Thanks for posting this video, and sharing some insights into your thought processes. I enjoyed that, as well as seeing all the different horses, and hearing your observations. Interesting and enjoyable. I'll be looking forward to future videos.
I think Miracle is my favorite foxtrotter Mare you have. I've never ridden a foxtrotter before. I've ridden Tennessee walkers and Peruvian Pasos and they were fun but only good for the trail. No jumping no Dressage or pleasure. Pasos don't canter or gallop under saddle. I like Oliver. There is a man on Utube who has a beautiful Shire stallion that he rides Dressage. Apollo the Shire, I like him.
From Australia, I love this channel. The horses are so beautiful and your horsemanship is inspiring. If I was in the USA I would be buying one of your horses.Actually two or three really. ;-)
About color, I boarded with a gal that had to have ONLY chestnuts. She was always wondering why things happened. I mean I get drawn in by color first but their breeding, mind and body have to speak volumes too. It's not just about color.
When you mentioned the horse was out of Legend just some friendly advice for your subscribers! He should have said the horse was By ( Legend/ Sire) and out of (whatever mare). Hopefully, this helps when you are describing horses in the future?
“The best colour is DO”. Meaning what they can and will do for you’d what matters. This was my Grandpa’s favourite saying. Does the rail stay up better if a palomino hits it compared to a sorrel?
@@homesteadhorsemanship That was the most western rider answer to an English rider’s comment 😆😆 There are rarely palominos in show jumping and we call them chestnuts vs sorrel. (Just want to clarify I am NOT making fun of you, just having fun. Said with respect) Edited to add: I agree with you about color. Usually the top horses in any riding discipline are the most boring looking.
@@oldageisdumb I love watching jumping--all sorts--and it's hard for me to think of any of these exceptional equine athletes as "dull looking," no matter what their color. Black, brown, chestnut, grey now and then, but probably not American breed colors...or National Velvet's Pie!
It won’t be a deal breaker for a horse for an individual but if you are looking to resell for a profit it will limit your potential customers. As I said there is no one that will not buy a horse because it’s not branded but there are people that won’t buy one because it is branded. Especially the type that I am trying to sell. Fancy pleasure horses.
Yeah, a brand wouldn't stop me from buying. I don't think you should think it would not resale. It may even sell better, depending on the brand ( ranch)
Hi, just trying to get a few opinions from experts. It's a while off but in future I'm planning on moving to Nevada. What do you think about the government sponsored wild horse auctions? I have obviously taken into account that these horses are wild and unhandled. I'm asking if you have any advice or personal experience in these types of auctions. I would be attending the auctions because I wouldn't buy a horse sight unseen.
Please excuse my ignorance, but was hoping you might explain why brands are a turn off? In the English world horses are usually only branded upon acceptance into a breed registry, by the breed itself. So once the horses has passed it’s inspection, the breed registry itself will brand the foal. It’s looked at as quite a desirable thing. So obviously this is my ignorance here on other types of branding and would love some education.
With Missouri Foxtrotters, you rarely ever see a branded horse, especially in there show ring etc. This was a Gaited horse auction, all the horses were MFT’s or at least gaited, so to see a horse with a brand at this auction was a bit odd and a rarity. We were looking for a horse to train and someday make a trail horse/family horse, so to have a random brand on horse, and no explanation for it, doesn’t benefit us or the horse in value or meaning. We have friends with quarter horses and they do brand and it is common for the horses of their breed to be branded. Definitely doesn’t apply to all breeds etc and it is probably more of a personal opinion more then anything.
A friend and I took 2 horses to a local rodeo, we had the horses tied behind the arena, we went to lunch and when re came back our horses were gone! Law enforcement said if they had been branded they probably would not have been stolen! Also what bragging right would you have if you owned a 6666 branded horse?!
No we didn’t but I wanted it! Lol It was beautiful on her☺️ We have a mare we will be selling this spring for trials. She has quite a few videos up on our channel, her name is April.
Congrats on Miracle! I have driven past the Cowboy Church Mutiple times! Maybe I will see Ya around some day! Happy I found your Channel! I subscribed! Also, one question, do you guys have greys? If you do, how do you clean them? I have a Gray, she gets SO dirty then I clean her but then there are dirt stains. I really need help on how to remove the dirt Stains.
Hey, thanks for subscribing!! We don’t currently have a gray but palominos aren’t much better! We usually just you’ll use hair and main shampoo and a bit of dawn dish soap and SCRUB lol. in the past, in whites or like ok white stockings we have used a blue shampoo, I don’t remember the brand but you could just search. Maybe try white n brite or a bright if shampoo.
I have 2 horses that are branded 1 is a yearling the other is my 11 year old. I don’t care that they are branded the yearling has the ranches symbol on him the other has a bunch of numbers probably because he was a stud for & years of his life. I don’t mind if horses are branded or not I just want horses I can ride and that I feel comfortable riding
Yes true. I’m just talking about training a high end valuable horse to sell as a finished trained horse and the possibility of the brand impacting price
@@homesteadhorsemanship yeah I know what you mean my yearling is a registered quarter horse breed to run both his parents have amazing papers but I don’t plan on ever selling him and if I do I don’t really care about price I just care if he goes to a good home
the tail structure+hair length is obviously that of an older horse and not yearlings. check teeth as well and yes I DONT like branded horses and wont buy a branded horse unless it is a BLM mustang or a Lipizzaner from the Spanish riding schools. ps I dont like it when people bid up prices of animals when they are not going to buy them. like the video.
Thank you for posting this. I have such a hard time understanding what the price is at auction. The auctioneer doing his rambling thing is hard to follow for me. Maybe with time I’ll understand it better
I’m not sure I understand the objection to buying a horse that has been branded? Certainly, that must be quite common. What difference does it make? It’s superficial.
It is superficial but I have to take into account resale value. I want them to go to good homes with people who will pay a lot for a well trained horse. This brand could be a turn off to those buyers. Brands are common for other breeds but it is not part of our breeds culture
Im just thinking how are you really making a profit when you have to feed them for two or three years before you can sell them? And why don't you want a horse that is branded? Genuinely wanting to know idk anything about branding
Why would branding be an issue? No one I've ever been around has ever had an issue with it or seen it as something bad. It's just like lip tattoos or microchipping
I dont care what says on her pappers, but I wish you would stop calling them with white marking Sabino s because a Sabino is arabian. So what are you saying that these horse have arabian in them. She is a pinto. Not a Sabino.
Sad to know so many unwanted horses are out there. The average horse gets bought and sold every 2 to 3 years. Not all those homes are good, loving homes. Please stop unnecessary breeding.
Who is to define unnecessary? Humane society is pushing this narrative that breeding is bad but demand for good horses is higher than ever and without breeding different lines breeds like the Missouri Foxtrotter could be lost for ever. I wish every good foxtrotter mare would get bred this year.
Why is that horse tied with loose horses in the pen? And why do the horses have dangerous access to the dirty water? Big guy riding a two-year-old... shame! I know that is normal in the US but I hate to see it. Lame by the time he is 10.
JR doesn’t ride a horse that’s not strong enough to carry him. He does ground work with them; his two daughters also train horses & would be the ones riding. It’s quite a process, watch more of his videos 😊
So glad I found you. Its so nice to see someone who does gaited horses. Thank you!

You went home with the best horse there. You are blessed and so is she!
So glad I saw the auction in which you acquired Miracle, and that she went to family. Such a beauty.
What a stunning horse you got! She’s gorgeous, how nice for you and lucky for her.
Fascinating process. Beautiful animals. I like how you explain your reasoning processes and analysis of the creatures' conditions and potential.
Beautiful looking horse you bought. Looking forward to some videos of her in the near future. Thanks again for the videos, really enjoying them.

Teeth don't lie, check their teeth. Often a brand will show a horse's birth provenance, that shouldn't be a deal breaker especially if it's well bred.
