  • In this video, I show to you the Brightin Star 50mm f/0.95 full-frame lens on a Nikon Z7 body. This sounds amazing at only $369 MSRP for a lens with this specifications. So I just had to give it a try!

    I have this lens, a little heavy but the quality to price ratio is unbeatable.

      Yes! But f/0.95 full frame lenses are always a bit on the heavy side! 😀

    Wonderful and comprehensive review. The ‘shortcomings’ of this lens I feel gives it character. Seems from another age. I already have the APC version for my Z50 and love it. This one will go on my Z5. For added effect I am using cinematic black mist filters for nighttime shooting. Thanks again for this review.

    Great review! One thing I'm going to miss about the GFX system is the wealth of third party manual lenses that the full frame mirrorless systems have access to.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  Рік тому +1

      That’s absolutely true. Certain full-frame lenses can be adapted to GFX but you’ll more often than not run into issue due to the sensor size not matching what the lens was designed for.

    Agree with you..... After I saw your review of the TTArtisan 35mm f1.4, I purchased and I have not regret it at all, its a very good little lens. I enjoy using manual lenses a lot, makes me remember my old days with my Nikon FM and my Nikkor lenses, some of them I still have like the Nikkor 85mm f2 manual focus from the 80's..... Thanks for the Information on this lens!!!!! And by the way, I don't think this lens is for me!!!

      Watch my video about the 7Artisans 35/0.95! As far as I know, the optics are identical to the Brightin Star, basically it’s the same lens just with some cosmetic changes! Here is the link to my review:

      I love your videos, very informative.
      But I don't understand how Brightin Star can have a 50mm for Full Frame and also a 35mm that's comparable to the 7artisans 35mm for APS-C? Because the 35mm APS-C is actually a 53mm Full Frame equivalent..
      I have the 7artisans 35mm and it has the same angle as a Fuji zoom set to 35mm, so that's a true APS-C lens.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  8 місяців тому

      @@mr.b6789 The focal length of the lens itself does not change because it is mounted on a full frame camera or an APS-C camera. Sure, if you mount the 35mm lens on your Fuji, it is a 35 x 1.5 = 52.5mm "full frame equivalent". If you do mount the 50mm lens on your APS-C camera, it becomes a 50 x 1.5 = 75mm full frame equivalent lens.
      Now the catch is that the lenses that are specifically designed for APS-C won't cover a full frame sensor. There will be black edges towards the edges of the image, because the lens glass and everything is just a bit smaller in diameter. This way you save glass (= cost and weight) and can make a smaller lens for all those that use APS-C cameras only.
      The 50mm full frame lens has more glass in it, it is designed to cover the full frame sensor for those who shoot Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic ... Sure, you can still mount it on an APS-C camera. But you can't mount the 35mm APS-C lens on a full frame camera. You would need a full-frame 35mm lens for your full frame camera ... and you will see there's basically no 35/0.95 lens that covers full frame!

      @@tomscameras I now understand that I assumed @manuelmorre asked about a Full Frame 35mm lens, because this video was about a Full Frame lens. Since you mentioned that there is no Full Frame 35mm, it makes sense. 35mm Brightin Star is for APS-C.
      Off topic: if it is the same lens as the 7artisans, then it should be a great lens 👍

    As much that I love your videos as your fully info in Lenses, and Cameras, But with the lens that I am thinking is the Canon 50mm F/1.1.2 for my Canon 7 as is just cheaper, and much sharper than the Brightin lens, and as the Canon lens was design without Computers, and as it was design with creative minds, and Made in Japan.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your comment!
      Oh yes there are many great 50mm lenses, both vintage and new. And yes it is always a very personal question if you want to go for the last bit in ultimate lens speed or settle for a somewhat slower lens. So f/1.2 is already super-fast, but still ... it's just not f/0.95.
      In the Canon LTM system there was a 50/0.95 alongside the 50/1.2 that you mention. That 50/0.95 also isn't praised by anyone, plus it is today much more expensive than the new Brightin Star lens.

    Do not like the way this Brighten Star dude does business...First offered me to buy its 35mm f0.95 lens for $179 amd when I was read to buy it, the price upped over $200...When asked if it is a scam, it refused to reply....
