Watched Bruce's steam and noticed that the bleepy bloops sounded wrong on a game I hadn't played in 20 years. Glad to know that brain storage space was being used for something useful.
I caught it immediately too in a gameplay video I watched. Glad I didn’t day one buy it, but that goes for all games now. It’s odd that someone put in the time to change something so minuscule yet iconic. It doesn’t affect the overall game but it is something most gamers remember distinctly growing up. That’d be like changing the pitch of the Halo menu music, or Mario’s “yahoo”. It just doesn’t make sense.
The moment I heard that I knew something was wrong, realised this wasn't made by people who cared.
I'm wondering if it had something to do with efforts of data saving in the good ol' days of squeezing stuff onto things where what we're hearing is the single sample the original used, but _without_ reference to whatever code issued the apparently iCoNiC shifts in pitch that allowed usage of that single sample instead of multiple samples for each individual action. The same thought can be applied to trooper voices, as well. I'm not a dev, so apologies if that technique has a name and I'm essentially just going "ay I KNOW that girl from somewhere..."

IG Crew, I just want to say *thank you* for listening to the respectful comments expressing why people were disappointed with that previous video. I understand your line that you draw in the sand, but showing that you were willing to listen to actual well worded feedback and actual discussion, and allow that conversation to happen without, as many feared, come down with a comment purge against ones that actually had substance and context and weren't of a harassing nature. Really, there are those of us who appreciate it.

After seeing all of the comments about "you left out the Kotaku article!" I couldn't help but think that when it comes to the larger story "who cares?" A journalist who lashed out against other (also disagreeable comments) is so irrelevant to the entire story. It's not about they said/they said, it's about one company and their influence or lack of influence. Why would in independant Kotaku journalist's article change anything?

Problem with remakes is companies under invest, I think they often have a mindset like - the game is already done just upscale some textures and sell it.
Every time I see a bad launch I just imagine a dev telling his/her manager that it isn't ready yet, and then upper management basically going, don't care ship it anyways.

Im a big advocate of let people do what they want if they're not harming or harassing anyone. That goes for both parties. People have the right to make whatever they want, but people also have the right to not want to play it.

@@Spectrum0122 they didn't have to say anything at all and people would have forgotten about them. Sure they poked a little fun but they acknowledged that what their critics said had validation. Lawrence even flat out said he hates when a game is narratively talking AT him. Even if they don't believe that this is as big a deal as people are making it out to be, they still at least understand at some level why some people are upset

Just before the Collection was announced, I installed the old game, ran around for a few hours, and had an absolute blast. Never needed the pile of hot garbage that is this re-release.
I've heard Aspyr isn't even working on KOTOR anymore. Its changed hands a few times.
Probably good that they're not on it anymore, but unfortunately development hell is still development hell. I'll be surprised if we get the game at this point. Thankfully the original hasn't gone anywhere yet.

I've never gotten around to playing the OG Battlefront games. I tried some years ago when I bought a Star Wars collection that included OG BF 1and 2, Republic Commando, and I think 2 other games. I gave up on the BFs because I could never get it to launch.
my problen with the whole gamer gate thing is the fact that it isn't hard to think about why it doesn't really matter. like youre really telling me i have to be upset that in the year 2024 when there is war in europe and the middle east that could end world trade as we know it i need to be concerned that a bunch of business executives are trying to do what they always do with media, try to pander harder for new audiences. They could give a shit about DEI, no, what they actually care about is making sure they can make it is profitable as possible by making every single lifestyle an oversimplified and shallow but "empowering" narrative which is why it always feels preachy, its the only way business suits think they can keep turning over new players or readers or watchers. This issue upsets me because we're ignoring how the lazy writing of executive commanding college English majors so we can yell at trans and gay people for being pandered too when they never really asked to be commodified with target clothing brands and AAA games, but they end up the target of harassment and intimidation any time gamers decide every piece of media they consume isn't allowed to challenge a single facet of the world their mommy told them about when they were a child.
Social security might not exist by the time you retire why the fuck do I have to be upset about a jeff bezos type telling their writers to "make it more gay" or whatever when i can't even be sure my trans friends are going to safely get home at night because of the blind and self-righteous attitude of these "the west has fallen" sniveling sheltered children. The games just not optimised. It shouldn't be 60GB. It's insane. These studios that get these responsibilities to enhance these classics are really not prepared for the challenge. They're clearly not given the resources for a project like this.

The issue is that SBI did have DEI as part of their mission statement on their own website and have just recently removed it in the current fallout.
There is no real issue with being a DEI consultant however trying to hide that they are leads people to believe there is something more nefarious happening behind the scenes.

It's sorta like the GTA 3 remasters right? It's barely a game, thousands of people buy it, they make their money and they move on. As long as we keep doing it, it's the easiest way for them to make money. There's no reason for them to do better.

I pre-ordered the battlefront collection on switch and the lag is easily the biggest issue I've had with the collection so far while the stuff like the down pitched audio lines and the LOUD crunch explosions (that one I've only seen once) still pop up I hope they fix the games super fast and add an option to pair up and stay with friends in matches but I'm still having fun with the games because the OG battlefront games are fantastic and show that just because a game is old doesn't mean they're bad since they're fun AF even in 2024 who would've guessed games made 20(BF1) and 19(BF2) years ago and made to be fun are fun games
It’s been a personal rule of mine for several years now to never buy games at launch unless they are one of the rare exceptions of a game releasing in a working state. Games are like cars now. You should never buy the first model year of a car generation because typically they have recalls and mechanical defects. Usually it’s best to wait a couple years and then buy after the kinks are ironed out. Same goes for games now. Never buy at launch, devs seem to think it’s ok to launch a game and use the customers as beta testers. The only bad thing is that sometimes they never do fix the game. So you’re stuck with a $60-$70 investment that you can’t even play.
FYI, Steam still sells "Classic" SW:BF 1 & 2 and they work really well with online multiplayer and tonnes of mods
Games being released broken has been going on since 360/PS3 and has continuously got worse since it started, that was nearly twenty years ago. It amazes me that people are still buying games on release.

I don't think it's fair to say that they didn't have a big impact on game's story. Wasn't a Sweet Baby person a junior script writer and coordinator on Suicide Squad? Four Sweet Baby employees were writers on the Story Team. That doesn't sound like almost no impact.

It's funny/sad how I expected BF remaster to be one of those "hyped up" releases that would die in a week because nobody wants to actually play those old outdated games, but it kinda turned out to be opposite. It just might die out because people want to play it but can't.
I actually got into multiplayer for BF1 first try and realized I need some practice. So I did a little campaign to learn the controls again. By around the 30 minute playtime mark, I wasn't able to get back in. Then I read about the server issues and got the refund. They should have had SOME metric that they needed more servers than what was available. Don't think I'll go back.

My 2 cents is that the reason a lot of gamers hate woke topics isn't because they're bigoted, rather because a lot of high profile bad stories and writings seem to have a lot of progressive/woke themes (either because the people who wrote them are bad at their job and use diversity as a clutch or because the people who wrote them care more about pushing their agenda than writing a good story). Unsurprisingly, people will correlate progressive themes and diversity as bad writing. Whenever you see a character that isn't white and doesn't has to be white (i.e. the character isn't a historical figure or was based off of some media franchise) you will now have to think "Oh DEI."

As someone who owns all the aspyre star wars games, they had really built up alot pf good faith. KOTOR 1-2 on mobile was fantasic like 10 years ago, then rereleasing Jedi Outcast/Academy with multiplay was fantasic, being able yo replay Star Wars Racer with my kids was like the best for a few weekends, Republic Commando and Kotor were flawless, then KOTOR2 my favorite star wars game was announced with the dlc i was hyped, i pussed my wife off cuz i wouldnt stfu about it. Then it released and i bought it day 1, then preordered the limited run version of the game, and when they cancelled the DLC i was heartbroken, i held onto hope for so long, i was super disappointed, then battlefront collection was announced and i was hesitant after KOTOR2, but I preordered it, i mean this will be a return to form right simple uprez, no major changes, multiplayer they have done this before.... Apperently they couldnt, and i am done, if they do any more star wars games i will be waiting to purchase them. I hope the next company that handles star wars retro games will showore care with the games they are making. Also really hope someone does a really good Rogue Squadron collection been waiting like 20 years for that. Thanks love you guys!
It's entirely okay to report on the news with a predefined bias, in fact, it's commendable even. No source of news is 100% unbiased, and no source of news should claimed to be. All you need to be is be transparent about these biases. Yes this may upset people, but that's why it's commendable, because you chose to give your opinions on the things you believe in, and you don't pretend like your analysis is the definitive take for a given topic

Kira was able to find facts. Sweet Baby are explicitly listed as lead writers on projects they claim to have no executive agency over.
What will be frustrating is that there will be the apologists once the games are fixed. As if that makes it alright but, until we stop supporting bad practices of releasing incomplete or poor products, this will continue to happen.

i remember trying to understand gamergate at it's peak, Snapped out of it when i was halfway through reading leaked dms between Zoe and an X bf, i realized "what the in frick does this have to do with gaming?" through all the brain fog what i can recall was Zoe won some indie award via a judge who was having an affair with her? then was sleeping with a "journalist" who gave positive coverage of her game so gamersᵀᴹ in very typical vocal fashion proclaimed they should have known beforehand that it's about "ethics in gaming journalism" and somehow expecting these people having Secret Affairs to admit to the public beforehand or something? lol at the time i thought maybe don't trust or engage with that indie award show or said journalist? but the internet being the internet couldn't let it go i guess, but nobody involved deserved death threats over that just simply lost credibility and a sturn "go to horny jail" meme
and the whole Anita Sarkeesian kerfuffle she appeared primarily agaisnt women constantly being damsels in distress in games which is fine however later took large amounts of crowdfunding to make videos with incorrect information i think the main one that set it off was her take on Zelda being helpless while not mentioning Sheik and later admitting she wasn't a fan of games? naturally the gamersᵀᴹ went excessive mode again and held Anita and Zoe up as some sort of boogeywoman of the "feminist gaming apocalypse"
when in reality her and Zoe seem to be morally questionable people at worst but didn't deserve that sheer volume of deaththreats.

as to battlefront i bought it but haven't installed it, as bruce said hopefully it gets patched up but if it isn't in around a month or so ill just refund it, real shame it's rare to experience a large multiplayer base hop onto such an old game, especially back in the day i didn't have internet on my ps2 for mp anyway, on the old steam version it still had the odd server but never remotely full
Whether you agree or not that's generally how it works for people with strong opinions on something that doesn't necessarily need to be a big deal. It happens on both "sides" but people that don't have any real facts or reason just use the easy method of threats & hatred to stir a response & get it "their way".
Sure some people do sketchy things in business but some people act like everyone has to act like a saint lest they be "cancelled" & the others just hate so they can feel validated by others for their hatred.

I appreciate the follow up on Gamergate 2, I've only been keeping up slightly with it so when I saw the comments last time I was wondering what I was missing
I will say this. The game had some quirks on start up, trouble recognizing controlers, etc, but once we got that figured out, i fell right back into my 15 year old habits of not going anywhere near online play and just hopping into some instant action couch multi-player, and the only major bug I'd noticed, in game, was one of the weapon slot images while playing as Obi-Wan was kind of misplaced on the screen. Aside from that the only issue I had was that my sibling kept winning.
It seems like a majority of issues are stemming from the fact that it's a port of a 20 year old game that was never made to handle the stresses that gamers put their games through in an modern online gaming experience. That's not excusing the issues, moreso explaining them. Aspyr should have done their testing and their due-diligence to make sure that the port would be ready for prime time and that is a huge failing on their part. But as someone who pre-ordered the game, not intending to play online and only experiencing 1 or 2 bugs but a ton of nostalgia, I wouldn't call it wasted money. I think they should knock the price down a bit for sure if they aren't going to fix the issues, but aside from that, I'm gonna be screaming at the top of my lungs that my sister is screen peeking while I destroy her frigates shields just like I was 20 years ago. No refund needed.

Aspyr did an okay job releasing a bunch of the old games in as is format, albeit some features were cut, like on the switch multiplayer is cut a lot of the time. They are not developing KOTOR remake anymore after being incompetent, so this is probably part of that incompetence.

Aspyr really went with the "It's so dense, every single image has so much going on" defense for their port that Rick McCallum had for why the Phantom Menace is a ̶c̶o̶m̶p̶l̶e̶x̶ terrible movie.

Thanks for adding more on the GG 2.0 stuff. One of the things that spun up the original GG into the many headed beast it was is, to a greater lesser extent, due to heavily distorted reporting on what was happening. No one came out looking lily-white in the original GG and the fact poor reporting, intentional or not, was a big part of that, it means much that you're back on here adding some more info to the mix. Still love you guys and the stuff you do. 💗
