I love aviation, flew often with my elder brother who is a PPL But expense has curtailed real flying. I am very engrossed in Flight Simulator 2020. For years now I have tried keeping up with PC requirements, and have finally achieved my dream, VR flight sim. Very much fulfills my aviation experience. I am quite happy with 2020 and just don't need the hassle of having to chase never ending higher requirements to continue my hobby. And 2020 graphics and performance will satisfy me for years to come.
Recently I was in the process of buying a new house in a different area from where I am now. Paid a deposit and had an inspection done. Then I found out the Internet service provided at that address was inferior to the Gigabyte speed I have now. Sale cancelled! I can put up with a lot but poor internet... Ain't doing it.
MSFS and XP user here. I think with GA planes like A2A Comanche, there’s really no question of physics or systems fidelity on MSFS. Seems like bit of an old argument to me. The new MSFS also provides lots of hooks to create a custom flight simulation engine for 3rd party devs - so it will be exciting to see what people come up with.
With add-ons like that, not much of an issue at all. I still discuss that point because I assume that not all viewers will know it. There are so many new simmers every day.
Movies are filmed at 24 frames per second. You don't need 60 frames per second average, what you need is that your frame rate is smooth with a very high 1% frame rate. *It is the 1% low that really determines the way the sim feels* . If the 1% low is 24 fps, the game will be enjoyable. I can drop down to 30 FPS on my system and the game is still smooth because I have very high 1% lows.
30 fps was the BBC Cathode Ray television whole screen update. No-one moaned there was stuttering. Even football games, the ball could be followed. Early satelite TV when a football game was shown, the ball turned into a square of pixels when it was moving across the screen. It was crap. 30 fps, I can't detect any inferior movement, cus I'm an old git who grew up on BBC Sports. I installed a package of software which adjusts the TLOD to achieve a target fps. I set it at 40 fps and the scenery is great. I can see the runway at 8 miles from 3000ft. Happy.
Movies are shot in 24 fps for a "look" and it is the standard. You are correct about the 1% lows, but when giving advice I would never recommend the bottom. Many people will add things to the sim and then what was once 30 fps will eventually drop lower. 60 fps is a goal because it leaves room for growth and updates down the road.
@@jameslee-pevenhull5087 absolutely dead wrong, broadcast TV on CRT ran at 50hz in europe and 60hz in america. some programming could use half the framerate, particularly movies, but sports would most definitely have used the full rate. CRT's also didn't have the same motion smearing as modern TV's do.
@@JoeNDBAVIATION movies are shot at 24 to save money on film reels, which are expensive, and high speed projectors are also more expensive to run. 24 was decided to be the minimum framerate that would look "good enough". since the 60's there have been attempts to get movies to run at 60fps or higher, but the economics have fought against it. The "look" is a modern excuse invented simply from being conditioned by decades of a cost saving measure. all modern cinema projectors run at 120hz or more, so there is no reason to use 24 on a digital film other than tradition.
Anyone who got started in Flight Sims in version 4.0 knows that we used to buy the software on discs, and inside the box was a User Manual. I don't miss those sims but I do wish they still believed in paper back manuals. I hope someone writes a book on "Getting the Most out of Flight Sim 2024" with full, easy to understand instructions on setting up controls/peripherals as one chapter. I believe 2024 will have a slightly better system than 2020 does for this task. Time will tell. Or, failing getting a paper manual, how about a down loadable file specifically designed for the equipment you use, that would program your system in the most logical set up?
i5 10600 {65w} 48gb ram. rtx 3090. pimax crystal do you think i need a full rebuild for vr. 500mbps internet download, mostly choppers and slow and low planes.
What fps are you seeing currently with that setup in Msfs 2020? That is a nice setup, maybe a cpu bump but looking at the intel specs you might be okay.
RTX 4070 / 4060 paired with Ryzen 7 7700 X + 32 GB RAM? Between 4060 and 4070 which one you would recommend to guarantee min 30 FPS in MFS2024? Or even any other alternative GPU’s ? Thank you
The 4070 or a 7900XT would be my main choices in that price point. MSFS 2024 will have a new feature allowing you to set the target fps, it will automatically adjust the appearance to achieve the fps. So, you could go down to the 4060 if you so choose. The visuals will adapt, that could be annoying though.
Two very different sim genres. DCS is a combat sim and an entirely different experience. I wish I had the time to get back into DCS. My last combat sim was Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2. I did dabble in DCS in the middle of Covid but did not have the time for it sadly.
Please let me know if you think I need an upgrade, I am also considering adding a VR headset. my specs: Device name Flying-Machine Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700KF 3.40 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.9 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
What video card and hard drive/SSD/NVME are you using? VR can be intensive, I would recommend looking on the msfs forums to see what others are saying about that processor.
MSFS flight dynamics are very nudgy, many times I had the thirst to fly Sim but when ever I fly the Msfs I don’t get this satisfaction fed and I end up closing it and hit back to P3d or Xplane , if msfs team could copy the Xplane physics then problem would be solved. But they tend to put a lot of concentration on Graphics. Beside the camera interaction is horrible. They have a lot of work to do and I am not convinced it will be accomplished in 2024.

I have been working on a pdf for something along those lines. It just takes time. If you had a choice, would you prefer a video or pdf?

Question. Will my processors run cooler playing MSFS2024?
What are they and how are they cooled?

@@JoeNDBAVIATIONThank you. Appreciate that.
I'm curious why you don't like Prepar3D.
I really have nothing against it, just not enough time to add it in or spend enough time in the sim to truly speak about it.
I also use Xplane and Msfs. I love what both bring to the table. It’s going to be interesting to have 3 sims now 😅
Same!

None of these are anywhere near the game quality of DCS though 😂
