In fog: it's so comforting
Yeah I thought that too. Being underwater or in the clouds freaks me out. I literally won't even go in a pool in real life. I've a shoulder injury that messes up my arm's range of motion & thus I can't swim, but even if I could I'd still feel scared being in water, even just up to my waist since I have seizures that are random (not epileptic) & I could drown.
Well, you can’t exactly die because of fog itself. But you can drown in water (but I mean, something can come *out* of the fog)

@@DesolateLavender Exactly. In the water, especially under water, there are so many directions something crazy could come from. Also, the oceans are widely unexplored. Having my kind of luck, I'd stumble over the last megalodon while stupidly splashing around as I do.
@@TessiSue And on land the worst you could get is something like a mountain lion or a bear. Not saying those aren't scary, but at least I'm in my habitat. Aka LAND!

I volunteered at a haunted house nearby a few years ago and I was a weeping angels in a maze set with tons of other angel statues and one other weeping angel actor. There were also these crazy strobe lights. We scared the living shit out of people :) Lots and lots of screaming

Surprisingly I was only scared 3 times in Resident Evil 2. I was scared when Mr X came up behind me. I was scared on the dark areas of the sewers because I couldn’t see under. And I was scared of the final G stage.

Hey Lixian,
I totally get the “panic freeze” moments when I see those large, scary and unexpected sites/ moments in games and movies. I like to think of it similar to being frightened by this Lovecraftian monsters like Cthulhu.
I believe this fear of things larger than you is called "megalophobia" (sorry idk how to spell it lol)

Huh, my parents let me play mature games but never Silent Hill level of scary. Though they did let me play less scary horror games. I'm 31 now & just fine mentally. I don't hurt people (unless they hurt me or a friend, then I hurt them), don't want to shoot anyone despite playing tons of shooters & having over 12 guns including an AK which is my favorite despite not being the most accurate of them. I don't want to get into magic despite playing lots of games where you use magic.
Those psychological "links" parents claimed existed between a violent game & real life violence have been proven false by psychologists & by people like myself. Yet you'll have such wimpy parents who make stupid claims forever.
That doesn't mean I'll let my non existent 2 year old play horror games though.

My scariest moment in gaming was in Subnautica. I was exploring around the back of the Aurora, looking for some sort of material, I don't remember what it was specifically. I knew it was dangerous and I knew what beast lurked in the water with me. I was armed with a stasis rifle. I subconsciously had it in my mind that I would hear it before I saw it, but this was simply not the case. Out of nowhere, without making a sound, a Reaper Leviathan came from behind me and attacked, suddenly roaring at me and holding me with its mandibles. This surprised me so much that I screamed and accidentally took a screenshot. Afterward, I hung that screenshot of the reaper attacking me on the wall of my base, in the bedroom I created. Every time I looked at it, I was reminded of that terrifying moment. Eventually, I went back and killed that reaper, armed with only a stasis rifle and a heat blade.
Asher Cat I was scared before I even started the game and quit before I even got killed I was that afraid, I saw the beast and though “nope nope nope leave nope leave nope nope leave leave nope” and that was the moment I nearly shot everything through my stomach down into my intestines nearly pushing the food through there in 1.5 seconds and right into my pants

Diamond tipped is better, my scariest moment was when I was in the kelp forest next to the thrusters of the Aurora in the old unfinished version before the Lost river. I was in a cyclops and just ever so silently, a reaper swam through the cockpit of the cyclops while I was driving. I just say a massive blue thing come through the window what it was. Spoopy
Play some escape from tarkov and have a med station key in your inv. And then walk into dorms, and then a guy shows up and shoots you. You will scream and then cry because you lost the key.
The ghost leviathan is beautiful, but the first time i found crater's edge i got so anxious i had to look away from the computer for a while

Tbh when you first experience it, the whole thing really catches you off guard. The music is unsettling, the laughter, the eye opening sequence, the sheer abruptness of fight or flight gameplay, it really makes for a good first time scare and anxiety inducing moment.

Lixian does have an unique accent and I kinda like it. I'm from the same country and my accent when I speak english is a bit different. It's interesting to see how much the influences from our upbringings shaped our accents for a second language.

My mom and I played jaws unleashed all the time when I was younger, super fond memories of that game! Thanks for bringing it up! :)
Just to share, my most terrifying moment was the start of amnesia machine of pigs, I don't know why or how, but the setting managed to make me feel bad, bad as if I was sick, It is embarrassing to know that I was scared in the first minute of the game without even having seen an enemy, and it was not a screamer, it was that kind of fear that is not audible, but is so intense that you feel as if you were sick.

my scariest gaming moments were in evil within 1 and 2. in the first game you are in this building with a doctor. you walk in and some object move. then. outta the blue. you get hit. i had absolute no idea what it was from i quote on quote “panic freezed”. then you realize. it’s an INVISIBLE ENEMY. WHAT. then, in evil within 2. the scariest moment for me was in the beginning of the game. stefano takes a cute photo of you and hangs it on a mirror. you go to look at it and see something in the reflection. you turn around and there’s nothing there. then BOOM. big chainsaw lady blasts through the mirror and you have to run. gosh. i screamed so loud. 😭😭😭

I once watched an LP on SH4, and when he got to that part and saw the face there was just.... A pause. Silence. Then he just walked out of the room and Nope'd away from that situation and it was the funniest thing to me.
I agree with you a little bit on Far Cry 3, those crocs are nasty jumpscares... but for me, it was the mission where you enter the lab on the north island. It's a one-off mission but I half expected to start fighting zombies partway through it and was scared the whole time... especially when Mr. RandomBear attacked me.

The Joy of Creation Story Mode was TERRIFYING when I started playing... the first night where your in a dark bedroom as a 4 year old with GIANT FREAKING CONTORTED HAUNTED ROBOTS staring at you was so spoopy for me (I was 12 I believe). The second I started I paused the game looked over at my friend and was like, “I CaN’T dO tHiS mAn!!!”

So I don''t play a lot of spooky games, but I remember playing Dark Souls: the Journal years ago. Very spooky game, more on the subtle side, but the intro scared the crap out of me. Basically it starts with you the player getting a voice mail from your brother and he mentions some spooky stuff going on. Then his voice slows down and he starts whispering "It's right outside the door", repeating it over and over before saying "I've got to open the door". Then you hear the squeaky door open and this weird wind sound, then silence.
