    I bought your engine and final drive oil for my first 6000-mile change, watched your videos, and did the job. Everything worked out well. Thanks. Tara

    Where did the 180ml value come from? I couldn't find it in the Rider manual. Thanks!

      Directly from the dealer. Call your local dealer and ask them for confirmation.

    Great videos Kurt. These videos and the service kits you sell really make it easy for a guy (or gal) to keep their bike serviced and save money. I just finished a full 12K mile service on my GSA in about an hour and 1/2 and saved a ton of money. One question; Do you think it matters if the bike and therefore the gear oil warmed up to get all the old gear oil out, or is it ok to perform this service on a cold bike?

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback. A best practice is to warm the engine up a bit to help drain all the oil. The gear oil is not very viscous so it’s not necessary. I’m glad to hear you saved a bunch of $$!

    How to reset the service reminder? Easy way to do it? Thanks.

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  12 днів тому

      You need a diagnostic tool to reset the service reminder. Look at the GS-911 or Motoscan. I use the GS-911.

    Is it necessary to torque the drain plug to 20 Nm knowing it is in oil? Would a lower torque ( 15 Nm ) be ok ?
    On the label of the oil container, BMW advises us to use the oil in the 4 years following the production date. Is that important? Thank you sir, Marc Quebec Canada 🇨🇦😉🏍

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  7 місяців тому

      The drain plug torque spec is 42 Nm. I suggest using the factory recommendation. Tell me more about what you mean by use the oil for 4 years? I’ve not heard that before.

    What size crush washer did you use for the T45 drain bolt?
    M12 for the 6mm hex filler bolt.
    M20 for the oil drain plug.

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  Рік тому

      All the crush rings and o-rings come with an oil change kit or 12k maintenance kit. Yes, the oil drain plug is M20, the final drive fill is M12 (copper) and the final drive drain is M11 o-ring (11.2mm x 1.8mm). Check out pacmototours.com/store.

      @@PacMoto do you know if a 2020 R1250R use the same crush washers and o-rings as the 1250 gs? Its time for me attempt this on my own but need to get the washers.

    • @PacMoto

      Yes, exactly the same. You can help support this channel buy by purchasing your 12k service kit from me here: www.pacmototours.com/store/p/r1250-lc12k-service-oil-amp-filter-spark-plugs-air-filter-final-drive

    Thanks a lot for the video, well done, well explained and GREAT TIPS provided.
    Do you have a video for the oil change for the same bike?
    Appreciated it.

    180mL is just not a lot of oil. It is constantly being sheared. It IS very important to keep after it.
    On my 2012 R1200R, I change no later than 10k miles. At that mileage, the 75W-90 Mobil1 that I use is dark green. If you go much past that, it will turn black.
    I found Mobil1 maintains its color much, much longer than the verrry expensive Castrol 75W-90 sold at the Beemer dealer. (Or, they sold at the time)

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  Рік тому +1

      The specification for the 1250 is 70w80 GL-5 gear oil. The 75w90 is for the water cooled R1200. I replace the gear oil with each oil change.

      Ugh. My local BMW dealer gave me the 75W-90. My bike is a 2021 R1250GS. I guess I'll have to return the oil. Glad I hadn't changed it yet. Thanks

      What did you use to measure out 180ml? The BMW bottle is 7oz./ 207ml.

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  9 місяців тому +1

      @awakeadventurer9198 Yep, technically that’s the final drive oil for the water-cooled R1200 not the R1250. I’d be curious what the dealer says….

    Would this be the same oil type for a 2022 1250RS? I might have ordered the wrong axle oil.

      Yes, same gear oil for the 1250s.

    Simple enough. I need to finally get a torque wrench. Can you give torque settings in ft lbs also?

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  Рік тому +1

      You need one that goes from 8Nm to 60Nm.

    • @AndrewMurray-w9i
      @AndrewMurray-w9i 3 місяці тому +1

      Just multiply NM x .73. Example; 10nm x .73 = 7.3ft lbs. the drain plugs call for 20nm so that's easy. 14.6ft lbs.

    Dumb question. 2023 R1250RS has a separate trans oil from engine oil ?

    • @PacMoto
      @PacMoto  Рік тому +1

      If you mean the final drive oil, yes. It’s 75w90 for the R1200 and 70w80 for the R1250. Both rated GL-5.

    • @alangolightly9850
      @alangolightly9850 Рік тому

      I guess since it's a wet clutch you just have engine oil and rear end. I used mopar 70w-80 gear oil. About 180ml or 6 ounces. It was black. Used Castrol power one 5w40 engine oil. Was pretty clean at 600 miles. Thanks

    • @kurtmiller
      @kurtmiller Рік тому +1

      @@alangolightly9850 Good job! I’ve now switched oil from Castrol to Motul since it matches the specifications from the BMW Advantec oil, specifically JASO MA2 and API SN (the Castrol is API SL).
