    She's on POINT. I've had gastritis burning for years, likely due to low stomach acid. I did some research and decided I wanted to go all natural. I bought some organic ginger and I grate 2 or 3 pinches worth and take it before and while I eat. All I can say is it's a miracle. My digestive system moves food through like a well oiled machine! The pain is gone. Such relief!

    I had an emergency surgery to remove my gall bladder last year, the surgeon told me I have ulcers around the top of the stomach opening. His response was to give a prescription, yes Pantoprazole. I knew that this and other types of these scripts were to reduce acid, so didn't even consider using them. I researched online and the overwhelming suggestions was to drink ACV, for over 40 years the feeling that I had a lump or restriction in my throat was always present. I've been on Keto for 16 months now, never had soft drinks or sugar whether it be lollies biscuits or cakes so not a big change. With the combination of low carb and ACV that restriction in my throat has gone, oh boy I wish I had known this simple remedy years ago. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia (71 yrs)

    Thank you for this information. I basically have all the symptoms, constantly feeling fatigued or exhausted, constant constipation, pale colored poop (I’ve had my gallbladder removed in the past years but this is still a problem from time to time), and the constant acid reflux, indigestion and heartburn. I'm glad you feel like this helped you! IT does sound like low stomach acid may be an issue. I will gently warn you, however, that your doctor will mostly likely pooh pooh this suggestion. Maybe not, maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised! Here is another video I made about how to increase your stomach acid, it's a natural companion to this video, and should give you what you need if doctor isn't helpful: ua-cam.com/video/zh28pEB6eiU/v-deo.html
      And if you still feel like you need more support with concerns like these, I have a few more spots open in my brand new group program, starting June 29th to help you go from food anxiety, endless questions and second guessing about your unpredictable bloating, constipation, or diarrhea to a confident plan for calm digestion. If you'd like to learn more about that, or apply for a seat, you can schedule a time to meet with me here: confluencenutritionappointments.as.me/discovery-call. THanks so much for watching!

It indicated LOW HYDRACHLORIC ACID in my stomach. Also one of the omega 3's was low as well. The rest was fine. Easy fix, right? Why didnt the 3 docs even look into this? HPylori test was negative, CBC was fine so I was dismissed...

      Carolina Total Wellness website ''5. Baking soda stomach acid test. While not as accurate as the above tests, this is a free at-home test you can use to get an indication of your stomach acid levels. The results can vary from person to person depending on interpretation of the results. Some use it as a baseline measure and to track changes over time.
      First thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything:
      Mix ¼ tsp baking soda in 4 to 6 ounces of cold water.
      Drink the baking soda solution.
      Time how long it takes for a burp to occur. Time it for up to 5 minutes
      If you have not burped within five minutes, it may be a sign of insufficient stomach acid. Early and repeated burping may be due to too much stomach acid (do not to confuse this with small burps from swallowing air when drinking the solution). Any burping after 3 minutes is an indication of low stomach acid levels.''

      Hi Gloria, you're welcome! Most docs don't know how to assess this stuff, so it falls to us functional medicine and nutrition practitioners to help and educate. I'm glad you found some useful info from your test. Do you feel better by supporting your stomach acid and increasing Omega 3s?

      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 роки тому +1

      @@pjo2386 Indeed, this is a simple at home test, and can be helpful, though it isn't ultra accurate. I do recommend people use it as a rough guideline. It's still unclear which helped the most. My stomach issues improved w/apple cider vinegar , only a swig once in a while though. Other times I'd take digestive enzymes (if I remembered) before eating . It seems as though I have a very sluggish digestive system and metabolism. I suffered with stomach burning and weird SIBO like bloating , didn't recognize my own stomach! It was always flat as a board and been the same weight for decades. Fasting always improved symptoms. I now take Omega 3's a few times per week. Im not sure what helped the most, just happy its a bit better. I also noted an improvement when I stopped taking my daily 60 Billion strain probiotic, which I took for years.

      Hi Marissa, I believe that YES, shifts in your hormone landscape can definitely affect your tissues, including things like the lower esophageal sphincter. IT can also alter the gut microbiome, which can impact heartburn symptoms. So there is definitely something to your theory! If you already have a burning sensation and gastritis, proceed carefully with that supplement trial, and be prepared to stop if it makes things worse.

I was placed on the antibiotic “doxycycline for a sinus infection bout two years ago. I got very sick . Couldn’t eat, breathless , severe panic attacks all kinds of symptoms. Then suddenly it was gone. This past year I got very I’ll lost 78 pounds . Couldn’t eat same symptoms as before but ever worse . Went to doctor , did an endoscopy and found out I had gastritis and an ulcer. Was also taking all kinds of antacids . Started taking a probiotic and Thank God began to feel a lot better but now that I’m eating more my abdomen , upper and lower legs have been swollen. I’ve noticed my face is puffy also . When I couldn’t eat properly I didn’t have any inflammation at all . Also my sinuses bother me alot and I can’t smell at all since I began eating again. I’ve read some things about food intolerances and I’m just wondering if all this inflammation could be caused by something in my diet or low stomach acid? In just a few weeks I gained like 40 pounds back. I realize that I’m eating more and expected to gain some weight back but that doesn’t seem normal. My feet are not swollen at all . So it doesn’t seem to be that I’m holding fluid just inflammation in my body . I didn’t have any of these symptoms until I took that antibiotic. Been down hill ever since . I didn’t have h pylori , tested negative for that . I’m just trying to figure out why I’m so inflamed. Any advice would be so greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long post !

      Hi Kelly, given what you say here, my sense is that this problem is larger than simply foods or stomach acid. I often try to sort cases into one of three buckets: immune/inflammatory, gut, or toxic exposures... though all three may be involved, I would suspect you are dealing with more of an immune/inflammatory issue with swelling OR toxic exposure (think mold?), but without more details, it's impossible to say! I encourage you to find a practitioner who can help you dig into all this. I might recommend Dr. Ruscio and his team at austinfm.com. Thanks so much for watching!

Could it be dangerous or harmful to take HCL if low stomach acid is not the problem? A very useful video thankyou . I have self diagnosed acid reflux and now after dietary adjustment the symptoms appear to have disappeared and I feel better than I have for a long time . The dietary adjustment ? I started by taking a teaspoon of miso in a mug of hot water with lunch and evening meals . I immediately realised that miso feels very compatible with the stomach and that it reduces appetite for carbohydrates . Following that I began to prepare my main carbs , ie rice and potatoes so that the levels of resistant starch are raised . I simply cook them normally with a teaspoon or two of coconut oil , then refrigerate them for twelve hours after they cool . They are then ready for consumption . My appetite for resistant starch is lower than for carbs without that preparation and I am satisfied with less . I eat green bananas when just a little yellow is showing , another good source of resistant starch . My higher levels of resistant starch have resulted in constipation , but it is manageable . I don't think that I will progress to a zero carb diet and I have some little treats in moderation . I have lost over 5kg in three weeks and I can at this stage lose weight every day by maintaining this basic diet and keeping exercise levels higher ie 10,000 steps plus daily with other activity in addition .

    Took PPI's for 1year daily 40mg pantaprazole. my diet is very limited unfortunately because im gluten and lactose intolerant. my appetite is much less then my brothers eating 3x less because i feel full very quickly and i feel full for a very long time. e.g (a meal with meat results in me feeling full for 10-12hrs) i usually get bloating, gas, and sometimes nausea as well. i also burp a lot after meals. I did a blood test recently and i had a sufficiency of B12 despite eating a lot of chicken and eggs for my whole life regularly. the levels decreased from 850 to 250 in 8 months. I have also been feeling very tired lately, im guessing it could be due to mineral and vitamin deficiences. Although i stopped taking PPI's months ago but i still have these problems. Do you think i have low stomach acid? Thank you for the information in the video :D

    This is great information. In addition to this, please get your gallbladder checked if you have any of these issues. The doctor won't immediately go to this but if there is any way you can get them to approve investigation of the gallbladder then do it. The function of the gallbladder can decline slowly or rapidly without noticeable symptoms. I had mine removed and it did not help with my reflux/g.e.r.d, but the symptoms of reduced gallbladder function (as eluded to in the video) are sometimes synonymous with g.e.r.d.

      Of course it didnt help. The gallbladder is just a empty sack that stores bile made in the liver. Theres almost zero reason to ever remove it. Even gull stones over time can be cleaned out or at least lessened to a degree they arent a problem. The liver also stores gallstones. So without a gallbladder you're making the liver do even more work.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 роки тому

      @@nickjohnson3952 Well, I must disagree. Usually people need to remove the GB when stones have plugged the ducts, and this creates a life-threatening infection. It's definitely worth trying to save if possible, and to work on clearing stones BEFORE this becomes a problem, but once infection has set in, it's an emergency situation. The liver carries on as normal after GB removal, the main difference is that we no longer have the storage sac, like you mentioned, and this means we have less surge capacity for dietary fats.

    Why isn´t supporting your Stomach Acid with ACV and Betaine, if you have low stomach Acid AND Hypothyroidism a good idea? I seem to have that problem. I feel like the ACV and Betaine helps during the meals and up to 2 hours after. It significantly reduces symptoms in this time. It feels good and "right" to my body, but after those 2-3 hours, I still have to burp very frequent (I got LPR) and I still get heartburn.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition

      I'm not sure where you heard that not supplementing with low thyroid is good...if you have autoimmune diseases, you're more likely to have low stomach acid, and this includes hypothyroidism. As for why there is a 2-3 hour delay between supplementation and your LPR, I'm not sure, but if you could figure out the mechanism of that symptom, it would certainly help you control it. I believe I have low stomach acid since I had several H Pylori infections since I was a child. After the H Pylori was eradicated the gastritis turned autoimmune and atrophic and I had intestinal metaplasia in my esophagus and stomach lining. I was never able to take anything to increase my stomach acid since the supplements and ACV would make my symptoms unbearable. I switched to a plant based diet almost a year ago and the last endoscopy I had showed that my gastritis is healing and they didn't see evidence in of acid reflux but I still have severe symptoms. I don't want to stop my plant based diet since I attribute the healing of my stomach lining and esophagus to the diet but I'm concerned about what you mentioned about plant based diets resulting in low stomach acid. Hi goatonthehill, good work healing your gastritis, that is wonderful! Everyone is different, so it's hard to say what you should do. If you were my client, I might suggest focusing on healing your gut lining, and then seeing if you can tolerate some gentle acid support by starting very slowly and working up. Sometimes, supplemental betaine HCL is better in these situations because it goes direclty to the stomach without upsetting the esophagus. With an autoimmune situation, supporting the immune system to do it's work is the big picture path. Thanks for watching...

Within a day the awful burning sensation I had been having was gone! I kept at it for about a week and after that it was a long time till I experienced it again. I started the ACV again for a few days and it was gone again. Now when I have a flare up I just take a tablespoon of ACV in a few ounces of water before my main meal of the day. I usually only have to do this 2 or 3 times a year to keep things in check. Also have to remember that ACV is very acidic and can damage the tooth enamel. My solution is to drink it from a straw that I place back in my mouth so I miss a lot of the taste buds and it avoids my teeth. Works for me!

    Thanks for the video. I guess I might try ACV and HCL? Maybe you can tell if I have some symptoms of low stomach acid? Over 25 years ago I started having trouble with foods with saturated fat and cholesterol. I stopped eating meat. I would feel something on the left side of my chest, but it wasn't painful or burning. I ate a deep fried fish sandwich and had a funny feeling in the middle of my chest for 2 weeks. Not a burning or pain though. I ate a Subway tuna fish sandwich with mayo and my heart was skipping beats like crazy. In the middle. Not on left side. I could eat a doughnut or candy bar one day, but if I ate another doughnut or candy bat the next day I would get the bad feeling on the left side of my chest. If I eat certain breads, bagels or a cereal like Quaker Oat Squares for 2 days in a row, I am fine, but if I eat for 3 days in a row the left side of my chest will start feeling like it is skipping beats and will last for a few days. I also started getting pellet stool and constipation. Chocolate soymilk helped. Still have issue to this day, but psyllium husk fiber seems to help. A number of years later foods with starches like potatoes or pizza, if I ate too much of it at once without a balance of other non-starchy foods, I would get a sickly feeling in my lower stomach initially then I would go into these episodes where I could not eat or drink foods with sugar or starch for weeks. And the most recent I felt an unsettling of some sort in my upper stomach behind my breastbone area, along with a bad taste in my mouth. If I tried to eat something sweet, the taste would be ultra sweet and my teeth were very sensitive. I was waiting for my system to get back to normal so I could try to find a chocolate soymilk or almond milk that I enjoy drinking, but also helps with protein, etc, and helps maintain regular bowel movements. I am now 47. I have never really been over 120 lbs, went down to around 110 after becoming vegetarian / vegan over 20 years ago. During last episode where I was restricted, I went down to 95 lbs. Now I am back up to about 105. Brownberry natural wheat bread I can tolerate. They stopped making Simple Truth chocolate soymilk that I could tolerate when my system is normal. I could drink about a half gallon a day. No problems. I switched to Silk Ultra chocolate with 20 grams of protein per serving and can tolerate, but can't drink at night. It brought on similar pre-episode-like symptoms, not immediately, but in the morning. Also I used to be able to drink Mt. Dew everyday with my snack, with Back to Nature cookies, but now, since the switch to Silk Ultra, I can only drink maybe once a week. I tried to drink after 6 days and got 'slippery' feeling in the middle of my chest which can last for several days. The Mt Dew would sometimes burn my stomach. Drinking chocolate soymilk seemed to help soothe or prevent the burning. I also started burping quite a bit from the Mt. Dew and had a tight sensation in the middle of my chest. The chocolate Silk Ultra also gives me smelly bad gas. I tried to drink Silk vanilla soymilk and had funny feeling in middle of my chest. Almost like a very light pin-prickly feeling? After that, the other symptoms felt like it might put me back into one of those several -week episodes. This was over 2 weeks ago and I still have off and on uneasy or unsettling feeling in middle of my chest and behind right breastbone. I use the vanilla soymilk in my oatmeal every morning with no real issues. But I cannot drink it afterwards! The previous 2-month episode came on slowly. When I switched to chocolate almond milk, I immediately felt a funny sensation behind the right breastbone area. Usually when that happens, I can't stop the episode form eventually coming on full throttle. I was able to have my cookies, different experimental chocolate oat and almond milk drinks and Mt Dew for around another week-plus, then the cookies would start getting that ultra sweet taste, etc, and eventually just got to the point where they just tasted different, way to sweet and anything sweet-wise tasted different or too sweet. Even water tasted bad. Also had feeling of lump or something on right side of throat when swallowing. About 7 1/2 years ago, even though I had been eating Thomas wheat bagels for 2 years with no issues, I was eating them and all of a sudden and I lost my taste and went into the several-week episode. I had my blood checked pretty recently and had high B12. The soymilk has a lot of B12 and I was also taking a B supplement. Gluten tolerance test was normal. Other results they said were normal. I take chromium everyday for about 20 years, or else I wouldn't feel right from sweets. I seen where marshmallow root has a lot of starches. So maybe I will try slippery elm or the de-licorice? Do they have starches or sugars? Do I have signs of low stomach acid? Something else? Thank you for any help and supplement suggestions.

      Hi Ruth, thank you so much for taking the time to share all these details about your situation. Sometimes I use a phrase in my coaching: we need to back it up to the basics. What I'm hearing you say is that highly processed foods (mountain dew soda, chocolate sweetened soy and almond milk, cookies, pizza, and starchy foods) some sweetened with sugar, seem to be triggers. Sometimes, the simplest options are the most important.
      Considering what you are reporting here, I would probably suggest an experiment of reducing/removing added sugar from your diet for a few weeks and see if that makes any difference. Your stomach acid may be low, but I don't know if this is related to that weird feeling in your chest. You can evaluate that in the same way, by trying to support your stomach acid, and seeing what changes.
      This is the same method I teach my clients to get clarity on these kinds of questions in relation to their digestive challenges, I discuss a little bit more in this video: ua-cam.com/video/g9YTTDJCSXQ/v-deo.html

      @@ConfluenceNutrition Thank you for the response. It's not just highly processed foods. It's also fruits, potatoes and sometimes non-processed foods with natural sugar. But it is also a balance thing. I can eat and drink some of those things, but in a balanced way. I have pretty much already tried that experiment, unvoluntarily, when I wasn't able to eat or drink stuff with added sugars, when I was in the episodes. But do you mean I should use the experiment when not in the episode? How would I know if the experiment worked or what it accomplished after 2 weeks? I am about to watch the other video. Thank you.

      Hi Lance, that is one possibility. The trick is to use experiments to assess whether or not you're correct. It sounds like the PPI medication hasn't impacted your initial symptoms, which suggests the symptoms aren't coming from too much acid, and may have another mechanism. The question is what? stomach acid can be part of it, food sensitivities are another possibility, and underlying infections are further possibilities still. These are some of the layers to investigate. Thanks for watching, and I hope that helps.

    Well thank you a lot for your video. Very nicely described the subject matter.
    What is the correct reason or symptom of gastritis?High stomach acid due to stress and anxiety or low stomach acid due to stress and anxiety too?Yes it seems like a contradictory statement but I have seen and read this type of contradictory comments.So Im confused also.Whats your take on this matter?
    Another thing I read that vagus nerve damage/inflammation/irritation and related abnormal function of this nerve is thought by some to be cause of high or low stomach acid at least in some cases.
    My gastritis started five years ago after suffering an episode of overwhelming fear and anxiety spread over 3-6 Days.That false fear and anxiety left long ago yet the disease seems just wont leave me.
    Have read somewhere that excessive stress cause vagus nerve inflammation or irritation.
    Yet does that cause high stomach acid or low stomach acid seems undecided!Its like it can go either way high or low stomach acid.

      Hi Kevin, great questions! I think the influence of stress is potentially much larger than simply on stomach acid and the vagus nerve. Everyone is unique and that stress could trigger either low or high stomach acid. The important question is, which one is it for you? A small scale trial of supplementation can help you get more clear about this.
      But I think an even more important place for you to focus your attention is on nervous system rebalancing. I'll be making some content on this soon, but basically, I suspect that your body hasn't forgotten the scary experience you had, even if your mind feels "over it". Have you ever heard of EMDR therapy? This might be somethign super useful for you to work with. Thanks so much for watching, and keep me posted.

      When I have empty stomach for more than five or six hours I get burning pain in my stomach particularly wile my gastritis is flaring for weeks or days.
      Other times when its clam for my stomach in general I have noticed the food takes much longer to digest and stomach feels bloated and pain even if I eat just a bit more than my stomach allows.
      No longer I can eat two moderately full plate of fried rice /pilau like I could even five years ago like it was nothing during festival days .Now Infact one moderately full plate Is atmost I can eat by grace of almighty when my gastritis flare ups then the food intake becomes rather limited in amount and types of foods without suffering a lot of pain.
      I also have constipation so I am not sure but may be I am low on stomach acid.But foods like citric acid fruits orange and vegetable like tomato gives me increased burning pain in the stomach.So I am not really super excited about increasy stomach acid using apple cider vineger or such.
      Also I noticed my stomach doesnt empty as fast as it used to before gastritis happened.Like after an hour or two later of having a full lunch or dinner I could go for big amount desert foods like sweets etc.Now thats is a no no.I have to patiently wait 3/4 hours after a full lunch to eat some snack or sweet foods.If i take it sooner then my stomach will feel full and stretched and very painful.Maybe its caused by the actuall gastritis ie inflammed portion of the stomach's wall or maybe its because of low stomach acid food is digesting relatively slowly and so it stays in stomach for longer.I dont know for sure.
      And I will check that EMDR therapy.What it is and how it works.

      EMDR is a type of therapy that uses binaural brain stimulation to help the two halves of your brain connect and process traumas. The therapist uses a visual stimulation (light bar with lights going back and forth), audio stimulation (headphones with tones), and/or tactile stimulation (hand buzzers) that alternate left and right. They guide you through an exploration of the thoughts and feelings that come up from the process of stimulation. It's remarkable what arises to be faced and dealt with. I highly recommend.

    I’ve been without my gallbladder for 14 years and was never told about ox bile or enzymes. I’ve been on ppi’s for years and this year I’ve been in agony. All tests were normal except my liver enzymes were way off. My stomach feels like it’s going to burst hours after eating. He said my symptoms make no sense. It hurts in my back and upper abdomen until I make myself throw up to relieve the pain. I lost 56lbs in three months from this. Everything I eat bloats, burns, and hurts. Water can do it even.I stopped the ppi a couple weeks ago and my food started breaking down but I still get pain and bloating. My food would just sit there before. I started ox bile, betaine hcl, and ox bile today and a couple hours after dinner I’m feeling the same way. Is there something I should eliminate? Increase?I’m only taking one right before my first bite of food. Is this something that will take time to adjust to? I just need help and want to get regulated because I literally feel like I’m dying and Drs aren’t helping me.I’ve had diarrhea and egg yolk yellow diarrhea for years. When my stools aren’t runny, they can be brownish which I know is normal, but a LOT lately they’ve been pale yellow. When i throw up to relieve pressure and pain, there’s a lot of liquid with acid since stopping my ppi, but my food is breaking down better except for meat of any kind. Also sometimes I have to keep throwing up until I get bright yellow bile out, then the pain instantly stops. My GI says these symptoms make no sense. My colonoscopy/ endoscopy showed nothing at all except a small hiatal hernia. I’m tired of throwing money at all these Drs just to be put on ppi’s. 😊 Thank you!

      Hi Texas Girl, first of all, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling wtih all of this for so long. I presume you've been screened for infections by your GI, but have you ever run the GI MAP stool test or been tested for SIBO? The GI MAP often finds things that haven't been found before, and SIBO is a distinct possibility. THere are answers, they just haven't been looked for in the right way yet...

      @@ConfluenceNutrition I’ve had more blood tests than I can count, scans, colonoscopy, endoscopy, hepatitis tests, he took three biopsies of my stomach that came back clear, stool card samples… all normal. I had been diagnosed with diverticulitis three times and had it taken back during colonoscopy. I was told I had a small hiatal hernia and that it wasn’t causing my issues. I believe it was from throwing up for relief so often.I started thinking I may have bile reflux or gastroparesis even. He didn’t want to do an emptying study at all. I was told my liver enzymes were elevated. My gi didn’t even remember that I had my gallbladder out and every time I would tell him I believe it’s due to my gallbladder being gone and I think it’s a bile issue, he would brush me off and suggest another ppi. I decided to stop taking the ppi because I know it made things worse. I then started to break down food a bit better but still had the pain. 4 days ago I started taking digestive enzymes as well as two ox bile capsules when I ate. I jumped right into trigger foods which is bad I know, but I’m having zero issues digesting food without pain and bloat now. I’ve been able to eat everything and able to hold down my vitamins. I’m using the bathroom everyday also and my urine has gone from dark almost orange to clear/ light yellow. It was hard for me to keep my urine light in color before. Does it sound like I’m going in the right direction? I’ve had four whole days and nights of peace. I feel like a normal person. Now I’ll be able to eat the healthy things I wasn’t able to before. Should I question myself and results? Is there a chance I’m hurting myself somehow, somewhere? I’m tired of chasing Drs. Are these supplements too good to be true?

I answered your question on another video, but I'll say again here, I always suggest people start low and go slow with a new supplement to watch for problems, and only proceed to the recommended dose if it seems like you are tolerating it. I just started my son on a supplement that contains mastic gum for a H pylori protocol, and with the first dose, it improved his symptoms. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching! Excellent presentation. I tried taking 2 betaine hydrochloride tablets before a meal to see if that did anything, and it didn't do anything I could notice. But one SIBO guy said you need 5[!]. I don't know if low stomach acid is the cause of my bloating, however, I just tried it to see if it showed me anything. Also if it takes so damn many tablets to have an effect, why don't they make 'em with a higher dose?

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 роки тому

      Hi Henry, betaine HCL isn't like a medication, so would be unlikely to do much with just one meal. It's more of a low and slow approach, by supporting your stomach acid at each meal for 2-4 weeks to see how you respond. If you are diagnosed with SIBO, the newest research from Mark Pimentel shows that HCL increases hydrogen, so may make SIBO worse. It would be something to use AFTER successful treatment. Regarding tablet dosing, I'm not sure!

      Hi Benchmarks, if you're getting a slight burning sensation, this is usually a sign that your stomach lining may need some support before proceeding with stomach acid support. I had a very big spasm in my left side abdomen and I was under severe stress due to work and life, started having some reflux, went to a doctor, he told me it is an ulcer without even an endoscopy and gave me PPIs that I am still taking till today (month 5).
    I always cannot eat big/normal meals anymore, had complete loss of appetite, no desire to eat meat and my reflux is so bad if I try to force myself to just eat a bit more I will get nausea and it is hell for the rest of the day if I attempt just to eat my full meal and honestly I do smoke but like 6 cigarettes a day maybe that is a factor too.
    They keep telling me I have very severe reflux and must keep taking PPIs and I want to quit them but scared, I lost my appetite totally and I lost weight and the food sits there for hours and hours so I eat smaller meals and it made it a bit better but still I am not eating like a normal person anymore, limiting everything and heartburn is my friend at night. • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 роки тому

      Hi AK, any hypothesis is reasonable...so it is possible that low stomach acid is contributing to your symptoms...and the way to answer the question about whether it is or not is to do a small scale test with stomach acid support, and see if you feel better or not. If you feel worse, you likely DO have an ulcer, or at least gastritis. If you DO feel better, then there is the answer to your question. That said, it does sound like your symtoms are on the severe side, so you will want to change things slowly and carefully, and adjust things if you notice anything getting worse. I hope that helps.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition

      Hi Frequent Traveller, great question. I think it may be unique and different for each person, but I think the answer is neither...autoimmunity often goes along with autoimmunity. In other words, autoimmune problems tend to come in clusters. The autoimmune process is generally similar, and manifests in many ways. So people with thyroid autoimmunity often also have stomach autoimmunity, which damages the acid-producing cells in the stomach, leading to low stomach acid.
      If stomach autoimmunity is the problem, supplementing with stomach acid can help reverse the symptoms associated, but doesn't fix the autoimmune issue. We have to look at this more like: 'how can I reduce the inflammation, intestinal permeability, and immune activity that causing autoimmunity?' You can definitely dial down all these effects with the right diet and other actions. Does that answer your question? That was a long answer LOL!

    Excessive burping soon as i eat or drink is it a sign a low stomch acid !

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  3 роки тому +1

      It could be, or it could have other causes as well. Carefully tracking what happens when you introduce diet changes or remedies can help you understand what your body is telling you. For example, if you increase your stomach acid and the burping stops, that would be a strong indicator that your stomach acid was low. If this makes your symptoms worse, then it would indicate that excess acid is the problem. Alwasy come back to how your body is responding. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your question!

    Great video. I had my gallbladder out about a month in a half ago and i have changed my diet and have lost about 75 pounds in 5 months. My stomach does not feel good a lot and i mean like everyday. I have gotten over 25 blood tests done, stool tests, ultrasound, ct abdominal scan and also got tested for bacteria and parasites as well as allergies. Everything came back good but i can't figure out whats wrong with my stomach. It almost never feels good no matter what i eat. I talked to my surgeon and she said that it takes some ppl longer than others to get there stomach back to normal.

      When people lose their gall bladder, their fat digestion doesn't work as well as it used to becaues the "surge capacity" of the gall bladder isn't there anymore. SOmetimes people need bile salt support or extra lipase (digestive enzyme) to support fat digestion. This change in fat digestion can affect the gut microbiome, which can lead to more symptoms. SIBO infection is another possibility you may want to request assessment for...I hope you feel better soon!
