I've been a Shirley Temple fan ever since they started showing her movies on TV on Sunday afternoons back in the '60s when I was about 8 years old but if I had known about Baby Rose Marie, I would have said, "Shirley who?" If you could have put Shirley's tap dancing with Rose Marie's voice, I don't know if I could have handled it!
Rose Marie was said to have a strikingly deep voice, even when she was a small child. Even though the recording quality is not good here, you can hear her signature gut-bucket growl.
She said in an interview once that that growly style of singing as a child affected her voice permanently. I used to think she was a heavy smoker, but she swore she never smoked!
I thought she was great here. I don't understand why she wasn't starring in Hollywood films in these years. There could have been more than one girl child singer. She was in charge of herself! Thanks.
Timing. Rose Marie was 5 years older than Shirley Temple and by the time the talkies really got their act together Rose Marie was no longer a "child wonder"
@@BG-sl9lv I choose to believe that regardless of her age, she would have been loved and a money-maker for movies to the mid 1930s. It might have been some behind the scenes deals with talent agencies and like that; if they had a child star sometimes people tried to block other talented children from what would have looked like competition. I think RM indicated they just went back on the road and to NYC.
Forget Temple. Go, Rose. Nothing Babyish about thus GIANT talent.

What a sweetheart. RIP, and thank you for the laughs, Rose Marie.

@@sharpear1031 Rose Marie had the enduring talent to have a life long career in entertainment. That's vindication.
