If you love low notes, then you MUST experience the work of Clamavi de Profundis, if you haven't already. One thing a lot of people seem to miss/forget was that this song/poem was written by Tolkien himself. It is in The Hobbit in the chapter An Unexpected Party. It seems many people believe this was made for the movie which is incorrect. Tolkien was a mastermind of fantasy, world building, and immersion
Yes Tolkien wrote the lyrics but the piece was originally called lonely Mountain not misty Mountain as it is talking about the loss of the dwarfhold 'lonely Mountain' to Smaug
@JediNxf7 True. Most of the verses are in "An Unexpected Party" (10) , some "Queer Lodgings" (6), where the party stays at BEORN and some in "The Gathering of the Clouds" (7), after the slaying of Smaug.

Since she mentions the lore of the misty mountains, for those who are interested: The song is about the fall of Erebor, 171 years before the events in the Hobbit (not so anciant after all but in medieval fantasy everything has an ancient vibe) and the desire of Thorin's family to return to their home. Curiously Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, is not part of the Misty Mountains though. Erebor was one of the settlements of Thorin's ancestors. And I especially love all of your reactions and shared joy!
Love the gorgeous pairing of Peter and Tim in this deep, mystical song. Put this video on a computer or on a TV and watch Tim's body as he sings that incredible low note at the end. These two gentlemen, their entire production and mixing team did an over the top job with the music, attire and scenery. You feel like you are right in the story of the The Lord of the Rings.
Clamavi De Profundis has a ton of songs and poetry from the Lord of the Rings, and it is beautiful! Their rendition of this song is 20 minutes long! I recommend "The Song of Durin," "Roads Go Ever On," "Lament for Boromir," and "The Song of Beren and Luthien." I actually recommend them all, goodness me. There are acapella versions.
Now, you need to try "Song of Durin" by Clamavi de Profundis (another dwarf song from Lord of the Rings). The text is brilliant AND the music is awesome. You will sh*t bricks!
Yeah these guys are talented and I’ve heard Peter in other things, but they have the cadence wrong and the pronunciations feel muddy compared to Clamavi de Profundis.
Tims G#1 is sooo amazing. Check some of their lives, he completely drowns out the rest of the group when he holds it. Literally rattles the stage and the cameras, and distorts the speakers.
Both Peter and Tim have done numerous collabs together, including "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Sound of Silence" and "Greensleeves" all worth checking out. Methinks you would really enjoy Peter and Avi Kaplan's "Black Is The Color Of My True Love' s Hair" as well if you dig the contrasted harmonies between a tenor and a singer with a much lower register like Tim or Avi. Great vid as always, really enjoyed your reaction as usual :)
Oh yeah! If you think Peter and Tim blend well, just wait for the mix of Peter's and Avi's timbres. I believe you used the word lush several times? You ain't hear lush yet!
Love your reaction, both on the video, the harmonies, and certainly Tim's ending note. I can't help thinking of a ship entering a harbour.. That horn is what Tim sounds like! 🤣 And speaking of Hollen's range: Now is the right time to listen to Home Free's "Mayday". On that track Tim shows his range, and Adam Chance offers a surprise.
First - thank you for sharing your musical knowledge with us. I'm always impressed by the fact that your talent, education, and professional career haven't dimmed your enthusiasm for performances such as this one (or any other). Your body language and facial expressions are genuine and priceless. And, you are as amazed by all of these performers as we are. Again, thank you.
Your reaction to Tim's low note is priceless!😁 Always enjoy watching your videos & break down of the song and performance of the group or singer. Thank you!😁
Hahah... This is a brillant choice 👍😁 Can't wait to see your reaction on this. And now.. Please.. Do Home Free "Mayday". After getting to know Tim's Basso Profundo, "Mayday" will blow your socks off 😁
DAMN! Her reaction is perfectly embracing of the deep melodic and vibrating harmonies as if it's sweeping her away on a magic carpet perfectly embraced and safe in it's fabric! Can never get enough of her enjoyment in the moments just before her comments! I feel like such a voyeur while watching her, however, that's not gonna stop me from doing so!
He made another cover of a LOTR song called Into the West. It’s from the return of the king I believe when Frodo gets on the ship with the elves. This song is very special to me because it’s the last song my dad performed before he passed away.
That song is special to me also. My late wife loved it. She died in a freak accident and we had it played at her graveside. It is hard for me to hear it and not cry. It is truly a special song.
That piece has been played at a lot of funerals - it is, after all, about Frodo and Bilbo taking ship into the West and leaving middle earth to be finally healed of the lasting effects of the One Ring - casting off the cares of the mortal world.
Peter usually uses anywhere from 80 to 140 layers of voice recording to make his songs/covers. I have been listening to his music for the past 4 years now and I always enjoy listening to it. He's done gaming music collaborations with Malukah (Baba Yetu, Tale of Tongues from Skyrim, and a few that I can't remember at the moment), Lindsey Stirling (Skyrim Dragonborn theme song), quite a few more with Home Free, he's done one with Avi Kaplan, also with Scott (Pentatonix) too a few years ago, and he's also done one with Jonathan Young (he's very well known for his heavy metal covers of Disney songs as well as anime theme songs), and many more with his wife, Evynne (I think that's how you spell her name) as well. He's one of the more famous acapella singers on UA-cam alongside Home Free and Pentatonix. So, I highly recommend that you listen to his music in your downtime so that you can have a wide variety to choose from for your music reaction videos 😁👍.
@@PeterHollens Haha!! I wish! But no, I didn't hack anything Peter. I think one of your older videos stated that it used 120 layers, but I'm not sure which one. That, and I'm just good at listening ☺️.
I truly believe that 10,000 100,000 years and beyond when humans sang in harmony everyone around got the shivers and were just as enthralled as today. Cheers from Canada.
Now that you've broken the Peter Hollens ice...more, more, more please! He is, in my humble opinion, the king of a cappella and always a pleasure to hear whether alone or in collaboration!
"Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair" by Peter Hollens featuring Avi Kaplan will surely make you go "Woah" at least a dozen times throughout! I'd love to see it reacted to on your channel! Keep up the wonderful work!😊
Wow! What a great reaction! Nice to hear from a pro. I love this version. They do sound like Monks chanting at times. Peter and Tim have collaborated on other songs and I love their version of Sounds of Silence and Greensleeves. You would also love Peter’s collaboration with Avi Kaplan on Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair...beautiful. Also just a note that Tim makes the camera shake on that last note! You’ll have to watch it one more time!
I have been listening to Peter Hollens for quite some time now. He is a talented vocalist and producer, but is also just such A NICE PERSON. Tim Foust is a legend. This version of Misty Mountains is so good that at times you can feel it in your bones. Peter Hollens does collaborations with other vocalists as well and has some really beautiful covers. I Love Avi Kaplan and Peter singing the beautiful song "Black is the color of my True Love's Hair". Nina Simone originally sang it, I believe, but until the Peter and Avi collaboration, The Corr's cover was my favorite. It would be fun to see you discuss all three of those versions of that song. Thank you very much for discussing the Misty Mountains cover today. I always look forward to your videos. - Cymru
Tim Foust is an amazing bass, one of the best around these days imho. Peter is quite simply one of the most talented singers ever. I love just about anything either of these guys does!
You are my favorite professional to watch with these reactions and analysis of music. You also taught me things that I didn't understand from my music theory class. Thank you.
Great reaction to a fabulous piece! One of the things you'll notice about Tim is that many of his extreme low notes come at the end of phrases when mere mortals would be reaching for oxygen. In this case I didn't hear a breath before the last depth charge. Other times he'll drop these in the background not to draw attention to himself but because it's called for musically. Both Peter and Tim are impeccable musicians first and foremost. Its the musical result, not the ego, that reigns supreme with both men. And our hearts and ears reap the benefits! Keep the great reactions coming!
I highly recommend Peter and Tim's version of Greensleeves. Beautiful harmonies again, but Tim shows off more of the tenor part of his range and jumps between the basement and attic like it's no big thing. I don't know why more people don't react to that one.
At this point I'm just binge watching 'Vocal Coach' reaction videos to see their faces when Tim Foust begins. To a person, there's a visible shudder (both at the beginning and the end). As there should be.
Yep. She's definitely covered in "mist" after this one. I wasn't sure when I saw your comment, but good lord, I was worried I was on PH for a few moments there!
Hi Elizabeth! Congratulations on receiving your Silver UA-cam Button Plaque!! I Loved this performance and I Loved your Reaction & Analysis! Thank you Kirby ! A Tauriel look would be nice. I finally got the Silver Button Plaque and it's the fruit of all of our labors. Have an amazing weekend as welll!
They did an amazing job capturing the essence of magic and ageless history of this song. I believe Tolkien would have been proud of the production they presented.
I think this was your best reaction yet! Watching all the small micro movements in your face anyone who see you knows your extreme passion for not just music in general but each and every note it's beautiful beyond compare and the giggle at the end is the cherry on top you truly are a beautiful lady and a music connoisseur
There's a much nerdier Peter Hollens "Tolkien" tribute Medley.... Hobbit Drinking Medley - Peter Hollens feat. Hank Green!! So very many Peters and Hanks.
If i could suggest some song from Peter Hollens it would be: * Toss a coin to your witcher (From the show Witcher) * Hellfire (from Hunchback of notre dame) * Spooky Halloween Mashup - Come Little Children & The Hanging Tree - Peter Hollens & Bailey Pelkman * I see fire (Ed sheeran cover from The Hobbit) * Epic Halloween medley (Fits the month perfect!) He´s Amazing! Love both him and Home Free Love from Sweden! :D
This is far an away my favorite reaction from you. This is one of my favorite UA-cam videos... when combined with your detailed breakdown, genuine excitement, and animated expressions, it was enjoyable to watch.
Yes - you mentioned FifGen, but did you know that two of the trio that made up FifGen are also singers and musicians, and now have their own channel as the Hound and the Fox?
As you love Peter's layering with clean notes, I think his cover of Dark Horse with Sam Tsui is one of the best examples. It plays with your ear so cleverly. Peter Hollens also did a Hobbit Drinking Songs Medley, if that's something that you'd be interested in.
While on the subject of acapella - I highly recommend Peter's version of Baba Yetu from Civilization with Malukah! As well as "Notre Dame Medley" by the Ringmasters, a European (Swedish, I think?) Barbershop quartet performing live in one of the best acapella performances I ever saw!
Can't wait to watch this video! I enjoy your reactions very much and I really wish your channel to keep growing! You are killing it :) Greetings from Guatemala!
If you loved this, you will be happy to know that Peter and Tim have collaborated on several other songs, my favorite being their version of Sound of Silence. Peter also did Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair with Avi Kaplan and it's stunning. Peter and friends did an awesome medley from Hamilton. His collaboration with the Gardiner Sisters on a Pirates of the Caribbean medley is a must-hear. Also his Disney Villains Medley, and his version of Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame. Throw in some Lindsay Sterling on violin and you have a very cool Skyrim cover. I would love to see your take on those. I don't know if you've heard of the Swingle Singers. They did a Hollins collaboration, too. But they do incredible a capella arrangements of everything from folk songs, pop standards, to jazz and classical instrumental pieces. Yes, instrumentals, as in Bach. As a classically-trained singer myself, I get goosebumps whenever I hear a capella done really well. Speaking of Tim, on behalf of us Home Fries, I just wanna throw out there this one by Home Free: Folsom Prison Blues. I know a lot of people will want to hear Mayday (and Tim is amazing as always) but as a Johnny Cash fan, I think the guys just made the best cover of this song I have ever heard. Okay, I'll stop fangirling now. I love watching your reactions. Keep up the good work!

I recommend "The Song of Durin," "Roads Go Ever On," "Lament for Boromir," and "The Song of Beren and Luthien." I actually recommend them all, goodness me.
There are acapella versions.
I definitely recommend checking out Clamavi De Profundis; they make amazing Tolkien songs.
Please do anything by Clamavi de Profundis
Sorry i'm late, but I also concur.
Now, you need to try "Song of Durin" by Clamavi de Profundis (another dwarf song from Lord of the Rings). The text is brilliant AND the music is awesome. You will sh*t bricks!
I love Clamavi de Profundis and that's my favorite song of theirs.
Clamavi de profundis's song of Beren and Luthien is also quite great
Yeah these guys are talented and I’ve heard Peter in other things, but they have the cadence wrong and the pronunciations feel muddy compared to Clamavi de Profundis.
Yes yes yes
+++
They are all relatives and that makes their tones perfectly match.
Tims G#1 is sooo amazing. Check some of their lives, he completely drowns out the rest of the group when he holds it. Literally rattles the stage and the cameras, and distorts the speakers.
Seen them live twice. When he hits and holds those super lows, you can actually feel your pants legs flapping around your shins.
Man your followers have great taste!!!
Jesus, this is pure ear candy. I LOVE these harmonies.
I didn't know I needed to hear the words "creamy low notes", but I did
I have watched this sooo many times. Your reaction to the G1 is gold. You have the most expressive face I think I have ever seen. Wonderful.
Love your reaction, both on the video, the harmonies, and certainly Tim's ending note.
I can't help thinking of a ship entering a harbour.. That horn is what Tim sounds like! 🤣
And speaking of Hollen's range:
Now is the right time to listen to Home Free's "Mayday".
On that track Tim shows his range, and Adam Chance offers a surprise.
1/3rd of this video is about Tim's end note...for good reason. "Let's listen to that again" x forever.
Thank you!😁
Hahah... This is a brillant choice 👍😁
Can't wait to see your reaction on this.
And now.. Please.. Do Home Free "Mayday".
After getting to know Tim's Basso Profundo, "Mayday" will blow your socks off 😁
Hell yeah
@@jonahhicks747 yes from me to!
Yes!
Also, check Black is the color of my true loves hair! It features Avi.
These are very good choices. Hope to make your wish come true soon. Thanks Salty!
He has an entire album dedicated to LOTR. I personally enjoy May It Be and In Dreams the most.
I love your enthusiasm. It feels like a child discovering something new. So innocent and pure. Thank you.
If you like Peter Hollens than check out his work with Malukah , their version of "Baba Yetu" is amazing
Agreed. Listening to that for the first time is an entirely awesome experience.
Yes, agree 100%. I had to scroll down and see if anyone else had already suggested it.
Yes. This.
I just commented this as well and then I saw this comment. Along with the Civ VI song Sogno di Volare. Both are fantastic.
Up for that. I also really like the Lullaby of Woe, another great collab with Malukah.
I love how you squirm in enjoyment to the low notes that are like seismic shock waves that go right through you.
So, I highly recommend that you listen to his music in your downtime so that you can have a wide variety to choose from for your music reaction videos 😁👍.
hey, how do you know how many layers!! are you hacking my studio cpu!?!?! ;)
@@PeterHollens Haha!! I wish! But no, I didn't hack anything Peter. I think one of your older videos stated that it used 120 layers, but I'm not sure which one. That, and I'm just good at listening ☺️.
That seems, like, AT LEAST 10 times as many as there should be. 2-6 layers, sure, but over a HUNDRED??
@@AllHailZeppelin Yep, close to or over a 100 layers in one song.
@@AllHailZeppelin On his cover of the Skyrim theme, he does the entire male choir. That's a lot of layers.
I'd love to hear Tim, Avi, and Geoff team up to sing this together.
"Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair" by Peter Hollens featuring Avi Kaplan will surely make you go "Woah" at least a dozen times throughout! I'd love to see it reacted to on your channel!
Keep up the wonderful work!😊
there is something amazing and honest and magical about a beautiful bass voice.
Love these folks.
Keep the great reactions coming!
exactly
Your love for music is visible in each video I watch. You are authentic and this makes your videos special. Thank you very much for sharing them.
I love how much trouble you had with containing your glee when hearing those low notes at the end.
I love listening to people who can educate me. Wonderful reaction!!!
I think you might need a pregnancy test after that last low note
LMFAO- AMEN!!
ovulation incoming
Rofl. *Cleanup on aisle 3 please*
yep. tim for sure has some *creamy* low notes
Yep. She's definitely covered in "mist" after this one. I wasn't sure when I saw your comment, but good lord, I was worried I was on PH for a few moments there!
I loved watching a professional who knows what's happening within the music!
Good stuff CV!
Hi Elizabeth! Congratulations on receiving your Silver UA-cam Button Plaque!! I Loved this performance and I Loved your Reaction & Analysis! Peter and Tim brought us this Amazing song and performance even J.R.R. Tolkien would have Loved!! I also Love your Black top/dress...although I wish it was the color Green and you had some, "elvish ears," so that you could portray the fictional character, "Tauriel." Thank You, Elizabeth!!! I hope You and Kirk have an Amazing Day/Weekend in AZ!!! :-)
Have a listen of the "Clamavi de Profundis" take on this 'song'. They're another acapella group you'll enjoy.
It makes me very happy to see people suggesting this!!
... WATCH the video when Tim sings his low note. .... as it goes on, the camera starts vibrating, and they didn't edit it out. It's epic. :)
Where is it?
@@tomekstec981 At the end..... keep an eye on the feathery thing on Tim's shoulder when it starts to shake....so does the camera
Tim's voice goes straight into my soul
I think this was your best reaction yet! Watching all the small micro movements in your face anyone who see you knows your extreme passion for not just music in general but each and every note it's beautiful beyond compare and the giggle at the end is the cherry on top you truly are a beautiful lady and a music connoisseur
Home Free collaborates with Peter Hollens on "Amazing Grace" if you haven't heard it yet.(The collaboration, not the hymn...)
They also did "19 You and Me" together
YEEEES my fav.
Please react to more of Peter Holllens. He has covered all of the Lord of the Rings songs and he is a treasure that needs to be shared.
There's a much nerdier Peter Hollens "Tolkien" tribute Medley....
Hobbit Drinking Medley - Peter Hollens feat. Hank Green!!
So very many Peters and Hanks.
He has a full album of Tolkien.
no. really? omg... on my way!!!
Yes. LOTR for the WINNNNNNN
@@PeterHollens Just to be pedantic, I'm sticking with Tolkien, since "The Hobbit" isn't part of LOTR :)
I love how much heart and presence and science you bring out. thank you.
If i could suggest some song from Peter Hollens it would be:
* Toss a coin to your witcher (From the show Witcher)
* Hellfire (from Hunchback of notre dame)
* Spooky Halloween Mashup - Come Little Children & The Hanging Tree - Peter Hollens & Bailey Pelkman
* I see fire (Ed sheeran cover from The Hobbit)
* Epic Halloween medley (Fits the month perfect!)
He´s Amazing! Love both him and Home Free
Love from Sweden! :D
I love that mans voice! Amazing! But your reaction is priceless!!😁😁😁😁 I have never seen such joy on anyone's face like that! Great !
Your reaction to low notes always cracks me up 😂
This is far an away my favorite reaction from you. This is one of my favorite UA-cam videos... when combined with your detailed breakdown, genuine excitement, and animated expressions, it was enjoyable to watch.
Hi Elizabeth I like watching reactors when Tim hits that low note. I loved your performance
ooooh, loved hearing this with ya.... see the joy of that heavenly harmony echoed in your expressions..... it is pure magic.
You might like to listen to "The Hound and the Fox" they're a couple who have worked with Home Free and Peter Hollens on occasion...
I like their ( fox and hound) recent Halloween piece
Three Kings by them has Tim too
Yes - you mentioned FifGen, but did you know that two of the trio that made up FifGen are also singers and musicians, and now have their own channel as the Hound and the Fox?
Pls, you MUST see the danish national orchestra version of this. Its just magical. Hope you see this comment and enjoy your day.
As you love Peter's layering with clean notes, I think his cover of Dark Horse with Sam Tsui is one of the best examples. It plays with your ear so cleverly.
Peter Hollens also did a Hobbit Drinking Songs Medley, if that's something that you'd be interested in.
I just love how you can't contain your excitement listening to this
While on the subject of acapella - I highly recommend Peter's version of Baba Yetu from Civilization with Malukah!
As well as "Notre Dame Medley" by the Ringmasters, a European (Swedish, I think?) Barbershop quartet performing live in one of the best acapella performances I ever saw!
I just love how giddy you get from that last low note...let's me know I'm not the only one that feels that way! Great commentary throughout!
Can't wait to watch this video! I enjoy your reactions very much and I really wish your channel to keep growing! You are killing it :)
Greetings from Guatemala!
I just gotta say your reactions to songs , just keep me stoked about why music is so awesome.
Oh man that put chills down my spine, and that is very rare for me, EXCELLENT!
Check out Peter's duet with his wife Evynne Hollens "The Prayer"
yes
Definitely
So much yes, it was one of my first Peter Hollens videos I ever watched and I got hooked
I've watched this dozens of times, never picked up on the lighting difference on the split screen. Loved the way you jumped on the last note.
I just love it that you're such a fangirl. Your reactions are always joy to watch.
One of my favorite songs... and your way of explaining it at the end... really paints a picture.
Tim's last super low note shook the camera!!!
