    Those showers are crazy nice! Puts the one we had during our recent camping week in Portugal to shame. At least I'd give it a 5 for water pressure! 😂 Your trip was filled with beautiful scenery and I will definitely revisit the videos for more recommendations and inspiration.

      The showers at camping Tirol were like being in a posh hotel!! We have loved this road trip and I think we have been really lucky with the weather . We always seemed to be on the fringes of the rain and could get out - there has been some horrendous flooding in valleys not too far from where we have stayed! The mountains are definitely our happy place

    Brought back menories of a childhood caravanning holiday to St Johnann. Really enjoyed this video and love your 'Rate the shower' feature. When we eventually get a campervan, I know that I will look back at your videos for recommendations!! Jackie, which trail shoes do you wear? They always look good with whatever you are wearing. I would enjoy a video on what clothes you took for a 6 week tour. Thank you for sharing your adventures. I really look forward to your videos. Safe journey home 😊

      Austria is a great country to visit - it felt very calm and relaxing and the meadows were so pretty. My shoes are Nike trail running shoes as they have great treads on them for grip but are very light weight and my feet don't get over warm. I do have some proper summer walking shoes that are more supportive if I think we need them (possibly should have had them on in the snow in the Dolomites) I am not sure what model they are as they were in the clearance section of the Nike outlet store. Thanks for watching x

    I’ve been looking forward to this one all week and it didn’t disappoint. Beautiful country. Brought back so many memories. We went for Christmas once when I was young and it was magical, with a sleigh ride up into the mountains to a little hut for a traditional Austrian evening. Amazing country and so clean ( I hope it still is as clean)

      It was lovely and clean which we really noticed - it felt really open, green and fresh when in the valley. We have not skied in Austria before but it is on our list when we get our new van and can do bit of a ski safari using the aires and campsites.

      It is a real pretty country - everything felt clean and fresh. We liked the wide valleys with the wild flower meadows as much as the hiking to higher trails. We only touched on a small area so will return. The campsite looked fab as a winter ski base for a few days 🚐

    Stunning views in this trip! Bravo for making it up that 10 km incline to the cross building (would love to know the story behind it). Finally - bathrooms can give me nightmares so LOVE your rate my facilities segment Richard! 😂

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому

      It was quite some climb up to the cross - it is seemingly a large building that has 4 meeting rooms at the top and viewing platforms and a religious contemplation area. It was pretty impressive but about €20 each to enter so we had a good look around the outside and scooted back down the mountain. We have certainly come across the range of facilities in our 6 years of van life - some at 0/50 and a few up near the 50/50 - particularly in Switzerland.
      Austria was lovely - it felt clean, fresh and calm after the business of some of the Dolomite tourist spots

Safe journey home, Jackie, Richard and Nelson 🚐😍 xx

      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому +1

      🤣 Richards a real gentleman! I do carry my own pack in the winter when I have more than a bottle of water 😊 Austia was lovely - If we are honest we have no idea what we ordered in the mountain hut as the menu was only on a chalk board and the staff didn't particularly speak English to help! They did do an amazing local pancake bits dish with an apple puree sauce that I wished we could order but it was cash only and we didnt have enough left 🥲
      We are safely ensconced back in the Yorkshire Dales (in the rain)

    Amazing scenery, we went to Austria on a walking holiday, we didn't have the camper then, so we took a flight there and stayed in hotels, we also visited King Ludwigs Castle, inspired by Julia Bradbury doing a walk there on one of her programs, we will be back to Austria, this time in the camper, doing Croatia, Slovenia, and Dolamites first, basically following your journey which will help us to choose the right area. Thank you so much, look forward to last vlog in Austria 😊

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому

      Thanks Christine- it has been quite a trip! It seems we have simply added more things to our bucket list than we have actually cleared in this trip😂 You will love your upcoming adventure in the van- it affords you so much flexibility- stopping when you wish and moving on when ready. Please be wary of the peak season costs of Croatia and Slovenia- we found it quite challenging in off-season. ACSI cards become valid again from the end of August in most places👍
      Have a great trip.

      Hi thanks for watching - the Austrian Alps are absolutely stunning. It felt so clean and peaceful and the wild flower meadows were so pretty.
      The hiking shoes I wore for most of the holiday are actually a pair of Nike Terra Kiger trail running shoes which I like because they are light weight, breathable and have a really good grip like my hiking shoes. I also like them because I got them from an outlet store for about £30! I would recommend them or any trail running shoes that have a good grip. But for longer hikes and if the paths are too rugged and rocky there is little support for your ankles.

      🤣 unfortunately for rate my shower - the only way is down!! The Austrian and Swiss facilities are just so immaculate and set up for year round camping that it is hard to compete! It will be interesting to see how the Scottish campsites compare next week. Yes we would definitely go back to Austria - we only did a small area around innsbruck and I believe it is even more stunning the further east. We visited Zell am Zee a few years ago which was also fab 🚐😊

    Just letting you know you’ve inspired us to visit a few of the locations you’ve recommended & have just booked the Shuttle for early September,.
    Could you please tell us where you stayed the night before leaving the UK?
    We’ve booked an early Shuttle & Folkstone is a 5hr drive for us. TIA

      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому +1

      Ah thank you -that's so lovely to hear. There are so many wonderful places out there - both in the UK and Europe.
      We sailed from Dover so stayed at the Maison Deu carpark behind the police station in the town centre. We have stayed at the Drum Inn pub before now which might be more suitable for the tunnel? Have a look on the Park 4 Night App and search 4 sites or maybe ask for suggestions on the European motorhoming group on face book.
      Hope you have a great time 🚐

    Hi, Any idea what van you are considering next? Despite advice from yourselves a while back, still thinking a pop top vw may be a step too small for us at 61 and 65. Really undecided and a bit frustrated about lack of layout that we think may suit us. Don't think we have the resources to have one built, unfortunately. Any advice gratefully accepted. Thanks. X😊

    • @earlyretirementwanderlust
      @earlyretirementwanderlust  Місяць тому +1

      Hi - we still have at least 18 months before we swap vans but we are pretty much decided on a 5.48m Fiat Ducato van conversion of some sort. We want a fixed bed in the back that will give us more garage space but it will have less lounge space than the vans with bench seats that covert to a bed. We have seen seen 2 companies that do a pop top version of the Ducato so will have options of where to sleep, store stuff and put Grandkids if we ever have any! The vans also have a small shower/toilet cubicle which will help us when using the European Aires and British CL sites.
      Both have websites - 'sunlight' and 'dreamer' are the 2 companies.
      Hope this helps a little - we still want a small van that we can use as a daily drive and get to all the hidden places that we love with no worries.
