Matt so good to see you post again for me you are one of the best uk sea fishing channels always quality post interesting and well presented Congratulations on the codling your reaction says it all fair play Look forward to seeing you again soon
@@SaltwaterAngler very much so and you always encourage people and show how much fun the fishing is and the benefits for mental health if you catch good if not there is always next time
Superb to see the Codling and how happy it made you. Always a massive boost when a unexpected fish shows up. I am on the Humber and last autumn and winter it was fairly poor for Cod but hopefully this year will be different...it is what keeps us fishing
Great to see you catching a cod mate a rair thing to see these days. I always find your videos so calming to watch mate. Really enjoyed it. And yes there is nothing wrong with wanting more hahahah allnthe best mat tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
Good to see you back Matt, I was getting a bit worried, so I was very glad to hear you say how much you like making the vids, I always look forward to them. Well done, a nice varied catch in quite challenging conditions. You've got me fired up to get down to the coast and get stuck in. It's 70 miles to my nearest decent bit of sea, and as I'm getting on a bit, I need the sort of inspiration that you are so good at delivering!
Yes thanks Ben , nicely churned over. Also smaller tides shows it doesn’t have to be the bigger springs. We used to say conger best on calm nights but find rougher days give best results. Note: theamputeeangler can be found on UA-cam - some great underwater footage of bass my subs will be interested in as well as a solid how to approach to vlogging from the boat - worth a follow
Thanks Matt. Great vid, as always. Good to see you out there. Codling was the first fish I ever caught from the shore, on my then-new Beach caster and Garcia-Mitchell multiplyer. 1978. Hillhead, Lee-on-Solent. Never caught one since 😁😄!! Good to see your bass-Smile again 👍🏻 let’s hope there’s plenty this year, late as it is. Had my first this year from the Kayak (East of you). On a lure. Couple of cm short so let it swim. Looking forward to your next post. Keep ‘em coming. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@SaltwaterAngler out this morning (Fri) couple of mackerel and couple of nice Bass. One was such a fatty I just had to put her back only 50cm but bursting to spawn by the look of it. I also saw quite a large shoal jumping around, travelling inshore, a small ‘sea-boil’. So hopefully the sea is warming-up nicely, not just temperature but catches too. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Hi Matt I was fishing for bass a little bit further down the coast at Coeden last August and I caught a codling the same size ! I was amazed because it was the first one I had caught on the South Coast for over 20 years. I enjoy your videos very relaxing. Regards.
@@SaltwaterAngler Yes I was surprised, I was only fishing about 40 yards out just on the end of the groynes it wasn't like I was at Dungeness chuck 160 yards !
A good session and well done catching that cod(ling)! It was well within the minimum size so I bet that it tasted good. Haven't seen you for a bit, keep them coming.
Brilliant video, always trying new stuff with the camera shots Nice to see the early codling , fingers crossed for you folk down there . Loved it ! Tight Lines
Great video Matt and congratulations on catching that lovely codling. Forgot what they looked like! They look great when they first come out of the water don’t they? You put me to shame as I went down to a local beach on Saturday and the conditions were similar but frightened me off!! Becoming more of a fair weather fisherman these days😂. Best wishes, Dave, broadstairs
Thanks mate, yep I actually thought it was a big whiting at first ! Hearing there are a few being landed along the Sussex coast this week which is good news
Awesome Matt, a codling in August 😮 even I never did that 😅 caught some nice large codling , big cod from the beach opposite a hotel think it was called Queen Victoria, a ww1 German U boat washed there, found best bait was sprats , haven't fished 4 weeks due to weather. Happy catching from Australia Nick 🇦🇺 ☺️
Nice one mate ! I was just looking through my Australian catch reports GTs on chicken legs! Stingray on kangaroo island ! Plus some other good spearfishing catches on the east coast. Must go back - will look up that U boat I remember seeing something about it
Loved the vid!! Heard of a few cod getting caught this year on the south coast in summer!!! Madness!!! Good conditions for cod though rough seas.. do you think dogfish like the rough sea to? Or more of a calm water species really like hounds/rays?
Another pleasing watch mr saltwater. Envy your weed levels 😮 my beaches in West Sussex are a foot deep on the high water tide line and it’s just starting to take on an aroma and becoming very disliked by foreshore users . Can’t see what all the fuss is about really 🤔 when I was a kid it was 6ft deep and smelt of the sewers🤢 … can so relate to the euphoria of catching your first Sussex cod ( ling😊) I remember mine to this day .. there’s been a fair few caught of late in Sussex and late August , good tides and coloured water have been bringing them in for a few years now at this time ( put this in your diary for next year if conditions are correct) biggest I’ve heard of is 12lb so far. Thanks for sharing and well done again
@@stinkymuppet9207 thanks for your comment - you always seem to capture the video and associated talking points so well (with humour) I’ve always heard reports of rotting weed bringing in big bass and mullet but so rare here - tight lines and thanks for the input
@@SaltwaterAngler yep you are correct I have watched these species feeding just a few feet from the shore, seaweed fly maggots seem to be their main quarry but there are other bits hopping and hiding in the weed often caught out as bigger rising tides attempting a natural clearance of the weed. It’s difficult to fish these conditions but I have had a few schoolies free lining some bread on a long light rod . Silver eels are also attracted to the weed , I never target them because they always find me especially if I use worm baits 🙄
Always get a run of small codling at Selsey west sussex in August have done for years so not unusual , reports over last few weeks has shown a few caught
Nice catch mate! I've still never caught a cod from here in Eastbourne. I was just wondering how long you like to leave your worms out and when you decide to reel in when you're getting bites?
That codling where you are must be like rocking horse doo doo 😂 They are catching them on chesil beach which is normal by all accounts then they disappear and comeback later. Shame I can't do chesil because of mountains of pebbles 😢
Hello mate- yes pretty rare here although I’m hearing of two more this week - ref chesil shingle - would swimmer mats help ? Those rubber mats that allow us to not trudge on the chesil ! We are looking at some for some anglers locally especially those with heart or copd issues
