I think I forgot to give the MSRP in the video. The MSRP is $1,239.00.
Well worth it.
Not worth it rather buy a ol Winchester model 94
@@TheTexan99 it's funny, can't seem to find one of those brand new.
Exactly!!!@@TheTexan99
Federal don't still sponsor your ammo??
Love how Hickock gets older, he gets into more detail about the firearm and the details and accessories he uses! Love how he mentioned Limbsavers, as a bow hunter, appreciate that! Not too many firearm owners know how productive their products are for firearms as well as Bows!
He made a point, at 8:01, the price of the rifle is over 1 thousand dollars, but they are lighter, under Ruger Manufacturing.
Thanks, but the older Marlin is the Cowboy model with the octagonal barrel, plus it's a longer barrel. I would imagine the old Marlin models with the exact same barrel configuration would weigh the same as the new Ruger Marlin.
been watching your videos for a while and I got to say the contact and the weapons of choices that you use are amazing but could you use the weapons from Police Academy movies
Sir it has already been released in the 38/357. I was estatic to stroll in my local shop and see the first one shipped there. It was within 5 minutes of the driver unloading it there. I proudly left there with it! Long live the lever gun!!!!
how much?
Sir I believe it was about 1100$
@@TommyboyGTP
Sir I believe it was about 1100
A year ago I walked into my local gunshop and they had an 1895 sbl (only one I have seen in maine or at least at shops I have been too). she had been passed over twice before she didn't get passed a third time.
Is $989 before tax a good price for the 1894c 357?
The old man is still out there making content! Hell yea, I must have been watching for over ten years now.
These small lever actions are great. I have a Winchester Model 94AE Trapper in .44 mag with a 16" barrel. It is a wonderful deer rifle for hunting the thick woods in Northern Minnesota. I have taken many deer with it. Most of the shooting is within 30 yards. However, the most recent buck was knocked down at 80 paces. I am 6'6" with a long stride. The little lever can be easily carried all day long. Thanks for sharing the Marlin.
Love Marlin's rifles.. Hope to own a 336, once again. 35 Remington.. Great to hear Ruger picked up the torch.
One of the last firearms I purchased over the years was a lever Henry Steel in .38/.357.
That gun has given me many hours of shooting pleasure, not to mention reasonable cost and high availability of ammo and reloading components, the wide range of applications from target shooting, to hunting, to self-defense, and the simplicity and reliability of a quality lever action.
It appears that lever action rifles are here to stay, and growing in popularity.
So well said such an excellent statement ! 😊
You are correct there on the rising popularity. Three weeks back (3/09/24) I went to the huge Fort Worth gun show, was there during the first half hour of it opening with the aim of getting one of the Ruger/Marlin 1894s in 357. I found the only one in the whole show & walked out $1100 lighter but very happy. Saw only one other of the new 336s but that lady was asking $1500. Based on the number of folks walking around with lever guns I’ll bet she got what she was asking. There were levers all over, I’d say almost 1:1 with the proliferation of black guns, all at way higher prices than I used to see. But I’m happy to see it. They are the handiest type of long gun & uniquely American
@@cvisenti That is very interesting to hear about all of the lever actions at the gun show. A few other advantages that I did not mention was ease of maintenance and handling safety when compared to the AR-15 type semi-auto's. Those who put a high value on magazine capacity will of course favor the AR-15, and many of us have both.
Consider the rich Henry line of .38/.357's, now with both side-gate and tubular loading (I favor), and in all-weather stainless steel.
@@vernsquash8883 yessir. I’m gearing up next to get a color case hardened Henry in 30-30 or perhaps the all weather. I’ve shot a lot with my 1952 Marlin 336C & seen deer & hogs go down as if pole axed using those Barnes TSX bullets. I’d trust that performance on anything that walks this continent, and I own several high end bolt actions too in .270, 30-06, 300WM, 243. But the performance in the field with Barnes TSX bullets out of that 30-30 has cemented it for me as capable of anything you ask of it. I’ve clobbered some massive wild hogs. Going to start interchanging it with the new SBL Marlin 1895 Guide Gun 45-70 I got last year to see how that does. Obviously I know it packs the punch, but it’ll have to really impress to supplant that 30-30.
@@cvisenti Hear, hear! Many who don't hunt wild game or read hunter's testimonies, do not realize how effective a well placed .30 caliber bullet can be even at modest .30-30 velocities. I load the 158-gr. .357 Hornady XTP FP over 15-gr. of H-110 for my Henry, and that nearly matches the energy level of the .30-30. One thing to watch for if you are a reloader, is that some jacketed bullets (especially copper plated) are not designed for velocities, over say, 1400fps, and will leave copper fouling in the barrel. Hornady, for example, puts the max velocity on the box, but others do not.
So happy to see this review pop in today. Regrettably I sold my .44 Marlin a few years back and have wanted to try this Ruger version since they took over. I just picked this up on Saturday.
Someone said, "Life is good!" 👍
Im not really into guns but i always enjoy watching your videos with the effort and humor you have in them
That .44 mag comes screaming out of that long barrel!! Great deer rifle
So glad Ruger bought out and is bringing Marlin back to beautiful, well working firearms with nice fit and finish again.
I still think a couple adjustments could be made theyre not quite what my old marlin from 1920 is like i could tell you key reasons why i wouldnt trade my old one for any of the new ones even as good as the newer ones are. I say dang just living with it because it was built in certain slight ways that makes it better. I think the new ones could still get better
A pistol caliber carbine for this new Marlin M1894 lever action rifle chambered in .44 magnum & .44 special. Makes a lot of sense. Not an easily understood concept among the 2A crowd obsessed over semi-autos built in recent years, but hopefully they can make sense of it too. What a nice addition to the collection!! 🎉
Lever guns are fun and useful for hunting. Semi-autos are for civil defense against criminals, most of all, criminals in office. People buy based on needs, hence the semi-autos of late.
Of course, there isn't anything wrong with accepting semi-auto PCCs commonly integrated within the arsenal of the historical mix of arms each individual 2A-exercising citizen owns.
Just bought one last weekend. The black walnut is amazing
It's great to see the Marlin rifles return. I remember their small advertisement in "Boy's Life" and "Popular Mechanic" magazines.
Levers and single actions are my favorites!
I could watch Hickok45 do these guns everyday.
Cheers
And side by sides. 😇
I'm glad to hear your review. I was lucky enough to find one of these about two months ago and just love it. In my opinion as good if not better than the original Marlin 1894.
Love the levers!! The new "Marlin" looks OK. Thanks, and Happy New Year, Hickok45!!
I have one handgun and don't know much about guns. Your channel is fun to watch and videos like this help people like me. Thanks you guys, great video
My dad gave me an 1894 in .44 Mag for Christmas back in ~ 1976 and I scoped it and have taken a number of deer over the years with it. I passed it on down to our oldest son for his 30th birthday several years back but not before our youngest son took his first deer (8 pointer) with it. Marlin really knew how to make a quality gun. I have bought two lever guns to fill the lever gap in my life: both Henry guns - a .357/.38 and a 45/70.
Love the wisdom, humor , knowledge! I learn from you, enjoy your videos and appreciate you avoiding politics and controversy... It's about the fun of shooting!
My very first deer rifle was a Marlin 336C. I'm glad Ruger bought them. Good video, thanks.
13:39 Relatives in Kentucky? We absolutely love you here in Kentucky Sir! I get the joke! Thank you for pushing forward and making awareness of firearm safety and use of such a beautiful tool! Love this review!
I want to start looking for another lever action gun. I can't find a 30-30 anywhere. So what do I look for next
I always thought the 44mag was just for pistols. So I'm started to find my 2nd lever action and hopefully I'll get a 44 mag or the 30-30
Watching you shoot this 44mag I want one now plus I reload ammo.thanks ahs Happy New year's 🎉
KY???? Me TOO!!
Just went to a gun show here in south Texas. I saw this model and one in 357 with a 16 inch barrel. I think Ruger is doing an outstanding job with the 1894. I have also read where there is going to be more calibers. I cant wait for one in 41 mag. Price at the gun show for these was 1076.00
16 inch? Sweet, looking forward to that one
Lucky that you don't live in a communist state
Looks like ruger is taking marlin in the right direction. Handsome rifle!
Merry Christmas Hickok Family!
The Marlin 357 lever I got last month feeds 357 and 38 equally smoothly. I was very impressed by that!
I bought the same gun. It is an Ilion NY gun. Love it. I bought it new for 550.00 on gunbroker. Seems like it more than doubled with ruger.
These new marlins may very well be the finest yet.
Really glad Ruger has brought the 1894 back. I own 3 original 1894 Marlins in in 357, 44 mag and 45 LC, but the 44 mag has the 1/38 inch twist in a Micro Groove barrel that isn't the best for heavy, above 265 grain, and cast bullets. I may have to add the new Ruger/Marlin with the 1/20 inch twist standard rifling for heavy cast bullet shooting.
I’m not sure what makes one lever action different from another shootability wise but I picked up a .44 magnum Henry model x big boy and I love it. Add 600-700 dollars more in ranger point precision add ons and it looks like a top shelf firearm. Something so unbelievably satisfying about lever guns
Bought one here in Ontario.Very hard to find.Retail was about $1700.Nice fit and finish.Shoots low even with rear ramp at the top.All loads were 240 grain, both factory and handoads.
I have several Marlin lever guns. My 1st Marlin that I bought was the 1894 in 44 Mag. Then I bought a Marlin 444 in 444 Marlin. Also bought a 336 in 30.30. The last one that I bought is the 1894 CS in 357/38 Spl. Love them. Have hunted with the 444 and the 44 Mag. Going to take the 336 and 1894 CS out soon and hunt with them. Have taken game with the 44 Mag and the 444
Bought mine today chambered in 357. Its a beauty.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year Mr. 45 !
Greets from Poland.
Please stay healthy !!!
I have 2 stainless steel 20" Rossi M92's, one in 357/38 and the other in 454 Casull. Love them both, thousands of rounds thru them and very accurate BUT they use the top location sliding bolt receiver top, if you want to mount a scope it has to be an extended eye relief model mounted in the scout position. Looks like I need a 44 Magnum Marlin to fill in the gap between the other two and with a 3x9 SIG Buckmaster on top I can't thing of a more fun woods rifle.
I was looking up aome Rossi rifles with the 357/ 38 special +. Can it shoot regular 38 special? Or does it need to be a certain bullet?
I have the Henry .44 big boy lever action and a Marlin 30-30. Love these guns.
I have a “Marlin” 1894p (ported) .44 and it is by far the handiest brush gun I’ve ever used.
"It's probably the rifles fault, not mine" that made my crack. 😂 Great video with a great rifle. I'm from Germany and ordered this model but i will have to wait until next year in May, because those are not easy to get over here. Have a good time and stay healthy.
How does Ruger levergun compares to Henry Big Boy in 44 magnum? Which one is the better gun?
I have one of the new ones. If I don’t work the lever hard the round will hang up half way out of the magazine tube. Hope it gets better with use.
Mr hickok. I absolutely love my ruger revolvers. And they get used very hard. And shoot top handloads. And ask for more. I only have ruger revolvers. They will eat what hurts a smith and ask for desert. The new marlins will be the best marlins ever. 😊😊
Awesome marlin 1894 44 mag rifle thanks for sharing Hickok45
YO I THOUGHT IT SAID 4 YEARS AGO?!?!? I LOVE YOU HICKOK, YOU DA MAN!!!
2 years ago I got a Marlin 1894 in 357 mag other than a loose foresite everything was good. put a scope on it and was getting 3/4 inch groups at 100 yard with hornady leverution .
You didn’t mention cost. The Ruger-made Marlins appear to be great lever guns, but they are pricey (if you can get one).
I have an original MJ marked 336 Cowboy in 38-55 an absolute tack hammer.
Yet on other original Ruger made firearms, they can be affordable, such as the Ruger American rifle series.
@louiskazimer7938 I believe that you mean JM marked.
@kylevidetto1115 there are far less moving parts in a ruger american and its got a plastic stock too which all reduces cost.
@@WayStedYou of course, that definitely is the truth. Materials and mechanisms do matter.
I'm from Sweden but I too feel like a cowboy at heart, watchin' this here fine shootin' session 🤠
You are an honorary cowboy to us lol
@@smidgegames7233 🍻
It's not likely that I will buy a new one. Because I have 3 JM marked. But it's good to see that Ruger hasn't cheapened them up.
One of the benefits of having several quality lever actions available is rhat you can have different brands dor each caliber making it easy to keep track. 😁
My only negative is the manual safety. Lever guns don't need one. Lawyers do.
I’m glad to see that I can now use the cast bullets out of my Lyman Bullet molds, cause the bore on my new one ruger made, is “ .429” instead of.432 as is in my cowboy 44.
In 1984 I bought my Winchester 30.30 for $300.00 from J.C.Penny. Lever action and I installed micro blade sights for the rear. Mistake was selling it
I have my grandfathers JM Marlin 1894 in 44mag. I’ve got several deer in the freezer with it over the years
Nice shooting. I sold my Marlin because it was a mess to get lead bullets to fly accurate. Marlin have a bigger bore dia.. it worked with jacketed bullets. Instead I have now a 73 Winchester in 357 made by Miroku. Quality and finish like day and night to Marlin.
My Marlin 1894 in .357 does great with the GECO ammo. Greetings from Belgium
Awesome video as usual. Informative, as well as entertaining. Thanks for all of your knowledge and sharing it with us.
Glad I caught this. I have a brand new 1894 Classic .44 coming this next week! Can't wait to get my hands on it. I chose the classic to get the 1:20 twist so I can shoot heavier bullets. I have also been researching peep sights. Skinner is on my list but I also just watched a video with George from Target Suite on the Ranger Point Precision fiber optic front and rear peep set up. Any suggestions on sight set ups or combos? I do like fiber optic but will a brass or gold bead front work just as well with the Skinner? Maybe a fiber optic with a skinner? Thanks for another great video. I was excited to see the new Marlin putting rounds down range.
I'm convinced that obsidian used hickock45 as the model for the courier in new vegas
The new rifle looks very good, I like the shape of the forend better than that on the old Marlin. Checkering looks better too, laser cut rather than pressed. Metal finish looks better. I had a JM Marlin .44 Cowboy, wasn't really impressed with the finish, I prefer that of the older Winchesters, this new rifle looks like a winner.
Hi mr Hickok. The old marlins were awsome. And smooth. The Remington marlins were awful. Now ruger took over they will be awsome again. I like winchesters, henry and old marlins. And the ruger marlins. I like quality. Not cheep.. my henry brass feeds 44 spl/ 44 mags flawless. 😊😊
Dear Hickorony : which is the most melow caliber outta the 44 mag. / 44-40 , / 45 colt , / 38-40 , in a lever action rifle?
Wow! The price is higher than Henry’s. I think Ruger has increased there prices a lot in the past few years. They are not the bargain for what you get company anymore.
13:36 - 13:52 "It's a Model 1894, so -- even my relatives in Kentucky could probably tell me when this rifle was invented."
Ah, spoken like a true Tennessean. Ha.
"That's not just a random number."
Good review -- description, evaluation and visual demonstration. Thanks in part to Bud's Gun Shop. Hickok45 'goes the extra mile' and brings out his JM Marlin 1894 to compare to. . . . Helpful to see the .44 Special is functioning alright though a depressing reminder to hear his comment about that round's costliness.
Just picked one up on Friday. Can’t wait to try it.
hickok ! i watched your videos a few years ago and then i saw that other guy took over for a while, just wanted to say im very happy you're back and well !
Nobody "took over." My son John does a video every now and then, but in all these years, he's probably never done two in a row. Is THAT who you mean, or are you confusing our videos maybe with somebody else's videos?
@@hickok45 ohhh I see, yeah I think it might have just been UA-cam’s auto play, it was probably around a year and a half ago and I watched a few videos that were relatively close upload dates and John was the host. Apologies.
I think you must be from Kentucky 🤣
13:20 AMERICAN Black walnut🇺🇸 💪🏾🔥♥️
Classic looking beauty , the furniture looks great .
Love those 1894s, especially the originals though 32-20 is tough to find
Дедушка спасибо за ролики в далёком наверное году так 2007-2008 будучи школьником смотрел твои ролики и мечтал купить мосинку )
Molodyets
I have one in stainless steel and it's an original Marlin. Also have one in .357 I pair mine with S&W 686+ models a 4" .357 mag and a 5" .44 mag
I just wish they would have finally removed the cross bolt safety, or at least offer it as some sub model "1894 Classic" Or some such.
That's the only way I would be interested in it. Absolutely hate the modern safety.
Marlins BEFORE Remington bought them, were of great quality.
Now the quality has returned.
I've been eyeballing these and they really seem put together well. I'd get one but i just splurged and got a Ruger deerfield. I'm thinking i want to get one eventually for my wife to hunt with. I know if i do she will be very possessive of it but i might at least get to hold it once in a while. lol There's just something about big bores and lever guns. I'll blame John Wayne, rest his soul. lol
If anyone reloads cast bullets for this, I would be curious if you can get away with using 'normal' sized bullets like you would use for a 44 mag revolver, or do you still have to use 'over sized' bullets so that it does not key hole or exhibit just poor accuracy. This new marlin has 1:20 twist rate so that might help.
Newer Marlins are hard to beat ! Altho I never understood how micro- grooving a barrel is any diffrent 😮
I always loved a lever gun, had a Marlin .357 lever action back in the mid 80's loved the gun except it kept having feed issues with the tube spring I had in for repair numerous times ended up getting a refund, also had a Ruger Blackhawk 357 which is why I got the Marlin lever action rifle.
The money I got back on the Marlin I put towards a Thompson Center Contender single shot pistol which I wish I still had.
Lot of iron out there.
Boy what beautiful firearms 😊 you are missing out if you haven’t held one of these sweet babies in your arms.
That .44 magnum is a plenty punchy round. Seems like a prefect camping 🏕️ all around rifle.
A perfect fit with a wheel gun of the same caliber.
I sometimes get my Marlins out just to polish and admire them.
I would love to hear Hickok’s opinion on the differences between Winchester, Marlin and Henry.
Winchester and Marlin still seem to be entrenched in that larger caliber fetish..no rimfire at all....and it's kicked the market door open wide for Henry....Henry's wider assortment and customer service response seems to be much more appropriate for this day and age..
Thanks for showing us a very good rifle!
That pumpkin at 0:45 was effectively able to achieve cover under fire.
I got two 1894's.25-35 made 1905. And a 30-30 made 1907.26"octagon barrels. good power and accuracy.😊😊😊
The buffalo survived, and you flinched!
Very nice Rifles ❤ thank you for this Video.
I have a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag I got in 1982. I just acquired a 336 Marlin in 35 Remington
PSA has them on sale for $1k. Mine should be shipped soon. I have the 357 model already. I was so impressed that I wanted to get the 44 model too.
Gota a Rossi in 44 mag. Great lever action.
I assemble part of this rifle at Ruger. I really want to get myself one in the stainless steel version. There is a short barrel version of the firearm available also.
I understand why you want one. I started with the 1895 SBL. Next were the 1894C's in .44 and .357. Then, the 1894 SBL in .44. I would like the 1894 SBL in .357, too, but I haven't seen one yet. Sweet guns, for sure.
I sold my Marlin 336 and bought a Henry. I just couldn't get over that goofy safety.
Still has half cock. Super easy to do a safety delete for the cross bolt safety and it only cost $20
I agree. There's an easy fix for it, though. I've "fixed" about all of mine.
@@hickok45 That sounds like a great subject for a video
@@RebelByNature Yeah, but the YT fascists would likely get their panties in a bunch over that.
Beautiful rifle….looks quality. I’ll definitely buy one.
Well, today's the day I heard Hickok say 'wankey'. Fantastic.
I have a Browning 92 in 44 mag great shooting rifle. The answer to your question is if it functions correctly its a Ruger
Reminds me of going to Kmart when I was a wee lad and checking out the cowboy set with the lever action rifle cowboy 🤠 hat with drawstring kerchief two six shooters with holster. Yee Haw.
I have a Winchester 1894 .44, 2 bucks a round now. So, I imagine it shoots real nice lol. I bought a 50 round box for $99.95 a few months just so I have ammo on hand.
No jokes with that Old man
I could immediately tell that the 44 spl wasn't nearly as fast as the 44 mag.
Yes you could hear it on the gong
I like the .44special for home defense and the .44magnum for hunting
That would be the best of both worlds the new Sturm Marlin Co.😊
Apparently they’re offering in .357 Magnum/ .38 Special now too. Tim at Military Arms Channel posted a video with one.
you are having so much fun,, you're just fun to watch.
Gaston Glock, the inventor and producer of the legendary Glock pistol, has passed away. Gaston Glock 1929-2023, may he rest in peace.
Just watched Tim on the MAC Channel reviewing this rifle chambered in .38/.357. He loved it too. And missing a few targets? For Hickock…it likely IS the rifle and not him! 😂
I bought the new ruger marlin 44mag for around $1200. After about a 50-100 rds the pin that holds the band around the fore stock broke. So I sent it back and they fixed it. When I got it back I put another 50-100rds through it and broke again… sent it back and waiting for its return. A little disappointed for a 1200 rifle. We’ll see if it breaks again.
