Diamonds have been around forever but they've only really been in demand (through artificial market manipulation) within the past 100 yrs. Moissanite has only been in the jewelry trade within the past 25 yrs and only became a real alternative to diamond within the past 5-6 yrs after patents for their production expired and became affordable for the average Joe.
A marketing ploy invented by DeBeers, they dreamed up the diamond engagement ring and marketed it heavily using emotive slogans. Diamonds are not remotely rare. They’re in such an abundance.

Jacoje's view is very 1% centric. What Jacoje is missing is that moissanite isn't replacing the rare, perfect diamonds, those will still have value and stay desirable. The damage it's doing is on low end diamonds that most people buy. The problem for diamond is that's the bulk of their market that moissanite is going after and replacing. That people are actually choosing moissanite over diamond even after a century of propaganda and indoctrination should scare the diamond industry.
