I appreciate how you are calm and business-like about appraising the horse that go through auction. I do run across other videos where people cry and get super emotional at auctions and those are less informative.

They just want your money 😁 In recent years a whole new business model has evolved for traders. Buy the most pitiful looking horses at smaller regional sales and take them to bigger sales that rescues attend and inflate the prices artificially. It is on my list of videos to make in the future!

Pretty please with sugar on top. Add a donation button. Its a take it or leave it option. It allows those that support your mission. It might only be a few dollars. But if all people. A little here and a little there makes a big difference!!

Enjoy your ongoing narrative/overview of what you are seeing--quick impressions in the quality of the care, sale/barn/pen conditions, AND of course, the horses. Appreciate the auctioneers & handlers' professional calm. It's still an auction & merchandise, but they demonstrate it can be respectful. It's a smart business strategy. You know & process so much 'data' so fast--mentally multitask & retain detail. And, w the YT videos, slow down & gracious for us viewers. It's always interesting--except feel kinda bad: you do all the work.

Remind me to not take my credit card to one of these. I have never owned a horse but I did have the opportunity to learn to ride on nice horses when I worked on a big thoroughbred horse ranch. Galloping a nice quarter horse across an open field remains to this day as one of the most exciting and purely joyful things I have ever done!

It is so refreshing to see a quality auction with beautiful horses. You're right that the videos of sick and hurt horses at slaughter auctions seems way more available--and it's great that people are working to rescue and rehab horses--but it's lovely to see well bred and cared for horses. Even a layman can see so much potential in these babies!

I wanted the last mare. She was poco bueno king fritz bred. Dangit. I have wanted to go to the Weaver sale forever. You did a really good job showing how their sale went. P.S. I already have a nine-year-old black mare bred poco bueno king fritz so another one seems redundant, but maybe not, hard to find.

    • @SaltySouthTexan
      @SaltySouthTexan 11 місяців тому +1

Poco Bueno was a good line of horses. I won the AQHA 2 year old geldings in 1985 with a palomino out of King. Man this brings back memories of a different time and a different life….now I’m knee deep in showing market lambs and helping kids with that. Horses are much easier…..weaver has some nice working horses that seem to be bred to work and not just for Halter classes. Anything with PeptoBoonsmall or Docs Little Lena is a good one too……I’m waiting for her to rear back and buy one we can watch develop.

CC, are these horses in the production sale sold by Weaver Ranch at the Fairgrounds? I was looking at your show schedule which had that name + the name of the horse? Is that Montana?
These mares and foals were so healthy and happy looking. That $24,000 mare at the beginning was magnificent. My dad once paid $10 for an Appy who was huge, back in the day.

@@TheCleverCowgirl Thanks so much, CC; many of us would be your "personal sales" customers as your details on these magnificent, healthy horses are extraordinary.
Your shoppers are watching online and then tell you if and what to bid, is that how you do it? Have shared your channel with a couple of horse-girl channels and always the greatest prep channel, Nate at Canadian Prepper.
His last 3 vids he has been focusing on horses, pretty good for a guy who didn't grow up with them. You probably have heard of him; he's just across the Montana border in Canada, of course.
An owner-trainer lunged him on a 17-year-old, Bazzel. And I wondered if she gets her horses from you. Small world. He said that she said a gelding that age, goes for $10-12K. So people are trying to get ready for whatever. Mountain horses that you showed a couple videos ago or a Mustang that is a scrapper and eats anything seem good choices. TY.

You can really end up paying too much all due to your own mistakes. The old don’t look at the agent directly in the eye, sit on your hands and don’t get animated. If the agent can’t get your eye, most of the time they won’t pick your bid up. And sometimes, they will point blank say are you bidding. I have seen a good sale back up to where they know they had a solid bid.

Would picking up a good RESCUE colt or filly at a slaughter auction, and putting in the training, result in a horse that would sell at a $10,000 level? ...or must the colt or filly have breeder's records to fetch those amounts?

@@TheCleverCowgirl the backcountry horses are really what I need though, they have the temperament and kind nature I look for. Steady an easy to train, also would be gentle around kids. As I have a lot of little kids in my sister in law’s family that want to be around my horses. So this would be a great fit, I am a distance rider and need stamina. Though level head nature as I ride farm land doing field checks for the neighbors.

What b beautifu horses! I love the darker Palamino. I raised one from a foul and loved her to death. I named her Angel. Due to the increasing medical issues of my mother, I had to move from my farm and sell my horses. Broke my heart to sell Angel, but had to do what I had to do for my mother. My farm was so far from town, my mother's doctors and the hospital, so we moved. I haven't been to a horse auction since 2001. I really miss my horses and farm. Lots of thoroughbreds are sold as yearlings and some of those are amazing auctions. I've never been to any myself, I'd want to buy them all, and I can't even afford to ride anymore. Not that I'm quite sure I should be on a horse, at 70 and disabled, fibromyalgia one of those invisible disabilities. I am currently trying to enable the little girl next door who is horse crazy.

You have a good show and i enjoy it very much but .Id love to hear more of the sale and little less commentary while the auction is going on .I think it would help your viewing audience that has never listened to a auctioner much when they go finally go to a sale . And please maybe explain the biding processe and how you can turn your bids into the ringmen working with the auctioner. I have found its very helpful if you intend on biding on a horse or several introduce yourself to the ringmen PLEASE don't call them bid spotters lol. They will help you and make it much easier participating in the auction. Keep on visiting these great sales 👍

Weaver’s ranch is great- they raise well cared for babies which are good minded and ready to go on with handling. Many of their horses can go on to be shown and all are good working stock. Drag lines are super - besides something to grab they can actually sorta of ground them in that they are thinking about the rope more than getting in trouble. But it surely teaches the all important give and take. They learn to give to the rope and halter and a couple weeks of this in a pretty large stall or pen with an attached stall can make your job of handling and when time comes to moving to lunging and then bitting, lining, etc. much easier.
Sometimes having a horse that’s a bit standoff can be to your benefit - there is nothing worse than having a horse at home that gets tied to another horse and doesn’t want to leave it. I like to mix them up often so this doesn’t happen ie stalling right next. It depends on the horse’s background. Each like Weaver, it’s unusual, most are raised confidently.

In rhe early 80s, I attended a Tennessee Walking auction in Shelbyville, TN. It was held during the week of the National Tennessee Walking Horse Championship show. One of the Gabor (ZaZa of Green Acres TV series and so on) sisters bought a set of spotted (brown and white) twins for over $20,000. They were beautiful. These little twins were the most expensive horses sold at that one auction. However, there were other auctions occurring that day. Thank you for bringing back some great memories.
