Hay Shane thanks for the video!
I really believe a video on the googleskillshop certificates would be very helpful, what do you think?
College aren't that bad, they teach you current skills as well. Universities (non colleges universities) might be more for professional, you might not get a job right away but I believe it could keep you on track for longer. Because you know the fundimential skills and can apply it to a lot of things. And if you want to do a research position you definitely need at least a undergraduate degree.
@@emory6966 In my country (Canada) it is very very cheap to go to university, so money is def not an issue here. Time is indeed an important thing to consider, you are right. I did 2yr. university courses in my highschool and then I think 2 yr for a BSc is definitely worth it. But I think I am going to do a PhD anyway. I am not saying he is wrong, but i think he is definitely bias because of the pomo link
Hi Shane, I just started the Google Data Analytics course and you mentioned how it can be added to your linkedin profile whilst you are still working on it. Can you explain how that can be done?
Any more offers like this one? It says it's no longer valid😢
I'm currently on course 4 of the Google Data Analytics certificate, and I feel hopeful that 2023 will be the year I finally get a good job!😃
Me too I loving these courses
I believe in you!
Keep going! definitely recommend doing the IBM Data Science Course after so it pretty much cements the skills and grows from it.
I am doing google ads search course I have done 3 courses of it kindly inform me how to get my certificate
Same here! We got this!!
I finished the Google Data Analytics cert on February 28, 2022. I didn't know any data analytics before that, and I was in a health-focused master's program but I wanted tech skills to supplement what I was learning in school. The class gave me a good intro to data analytics.
I then took a data analytics course through my master's program where I did a bunch of Excel projects focused on healthcare data and added them to my portfolio. Then, I had to do a Power BI dashboard for another class in the master's program and added that to my portfolio. Finally, I took extra SQL classes but then realized that a certain kind of SQL platform is used most in healthcare, so then I specialized in that software.
In January 2023, I had 5 data analyst interviews and just landed a job at a health insurance company, and the job pays $84,000 a year. I still haven't completed my master's degree, but I think the combination of the data skills and being in the master's program helped me get the job. This is what I realized helped me most on this journey:
1. Take extra classes to supplement the Google class - ex. Excel courses, SQL courses
2. Specialize in a certain SQL platform if you want a job using SQL
3. Have portfolio projects that showcase your Excel skills, data viz skills, and SQL skills
4. Focus on getting very good at SQL because it's the most important data analysis skill. The Excel skills and data viz skills are still a good foundation for data analytics so don't completely neglect them but definitely focus on getting very good with SQL.
Congratz and thank you for sharing your experience!
Hi, what SQL platform was commonly used in healthcare? I am going a similar route
Hi, I was debating some other courses that range widely, 2,000 to 16,000. That include R, Python, SQL, Power BI. I'm leaning towards this one and in addition to taking a live excel bootcamp. I hear the same thing about SQL all the time especially Luke Barousse. Did you take a stand alone course on SQL?
@@DasmineLovesSoftball Microsoft SQL Server - live it, love it, learn it and best of luck
@@ericcarson342 Hi Eric. Please don't pay that much to learn any of those skills. You can learn everything you need on Coursera and just need to get good at finding good data sets relevant to your domain of interest to put those skills into practice. A lot of Coursera courses have guided projects too for R, Python, Tableau, Excel, and Power BI. To learn SQL using a specific kind of database rather than just learning general SQL, use Linked In Learning courses. Unfortunately, Coursera only teaches general SQL. Best of luck and please don't pay that much money.
Good stuff! I did 1 course in 2020.. tech support fundamentals and stopped after that. At the time I wasn't sure if the certs were worth doing. It was difficult for me to stay interested and committed to the course due to being full time in college but I did like the structure of the cert course and website. I went ahead and stayed focused on my community college courses but I just wrapped up my associates degree and think I might dip back into those cert courses to see how they are without the stress of college courses breathing down my neck.
A really good generation to be born in with guys like Shane helping out confused fellas like me. Cheers man!
These courses are great. I've completed Google data analytics, ibm data science, imb data analyst and currently finishing up Google project management. They usually take a month and a half for me. They work great, as a college student learning skills and such. In addition for them I've gotten 25hrs of college credit helping me to be on pace to finish a year early. I highly recommend them to anybody
Excellent!

I was having my doubts with this certificate but now am convinced. I'll be 30 this week with no degree at all (only high school) and I've been a cook for years. I decided that I don't want to be standing 8hrs, 6 days a week. So, I decided to learn a new skill. Am not sure which certificate I'll take but am sure am taking one. Wish me the best. Thanks so much for this video.
Same for me mate, im sick tired of having to work 5 to 6 days week and not could enjoy time with my family and my life, i will try these courses too
I also want to add a certificat and I looked wich one to choose and I made the top 3 I could study the first one is IT CERTIFICAT, DATA ANALYST and CYBERSECURITY, I hope I helped you a little 😁

Hey bro stop worrying on what you could've done and just focus on what you will do.
I came to this place to see public opinions about this course. I completed the course, and 4 months after I was contacted to teach this course. After 1 year I still enjoy teaching it in Community Colleges.
Hi Alex, do you have an opinion on the value these courses can offer women in their 50's who want a career change? I keep seeing discouraging articles about companies not hiring older people in favor of college grads despite anti discrimination laws. Thanks.
Wait what? You just did this course and then just like that you ended up becoming a college professor???!!

Well done . Google is a big name.
As long as they keep the courses updated on Coursera, I could see them being beneficial, but I am highly skeptical about the Google IT cert. Last time I checked, it didn’t have a date later than 2020. I’m sure the learning is amazing, but a lot of employers don’t even look at this cert unless they’re ones linked with coursera.
I also laughed at the review that said they didn’t even care about the core2 A+ certification. A lot of companies make their employees renew their most current certification, and if you don’t renew it you can technically be let go from your job. At the same time, many employers, use job application filters. If you don’t have a certain CompTIA certification, they won’t even look at your résumé. I would recommend only take the information from this video as a grain of salt. There are other UA-cam videos, claiming their coursera certification alone was not the reason they got hired alone. More like an add-on of another solid credential.
Now I’m not commenting to discourage people, but there is no easy way of going about it.
-Certs open the door.
-Skills/Personality get you hired.
-Performance of said skills will determine if you do or don’t get fired.
Literally here on my lunch from my subpar healthcare job. Once I get home I’m signing up and taking the chance at this. Love the info you said on here, wish me luck y’all ✌🏾

I’m thinking of cyber security / SQL advancement too. Hopefully it’s going to be good
To go back to the beginning of the video, I think a lot of universities in America are still teaching the ethics and theories of these majors and studies. And not creating practical experiences and workshops that can be used in future situations or resumes.
I got my degree and debating to get a Master's because my first degree was not properly set up to give their students success after graduating.
I will disagree as I didn't learn data analysis in college as much as I did with The Google Data Analytics certificate. I was jack of all trades and master of none in college. These certificate courses enable you to focus on a particular area and specialize it. The course of data analytics is superbly crafted, where you really are in a position to get an entry level job and grow from there. In short, the certificate will give you the wings and the platform and then it is up to you to excel from there. Keep making projects and adding to your portfolio. Good luck!
Appreciate your insight!
What are you disagreeing with? Sounds like you think it is worth it.

Thank you for the video Shane!
Good video and I do believe the Google certificates do help a lot of people get jobs. One caveat, however, is that at least in my experience they will not help an older person (say, 50+s plus) overcome the age discrimination that is rampant in today's job market. I am 58 and have been unemployed for over a year after my company went Chapter 11 and laid off over half of its workforce. I tried for 6 months without success to get another job and then, on someone's advice, took a Google course in a branch of data analytics very closely related to my old job. Result? I have had a number of positive comments in interviews about the Google certificates (both about the content of the courses and about the initiative it showed I was taking), but I still got hammered on questions related to my age (even though its illegal for them to do so). I guess my point is that, again, I believe these and other online courses are definitely worth taking for a lot of people but if you think they may help you overcome discrimination in hiring (particularly age discrimination, which is one of the most prevalent), then think again because it will not be a silver bullet for that particular barrier.
Generally a good and helpful video but still skeptical since the UA-camr is a paid affiliate

I just finished GPM myself, 2 weeks ago. It was a very interactive course and very common sense based.
Just finished the Digital Marketing & ecommerce and it was comprehensive compared to my recent degree in same subject. Even better, I was able to take most of it through my local library system. Highly recommend if a person is changing careers.
The Digital marketing and project management are the certs I'm interested in
Is that kinda like copywriting, or copywriting involved? I notice they have email marketing in there.
@@TheChurchIsLikenUntoTheMoon I do some copywriting and no, they don't discuss content for emails or social media much. The email module has some things related to the basics like writing emails that get to the point and breaking down groups to email but none of the psychological stuff that goes into getting recipients to open emails.
That’s the course I was planning on taking does it pay well?
@@fall3n834 So far, for me, no. Here are a couple of specific reasons, along with a few general reasons.
I need to work remotely and a lot of jobs I qualify for want a bachelor's degree.
I prefer the creative side over the analytical part of marketing.
While some in-person positions don't care about a bachelor's, they prefer at least 2 yrs. experience on average. A few will consider an internship (I've done this).
Also, a lot of companies (see Indeed) pay less than $20/hour. And they still want a bachelor's or higher.
If you're doing both analytical and creative stuff, the position (no degree) should pay at least $30/hour because if the marketing strategy is executed correctly, you're making the company money.
Most people I've talked to in a similar position (I have two Associates in Business and Social Media) end up freelancing to get their just pay.
I went to college to get an accounting degree. I realized in intermediate acct 2 just how much I despised it. Finished anyway just for the degree since I was mostly there. Took 1.5 years to get my first entry lvl position (I live in a poor, backwoods state), for the huge sum of 9.50/hr in 2016. I don't know if I would prefer any of the certifications more, but the small time/cash investment is the most appealing thing about them. If it ends up being a dead end, you haven't thrown away 4+ years of your life and 40ish thousand dollars.
Very encouraging, thank you!!
This is great 🎉 I’ve been wanting to get a Data Analytics Certificate and Maybe the BookKeeping Certificate as well.
I am a senior computer information systems student, during three months, before, during and after the first semester, I did all the Google Career certificates, these programs has not only helped to develop skills related to tech and communication, but gave me massive awareness on how big and beautiful the job market and what potential the individuals can be when choosing the right set of skills in the particular fields. It also helped me during the COOP Training, and enhanced my learning in the courses offered by my college.
I highly recommended anyone to not only take these courses, but also learn other courses to be aware and knowledgeable on the other fields to be better.
Side note: I am looking forward for Google to create Software Engineer/Web development and Cybersecurity and other certificate programs, I am so engaged on the delivery and style of teaching on their courses.
Another Side note: If I recall correctly, Coursera discount will end by 31 January, will update this comment if anything changes.
Woah foreal? I was thinking of doing the certificates I need, then if the job market doesn’t care for me, just get an associates degree to buff up my resume. Coming from agriculture I have no idea what’s going on
@@SolomonNatureLife well hello there, depending on the country you live in. Most companies don't want certificate, they want actual experience and knowledge and skill on the matter they are in. In some cases like The IT industry for example, most companies want someone with IT cert with understanding with IT Concept and problem solving.
Nice to hear.
Looks like Google were actively listening and have released a cybersecurity certificate now.
I’m currently doing that one.
Currently in the process of doing the it support professional cert so I can have credits going into wgu and also qualify for the software dev program. I have pretty much no previous tech experience other than my intro to tech class I'm college and me learning basic PC components for when I was looking for a gaming PC. I started the it cert three days ago and I'm on the third module which I basically halfway done. It's not easy and there's a lot of fluff but if you take notes there's a ton of valuable info in here alone that I think might be able to get you into a entry level it job in my opinion. I wish I knew of coursera ahead of time. If so I would've taken Metas front and back end dev certs so I could have some knowledge before going into coding.
Thank you for the video Shane

Good to hear your view, as I asked about these certs on Quora, and some supposed tech execs said they would never hire someone based on them. I hope they're wrong and you're right! College is a massive risk...who knows if you'll get a job that earns enough to pay off student loans. Also, you get to try out so many different paths to find what you really love.

I looked at the links he posted and started to look into the Intuit academy Bookkeeping certificate. It is not a "Google career" certificate, but it is on coursera. I had some questions, so I reached out through the contact us link. The answers were vague and incomplete. I was told to go to the discussion forum. I followed the instructions and did not find it, but I did see a list of questions from panicked students stating that there were technical issues that would cause them to lose all of their work and not complete the course or it kept telling them to pay more. I then went to the Better Business Bureau. They have a score of "F" and they are not BBB accredited. Numerous people posted that the website has overcharged them for subscriptions they don't have. In addition to this, I see the Intuit academy certificates are not accredited by any educational commission. So there's no way of knowing if this certificate would be accepted anywhere besides Intuit. It looked good to start with but now I am not feeling good about it.
2-QUESTIONS:
Q-1:
If one signs up for CourseraPlus, one has access to all of the courses in their list for the calendar year??
.... in other words, one pays Coursera and that's it (per the time period, etc., etc.) $200 covers the year, and one may pick off as many or as few courses as one wishes.
IMHO: That's a REALLY good deal if one were to do, say, the Google-ITSupport only ... $200 barely covers one college textbook these days.
Q-2:
Does the Google-ITSupport course include Virtual Practice Labs? The description suggests that it does.

I think a lot of the info can be found free on UA-cam, but I like that it's all laid out with readings, assignments, and even vocabulary.
Hey any update?
@@sdestiny414 well I ran into some personal and financial issues so I had to stop the program. However, I'm hoping to pick it back up this weekend. I'm not sure how much I'll actually learn from this compared to some other programs I was using, but every little bit helps I suppose
I have a college degree in pastoral ministry and recently changed in my expression. Im Catholic now. So, it is hard to figure out how to use my degree. Just today, I started learning about cyber security and am already ahead of schedule for my certificate. 6 months to complete all courses? I'm going for 16 days as I have more free time. Let's get it, fellas!!
Really nice demonstration.
However, since I am not based on a first world country I was wondering if you could give ma an idea of job prospect of data analytics certificates as a Freelancer like in Upwork, Fiver etc?
thanks.
May be this is completely irrelevant, but when my friend and i were in process of Canadian student visa, my profile was too weak since I had irrelevant background studies and job. I wanted to do cybersecurity post graduation diploma. I took Google certificate, honestly it gave so much weightage on my file. I got acceptance, unfortunately my friend didn’t make it since he didn’t have any . Even just name google on certificate has so much value. All the best whoever utilizing this.
Yeah it really is a cheatcode right now
They are definitely worth it my opinion. I received 33 college credits by completing 3 of these certificates. I used them a 6 upper level credits and 27 lower level credits to Excelsior University, a regionally accredited institution. The price of these 33 credits taken through Coursera was about $250-300.
Hey bro which 3 of the certifications did you finish? And what is the process for transfer? And which major did you work on at Excelsior?
yeah this is an underrated point, you gain college credit for accredited colleges.
Bro expecting a reply from you. Which major should I work on for getting those 33 credits ?
@@zahidsumon2809 at Excelsior University I did the BS in Liberal Arts because it accepted a ton of my military credits and those Google Certificates
how many credits did you get from the google pmp
Great Video.
Hello Shane, I have a strange question for you. I have to change careers and I am in my mid 50's and close to retirement, also I have signed up for Coursera. I am looking into the Data Analysis field, but I am wondering if I am trying to learn too much for a short amount of time I have left. Do you think this is a good idea, or is there another Google Cert. I should look into for 4-7 years I might have left ?
Hi! Hope my comment is helpful. I think that, no matter what age you are, if you love whichever career you choose, you will succeed. Make sure you love it, that's an important key. GOOD LUCK!!
Great video.
Be cautious when receiving unsolicited messages from recruiters, as they may be scammers.
Am in course 3 of 7 courses in Google UX Design professional certificate and am happy about the decision. I am architect and I want to switch to IT
Thanks for the review. I’ve been wondering if google certs are actually worth it
I'm just curious if you can finish any of them by the end of the 7 day trial.... ?
You just described the situation im at right now. I´ve just finished a Licenciate degree (Similar to bachelor´s) in Clinical psychology and i find impossible to take any advantage of it. I just feel like i wasted so much time i could have used to do something else.
And just think about all that student loan debt
just did their foundations of cybersecurity in 3 hours - been in the industry for about a year now so it was all a breeze. Not super helfpful and very surface level however for someone looking to get started definitely an ok first step. nice to get a little cert compared to the hours spent beating myself up over not figuring out a THM flag or something lol
I'd say it's worth the time and tiny cost but definitely too surface level for a serious technical role.
There are local government jobs that do list these so I think when you add it to a CompTIA trifecta with no job experience it should help get a foot in the door. I'm working on a career change and adding these to my volunteer resume.
1989 was also the year of the stone roses debut album. what a whiff
I'm currently on course 4 of Google IT Support. These courses are great. But I will suggest one thing that doesn't study this course just to get a certificate but study to understand.
Did you find the second cert in the course the most difficult?
@@Nina-jc3be Yes, "The bits and bytes of computer " Right?
@@usman6323 that's the one.
@@Nina-jc3be Yeah, I've completed it.
@@usman6323just finished it and I find subnetting still a bit troubling
What is the success rate for older students wanting a career change? Most of the reviews shown were either college age or people who already had a significant background. I heard Data Analytics is only good for people who already have Marketing experience.
You do have older adults in college more than ever before, college age doesn't matter.
Shane! Can u please tell some good Google Certificates for medical related students. I am doing BSN.
Shane, so what is the difference between Coursera and going it on your own with Google Skillshop or say Seth's course?
I want to do some of these but i have no degree and when i look up jobs , qualifications for entry level are still asking for a degree.
my background is just in the restaurant. i've been going back and forth with this just because ive already been 3months without a job because i want to just do something more. im still not sure if this will land me a job but what about people that have no college diploma ??
It’s totally awesome! I have 4 Google Certificates from Google. It went smooth sailing for me. That was a great choice/ option for me.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good to hear! How long did it take you to complete each course? Have you had any recruiters reach out?
we need an update girly :) !!! did u go to college as well and did it help you get an jobs
I'm on week 3 of the Project Management Capstone. I would love to find a remote job as I'm in Thailand attending Bangkok University International
I just watched your video, I'm 19 years old, and the Google certs had popped up as an ad and grabbed my attention. As of right now I'm working a minimum wage job and it is barely making ends meet for myself. I thought to myself that being certified in something and being able to do something professionally can help me get on my own feet for myself. As of right now, I'm working on my Associate's degree in business Admin, however, I was looking into the Project Management Certification. I would say I have the communication skills, and people skills down due to a few jobs I had in the past, would you recommend going for this and seeing where it would take me?
take the shot, you have nothing to lose at 19 but alot to gain. I'm 32 and been hesitant with college for IT for YEARS. I just found out about the IT Cert and this.
What cert does everyone suggest to start out as a newbie looking to get out of teaching!! Please help!
Thanks!
so just as a simple clarification question,
if I were to sign up for coursara, am i able to complete all the courses in a google cert, for instance, and only have to pay the monthly subscription fee(X per month) and not the individual course fee(X per course) ?
