This is exactly what my 68 F100 is doing, I swapped one of those chinese HEI disty's in it and it ran great for a year or so, but now doing the same exact thing, fire up but die after a few seconds.I suspected the ICM, this confirms it. Off to the parts store I go!
You need to watch out for the hardened steel gears on these cheap distributors! They are way to hard and will shred the gears on the cam, read the amazon reviews

Would it start an run after it cooled down or just went out and no start untill fixed?
It would start up and run after it cooled down but then randomly fail after a block or two of driving.
