Hi, we're actually at Bovec tonight for a few days before going over the pass so in reverse to yourselves. Everything you've said is spot on. We came here 8ys ago and vowed to come back. Love Slovenia and the lovely people who live here. Great vlog as usual.
Ah nice - we only had 2 nights in Bovec as the Dolomites weather was looking fab and we wanted to get across hiking. The Soca river - I think is the most stunning in the world ♥️ have a great trip 🚐
I'm 57 and still working because I spent a chunk of my pension buying a van two years ago! I was in kranjska gora 9 years ago, hiking and cycling. It's stunning.
A great investment though that will just keep rewarding you 🚐 The freedom to explore and travel that a van brings you is worth it! We love Kranjska Gore as a base to explore
Jackie and Richard - best adventure film I’ve seen in ages ! Watching you both scaling those cliffs and waterfalls, maneuvering those winding roads, the COLOURS in that landscape, village trips, pristine lakes - what a trip you took us on! Thank you!
Thank you - Slovenia is just stunning - definitely one of our happy places 😊 the last section of the waterfall walks was certainly a little challenging 🥾🏔️ we love that every corner you turn around in the Triglav brings another stunning view and the colours of the water ♥️🇸🇮
Glad you enjoyed it! We loved Slovenia when we went 5 years ago and it really did not disappoint when we went back - it was even more beautiful than we remember!
We had never heard of the Triglav National Park before we ended up there 5 years ago when we abandoned the Dolomites because of the weather. It was probably one of the best detours we have ever made! Now it truly is one of our happy places 🚐 ❤️⛰️ It is simple stunning.
Your video is not bad. I am surprised you did not go to Planica as it was on your doorstep from Kranjska Gora plus Tromjeja which is also very close from the charming village of Ratece
All places we will have to visit next time - we had 2 days of awful weather which limited our exploring a little 🚐 the Triglav NP is one of our favourite places ❤️
Love watching your adventures. You are a true inspiration to us. We are just getting started on our adventures; first time abroad to France. We are adding destinations to our 'bucket list' every time we watch your adventures .....thank you! Hx
Thank you - glad you are getting some ideas of places to visit. Our bucket list just keeps getting bigger the more we travel!! Hope you enjoy France - we love the little villages that are so well set up with aires and the beautiful buildings. 🚐
Fabulous, that must have been a Grade 1 scramble, well done 🙂❤️🐾🚐 Slovenia looks amazing, thank you for sharing your travels, we're just back from a campervan trip to Lymington, a bit tame compared to your adventures, nevertheless we love it just as much as you do. Cheers xxx
It was certainly a little tricky in places! But so worth the view at the top by the waterfall! I quite enjoy scrambling but I am glad there was the wire rope to help come back down 😬 I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Lymington - a place we have never been. We just love getting away into the wilds in the van - both in the UK and Europe. Have a great week x
We fell in love with Slovenia 5 years ago and it was the place we wanted to visit the most on this trip - we spent 10 days there in the end! Even the rain couldn’t put us off!
So beautiful, especially the Lake. Jealous of you getting to experience the Dolomites for the first time. That was us last year and we absolutely ❤ being there.😊😊😊😊
Wow - the Dolomites were spectacular! We loved it around the Tre Cime area, we stayed for a couple of nights by Lake Misurina and a night up at the parking lot by The Cime. There are some great hiking trails. We also had a lovely stormy night by Lago di Braies 🚐
Fantastic content - love watching your videos. Delighted you are in Slovenia. As a keen kayaker, the Soca (pronounced Socha) valley is my fave place on the planet. Truly stunning.
As I said on the video I really think it is the most beautiful river in the world - those colours of the water that change depending on the depth and width ♥️ we spent 10 days in Slovenia in the end 🚐
Oh my word, thank you for such an awe inspiring video! Just got it watched in the lunch hour and will return to work ready for anything. Great piece to camera on your bike, Richard, a natural! Have fun on the next part of your amazing trip. Xx
You are so welcome! Slovenia and the Triglav National Park is one place we will keep returning to as it truly is one of our happy places. The Dolomites are up next and they were pretty spectacular too!!! ⛰️🚐🥾
We have absolutely loved it in Slovenia and we had a week in the Dolomites aswell which was fantastic getting out hiking 🥾 just starting to think about next years ski trip too 🚠 hope you are enjoying getting out and about and retirement is treating you well 😊
The Soca Valley ❤❤❤, I’d have to agree with you. We spent a few nights there on our way to Croatia. Simply stunning. Quite hard to adequately describe the natural beauty and vibe of the area. Thanks for this amazing vlog guys and safe travels.
It does just have a whole different feel doesn’t it along the Soca ♥️ I couldn’t think of words to describe how you catch the colour of the river through the dappled trees that just take your breathe away! Definitely one of our happy places 🚐🥾🇸🇮🏔️
Brilliant video guys. The mountainous scenery was absolutely amazing and the colour of the water in the rivers just stunning. Another place we need to add to the list. Keep safe. Irvine & Karen.
I wonder if anyone is as strange as I am with your videos (same with Herdy Travels and Extreme Moho), I listen to the spoken bit and whizz through the scenic bits, only because I don’t want to spoil it for my own eyes!!
No someone else has said something similar! There is a sense of anticipation that you don't know what you are going to see and a sense of awe when you get there. 😊 Thanks for listening to us two ramble on!!!
What a cracking film, and a stunning locations. We are also struggling with the European weather as we are in France in our van. I'm sure we will see it through.
Hope the weather improves for you! We are in Austria now - it has forecast rain for the last 3 days but we have actually had blue skies and hot weather! We quite like the odd wet day as it gives us time to do admin type stuff and clothes washing 🤣
Good day from the states. Love this videos and your many outdoor adventures. The views and sights and to know their is hiking, biking, walking or just staying in one place to enjoy the sights. I do appreciate the maps, especially the overview of where you are going to hike or where you are in the hike. I especially like when you show a map of the country to the other countries around it. I generally, at times, have to pull away from your video to check where you are in the world and then return to your video with a more informed location of where you are on the map. Please continue with your adventures, add those maps, and allow me to come along one video at a time.
Thanks Marilyn and thanks for your comment all the way from the states. It blows our mind as to how global UA-cam is. It's so nice to hear your lovely feedback and that you are enjoying what we do. We are trying to get the balance right with the experience of the travel with some additional information (such as routes etc) that people may find of use. It's good to hear that you find that informative. We are glad to hear that you are coming along with us! Thanks again for the comment👍
My favourite of all your vlogs ever, I've watched most of them as you have such a similar approach to travel and adventure. absolutely stunning. I'd have been up that pass on my bike too! Last year we were on a free aire at a ski resort in French Vosges. We'd come up a different way so I went to descend the pass then climb back to the van. It's a bit of a gulp moment as you know you're coming back up/will I make it! I didn't know there were cobbled bends, sort of saw a bit of a sign and was translating in my head and was on it. Fortunately stayed upright. It's quite hard changing surfaces as you're trying to power round a bend though coming back up. Well done. As for the wired waterfall walk, I'd be on that too. Just magnificent. We treat very bad weather days as rest/travel days or wet activities like swimming, waterfalls. As forecasting is so much better now it's easier to spot a better bit of a day and slot in something then. Even if just a coffee in the campsite cafe/town. It is harder to cope with when you only have 2 weeks though. It's good for us you had all that editing time, you made good use of it. Excellent work. 10/10 and a gold star!
Ah thank you so much - I think it is my favourite video too! There are just so many beautiful places in the National Park. We spent 10 days in Slovenia and could have spent 10 more as there are so many great hikes and cycle routes to do. We didn't even get to make the most of the bikes there - they have a lot of cycle paths through the valleys. Richard likes the challenges of the mountain passes to cycle - I am more of a valley cycle path person with the odd climb! I actually enjoy the odd bad weather day as it makes us slow down and rest up a little - I like nothing better than duvet day reading and watching Netflix 😊
It’s the other way round in our van, Steve likes flat/valleys/round lakes and chunters if I sneak in too many hills. 😂 We’ve got the mother of all games of gin rummy on the go most days, at home as well as in the van. Wet days for research, crochet/knitting and reading for me.
We absolutely loved our time in Slovenia - you live in a very beautiful country ❤️ thanks for the pronunciation tips - we really struggled pronouncing the place names especially the capital city. We will definitely visit again as there are still so many places we want to explore 😊
@@earlyretirementwanderlust You're so welcome here! People who enjoy all the beautis around, live their lives in full...keep searching and rockin'...love you guys!
Another great video, you really are doing all the hard work for me, i'm just listing down all the destinations we're aiming for, your photography only enhances it more. Keep up the great work, i'm sure we will cross paths one day.
What a wonderful vlog - I feel so calm after watching it! We’re currently on a busy campsite next to Lake Annecy…calm and peaceful it is not! 😂 Excited for you going to the Dollies after waiting so long. Probably my favourite place, so I’m looking forward to seeing your next video. Thanks for showing us Slovenia, I had no idea it was so amazing. 😊
Ah thank you ☺️ We love Slovenia and it truly is one of our happy places. We spent a week in the Dolomites - wow the scenery was just spectacular and such fantastic hiking trails - I can see why it is one of your favourite places ♥️ we really like lake Annecy- even though it gets so busy - it’s an easy place to be and just get the bikes out to get around. Have a great trip 🚐
I knew you’d love it - imagine skiing there! I forgot to ask - what’s Slovenia like for insects? Our daughter is currently in Croatia (again!) and thinks the mozzies are quite bad.
I’m planning to visit Croatia again with Slovenia now on the itinerary. Well done guys on another amazing video, with so much to unpack, I’ll need to watch it several times! The peacefulness, tranquility and emptiness of the park reminds me of the highlands of Scotland 40 years ago when I first visited before in mass influx of tourists.
@@commuterbranchline8132 I think Richard and Jackie should be getting paid by the Slovenian Tourist Board but at the same time I want to be a "tourist" in quiet places like them too but then again most places if you don't do the paid tours/attractions and can walk/cycle a km or 2 at least from car parks/towns/campsites etc it doesn't take long to get away from the masses, even in Scotland/Wales/Lakes etc
Another super video... Those waterfalls were amazing! How do you find all your walks and cycle routes? So you use a map or app or something else? Thanks to you both!
Thank you - we bought the Cicerone guide to the Julian Alps that has some great hikes in and the campsite camping Spik had a couple of free cycle and hiking maps that we used. Richard has the AllTrails app that helps if we get lost!! Lots of the trails are well signposted
Love it Richard and Jackie. Slovenia/Croatia are high on our list. Looking at a river tour next but perhaps next year for that area. How are the expenses: food, restaurants, coffee, gas, etc.?
As always we do try to do things on a budget so we can stay out travelling for longer and luckily travelling in May and June most ACSI campsites are still valid so our campsite fees are generally around €25 a night. Wild camping is not allowed in Slovenia and Croatia so we didnt find any free places to stay - there are some great aires but all still €20+ Food in the Supermarkets is about the same as the UK - the fresh meat and cheese sections more limited. We only ate out once for a Pizza which was delicious and €28 for 2 Pizzas and a litre of fizzy water so not bad. Diesel in Slovenia is very cheap compared to the other countries we travelled through. Nothing broke the bank - but had we been travelling in July August it would be a very different story campsite fee wise. Most would be €50 + per night and Croatia potentially €100 +!!! A river cruise sounds lovely - mum went on a Rhine Cruise a few years ago and enjoyed it.
Yes there is - we don't have a toilet which we find harder when staying in busier places but the aire would be great in a bigger van with facilities. 🚐
Slovenia and especially the Triglav national park are beautiful whatever the weather 🌦️ next time we visit we will go to Ljubljana as we have heard how wonderful it is. Richard really enjoyed cycling the Vrsic pass but would have liked to see the view 🚲 thanks for watching 😊🚐
