Whilst there are a few songs that don't fair well with the 90s electro styling, this is an absolute treasure. Sparks, in and of and ahead of the moment in time. Thanks for the upload!
Saw them in late June 2023 in Berlin. What an amazing concert. Now in their 70's, Ron and Russell continue to produce a high-energy experience. Kudos, too, to their amazing band, such talent surrounds these amazing brothers who have innovated and influenced decades of fans and musicians.
I was there too, and in Copenhagen two days earlier. They are marvelous!! Here, in 1994 , who could believe it is a 46 year young guy running and bouncing on the stage?? Last summer (2023), about to turn 75 (in October 5th), and is still running and bouncing, but a little less. He is forgiven. He runs and bounces like a regular l 46 year old guy. At 75 😅!
Thanx tons for this video! Saw them 1994 in Hamburg, Hannover and Berlin. I was so impressed especially by Russ Mael, who kept dancing and jumping throughout the whole concert without losing breath while singing. ;) I had the fun of my life and found myself jumping, too. - In 2015 I saw Sparks again as "FFS" at the Lolapalooza in Berlin and twice in 2017 in Berlin. The guy is 69 (!) now and still fit and so full of energy, it's amazing and great fun to see this and being part of it in the audience. They are touring again at present. If you (who you are reading this) have the chance to see them live - don't hesitate! Go and get your ticket! :) xx
Schön beschrieben. Ich kannte bisher nur den einen Song...when do i get to sing" my way"...habe eben diesen Song als liveperformance in Nashville 2022 gesehen und seine Energie gesehen+ so wie du bestaunt.....Wahnsinn....jetzt schau ich mir mal das Concert in Gänze an. Beste Grüße
I just saw them recently at the DISNEY MUSIC CENTER in LA, and they were just as non-stop energetic and charismatic even though they must be in their 70's. Yes, Russell was still non-stop motion that you see here. And Ron, well, Ron was still simply magical as always. Russell Mael and Mick Jagger have a LOT in common when it comes to incredible unstoppable energy and stamina.
So eine tolle Band. Ich habe sie wirklich erst heute für mich entdeckt...kannte und liebte bisher nur when do I get to sing "my Way".....aber manche Lieder kommen mir so vertraut vor.....seine Stimme ist so toll und seine Energy
Hallo Nancy Ich freue mich so sehr fuer dich das du in ihre Fantastische magische musikalische Welt gefunden hast! ! ! Du musst dir unbedingt ALLE ihre Alben anhoeren es LOHNT sich WIRKLICH und natuerlich ihre grossartige Doku "The Sparks Brothers"von Edgar Wright plus ihr dunkles maerchenhaftes Musical "ANNETTE "mit u.a. Adam Driver, Simon Helberg. .. Also viel Freude beim Entdecken und Willkommen in der Sparks Fan Family! !
I found this only now! Thanks. Sparks has been my all time favourite band since 1974 when I for the first time heard Kimono my House vinyl at the library after school when waiting for the bus home. But, I saw them for the first time in Brussels in September 2018 and was "forced" to travel to Malmö Sweden from Finland to see them again a year later.
These 3 are priceless...pure love and energy on the drums, an ecstatic early 90s raver who sings and dances like a cartoon character (and definitely took the right stuff this evening 😂 )and in addition stoic Bela Lugosi on the keys! What a set up, incredible 😍
The "right stuff" for Russell Mael before a concert is water, and lots of it. The Maels have always been drug free, which probably explains, at least in part, why they're healthy, energetic and creative now, in the second half of their seventies. Russell can still leap, skip and dance his way nonstop through a 90 minute show.
like a professional recording; so well done; i saw them in edinburgh usher hall, the same year, so it is so lovely to see them as they looked that night, albeit probably a diff. top for russel
Excellent gig, THX! ps: the tech version of Angst In My Pants is interesting & pretty good, Katherine Hepburn is a blast! I discovered Sparks with Singing In The Shower (written with Les Rita Mitsouko), love the 'Sparks only version' too.
Such a good quality recording with video from the Gratuitous era, thanks so much! Russell's singing sounding absolutely effortless, and I love the "Two hands, one mouth" approach to many of the songs :)
Love the whole concert, but quite taken with the song Katherine Hepburn. This live version (drummed by Russell!) is IMHO much better than the album version (although Christi's voice gets slightly close to out-of-tuneness live, probably due to not being able to hear the music clearly).
Gratuitous Sax is easily in my top three sparks albums- But *man* did they need a guitarist for these live performances in the 90’s. Not every Sparks song translates well into techno pop- But I will admit that Amateur Hour cover was lovely
Thank you for posting this - absolutely superb. I saw their Shepherd's Bush Empire gig in London the same year and would love to see a recording of that. Is the set list complete? I ask because I cannot believe they wouldn't have played This Town...
Thank you :-) The setlist is complete. Only the last song "When Do I Get To Sing My Way" is missing, because the recording tape was damaged. Best regards.
I agree it is stressful to listen to. I acknowledge that it is teir own choice of course and goes for some of the other tunes on this gig. They are not alone doing it but I am also always sensitive to tempo and get annoyed on other artists too when speeding up (slowing down tempo is often more acceptable).
"Now That I Own The BBC" is complete. The last song at this concert was "When Do I get To Sing My Way". Unfortunately only 30 seconds of it could be recorded, and so I decided to cut it.
Sad and ironic, since that's pretty much their main song. But you deserve more than credit for uploading this. I wish Christi became a full time singer.@@aviallejongleur
These lights are torture. They’ve disappointed me far more since but for a band that’s supposed to be always so ahead of their time, going along with the spastic floodlights style of the time was stupid, ugly and irritating.
Russell must be the world's most underated vocalist.
He can sing just anything and sound perfect.
How is Russell able to pull off "Looks, Looks, Looks" so perfectly towards the end of a show? Flawless vocals, what a talent, what an asset!
Whilst there are a few songs that don't fair well with the 90s electro styling, this is an absolute treasure. Sparks, in and of and ahead of the moment in time. Thanks for the upload!
An Adonis, a genius, and a goddess.
This, this and this! 100%.
Ah, that was my first Sparks concert. Thirty years ago. And they are (almost) as good today!

Didn't they play "My way" at this show?
This is spectacular! As a new age sparks fan I feel so blessed to have these concerts I would've never had the chance to go to available

Yeah, and I'm already looking forward to October 20 when they will be in Berlin again!! I HAVE to go there!!

Well, at 74 (?), in Berlin in June 2023 Russell bounced around the stage like a young buck. Good on him!
@@joshpayne4015 He did. 😁 Still. 💛

Toll beschrieben
Christie on percussion - Beautiful!
Russell's golden vocal cords in tip-top shape!
If this doesn't put you in a positive frame of mind, nothing will, ..fantastic!!
Thumbs up for the drummer!
Christie Haydon The album was toured with Christi Haydon complementing the brothers on drums, as well as appearing in videos for the group
6:20 literally never has there been a dreamier man
Bravo!
This is just fantastic! Russell is an absolute ROCKET! ❤️
This is amazing and Russell's fantastic live too. Not going to lie, I could watch the drummer all day as well.
She's no Dinky Diamond, but I'm with you.
Oh, Christie...
Ha yes very beautiful drummer 😊

Je les adore! Si créatifs, une si belle musique, des textes originaux, drôles ou bizarres! J’aimerais tant les voir en concert! ❤️❤️❤️

Amateur Hour absolutely rocks!
Highlight I agree! Wonderful 😊

Christi Haydon -- her classy figure could also be seen as occasional Starfleet ensign serving as flight control officer aboard the Enterprise-D.
Thank you so much for this video 🙏❤️
Thank you. This is fantastic!

Wonderful, thanks thanks and thanks!!!!
Will listen again and again and again and again and again... 🥰
The first track reminds me of the German Captain Future theme song.

Sparks for ever!
Great sound and great performance!
Russell at the top of his game vocals-wise
Very underrated band!! ❤
"When I kiss you" gives me always the chills.
Russell & Ron were in their 40’s here? They both look so much younger, wow. They look like they’re in their 20’s
Excellent gig, THX!
ps:
the tech version of Angst In My Pants is interesting & pretty good,
Katherine Hepburn is a blast!
I discovered Sparks with Singing In The Shower (written with Les Rita Mitsouko), love the 'Sparks only version' too.
i have watched this approximately 7 or more times
me when the girl with everything
I was there ... very long time ago
Love the electronic version of at Home at Work at Play, which Russ sings/dances anaerobically (1:05:35 I think this is the moment when he breathes)
Eines der 3 besten Concerte, die ich je auf YT gesehen habe( inkl. Morrissey - Wolverhampton 88 )
Russell always the fashion icon & Ron having the fun time of his life;-)!
Thanks for sharing.
GREAT!!
Thanks for sharing. I saw them live the same year in Mannheim and Frankfurt and absolutely loved it.
Wow, thank you!
Such a good quality recording with video from the Gratuitous era, thanks so much! Russell's singing sounding absolutely effortless, and I love the "Two hands, one mouth" approach to many of the songs :)
Hamburg loves Ron!
Grossartige Band von der Wiege bis zur Bahre.
...mit der Bahre warten wir noch, bitte!!!
...mit der Bahre warten wir noch, bitte !!!
крутая группа. ударница у них просто прелесть.
I miss the old Sparks time ...
Thanks for sharing
Could I possibly get a rip of this please? Something not UA-cam quality? 😊

I think Russell needs a bigger jumper, that one seems a little tight!! Wonderful performance.
Клавишник, ну умора 👀🤣👍👍👍
Looks like an Addidas anime top at 24:11 - That rocks...can't find it anywhere.
I can't seem to get Katharine Hepburn out of my mind. 🤔
Looks looks looks was spot on!
good
Christy singing is the most played part of the video, not for no reason🙂
There is a helluva lot of backing tracks going on.
Hats of to the sequencer!
Gratuitous Sax is easily in my top three sparks albums- But *man* did they need a guitarist for these live performances in the 90’s. Not every Sparks song translates well into techno pop- But I will admit that Amateur Hour cover was lovely
gonna c them Edinburgh September
This lady in dress is sexier than most women without one.
Yes, Christi looks really marvelous!
I think it’s hilarious how the dude in the white collar shirt is just motionless while his band mates are jamming the fuck out 😂
Yes, it is hilarious, as I first discovered half a century ago.. The 'dude' is mastermind Ron Mael.
@Michael .Witheford no
been like that for 50 years. Only saw them in dublin a couple weeks ago and he is still the same. Ron dont move, except when he does its magical.
"Skate Board SpArks"

Thank you :-) The setlist is complete.
Only the last song "When Do I Get To Sing My Way" is missing,

Only criticism is I don't like the speeded up version of When I'm With You.
I agree it is stressful to listen to. I acknowledge that it is teir own choice of course and goes for some of the other tunes on this gig. They are not alone doing it but I am also always sensitive to tempo and get annoyed on other artists too when speeding up (slowing down tempo is often more acceptable).
This was years before Daft Punk
Half of the last song is missing!
"Now That I Own The BBC" is complete. The last song at this concert was "When Do I get To Sing My Way". Unfortunately only 30 seconds of it could be recorded, and so I decided to cut it.

On the album the song is much longer.

Russell was beautiful here. And im a man.
it's so bad Christi hasn't got a song career yet, but it's properly her own choice
it would have been nice if Christi said "thank you" instead of just bowing
These lights are torture. They’ve disappointed me far more since but for a band that’s supposed to be always so ahead of their time, going along with the spastic floodlights style of the time was stupid, ugly and irritating.
I really don't like the electric instrumentation here, not my favourite Sparks era...
Why?
gonna c them Edinburgh September
