  • In this video, we take you on an unforgettable vanlife adventure through the majestic Dolomites, spending 48 hours in the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Join us as we explore the summer snowy high mountain trails, breathtaking landscapes, and the unique experience of living the vanlife in one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the world.
    Our adventure begins with taking the Google Maps "Special" route through the high mountain passes from Slovenia into the Italian Dolomites. It really was special, directing us up and down the roads less travelled and treating us to the most memorable views.
    We spend an unforgettable night at altitude under the stars in our little VW Campervan at the bucket list destination of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
    In this video we will cover:
    Scenic Drives: Experience the winding roads and stunning vistas as we drive our van through the heart of the Dolomites.
    Hiking Adventures: Join us on the trails around Tre Cime di Lavaredo, where we'll encounter snow even in the summer!
    Vanlife Insights: On how to navigate the pricing structure of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo toll road for vans.
    Nature's Beauty: Marvel at the towering peaks, lush meadows, and serene lakes that make the Dolomites a must-visit destination.
    Inspiration for Your Next Trip: Whether you're a seasoned vanlifer or planning your first trip, this video is packed with tips and inspiration.

      We have absolutely loved exploring the Dolomites and have found another happy place we will return to time and again. I do love a bit of a scramble - I did outdoor Ed as part of my degree and loved getting away on the school outdoor ed residential every year!! We are looking at different areas to ski when we get our slightly bigger van that is more self sufficient with onboard facilities. Glad you are enjoying our videos 😊

    En-route from Scotland to the Dolomites right now in our wee microcamper. Should be there in a couple of days. Hoping to get some Via Ferrata done if the weather allows. If you haven't tried it, you should! 🧗😁 Looking forward to watching your adventures.

      Have a great trip - I hope the weather holds up for you. We haven’t done any via Ferratas yet but it is something we want to have a go at. I did a lot of indoor climbing at uni and as a teacher on residentials so know I would enjoy it!

    The more of your videos I watch, the more I'm convinced that you have stolen my 'to-do list'! 😉The Dolomites looked spectacular - I just hope that I make it there one day to experience it for myself.

      I am sure you will get to some of these places one day - lots of little mountain B and B’s in the area for hikers and refuge huts. Richard fancies a multi day hike from hut to hut in the Dolomites 🥾🏔️ our to do list just gets longer because we only really scratch the surface in each place!

    Great to see you exploring that side of the dolomites. We’ve only been on the western side for skiing around Selva - fantastic walks there in summer too - maybe you’d like the Seceda ridge area? I definitely think it was worth paying for that overnight park up in the mountain - just epic 🥰 We’ll hopefully try that in the Autumn. 😊

      It was absolutely stunning in the Tre Cime with the huge rock towers everywhere. We loved the hiking there. We moved across to the Plose Ski area for a couple of days hiking and a visit to Lag di Braies next which were both also very beautiful. We will definitely return to the Dolomites as there is still so much to explore 🚐 ⛰️ 🥾

    Loved the video guys. The drive over the passes from Slovenia into Italy looked amazing and the walk around the Tre Cime looked spectacular. You don’t get to park up in locations like that very often so we would say it’s definitely worth the money. Looking forward to the next video. Keep safe. Irvine & Karen.

      They were real google specials that took us over the Slovenian mountain passes but so pretty. The Italian border that was the middle of a river!

    Amazing, we went to the Dolomites in 1993 on a Headwater guided holiday, it was wonderful, but I would love to go back and follow in your footsteps in our VW campervan. We would pay the cost of parking and camping for 24 hours as one of life's experiences. Well done ( I would have worn boots and taken a walking pole). ❤️🇮🇹🚐 xxx

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому

      Hi Janet- that's what we figured about the parking but the charges increase over the last 12 months felt a little unfair. The trails were pretty good up there and we like to stay out of boots in summer conditions- just our preference.
      We are pretty sure you would love a return visit.
      Have a great week👍

    Many thanks for the detailed explanation and updated tips on camping in Tre Cime. Planning to go there myself with a VW Campervan now in July and was wondering at what time did you start going up to the Hut? I'm asking because of the same concern you had for the parking.

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому

      Hi Hristiyan, we joined the queue at about 1500 and got up there about 1600. We would have waited later for the traffic to clear a bit, but we had just done a mega-walk so had no energy to do anything else. We quite enjoyed sitting in air-con for a while to cool down😂 I guess in July the crowds will be getting a bit bigger.
      Once you are up there and parked up- there is lots of places to potter to...knowing you have got a parking place secured for the night.
      I hope this helps? 👍

    Great video - thank you. Can you elaborate a little on Google ‘special’ route please? Is this an additional function in Maps?

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому +1

      A "google special" is our affectionate name for a route from Google Map that seems completely insane. We had a number of them in our adventure earlier in the year to Devon where some of the roads it tried to send us down could hardly be classed as roads! Another example was when it sends us up a junction on the motorway, only to then send us in the opposite direction to retrace our steps.
      It's just when we perceive a glitch in the AI. Ironically the mountain passes that it sent us over on this trip were glitches in the right way...they were stunning and yet passable without too much stress.
      Sorry to cause any confusion! Wouldn't it be great if there was a google special on maps that would seek out crazy routes😂
