I finished 6 out of 8 goals on my list, so I'm pretty proud of myself! One of the two goals I missed was to release a Let's Play on my channel, but I didn't end up doing that because the time I had set aside to do it was taken by my job. However, I did release other videos during the summer, so I think I should get half a point for actually posting anything.

Heyyy Lixian! You're doing so awesome honestly :D I set out and accomplished exactly 0 of my 3 goals I had for this year (Although Nanowrimo is still ongoing ^^; Need to get on with that). As my Dad always says, at least progress has been made, and that's all that matters. I think I decided on Godot for my learning post Unity disaster, so fingers crossed that I can get myself working on that.
My goals for this year revolve around my ongoing aspirations, like last year.
1) Finish a fully developed story (Nanowrimo, please be this!)
2) Actually succeed in getting a better job
3) Actually learn enough about Godot to start building things without making the PC self-destruct.

Definitely don't be afraid to just post some vlogs/update ramble because this is great and motivating for myself to hear. Plus the humor makes me feel less discouraged about how I deal with my goals and progress (hint, it's the same lol).
I'd be hapy to watch a video of pretty much anything you're interested in Lix. You have a way of spreading your enthusiasm for a topic to your audience when you're excited about something.

My birthday is actually on the day that Unus Annus died, so it's like a birthday tradition for me to watch your goals video and reflect on my own every year.

I'd love to see more videos like the Unity one! I like "peek behind the curtain" videos that give insight into the methods and/or thought processes of creators and I think getting your POV on game dev (or editing! or animation!) would be really fun and interesting.
I love the concept of this video, trying to push yourself to reach higher goals each year while still being gentle and not beating yourself down. I’ve watched these updates for 2 years now and I like how you celebrate the things you accomplished and take fuel from the things you didn’t to make it better next year. Also if one goal wasn’t working you realize that and switch it.
I didn’t make goals last year because.. no energy and stuck. I’m gonna try this year though!
- Get a volunteer position somewhere in field of interest (forestry/nature)
- Go from being able to work 3 hrs at a time to 4 (chronic fatigue is a bitch)
- Reach working 4 days a week instead of 3
- Finish organizing my stuff. It’s been 2 years you’ve been working on this dude. Get. On. It.
- Get my drivers license!
There’s more of course but I don’t wanna be unrealistic and disappoint myself later. Here’s to hoping I get these done!

My goals this year also revolve around making a game:
Start learning to code
Start learning to animate
Make walking sprites for [game]
I made a goal earlier this year to work on my comic book and I promised I'll have something to show by Xmas next year, so I'm setting my goal to be have something close enough to release by this time next year in prep for an Xmas release. I lose track of time between each anniversary but I feel motivated to keep going.

Lixian I love your content no matter what it is, honestly. I enjoy hearing how you react to things, the way you think and just your way of speaking. You're an interesting person! I'm in a similar boat. Except mine has a couple bigger cracks than yours. I planned to take a vocal course this year. Bought one, watched the intro vids/warm up exercises portion and that's about it. Also wrote a couple more lyrics for my concept album that has gotten so massive that I could write a whole trilogy of novels, but I don't know how to start. I'm great at writing essays, reviews (other nonfiction things) and not super great at fiction. Or maybe I am, idk. I'm great at coming up with ideas for stories, but my ADHD addled brain only allows short bursts of creating.
Self depreciation aside, my goals continue to be as followed:
1. Continue to flesh out and create the story that has been in my head for a year and a half now
2. Take and complete the vocal course.
3. Determine if I have the ability to create and produce the music I wish to create.
Technical death metal is out of my league given I don't have great hand eye coordination, but I may be able to using a midi and the right plug in.

I completed a huge RP project this year that I committed to on the deathiversary last year. Presented the whole thing to our writing group over the last weekend of October and it felt amazing! This year my goals are: finish degree, start next project, learn how to use sewing machine?? We'll see about that last one.

Well any goals I might’ve had were kind of uprooted when I got fired from my full-time job, and then I took up my part-time job that I was doing on the side as full-time, moved house, and started living on my own. But I have big dreams for this the remainder of this year and next year, and I hope some of those will be completed.
My goals for the upcoming year: 1. Read at minimum 5 books completely, 2. learn about photography, 3. try to make a friend or two (I'm a little embarrassed putting that last one out there, but maybe my courage in doing so will keep me inspired and motivated!)
Honestly I just find your content and editing style comforting. Often I watch videos I know you edited or I watch your livestreams to relax. You’re just a very comforting person so any content you make I will enjoy :) could be talking about your own games or whatever has your attention at the point.

Buuut.... I did actually organise a D&D-Group as DM out of my friends and it's going great, sooooo. That's a win.
And, I have done some other cools things. Had experiences. Went to Paris. Saw my favorite band in an amazing location with a really small crowd of people. It wasn't a bad year, for sure.
Sometimes the things we end up doing are just not the things we initially thought we'd set out to do.
Not sure what new goals I should set for myself tbh. Get my stuff together and do what I meant to do and move the hell out. Then we'll see.

i cant remember nor find where i put my last year goals, so im putting them here now:
1.- Make at least one chapter of the comic I've been postponing
2.- Finally move out
3.- Finish the ISWM animatic I've been working on for 2 years

You inspire me, I wasn't doing any art or creative projects because I thought I needed BIG "Inspiration", a "muse", a "spark" but now I just try to put a little bit everyday of my ideas and thoughts on paper, pc docs just somewhere and stop waiting for the "BIG one" to hit me. "Small, seemingly insignificant steps taken each day, HAVE COLOSSAL RESULTS in the long run." -Lixian 2022 lol also "Just reading two pages a day, JUST TWO, not ten, not a chapter, not an entire book, just two" -Lixian 2022 this help me also finishing reading Good Omen, was very happy getting that done, Thank you Lixian.
I love listening to your thoughts and methods of creation. I love behind the scenes content, and finding out how people process and plan things out. Plus... everything is content!
They're dead they can't care, that is great. 🤣 Also super awesome that you are making games! I just finished my Masters in Game Design! But I didn't understand much on the Unreal Engine part. I do mainly asset work and writing/narrative/concept work, so it makes sense to me how your goals sometimes don't get met, but the important thing is that you are trying!
I think for my personal goals I wanna start simple
1) actually start working out
2) put more time into my hobbies like art and baking
but if I'm REALLY shooting for the stars, I wanna open up an etsy shop to sell fandom related art like charms, and pins.

I incline to help someone who is inspiring me to keep going, i have suggestion on Goal 3; to make Vlogs.
Hear me out, it's not a daily vlog. it should be something important and under a minutes. This range from "Lixian checking up with his baby & family" to "Going to pharmacy for medicine" to "What I prep before working/streaming" . If it's too personal and don't want to included them, understandable.
I want a reminder for me and everyone that Lixian is a real living person, that he has a life outside these videos. He been juggling being Mark's editor, editing his own channel videos, game developer, soundtrack composer and also a father!
Precious baby Lix! Family and self-care priority #1! Knowing that Lixian doing fine, i can safely enjoy when his new video uploaded.

I beefed up my goals for the year;
1.Daily Instagram posts to keep myself engaged
2. A monthly illustration (plus a bonus one to work on a bit each month for a total of 13)
3. And while I did this last year, and succeeded, I'm aiming for ANOTHER 13 new experiences.

Oh yeah new goals maybe Ill add the sub goals back who knows but yeah if I really work at it I think I could do 1 1/2 episodes of my animation, read 15 books, make 20 comics, and keep a regular upload schedule of a video every 2 weeks(if possible). Hmm... 2023 goals. I actually managed to complete many this time around: Finally completed footage of all Raskulls ranks, benchmarked 3/4 of the GPUs for ChaosX Project 06 with an APU missing before I could make the final video, Installed Linux Mint on my laptop which was a complete success and I'm playing Minecraft 1.19.4 Optifine in 50% 900p=1131x636 fullscreen-not bad for an NVS 2100M, I tested the Xbox 360's passive 3D on a BD3D2MK3D encoded SBS 3D MP4/ASF with great success, and I replaced the crap YAS 207 with the ATS 1030... Oh and I'm getting a driver's license along with my first ROOT CANAL.
The way that you edit is a staple and it’s funny how a Lixian video is alike a mark vid in so many ways

I'm so glad you are committed. I'll be honest. It's been so long since Unus Annus ended, that I'm starting to forget what it was like. I definitely do not feel the same kind on inspiration to do something with my year, as I did in the start. But I'm still quoting Unus annus bits and chugging along with a few of my goals.
1 - Keep focusing on my health - I've been making great strides this year. I need to keep on top of that.
2- Contiue writing. - ... I still havn't started on an offical book ... but my fics are well recieved. So I'll continue to work on them, and improve on my writing.
Also, to be honest, if you're passionate about something and you make a video about it. I'm going to enjoy it. I follow a lot of random people on youtube, from a guy with a septic pump business, a guy who unclogs rural drains for fun, to all kinds of other random things. I'm an artist, all I care about is the passion for the work. You have that, you always seem to have that. Idk how, but we respect that. ok Lixian? ♥

I didn't have any plans for the Unus Annus anniversary, but actually decided to make my New Year's Resolution for 2024 to release my first full actual game...
This has been literally the first ever New Year's Resolution I have completed and I also did it while learning Godot. :)
My theme for the year was "something different" and for good and bad, I met those goals. I moved to live with/near a couple of friends at the start of the year, but it took me longer than I'd like to admit to find a job in the surrounding area. I had more freedom to make some video games with friends and flex the game dev degree I got a couple of years ago, but I still can't land any sort of programming job at all (likely because my portfolio is severely lacking in non-video game related projects, and game dev is not a viable job where I live). I do have a couple of paid jobs, but they're both low pay and/or temporary, and I'm not 100% guaranteed the temp job I have lined up for the winter, assuming I continue through with it at all.
Realistically I needed to get a stable job the second I moved (ideally *before* I moved) and grinded things out from there, but I also don't regret taking the steps I did this year. My previous living situation wasn't the greatest, and where I am now is a step up. This year has been more of an adjustment period for me, and as bad as things got, I'm trying to hold onto hope that I will be in a better position by this time next year. Good on you for keeping up with your goals Lixian, these vids are a good way to push me to set higher goals for myself for next year. I won't just survive, next year I will thrive.
Tip(?): I think what's happening, and I have done this a lot, is put time constraints on things you aren't sure the duration it'll take. I did this with art, and not just art but entire art pieces. I'd give myself 1-2.5 hours to get it done, when in reality, what I needed was to do that, buuuut not do it with entire art pieces. I decided I would time myself with basic sketching, and even though I already know how to sketch well, I realized a process that was wayyy faster when I put a 15-30 time limit to sketching basic poses and expressions. And from there I was able to keep moving up: doing lineart in 40 minutes, then flat colors, then cell shading. It really helped me work through each process one at a time.
It could be different for creating games especially since the process is very involved, but perhaps taking time to understand how to do the basics in a good amount time might make your foundation to the next game more robust (or something like this, like I said it's probably different).
