How a Fully Working Eberspacher D1LC Should Work from www.Eberspachers.com

  • This is another example of what a very good working Eberspacher D1LC should run like.
These are still very popular heaters and are well known for delivering more heat than the later D2's, even though they a slightly lower rated.
The D2's have a high air volume throughput but in a smaller environment, such as a HGV cab or small motor home. The slightly higher kwh is not noticed.
When buying one of these or any other diesel heater, you really need to know how it runs.
So, ask your seller why it is for sale and does it smoke or pop at all?
The unit we have shown here has been used a few times for short run ECU testings. As a result, the glow plug screen builds up carbon more quickly and fuel is not burnt as well.
After a new screen is fitted the heater burns off those deposits in the combustion chamber and as can be seen, returns to a clean, none smoking unit once warmed up.
A tiny bit of smoke on start can also be normal for other reasons, but should dissapear within a few seconds. Continued smoke will be of concern as well as a popping sound from the exhaust. Sometimes it may just be the glow plug screen and requires a decoke that may not be as easy as it sounds!
Heaters that have not been serviced for years, often have seized screws that hold the flame tube in place. Their heads strip very easily and leave you with a big problem that can take hours to get over even if they don't damage the casing threads.
A replacement heat exchanger and burner costs nearly £300 new! So take care when buying a second hand heater.
