It is borderline criminal 327 Fed Magnum isn’t more popular. You’re right it is noticeably more blast, but it’s a defensive round. However, you can shoot more prevalent 32 H&R mag and 32 SW long for cheaper, quieter, and have less blast/recoil for practice and plinking in the same revolver. You can also shoot 32 SW short in the gun as well.
Completely agree. Excellent observations
Too bad the guns are expensive, and so is the ammo. Long is 70c last I checked, and magnum $1
Like the 38 is to 357 magnum, 32 H&R Mag is to 327 Fed Mag. That's the ticket.
32 gun in his pocket for fun!~ Leroy brown
Agree 100%. Great revolver as it can fire all the 32 cartridges. I also have the Taurus 327 but it is a handful for the magnum loads. This revolver is just right for the 327 mag.
327 Fed Mag also chambers 32 H&R, 32 S&W Long, 32 S&W Short and even 32 ACP since it’s a semi-rimmed case!
32 ACP should not be used. It’s rim isn’t as thick, and you run the risk of damaging the gun because of pressure problems
@@danielboggan2479 It may not be recommended but in desperation in can be used if necessary. There are dozens of videos showing 32 ACP fired out of 327 Federal Magnum Revolvers.
@@danielboggan2479Hard to see 32 acp damaging a gun made to shoot .357
@@DL-ij7tf yeah, that's weird.
A couple years ago, .327 Fed Mag was very hard to even find online, much less on my dealer's shelf. Happily, that's no longer true today - Life IS good!
Nobody hates you. For me dear dear Hickok45 you are like a relative, a member of my family as for the 99% of your followers I’m sure… it’s a pleasure to watch your videos, for all these years as well as in the future ! Another amusing and interesting video! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
Well put 😊
@austini.5262not sure why, but your comment made me think: most all the gun UA-camrs are laid back and pleasant. Hickock 45 may be the most laid back and pleasant. Quite the opposite of how the anti gunners would have you think
He's identical to my grandpa, talks like him, has all the stories, and loves shooting. My grandpa even had a similar range setup. Love this dude
He’s a traitor born in Kentucky lives in Tennessee 🤣🤣🤣
I carry a 327 Federal Magnum 90% of the time. I'd been using the LCRx, but recently grabbed the same model you have here in an SP101.
I like the versatility of being able to fire everything from HSTs and Gold Dots in 327 Fed Mag, down to 32 Long Wadcutters.
I DO reload ammo for practice and pest control.
Super easy to shoot, and as another commenter said, it really IS criminally underrated
Small frame. Lots of power. Six rounds. Love it.
I have two Ruger .327 ‘s….will be looking for the Henry Carbine soon. It is a very fast round, and the blast is not an issue to me, as I always wear good ear protection. The 3” barrel is perfect to me….the other I have is the single seven, 5.5” barrel…..I luv the .327 Federal Magnum……Thank you ! I really enjoy watching….👍🤠
I was an early adopter of 327 federal. The sp101 was a daily carry for a few years. Very versatile chamber and great for reloaders. Able to shoot 32 short, 32 s&w, 32 hr, etc.
I got one of the older ones in 32 H&R. It is a reloaders dream. You can crank right up to whatever level you consider fun. It also has a low profile simple windage adjustable rear sight.
one of my favorite rounds. great revolver
Ruger did a fine job on this wheel gun. It's just a nice package. I had one with a longer barrel and I regret ever selling it. This one is a keeper.
I carry a Taurus 327 as a backup pocket gun. It's a handy piece for that function, and a local gun store has ammunition for it.
It provides a good measure of power without being quite as snappy as a .357 would be, and my sense of it is that as a "get off me" gun, the difference wouldn't matter.
i'm 60 yrs young and never heard of the .327 mag until this video. btw, i have a GP100 and love it.
Well then, you would love the .327 in the GP100, 4" and 6" models available, and they are 7 shot.
The GP100 4" .327 is my wife's (67yrs) favorite revolver.
A great vid. Always good advice and sensible. No silliness. That's why you have so many subscribers.
Bro, the matrix is reading my mind/algorithm. Been looking for a good SP101 .327 vid for about 6 years.
Very cool revolver
Ruger SP 101 .327 Federal Magnum. 💥💥💥
The .327fed is a re-loaders dream, 32's are inherently accurate.
Bought a Blackhawk to develop loads because there was no info available at the time,
and ladder-up from 32H&R data, knowing the Blackhawk would be safe for that.
Berry's used to make a 83gr DEWC and HBWC in .313dia and are so super sweet.
I load the .327 brass down (keeps the cylinder clean) for the smaller grandkids, they love it.
Plenty of load data these days. Too bad Berry's no longer has the WC's for the rest of you folks.
Thanks Glenn/John....... and Slamfire [RIP Gunner]
I have both the SP101 and the LCR in .327 Fed Mag. I enjoy the round.
I got me a 327 back in August and I love that little snubby. Shoots accurately and even though it is a little snappy it runs sweet.
As an owner of multiple handguns in 9mm Makarov there is nothing like going to a gun shop and seeing absolutely nothing on the shelves in what you are looking for.
My buddy inherited 2 Makarov pistols in 2017, went to the store and didn't find anything, went online and got a case of Tula 9mm mak at a very good price, he doesn't shoot them that much so he's set.
I shot 357sig so I'm in the same boat 😅
@@linkbond08That's solvable with a barrel change.
@@zoiders yes I changed it from .40sw to 357sig, I also have the 9x19 barrel, but neither hit as hard as 357sig.
I'm aware it's a self made problem, I willingly painted myself into this corner cuz I wanted moooaarr powaaaa!!
You can make brass for 9 mak out of 9 Luger if you reload.

I did take your advice and take my TN ccw with a HI Point C9.
Now a cf 380 is my outhouse gun.
I have a g19 X, a cz p10 S , a Canik mete sft, g3c w/ 507c.
Something about a HI Point.
Would like to see more .22 and .32 especially. Older revolvers in general. .45 colt. .380, .32 acp.
Like when ppl can shoot.
My 327 harem consists of a SP101, a GP100, a Blackhawk (8 shot), and a Henry carbine. The SP101 is usually carried in a crossdraw holster during road trips.
Don’t know if you can quadruple-like a comment, but I submit such here …
You should carry it in your pocket for fun and put a razor in your shoe

Bout 30 boxes of store bought 327. Yea I love 327 Federal magnum. As The great Hickok 45 says" Life is good ".
I have the 327 in both a 4" ruger sp101, and a henry carbine, I'm a reloader, it's fun to go from mild to wild with this cartridge, 65gr 32 long, 85gr hr, 100 gr 327 federal, plus all the possible lead bullets options, been a very fun exercise in reloading and shooting, I bought this for my wife, too bad she never gets to use it.
The Extra Round that could make the difference in special situations !
Sunny regards to The Beautiful Hills of Tennessee !
Hickock45, Hammerdown ammo is the boss out of the sp101! 127g business at magnum pressure.
.327 Fed Mag is my favorite revolver chambering because it accepts FIVE different cartridges. Also love the .460 S&W and .44 Mag because the compatibility with weaker training/plinking cartridges like .454 Casull or .45 LC and .44 Spl or .44 Russian, respectively.
I own the same revolver and I love it,No problem finding ammo.Greatvideo John.
To address a question made in the vid, When the .327 Fed Mag was introduced, S&W had a revolver in it too. Sure it is no longer offered. I too have a SP 101 in 327 . As part of a trigger job, i was amazed at the size and quantity of the burrs in the lockwork and the trigger guard. I see that a few do say theirs are for personal protection. To those, i would recommend at least ridding of those burrs for lowering risks of malfunction in a high stakes situation. After that, mines a dreamboat...
I got a Taurus 327 instead for the shorter barrel and ability to pocket carry. I prefer to carry .32 H&R Magnum in it.
My EDC is the Taurus 327.
I carry the Taurus 327 as my back up. Great revolver.
got rid of my Taurus 9mm auto because it jammed … not wanting to find any issues even with a revolver ! … glad your Taurus’ works !!
I love the idea of the Taurus 327, especially the optic ready one... But they're kinda heavy for a J frame sized revolver, around 6 oz heavier than an LCR.
I don't mind the weight as much on a 3 or 4 incher like the SP101, I feel like that's more of a range or woods gun.
@@TheOfficialCaseMade I consider the extra weight of the Taurus 327 in my pocket an acceptable tradeoff for the ability to comfortably shoot .327. Yeah, I prefer to shoot .32 Long and .32 H&R, and carry the latter; but I can at least manage shooting .327 in the Taurus, if I wanted to carry it loaded with .327.
By contrast, there is no way I would shoot .327 out of a lightweight snub like the LCR.
Regardless of what I may or may not have under the back seat 😉, SP101 is the ultimate work truck console gun.
I bought a Charter Arms Patriot .327 Federal Magnum with 4" barrel before the SP-101 became available (my wife has a SP-101 in .327). I don't see my gun listed on Charter's any more. A favorite of mine.
Ruger makes the best revolvers. I own the SP 101 and the GP100 and the GP 100 is built so well it has a virtually unlimited service life.
Love being reminded almost every day how great of a shot Grandpa Hickok is
I have an H&R 32 Mag in a Ruger Single Six. New model. It’s nice but in a blue state it’s nearly impossible to get ammo.
I like the .327 Mag. It's a fun round to shoot. It's an extra round in a revolver, it's pretty powerful and the recoil is manageable. Plus you can shoot 32 mag, 32 S&W Long, and 32 S&W short.
I love my 3-inch SP101 357. Don’t have a 327 SP101. Thanks for the good reviews!
My first 327 was a S&W 632 soon to be followed by a Ruger Single 7, then the subject SP101. The 327 is a very versatile chambering since you can also shoot 32s. Plus I have never had a problem finding ammunition. Federal even has an HST defensive round which is my go to carry round.
You always do a great job keep up the good work!
Impressive. Thank you.
thank you Mr Hickok😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
I kind of like it.I've got the GP 427 and I've even done a little bit of investigation.I loaded a 120 grain cast.Bullet handed shot beautifully.I looked at the chamber. There was no bulging or anything so that little gun will take more than what you realize
Most underrated handgun cartridge. I will never sell mine.
I never have a problem finding .327 Federal Magnum ammo. The gun shop I go to, always have them in large quantity. I don't understand why I always hear about a shortage. Plus, it will shoot other .32 caliber rounds.
This was the original caliber for the SP-101 327 although it was a 2" snubie. I still have the original article in Shooting magazine. Its a solid gun not made to be a tack driver!! Even the Vacarro line has it
I purchased a Ruger SP101 327 Federal with the 4.2 inch barrel a few years ago. Love the gun. Solid revolver that’s versatile and packs a punch. The main reason I opted for the 327 over the 357 was the extra round gives you 20% more firepower. The 327 round is a great defensive round but too expensive to use for the range. I have found that the .32 short and .32 long are difficult to find and when you do the price is also high. In short I love the gun, love the ammo, just hate the availability and cost of ammo.
I had a SP101 DAO in .357 Magnum years ago but sold it to a friend. It was one loud pistol.
Now you just need to try the GP100, single seven, and the Blackhawk and you’ll have completed the entirety of the Ruger 327 catalog
SP 101 is a solid hand gun. Good stuff.😊
About time you got the 327 version. 😊
I got the 4 inch barrel and it shoots great and accurate at 50 feet.
This summer might try the 50 yard.
I also reload my 32 longs with magnum load in powder.
I can also make my own 32 mag +p and the revolver handles it all.
Nice!
Estoy fascinado con este calibre. Siempre me gustaron las municiones .32❤
Thanks for showcasing this Hickok !!
That caliber didn't catch on the way I thought it would. Seems like a great idea to me.
In a LCRx it’s a handful 😂
@@usa-rb5fi I've got a .357 LCRx. It's a handful too and I mostly shoot .38 +P in it. .357 mag tends to lose velocity in a snubby. A side by side chronograph of a .327 mag LCRx next to a .357 mag LCRx would be interesting.
2008, the year it was released was the WORST possible time to release a new cartridge in my lifetime. The economy collapsed, so people weren’t buying new guns, and definitely not new guns in exotic chamberings.
Then with the political situation, the ammo industry has to focus on 9mm, 380, 22, 357, 38 special, 40 and 45. Anything else went on the back burner.
Can you review the lipsys S&W 432 ultimate carry in .32 H&R magnum? Seems like a great carry revolver. I carry an LCR with Hornady 80 grain .32 H&R magnum. It’s such a sweet shooter with those rounds.
I just shot mine on Sunday and am having issues with getting the brass out when using 327. Will have to call Ruger and send it back. Disappointed.
Love the round and can have others who are recoil sensitive shoot 32 SW Longs.
I have been watching you for well over a decade, love the channel. Use it all the time for information on particular guns & cartridges and both you and your son have done positive things for the entire shooting community, thank you and god bless!!!
Had the same issue years ago with one in .357 one chamber wasnt reemed properly. Couldnt get a shell in the chamber. Gave my gunsmith 20 bucks n he did it for me. I was very dissapointed. How does that make it past qc?
The ammo used that was sticking, was it American Eagle 100gr? If so, that is common, VERY hot round.
When stainless is drilled it 'chips', leaves nano pitting, versus steel which 'cuts', leaving the cylinder
smoother. You can polish the chambers which will help a lot. I use Flitz, a tight fitting patch or similar, and
a small drill motor. Also over time the nano pitting will fill in with brass and it will be easy to remove the spent brass.
@@jonaozo540 I sent it back to Ruger, as it was a brand new gun. It was designed for the Federal Ammunition when Ruger and Federal got together for the 327. They replaced the cylinder and sent it back me and I just got it, so we will see...thanks for the info on your comment.
@@concerned1313 If you remember .... let me know how the new cylinder performs.
I am a huge .327 fan, since 2010. Wifes' first .327 was a SP101 3.14", wears Trausch grips,
but gets neglected after she got the GP100 4" 7-shot. I pray your SP becomes a favorite for you,
they really are sweet.
I ENJOYED YOUR VEDIOE ON THE RUGER SP 101 327 FEDERAL MAGNUM .
I HAVE RUGER SP 101 357 MAGNUM . JUST LIKE IT AND I LOVE IT THEY ARE GREAT GUNS . 😊😊😊😊
I've been wanting an SP101 3" for years, but never got one because it doesn't have adjustable sights. But seeing you hit everything with those fixed sights kinda got me thinking it would be just fine. I think the only limiting factor would be me rather than the gun.
That is the best hand gun for the money. An a good home defense gun.
I learned about .327 about a decade ago when my father purchased a box by accident. Finally purchased an LCR so I could fire the box! This cartridge is no joke...
I love the sp101 because it’s more like a tool than any other firearm I’ve owned
I have the SP101 and the Taurus 327, both in .327 Federal Magnum. My SP101 came pretty "gritty" from the factory, so I ended up doing an MCarbo springs & shims upgrade, which made a night and day difference... DA pull is now very smooth and around 8.5 lbs, while SA is significantly under 4 lbs. I really like the ability to carry six rounds of "nearly' 357 mag performance in such a tiny package. I also did a Galloway hammer spring & trigger return spring swap on that Taurus 327, and it too is a fantastic little shooter! I only wish that S&W's "327" offering was rated for 327 Federal Magnum, rather than the less powerful 32 H&R Magnum!
I did the m Carbo spring and polish on my 101. Had to remove the m Carbo springs and use the original. Light strikes and bad resets.
You are the best shooting channel
I'm still impressed by how powerful the 327 Fed Mag was in your video with the Henry lever action rifle - that thing was destroying every target you hit with it. I think it is one of the most impressive displays of the power of the 327 Fed Mag. It definitely got me more interested in it.
I reamed SP101 4" barrel 32 Mag to 327 Federal as soon as 327 was produced. It shoots both very well. I have a 3"_ er as well.
Have a Taurus ♉ 327 magnum since 2014, stainless 3"ported barrel, excellent revolver,, and a back up to my 357 magnum revolver , don't have any problems finding ammo for it , but my favorite is gold Dot 100 and 115 grain JHP, but I think they have stopped making the 115 grain, but still can get 100 and 85 grain JHP and fmj
They have some 127 grain carbine,327 magnum ammo at my local gun store, have not seen any tests with them in a revolver, but I will get a couple of boxes ☑️ to keep on hand
Also want to add,i have a pocket holster and Carry it that way sometimes but also carry it left side cross draw in addition to my Glock 33 gen3 357 SIG or my G2C 40
I was a die hard 38 special wheel gun, until my hands went. I can shoot the 38 in heavier revolvers like the SP101 or GP100, and even some WCs in the 357 version of the LCR (but not for many rounds on the LCR).
The 327FM was the answer, but just because it’s takes the 32H&R. I have to say it has gotten me back into shooting again.
I do wish they dropped a few ounces in the SP101 and make it in 32H&R again.
I love the 327 Fed Mag!
I've had one for some time, my wife likes the 32 HR loads. Great gun and I've seen a fair amount of ammo but i reload everything. Nice woods carry gun.
Great Videos
I myself just picked up an SP 101 but it’s .357 mag . Lightweight . Only 5 rounds though. So far so good.
I’ve got the Henry and a ruger chambered in .327, can never find the sp101 though. Love the cartridge
Try Critical Defense ammo in 32 HR mag. Takes it down a step and still deadly effective. Even hotter 32 Longs. Check out Gun Sam's ballistic gel work with 32 Long. You will be stunned at how good it is with Magtek armmo. I have three of them and love 'em. One GP100 and two LCRs. Unfortunately Ruger quit making the 327 LCR in 3 inch barrel.
I think the .327 has great potential as a field cartridge, generally loaded down a bit to .32/20 speeds for small game with the hot ones in reserve, but no one seems to do that much anymore, and the .22 mag is excellent in that role as well with the right loads. A longer barrel would be nice for field carry, and might tone down the blast a bit. The blast is also a common complaint about the .30 Super Carry, the latest attempt to gin up a hot .32 defense round.
Awesome video nice 327 federal magnum thanks for sharing Hickok45
I have wanted a SP101 for a long time. I remember when it was released in .327 Federal Magnum and that was the caliber I wanted. I have a GP100 in .357 Mag. Some day I will have an SP101. It may even be in .327 to get that extra round.
I believe in giving credit when credit is due. I have not really been a fan of this channel but due to the fact that a review is being done, I say fine job. This revolver and caliber have been ignored too long.
1st time I shot mine, I was shooting 100 grain .327 FedMag. I was surprised by the recoil and loudness. It's manageable; but, quite impressive. My SP101 was a lemon in the fact that the trigger pull was excessively heavy and very gritty. I did some polishing and changed a couple springs. It's very much better than it was. I'm curious to see penetration test results.
Good morning!! The SP101 is on my wish list. I might look into the 327 SP101 just because I’ve never had anything in that chamber. If not, definitely 38 special/357. I have a Ruger LCR 38 special. Maybe I’ll get another LCR in 327 and get the SP101 in 38 special. Something to think about. What’s the best way to close a cylinder on a revolver? I had someone tell me; never, by the cylinder. Always by the crane.
I have a .357 SP101. After a spring kit and polishing the trigger internals for an eternity it's a good shooter. The trigger pull was like 10 lbs of gravelly crap. Now? It's really one of my favorite revolvers even though im more of a S&W fan.
S&W isn't what they used to be since it prioritized striker fired junk!!

The .327 federal magnum has hung around long enough that if the gun media pushes it the way 10mm got pushed, the round could become more popular. Ruger makes a new model single 7 with a 7 1/2" barrel, which is an interesting single action revolver to shoot.
Taurus has a snubby version now too
I had never even heard of the .327 Fed Mag until I saw this video. I got the Ruger single six in .32 H&R Magnum, as soon as they came out, way back when. It was a great little pest dispatcher and plinker. Ironically, it was easier for me to find .32 S&W Long ammo than the .32 Mag. I think at that time, the only other gun chambered for it was a 2" Charter Arms fixed sight belly gun. The mag had quite a bark out of a 5 1/2" barrel, I can't imagine it out of a snubby revolver.😮
@@analogludite9575 I bought a Ruger new model single six in .22lr .22 mag back then when I couldn't get a single six in .32 h&r mag. In 2007 I bought a Cobra arms derringer in .32 h&r mag.
I wanted to buy a Henry lever action rifle in .327, but they stopped making them. So, I bought a barrel insert for my 12 gauge shotgun that allows me to shoot the .327 round. I don't have a revolver in .327 yet, but I do have one in .32 H&R magnum.
Nice thing about the sp101 and the GP100 is they make good clubs if you’re out of ammo, beefy
I got a Bond arms chambered in 327. Ammo for 327 is pretty much unavailable on shelves. But I have bought 32 short, 32 long, and 32 h&r mag from various gun stores. 327 you gotta pretty much order online. But the ammo I really want isn't available. That being the HST federals and the Speer Gold dots. However double tap makes great ammo for it that I have great results with, and presumably buffalo bore too. I have great results with Buffalo bore but I haven't shot it in 327
Damn did not know that’s how loud they are. Those are nice revolver
I have a SP101 in .357.....and of course.....a GP100. Absolute MUST haves for any serious gun enthusiast. They are super fun, super accurate, and because of the weight......have minimal recoil. I have not shot .327 Mag, but that may change soon.😉
Good to see you up and at it my friend.
It is a great cartridge IMO. The thing is with any of the real magnums you can use loads less than full power that split the difference with lesser rounds. For example with the 44 magnum you can run 180 to 200 grain loads at around 1000-1100 for a defense load that exceeds the 44 special but is less taxing on ears, wrists, and over penetration than full house hunting loads.
Own the Ruger SP101 in this caliber. I think it’s a great idea. Looking for the same caliber in a S&W revolver. Tried all around. NG. Please advise if you know of anyone who has it. Thanks, Paul
There was a gp100 chambered in 327 that was a 7 shot and Also a blackhawk chambered in 327 that was an 8 shot
I like the SP101's in general. The part I like the most about thr the 327 Federal clambering is the number of other 32 caliber rounds that can be fired in that gun.
Yah all those 32 calibers that we see around all the time…..

You can get a single stage Lee, and Dies for the 32 for under a hundred bucks. Why people don't reload is beyond me. Especially revolver rounds. i don't even clean the brass until it gets real nasty. The 327 is by far the most versatile round out there. My go to plinking round is a Speer 98gr wadcutter, over 1.8 grains of Titegroup in a Long. Total cost is 18 cents per round, and a little time, and work. I find it relaxing.
BTW, Henry just started making their Big Boy Steel in 327 in Carbine, and 20" rifle. Lipsey just came out with a Blued, half lug sp101. Beautiful gun.
A 32 hr mag is blasty too? I love that light round.
Picked up one years ago. With .327 FM you are not going to be out-gunned. And, with S&W .32 or even .32 Mag it's something my wife can handle if needed. I wish Federal would do more .327 ammo runs to help availability and hopefully price gouging (which has gotten me into re-loading).
I have handloaded a bunch of 327 FM over the past few years. I have found that Power Pistol is my go-to powder in it.
I picked up a Ruger SP101 a couple years ago with the 4.2 inch barrel in 357. It’s a very well made revolver. But I didn’t know that the 327 Fed magnum has a 6 round cylinder instead of 5.
Sending that first .327 Mag round downrange was quite the sensory experience - *kaPOW!*
I have this gun and a couple of LCRs and a Taurus in this caliber. I feel less recoil compared to my 357 although many people say they fell no difference. It shoots very well out of my Henry also.
The 32 HR is a good round with less recoil. Ammunition is hard to come by IME.
Buds need to let its Team Buds members know when they have a Hickok firearm for auction. Years ago I got the IMI Massada that was a Hickok demo. It’s a BbQ gun for sure.
I'm Australian. I really wish I was a US citizen. In fact, I wish I was born in the US. Australians don't have that freedom loving spirit.
Come on over we’ll adopt you.
@toddrobertson5950 Thanks, mate. Australia is an anti gun leftist commy state now. It was good but not anymore.
Interessantes Video und schöner Revolver!
I have the Ruger Sp-101 .357! Excellent revolver! .327 looks interesting. 🦅🇺🇸
Ordered one last night, hopefully it ships tomorrow.
