This was my favorite interview. Tim Foust has a smooth, booming voice just in conversation. His personality is incredibly engaging. Just feels like you're listening to someone you've known for years. Great stuff.
Love that he shouted out acapella gospel and Southern Gospel. He's absolutely right, there are some stellar voices in both those arenas and they're definitely undiscovered treasures.
I got to this point and paused the interview. I was like, Wait - he knows that group? He grew up with acapella gospel? I went to Google and checked, and sure enough, he was raised in the Church of Christ, a niche sect of evangelical Christianity which has a strong emphasis on not using instruments in worship. This makes SO much sense and it is really cool that we have a similar musical background. (I credit my COC upbringing for my deep love of vocal harmony and acapella music in general) Now I want to hear Home Free cover 728B (iykyk)
@@sarahereach there's no acapella like CoC acapella. I used to attend a singing every year where we would close with the Hallelujah Chorus and Awake Awake.
Yup, the Singing has always been my favorite part of worship and the thing that remains close to my heart even as my feelings on other parts of our doctrine have gotten more complicated. I was part of singing workshops and camps growing up that taught me the basic fundamentals of solfege and sight singing that helped me when I joined choir in High School. (I still need shape notes to sight read well 😅) Tims earlier story about being able to pitch match before he could talk is also super relatable given the context of Church singing. My Mom also sang constantly to me and by the time I started talking, I knew the words to every song in that old blue songbook.
What a great interview! You're a really good interviewer, very relaxed. Learned some things I didn't know about Tim's career. I didn't know the details of his writing gig in California. I also loved hearing more about Darren Rust. I have massive respect for that guy. He's a huge part of the magic of Home Free.
Elizabeth, one of the things I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE about you is how much you enjoy and adore wonderful things, as if you're not this incredibly accomplished voice and coach. I LOVE people who never lose the quality of being a fan of awesome things! I enjoy your enjoyment alongside what you are enjoying in your videos. Keep being your adorable self!
Your teatime interviews are just from another world, I really really enjoy those. Thanx for the effort to get the time of those musicians and them to really chat with you.
Again I have watched a whole long interview on this channel, and the time flies! Elizabeth is a well informed and attentive interviewer, and it's fascinating to hear the details of Tim's career trajectory. Fun! Keep doing these interviews, please!
I still need an interpreter some times when he gets excited. Oh wait, Austin is always excited. Love him. Also love that he is the little brother that big brother Tim has to rein in.
@@Outtahereasap Yes, there are some differences between his speech and singing, but we still hear a lot of hard Rs when he sings. And it's always fun to listen to.
@@ellicooper2323 I'm Asian. English is not my first language. It's interesting for me to listen to the way he speaks and spot the deep south diction. I'm not a big country fan, but I appreciate the twang these guys carry in their songs. Home Free just sounds so good.
Yeah. Good music is contagious. Even if we aren’t familiar with it. I have been exposed to some unique styles and performers over the past couple of years. Really enjoy the variety!
I'm a Tennessee Southern Boy of 70 years and love to be the cook in the family (so does my wife althought she's a better cook than me). I'm with you Tim on the cornbread dressing. Never was a fan of 'stuffing', but I learned cornbread dressing from my mother and she from her mother. It's also probably one of my favorite things in the world to eat. My greatest luck is that before my bother passed away, she put all of her favorite recipes in a 3 ring binder for my wife and it's one of our greatest possesions. Love both of you.
I finally got to watch this. It was wonderful. Great questions and loved listen to Tim's long answers. Very good story telling skills. I'm looking forward to Tim's new album. I just know it's going to be fantastic!
I got to see Home Free live for the 1st time in October & saw them again last week. When Tim hits the low note & you can feel your seat vibrate or feel the floor vibrate, that is so amazing!! RE the content released during the quarantine - I have to send a big THANK YOU to all the members of Home Free & their tech crew. Knowing that a new video was going to drop every other Friday almost like clockwork was wonderful. It gave me something to look forward to at a time when there wasn't much else to look forward to.
Can I just say, after seeing this interview again, Tim is just hilarious, and engaging, and quite seriously gorgeous and damn... I'm trying to being calm and collected but ...... seriously his voice sends a shiver that ends up in place we probably should not discuss. Lord have mercy.
I saw Home Free on that first Christmas tour in Dickinson ND, you were great! And you made a comment about getting your van stuck during the show. Also saw you on the Allied Concert tour earlier in the year. So happy that you are still producing music as a group years later, really enjoy your work.
Oh excellent. Elizabeth's doing great with the interviews. We need PTX, Home Free, Voice Play, and Voctave to do a Game of Thrones medley/concert. :) It would be really cool to Tim, Geoff, and another base like Avi or Matt doing chords down low.
I'm still in contact with my grade school music teacher, John Jensen. I left grade school in 1969, so that's a long time ago. I never went forward with my music studies but Mr. Jensen cemented my love of all music. That love of music is what keeps me alive. Thanks for sharing this post!!
Concerning your interview with Tim Foust. I grew up on the Texas coast, too, and when he made the comment about being 20 yrs old when he first saw snow it reminded me of a poem I wrote a couple of years ago.
First Snow
First Snow came to me In my twenty-first year. East Texas heat had held it at bay. In Nashville, In a rented room, I saw First Snow. Frosty feathers falling Softly, silencing sound. A world of quiet magic Seeming to wait… Calling to me to walk To feel cold caresses To venture out In the wonder of First Snow. I enjoy watching how much you enjoy your program. I was a musician and performer for 20 yrs.
Wow...his voice just resonates with you doesn't it? He could read anythign and make it sound profound. Great interview. He's so cool about explaining what he does. (And still I will say every time...HOW..does he do THAT??) He makes i thard to pull away even just to pause it for a few minutes. Never get tired of that voice.
Wow wow wow! I have loved both of you (Tim and Elizabeth) for as long as I have discovered you. You are wonderful. To see you both in (almost) real time....sweet. Love you both and Home Free! Heaven! Elizabeth - congratulations. You will be a supermom!
Another great vlog. Love Tim Foust, solo, duos, and with Home Free!! I was born In Lubbock. While it is in Texas, it does get more cold weather than the rest of Texas.
No words... Everything that concerns the voice, musical taste and other virtues should not even be discussed. But in general - Tim is just Prince Charming 🤗🤗🤗😍
As a Home Fry, I enjoyed this interview SO much!! I "met" them at the Sing-Off and it's been a life-changer. My father played guitar in a country band and it sort of takes me back to my roots. Love each and every one of Home Free and the coolest thing is each one is so talented on their own! Tim not only has an amazing voice, he's such an entertainer.^i^ My Cincinnati Taft Concert due in March 2020 had to be changed to June 2022. I can't wait!
I just listened to this again. I enjoyed it just as much this time. Tim is such an interesting person and I appreciate him so much sharing so much with us!
I can't believe I just watched almost a 2 hour interview. I am used to 15 - 30 min. videos. But, this was so interesting and I really enjoyed hearing about Tim's journey to Home Free and this stardom Home Free has attained. This group has guys that are all talented, endearing, sincere, caring and most of all, a lot fun. Thank you so much, Elizabeth for bringing Tim on your channel. I have loved bass singers since I first heard JD Sumner & The Stamp Quartet (with Richard Sterban of the Oakridge Boys) at a Hymn Sing in Hershey, PA in the early 1970's. When I first heard Home Free on the Sing Off; I was hooked and have been ever since.
I've never seen a grown woman gush like this before. We know you're enamored with him Liz, I'm happy you're happy to speak with him. Congratulations on your interview.
I accidentally stumbled onto your reaction video of Man of Constant Sorrow (Home Free). Believe it or not, I was watching adventure motorcycle videos. I have always been a sucker for great harmony, and I heard all those great Home Free vocals and I was hooked. Your analysis was so interesting, almost scientific (l'm a Lead Test Engineer just finishing 2 new nuclear power plants). I want to thank you for introducing me to Home Free, I've been devouring their music these past few days. Their cover of Helplessly Hoping (CSN) literally brought tears to my eyes as I felt my soul swelling with joy at the pure clear harmony. Thank you for the introduction. Typically I'm a Blackberry Smoke Fan, southern rock or guitar shredders (Clapton, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Bonamassa, Tedeschi Trucks). I'm now subscribed to see what new music I get exposed to. I appreciate what you do, exposing new / different artists to new audiences. I listen to your thoughts and hear things that I heard in the song, but was too immersed in the totality of the song to truly appreciate the nuanced subtlety of. Again, thank you.
I've learned so much by listening to this entire podcast!! I'm glad I took the time to get to know Tim better. In all honesty, he's just a real down to earth guy that I admire. Thanks so much!!! ❤❤❤
Elizabeth, you are so sweet, happy and gitty talking with Tim. I love the joy you have for music and talented people. I am amazed at Tim’s vocal range and it is wonderful to see the person behind that voice. What a treat!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Was able to catch Home Free in Milwaukee in October. INSANELY amazing show. You guys are such great entertainers individually and together. Thank you Elizabeth for doing this interview with Mr Foust.
I was taken aback just how such a talent was so open and kind for his fans, didn't have anything to sell other than his time. can't wait to watch the live.
I guess you could say Kirk struck a Foustian bargain to get Tim on the channel. Also, if Tim is the bass for Home Free, would that make him Home Bass? Anyway, Tim is an ultra-talented and prolific artist and a super funny dude so this interview should be delightful.

What a wonderfully joyful and lovely conversation, I can't remember when I listened to an interview for almost 2 hours.. I was building a really good expensive loudspeaker literally the last screws .. and it was so entertaining and authentic but above all vulnerable and just the bass in Tim's voice just talking is already so rhythmic and just enough melodic Now I listen to his voice to test my new loudspeakers, and both passed the test.
It's really amazing to see her interview someone she's reacted to. Especially a music giant like Mr. Foust. When I saw the thumbnail of this video my jaw hit the floor. You've gotta love the ladies reaction when they first experience ... "Yoooooou'll remember meeeee"
You two are so genuine and easy to listen to. I discovered Home Free about two years ago and have become a rabid fan. I love what they do and how terrific they sound with no instrumentation at all. Of course Tim is a favorite as we all love his bass, but are also amazed at his range. The best thing is the group seems so real and happy just singing together. Unfortunately, they never or at least haven't yet come to California.

What a genuine guy! That was very cool to listen to. I love these interviews, you get to know them at a different level.
So psyched for Ave Maria featuring Tim Foust and Elizabeth Zharoff, holy cow
What a great interview! You're a really good interviewer, very relaxed. Learned some things I didn't know about Tim's career. I didn't know the details of his writing gig in California. I also loved hearing more about Darren Rust. I have massive respect for that guy. He's a huge part of the magic of Home Free.
Holy Wow! Is speaking voice is lovely and deliciously warm.
Yes, Tim's voice reminds me of Eddie Vedder's speaking voice. Soothing and deep. Although, Tim's range is much greater than Ed's.
Ok, Tim's bass is awesome, no question about it, but Miss Elizabeth is just Wow! Wow! Wow! ... Two absolutely brilliant hours!
Both thumps up! Danke!
Your teatime interviews are just from another world, I really really enjoy those. Thanx for the effort to get the time of those musicians and them to really chat with you.
Heavens, what a beautiful smile you both have!
Again I have watched a whole long interview on this channel, and the time flies! Elizabeth is a well informed and attentive interviewer, and it's fascinating to hear the details of Tim's career trajectory. Fun! Keep doing these interviews, please!
Had to watch it again! Thank you!
Not gonna lie. Never heard of Home Free but after checking them out I am pretty impressed and definitely a new fan.
such an absolutely beautiful and quite informative discussion between two quite accomplished musicians thank you very much
I cracked up when Tim said for months he had to translate what Austin said to the other members because they had problems understanding him. lol
Austin’s diction and Southern inflection is so different than his singing voice.
This will be a fun interview, can't wait to watch.
I loved this, but it is too short!! More Tim, please.
Edite to clarify: if this had been 4 hours long, I'd make the same comment 😁
:) It would be really cool to Tim, Geoff, and another base like Avi or Matt doing chords down low.
bass, not base
I'm still in contact with my grade school music teacher, John Jensen. I left grade school in 1969, so that's a long time ago. I never went forward with my music studies but Mr. Jensen cemented my love of all music. That love of music is what keeps me alive. Thanks for sharing this post!!
What a lovely interview and such a great chemistry they have. 😊
Concerning your interview with Tim Foust. I grew up on the Texas coast, too, and when he made the comment about being 20 yrs old when he first saw snow it reminded me of a poem I wrote a couple of years ago.
First Snow
First Snow came to me
In my twenty-first year.
East Texas heat had held it at bay.
In Nashville,
In a rented room,
I saw First Snow.
Frosty feathers falling
Softly, silencing sound.
A world of quiet magic
Seeming to wait…
Calling to me to walk
To feel cold caresses
To venture out
In the wonder of
First Snow.
With tears... Thank you from those of us who love Tim, who love Home Free... and, those of us who LOVE YOU.
What a pleasant discovery! I was born in San Antonio but spent the majority of my first decade of my life in Nederland Texas!
Great catch! Tim is one of my favorite singers! This interview was incredible and made my whole year!
I’ll have to warn the neighbours. Bass and smiles travel a long way. Happy start of the weekend.
No words... Everything that concerns the voice, musical taste and other virtues should not even be discussed. But in general - Tim is just Prince Charming 🤗🤗🤗😍
I was planning to see Home Free in Ottawa but was thwarted by the pandemic. I can do late spring! Woohoo! This totally made my day!
This was amazing. You do such a great job with these Elizabeth!!! I’m a huge fan of you both ❤️
His voice is making my headphones vibrate !!!
Oooh hearing Elizabeth perform Ave Maria!? That would be phenomenal.
i could listen to Tim just talk about anything for hours... oh wait!
..his speaking voice is so special… so much bass.. wow…
Loved this interview, i learned a lot about Tim's musical journey. Thank you so much!
Elizabeth's soft, understated voice, Tim's big booming bass, complete opposites! So cute.
That voice is smooth as silk!! Love to hear this man sing solo or with the Home Free group.
Great interview Elizabeth and thank you for having it.
Absolutely fascinating interview. What an interesting guy!
An absolutely amazing interview. Well done Elizabeth!
I guess you could say Kirk struck a Foustian bargain to get Tim on the channel. Also, if Tim is the bass for Home Free, would that make him Home Bass? Anyway, Tim is an ultra-talented and prolific artist and a super funny dude so this interview should be delightful.
Haha 😄 good one 'home bass'
speak corny much ?
@@markmclendon8621 It's my native tongue. I'm trying to learn how to speak normal. Give me time.
@@oglschmitt corn is not necessarily a bad thing
@@markmclendon8621 I grew up on a farm, so I'm all about the corn. Honestly, whenever I do comments, sometimes I have a point that I try to make, but usually I'm just trying to get a chuckle out of people.
What a absolutely wonderful interview!! Learned so much about Home Free and Tim. You did a wonderful job interviewing, totally enjoyed this. Thank you 💖😊
Loved the Interview 😀😊
Thank you so much for this Interview 😊🔥😀
Can’t wait for this tomorrow a double feature have a wonderful Thursday Elizabeth and Kirk!
Wow...what a voice!! Thanks.
He can just talk about what ever he wants - I wanna listen
OMG !!!!! Did I just understood that a collab between Elizabeth and Tim would be possible ?!?!? That is soooo exciting !
Great interview❣️ loved spending time with Both of you. Learned so much.
Love Peter also. cappella is my absolute favorite 😍
Such a fantastic interview!!! Thank you both for this treat!!!
