When Michael said "by the time I'm 50, I know I will not have this." It broke my heart ❤. Nobody deserves to have any diseases. In the case of Michael, such a tragedy... He brought me joy and laughter when I saw Back To The Future 1, 2 and 3 (even if I wasn't born in 1985). You're a hero Michael. May God bless you 🙏

I try not to look at this as a tragedy. He, himself, said it isn't. It's his life. Yes, he still has it, but look at where his optimistic attitude has got him❤

That last statement breaks my heart. Not only is he past 50, but it’s progressed a great deal. I truly do believe though, that a cure is now possible, and almost solely due to the research his foundation has accomplished. This man is a true hero. Because of him, those affected can now stave off their symptoms for longer periods of time, and eventually, no one will have to endure this disease. While his acting was a blessing, his true talent and legacy is and will be that of his refusal to let Parkinson’s happen not only to himself, but to the rest of us

@@merricat3025 No, unfortunately there isn’t. We have amazingly intelligent medical minds, and yet there are still certain diseases whose complexity still escapes them. It will happen eventually though. Just think of the strides that have been made with HIV/AIDS. 40 years ago, people died within months to a few years. Today, given the right treatment, it’s nearly impossible to detect on lab tests, and people live a normal life span.

@@merricat3025 there’s also a very rare neurological condition called spinocerebellar ataxia. I know a couple people who have it, and it slowly robs you of your ability to walk, then makes it difficult to breathe, ect. It has some similarities to ALS. Because of its rarity, research is limited, and a cure is most likely light years away. Its so sad

My husband lost his battle will Parkinson’s after11 years. He was 58 when diagnosed and passed at 69. He was a Neuro Trauma ICU nurse. Took him bit by bit, Finally succumbed to not walking and bed ridden. Difficulty swallowing and keeping food down because the muscles stopped working. His mind was very sharp except when he had hallucinations which were side effects from the Parkinson’s meds.

Surprised he had surgery. As a holistic and someone who had a concussion and subsequent nerve damage, I wonder if alternative therapy can help. I've had a numb finger, told nerve damage sign. I had a high school friend who recommended pycnogenal..which I sporadically take. They combine it with resverotral as well which is in grapes. As a senior. Not believing in invasive.

I can tell you. One time I was in a store, missed a step and had a knee injury. I took medication which temporarily relieved the problem which kept recurring. I had a friend holistic do therapeutic touch on my knee. As she held her hands over the injured knee, I felt my skin lift and the inflammatory condition slowly go away. Never caused me trouble after that. But she was a particularly sensitive person. There are a lot of people into Reiki and other alternatives who are there for reasons other than genuine healing. Therapeutic touch was the first healing modality brought to the US by a nurse in California. You have to be a really pure, clear spiritual person to be so sensitive to use the gifts of healing. That is why I have to clear my energies after encountering toxic people.

I watched a speech by Woody Harrelson where he told a story about Michael's attempt to drink Cobras blood. Was that before or after the diagnosis? Was the environment there??somehow a contributing factor. Just a thought since the year??I have to add FAMILY TIES was a pure delight to watch. Wishing my family life was like that. Somewhere in his journey, something toxic happened along the way. I wish my interactions with actors were more productive but I have a story.

Why can’t they use stem cells for Parkinson’s-
Michael is an exceptional human being - Parkinson’s won’t keep him or his spirits down- he’s blessed with a good healthy wife to be there for him -

He describes it in a chilling way in his book. At first he didn't feel anything, he didn't hear a word the doctor said, he went outside and he just stood there and felt like hours could pass and he still couldn't move. Than he took a taxi home and looked at this pamphlet the doctor gave him where there was a picture of an old happy couple and all he wanted was to kill them. And his doctor. One of the most powerful facts is that he'd left the pamphlet in the car without even noticing it, like his mind told him "you're not ready." Then he got home and he couldn't talk, he just gestured to his wife to come with him to their bedroom, closed the door and told her. That was when he started crying, very rightfully so. I cried all the way through this description it's a lot longer and a lot more beautiful than my summary here. Read it. It's not what you think.

Hard to see this interview now knowing what we know. I admire his relentless and authentic optimism but that closing comment about being free of Parkinson's by 50 is such a gut punch as it reveals the imbalance of optimism similar to those that are paralyzed saying they will walk again when there is not yet any reason to think this will happen. Parkinson's, as with paralysis, has proven to be an enduring challenge and as much as we like to think we'll conquer everything there may be some human glitches we may never master or will take far longer than any of us would wish. Sadly Parkinson's is proving to be one. Fox has raised $1.5 BILLION and yet an understanding of the causes and treatments, much less a cure, has yet to emerge.

Barbra Walters: What do you think, you’re 29 years old and the doctor says you have Parkinson’s Disease, how did that make you feel.
Me: How do you think he felt?!

i was 28 and diagnosed with probable ms. i was alone and when i left the dr office i drove accross the road and sat in my car in a parking lot and stopped myself from crying cus i didnt want to breakdown. i didnt breakdown till weeks later. i was out walking with my dog. i thought i lost site of him and i felt hopeless because i felt i had limitations now. i sat in the field and cried. My dog came running to me and knock me. We finished our walk and all i was thinking about is i dont know what my future looks like but im ok today. i wrote this to say that you have to appreciate what you have when you have it
i have been lucky. Its been 30 years and my battles have been manageable

Barbara Walters is rude and brutal. Shes like Oprah, and Liz Hayes from 60 Minutes Australia. So demoralising!

God's sense of humor is sick and twisted. That's been my experience, anyway.

Don't know why people give God credit for the good in the world and blame him for the bad.
It has nothing to do with God it's part of our Journey as a human experience because of free agency.
Michael J. Fox sharing his journey with us and helping so many proves to me that we are here for a reason we must embrace our journey as he has.
