine’s X & Y limitations. Follow along to see how!

I have a pair of these chairs that my dad and I made together about 30 years ago out of a 2x12. I've never heard them called Viking chairs before though. Yours are really nice, much nicer than ours.

I guess I'm the first to catch the little issue when the first handle was cutting?

I’m definitely not going to comment on the shape of the seat and how it moves in and out. I won’t.

Hey Morgan love the video! Any chance you have any close up procures of your jointer set up? Looks like you have a bench top but made it’s own table so its capacity is better.

    is that an RGB mallett?
Is it heavy? I bet you could cut some design to help drain water and lighten the weight too.

Nice project, thanks for sharing! BTW, what CAD software did you use for the design?

    Fun project!
What was the first software you used to draw these prior to importing them into Carvco?
