“Your a monster Bode.”
“No, I’m a father.”
That’s a tough line.
It's rings true though. Love is a double edge sword. Many great things can come from it, but also, many dark things can as well.
@@S1D3W1ND3R015 Love can lead one to good, but also to evil. Love can both save or condemn, pretty much.
very similar to Joel in Last of Us
Man I hate bode for betraying Cal but man at the same time I can’t blame him.
he is none the less a monster. just like annakin who did great evil for love so did bode. he sold out everyone for his little girl and then even when she pleaded him to stop he wouldnt.
Cal looked like he was holding back so much murderous intent while Bode was explaining his past.
It was like watching a spy plea his innocence as you know he'll sell everyone out for his own skin
He is holding back because Cal doesn’t want Kata to lose her innocence.
@@lumberluc True, that is quite selfish he is doing.
"He's using the girl as a shield...THIS IS LOW, EVEN FOR YOU!!"
@Double-R-Nothing Yep, no wonder Bode's wife will be quite disappointed and disgusted if she was alive.
Cal has killed more surviving Jedi than all the inquisitors combined
It’s not like they gave him a choice

It's kind of cool how the entire theme of the games is just how monstrous the Jedi can become in the name of survival.
Well most have fallen to the dark side
Man bode calling cal his best friend is just so powerful, it sounds like he really means it, and after finishing the game it just sad to hear him say "we had a fight, but we'll get things settled"
Exactly, Both being Jedi survivors they were like brothers even though Cal never knew. Best friends because they belonged to the same tribe and grew up together. It's so genuine when he says it because he means it. Cal is his best friend. A fellow Jedi in hiding who he can relate to. The Jedi Survivor being Bode not Cal is stunning. What a great game.
Sad thing is he does. He’s trying to survive too. But to say Bode went about it the wrong way is an understatement.
Literally the only time I felt remotely sorry for this asshole.
its sad that the majority of enemies cal has faced are all fallen jedi, most of them were just "survivors" of tragic situations
Not going to lie, I like Bode better as an antagonist. He was fun as a companion but his love for his daughter turning him to the dark side is a fun rehash of Anakin’s fall. After losing his wife the thought of losing his daughter was too painful… if you’ve ever lost a loved one or had a child that will hit very hard.
I genuinely did not see that twist coming, and it does make you think. Even if Padme survived and he got to raise his kids, Anakin's family and attachments could've potentially still lead him to be exploited and turned to the dark side!
Mad at the end he fell so much into the dark side by the final his action put her in direct danger several times to save himself and her.
Bode nearly killed her daughter several times, Cal pretty much saved her at least once.
... That's why the concept of "No spouse, no children, no attachments" was reinforced in the Old Republic.
It just made Jedi easier to fall to the Dark Side to protect everyone they love, even when it burned everything around them.
Though, a couple of Sith got it right, and died of old age surrounded by the ones the love.
@@lumberluc But the constraints of forbidding personal relationships can also cause Jedi to fall to the dark side and turn that hate towards the order. That's why Luke encourages his new Jedi Order that it was ok to fall in love, get married, and start families (at least in the old Legends continuity, not sure about the current Canon). At the end of the day, Luke believed that if someone fell to the dark side, the Jedi just need to be willing enough to guide that person back to the side of the Force.
Who’s here after Bode’s actor, Noshir Dalal, shared some cool insights about this scene on Twitter
Cals rage is .... actually kinda scary.
The fact he just zips about. Hacking enemies to bits. And the fact he just force chokes the officer in a unhinged state of anger...i dont know if its just me but when i saw this scene i got chills
God help Denvik if Merrin wasn't there
That is what happens when you push a Jedi too far.
That line, "This is my best friend... We had a fight, but we'll get things settled." it really sounded like he meant it, that hurt me, man...
Bode used to be a good man and Jedi but after his wife died, he became blinded by the dark side. The Jedi Order weren’t completely wrong about forming attachments but it’s the way people form attachments that matters instead of just blocking off all attachments. Anyone agree?
It is the choices we put into actions that define us. I agree with you 100%
The EU of Star Wars novels dealt with this very thing. Luke Skywalker used his positive emotion of love for Mara Jade to give him strength and power. But Luke also made it clear to his students that forming those kind of attachments create "pressure points" that the Dark Side can use. So he taught balance: using the positive emotions of love to move one to act selflessly and with focus, but also not giving into anger or hate when those you love get taken away from you. Bode did not master that last point, obviously
Jolee Bindo says it best of how love would save and redeem someone not condemn them.
I agree.😔
@@dandewizzle2479 That’s why I miss EU Luke because his canon counterpart let history repeat itself and he later became a hermit
As a kid you like the hero, and an adult you understand the villain
I understand why Bode’s scared of losing his daughter, but everything he did was out of fear, not love. He was willing to let thousands, if not millions, suffer from the Empire just so he can escape
No not true. Im adult and not understanding him a bit. If he wants to to good for his daughter he choose a very wrong path. He could have been honest to cal, especially because the empire killed his wife. No he plays both sides. He is just a selfisch asshole. If he had any morals he would have choosen cals side and be honest to him. That would also fullfill his goal to keep his daughter safe. And kata would still have a dad. "Understanding" comes not from growing up. There is nothing to understand in the first place.
6:56 Godamn cal
Cal buddy you need some therapy
Bro massacred all those imperial troops in anger💀
He did master Cordova dirty
Sidious probably watching Cal and his dark side moment, good my ginger friend , use the dark Side it makes you stronger,
Proceeds to start hurling Ginger insults to fuel Cal's anger and hatred 😂😂
This scene is beautiful it’s insane how much they improved from the first game
“Rather you than lord vader” damn and the fact that he DID kill him eventually
I really like what they ended up doing with Bode, it was pretty fucking obvious that his loyalty wasn't to Cal, but they still made him a very likable villain :)
Yeah one of the first things i said about this character on coruscant was “this guy is a spy 100%”. Did not think he was a dark jedi though
I feel like the only person who didnt see it coming, i just thought he would die saving cal or something
What Made it so "pretty fucking abvious?" It wasnt
@@Andie_Videos IN A WAY it was obvious but the twist for most people is that the jedi thing
You like him? Wtf
Bode really was like anakin in so many ways. Willing to betray and take out anyone for the ones he cared about. The cal and bode fight made me see a little bit of that obi wan vs anakin banter on mustafar. It really was a shame. I liked bode. Seemed like a cool character but damn it got pretty intense in the end of the game. I liked that high republic character a lot more. But they kinda just threw him aside rather quickly. But hey this story was wild. The empire may have been on the sidelines this game but the biggest thing we all learned from this game is to stay true to yourself. And to understand what’s really important.
That part in the final fight where they grab each others arms holding the lightsaber definitely gave me Obi-wan vs Anakin flashbacks
I would’ve liked to have seen more of Dagan because he was extremely awesome but he got plenty of screen time and 3 boss fights. The Bode twist was awesome and set the game up for a great final act.
His story sounds more like Shang Chi's father, who lost his wife and goes on a rampage, killing the Iron Gang.
I love that Cal's self righteousness is his biggest weakness. He's constantly judging the actions of others without considering their unique situation, and it's delivered not as some heroic trait but as something he needs to work on
Yeah it's a frustrating but admirable trait, that I hope is intentional.
I mean cal has his own dark side as well. Plus bode was completely in the wrong here
Isn't that basically the Jedi in a nutshell?
to be fair with Cal, it’s not really his fault, he was pretty much raised by people who were so devoided of any kind of emotional attachment they had little to no empathy for others and were strict about that rule to the point of dogmatism plus he wasn’t really wrong about Bode
I mean, Bode used him all along, manipulated him, got Cere and Cordova killed (the last one in cold blood), and did not give a flying fuck about giving the entire Hidden Path list (full of innocents fleeing the Empire) to Darth Vader. Cal is entirely right - though Bode's motives are understandable, his actions are monstruous. He basically has no qualms killing and throwing under the bus thousands of people, including those who belonged to his family of Jedi, just to protect his own daughter.
Guys, I wanted to share something I just discovered. Let’s see in Canon there are 3 classes of Jedi, Consular, Guardian and Sentinel. I consider the sentinel as the “Jedi detectives or agents” because they were sent to gather intel, assassinations, cover investigations, destroy underworld criminal cells, etc. They were as powerful in combat as a Guardian an as powerful in the force as a Consular, and since they covered up secret missions, they needed to be stealthy and hide their force powers to others and they didn’t use the traditional Jedi robes instead they dressed like normal civilians….
Bode mentions that the Council sent him and others to gather intelligence and that he used the skills he learned to survive, and he hide its powers from Cal, which is a complicated Skill since normally others force user would sense another one, Palpatine used it during the republic years to remain hidden from all those Jedi.
Was Bode probably a Jedi Sentinel? It’s a concept that we haven’t seen in Canon and I would love to see more of this Jedi Class.
i think quinlan voss was similar to bode
Basically Consulars are force oriented, guardians are lightsaber(and fight) oriented.
And Sentinels rely on skills(and mix of both Consular+Guardian but very good at none)
Sentinels are a middle path with strong force and saber skills. But, their uniqueness is the usage of skills outside the order, that and their mission set being more unorthodox.
So yes, he most definitely fits the jedi Sentinel mold. Personally I was kinda hoping he was a jedi shadow since he says he worked in gathering intelligence and used his skills to disappear.
And the Classes in Legends?
@Mr Banditos Except they don't depend too much on the Force. For the Consulars (Green) - you knock a door. For the Guardians (Blue) - you push/break a door. And for the Sentinels (Yellow) - you unlock a door - by using any tools without the Force. The Sentinels are less on combat, but they hesitate to attack or defend themselves. Using the Force and lightsaber is secondary, only if necessary.
I don't know about you... but if I was a stormtrooper and witnessed a jedi striking down like 20 other stormtroopers and officers in the span of like half a second... my response would be to drop my gun and be like "Nope. We're cool. You don't need to kill me. I don't even wanna kill you anyway. I want all of none of this. Bye." My response would definitely not be to charge in, thinking "Yeah, I can take that."
Also, father of the year award goes to "Why stay with the good guys and save my daughter, when I could instead save my daughter by sacrificing thousands of innocent people?"
My thougths exactly, but remember that if u do that ur the one who has to talk with an Inquisitor or Vader of why ur team fail to protect the area.
OK I need you to look at this in a narrative point because to him the empire was unbeatable he would not risk his daughter being put in the line of fire if it meant losing her. He doesn’t even wanna be a part of this conflict because his loyalties lie with family.
It’s more of “why stay with the good guys that MAY give me a chance of saving my daughter, when I COULD instead save my daughter by sacrificing thousands of innocent people?”
And then Vader walks in and force chokes saying you impudent coward you dare defy me?
"This is my best friend. We had a fight but we'll get things settled."
GOD that hurts.
Gotta love how Merrin, a user of dark side magic, is what stops Cal from turning to the dark side.
What I like about it, is the fact that it brings a lot more nuance to the dark side of the force, which is rarely ever explored because most users wind up being completely corrupted by it and the intense feedback loop of emotions. It's not the use of dark side force that's bad, but actively acting on the dark and evil desires that are reinforced by its use, which winds up corrupting you. Makes me wonder if Cal would start learning to dip into some dark side force in the 3rd game, but channeling it in a controlled and disciplined way, kinda like an even more badass version of Mace Windu.
@@emosgowoof I’ve always kinda thought that too. Starkiller used the dark side but was obviously serving the light, at the end of the game at least. Not canon anymore, I know.
@@emosgowoofhold on mace windu doesn’t have THAT kind of dark side
It’s just my opinion but I’d like to think Dathomirian magic is a different brand of dark side not truly accustomed to those practiced by the Sith
@@bradkeen9760 it isn’t, but it is still the dark side. There’s a reason that Sidious felt the need to wipe the nightsisters out(yes, in the son of Dathomir comic, he saw Mother Talzin as a threat to his power and an equal in terms of dark side). So they do use the darkside, and they are all force sensitive, they just don’t practice the ideology of the Sith.
him being a jedi blew my mind like i did not expect that
I think Kata would become Cal apprentice.
I just realized there's a couple tells that Bode was a jedi throughout the story, while they are about to leave Coruscant, Cal says "Bode, may the force be with you." And it stunlocks Bode for a moment cus that's a saying he probably hasn't heard in a long time.
Nice to see Charles' voice actor getting more roles.

I have a feeling that in the next game we will get a dark side and light side option with different endings.
I doubt it. Think Cal will definitely crossover to live-action so choice endings seem unlikely.
It might be like an Ezra type situation. Struggling between both light and dark because he wants to protect his friends.
That's if we get a third game, considering just how terrible the launch was for this game.

KILL EM ALL!
well hes dead
Survived, but went rogue after the death of his wife, and he made a deal by joining the ISB (Imperial Security Bureau), so Inquisitors will not notice that the ISB were hiding a Jedi.
Well, Obi-Wan did send out a distress beacon to warn all the remaining Jedi to do whatever it takes to survive when he and Yoda stormed the Jedi temple. Looks like it worked a lot better than people gave him credit for. Also, the Galaxy is ginormous.
Order 66 apparently only means kill 66 Jedi and call it a day😂😂😂
Well a few hundred
Honestly, Bode was straight up a mouth breather. He could have explained his backstory to Cal and then they could have rescued his daughter together, but nope he just had to snitch them to the Empire and result in the death of thousand innocent.
I know he was played as a tragic character but I just cant feel sorry for him after this
Yeah, I feel sorry only for his daughter. Her father wanted her to live her life alone on isolated planet. If that's not domestic violence I don't know what it is
I think this was essentially was turned Bode's crystal red. He became more and more paranoid about losing his daughter until eventually just falling to the Dark Side.

We look up to our parents so much. She wants a little backpack like her dad. Great game. Bode was a real highlight in the final act.
When Cal embraced the dark side, I embraced the dark side. This game did such an incredible job of relaying anger and betrayal to the player. I feel heartbroken and betrayed now that the game is over.
4:54 “The first time I held her… I felt the entire galaxy in her eyes.”
“This is my best friend.”
Despite the horrible shit he’d done - ratting Cere and the Anchorites/the Path out the Empire, killing Cordova - you could tell he meant every word of it. That said… he had to go. Innocent people died during the battle for Jedha. In trying to save Kata, Bode sort of became Anakin - losing himself to the dark side, putting that one single attachment over the lives of many others.
A best friend doesnt Stab you in the back, rattling you out to your arch Enemy leading to many deaths including your Master and teacher, work against you, killing your rather Figure, Tries to Kill you and your friends. And he doesnt even show one tony piece of regret. This is not what a best friend does. Your actions have more weight than your words. And Bode is delusional. He gets whats coming for him
@@hel7695 hey, I agree with you. I said Bode lost himself. He did mean every word and still considered Cal his best friend, I think - which shows he lost his marbles, because if Bode actually knew Cal, he’d know the latter would never forgive him for this betrayal.
Hmm, nice touch on the Dark Side and its effects. You could feel how he could use more juice but also see him getting drained of his sanity (becoming more violent) as well.
The desire to do good, can also lead those down the Dark path
Cal going full Starkiller.
Is that, the lightsaber form Cal uses when he goes dark, is that Juyo? Cause it looks a lot like what I'd imagine
This gives me Kill Bill vibes. Anyone else? When The Bride meets Bill but her daughter is present so they cannot kill each other. What a great scene developing Bode.
After Order 66, Cal has met 8 Jedi/ former Jedi and only 2 of them were nice
Nice ones: Cere and Cordova. Not nice ones: Trilla, Ninth Sister, Vader, Fifth Brother, Dagan, Bode.

Arthur: "Charles? Is that you?"
Cal shows here a very high degree of empathy, speaking to and trying to understand the view of somebody who just killed Master Cordoba and betrayed the whole crew which resulted to Ceres death....He also respects the little girl and the father-daughter relationship and tries not to escalate the situation while remaining totally honest. What a human being....Somebody else would definitely use the situation in his favor and take the little girl as hostage in order to get the compass back.

Since both of the games' stories are so good, I just have a bad feeling about the show they are going to do with Cal.

Cal just pointed the blaster Bode gave him at Kata and said:
“If you want to keep being a father then you’ll place the compass on the table…and leave.”
Which would honestly, really sell Cal flexing his dark side after all the loss he went through and Bode being so unreasonable on Tanalor. Because Cal would have threatened his daughter.
Kata is Luke and Leia’s age here. Come to think of it this is around the same time as Obi-Wan and Solo.
Couldn't have Bode stayed with the anchorites and travel with them to Telanorr?
Basically, Bode believed giving Tanalorr to the Hidden path would make them vulnerable still. He either thought it would make them a bigger target or could invite spies to give it away and then it wouldnt be safe.

As soon as Bode betrayed us I was fine with making Kata an orphan.
One complaint with this game... They needed to leave either Bode or Dagan alive to eventually join us. Seems like a waste to off them both after one go.
Honestly do wish that they did more with Dagan. Him even seeing Tanalorr again, even if one last time as a good guy on the Mantis crew, would have been a nice conclusion to his arc. If they still had to kill him then at least make him die during Bode’s fight or something. That’s a complaint I share with you, but besides that I do like the game and story.
I think they're doing the best they can with the premise. The whole point of the Jedi series is that there's not a lot of them left. Having an entire crew of active Jedi sort of downplays why Luke is so important.
I understand bode situation. I would've burn the whole world to the ground if my wife life been taken away from me and i would do anything to keep my family safe, but it didn't justify what he did to the other people. You can always find a choice no matter the situation.

While I don’t like Bode’s choice and all, I understand that you must be willing to save your family at any cost. Even if it means sacrificing yourself in the process.
Its one thing to give your life, its another to condemn yourself and everyone else paying the price
He wanted to sacrifice his daughter's happiness. She would live all her life alone. Creepy as hell
It's one thing to sacrifice yourself, and another entirely to sacrifice thousands of innocent people who didn't ask for any of it and also have families of their own
He survived order 66 by doing order 69 with the emperor
Charles Smith?
Yes
At this point, it’s just sad! Cal has the power to survive from a lot empire attacks. But the people he call friends won’t be that lucky . They go on missions with him then die from the mission . What is the point to “save” the universe when the consequence is sacrificing the love ones .
First thing I saw the thumbnail, it was already SUS... 👀
So no one caught the Episode 2 egg?
Bode should have found another way.
Why didnt that fool just take his daughter and go with the Path to the planet? The Mantis crew would have helped him get his daughter to safety if he had just asked.
Bode is living proof that the Empire can have a spy, even a Force-sensitive one, anywhere at anytime. If the Hidden Path brought one in, not knowing until it was too late, Tanalorr would be a tomb world; the Empire would follow them, using their spy's info, and annihilate it. Bode saw no future in The Hidden Path plan because HE was proof that it wasn't 100% secure. Hard to convince an Imperial spy that got to Tanalorr that an Imperial spy could never reach Tanalorr.
At this time the empire seemed unstoppable. He didn’t wanna risk Tanallor potentially falling because Imperials are searching for the Hidden Path
