    I hate to sound irritating, but the irony has to be mentioned: According to lore, that Predator in the first movie was supposed to be an outcast of sorts because it didn't get permission from its clan to be there in the first place, so it goes along with what Bob says about it being a douche. Which then leads me to the obvious hashtag of.....#notallpredators 😅

    Honestly, I think they could get some mileage out of the predator kills a bunch of as*holes concepts. Like he goes to Africa and he meets a bunch of rich white guy types like the kind that aren't into preservation, they might be poaching, and like some of them are sleazy and you set all that up and just have the cathartic fun of the predator hunting them. As you said he's a slasher villain right? Well let's make him a slasher villian

      Poachers aren't white guys they are very poor African's. The white guys pay lots of money per kill as in tens of thousands of dollars and when regular tourists or people in other countries complain and nature reserves stop allowing hunting they go bust because regular tourists stop going every time they hear about violence in a country even when it's hundreds or thousands of kilometres away. What happens when nature reserves go bust? they stop paying the wardens who then kill the animals them selves.

    The Predators in Predator 2 were great. And what made them great is that they were just detailed enough. Predator 1 Predator is absolutely a shithead rich kid. Predator 2 Predator is more a legit hunter, and the Predators of Predator 2 are less shitty about their dude getting killed than humans are. A wild animal kills a hunter and humans have to kill that animal because it's 'dangerous'. Predator 2 Predators see a wild animal kill one of their dudes and are like "Good job, he had every advantage and still got fucked. Here, have a trophy."

      I like the element in Predators where they kinda acknowledge that the kinds of people that would make good game for the Preds are kinda bad people themselves.
      Like, I never got a sense Dutch and his buddies in Predator where good people. Like, they are themselves kind of bad and mean, and kinda kill people and like it.
      But Predators is more overt in asking if maybe some people out there deserve to be filetted by an alien.

      Batzarro Pretty spot on. Dutch and his team are laughing and cracking jokes while literally murdering the holy hell out of an entire camp full of..rebels, militia...it's been a while and I can't remember what type of typical 80's excuse they gave to make it 'movie ok' for a group of walking meat slabs to just murder 100 people.
      If you don't know what's going on, they'd look like a wandering group of heavily armed sociopaths.
      And THAT is why the Predator thought they'd make a good target.

All the crazy costumes, throw Frank Grillo back in it, sure the humans would be way over matched but the sheer numbers hed br up against work against him. We could still have the campers who are terrible people be the fodder for both, that way we see what each are capable and then have this big third act showdown. For my money, I wouldn’t really care who “wins” I just want to see the fight.

    While listening to your idea of the first predator as a miserable Big Game Hunter dweeb, I thought of something. If some guy goes off to hunt squirrels with a bazooka, and gets killed by the squirrels, we'd all think he's a moron. There might be a bit of an outcry about squirrels, and so animal control gets called in to deal with the squirrels. They get killed too. Suddenly people are taking notice of these squirrels.
    So all the follow-up predators might be trying to deal with this sudden 'human problem'.
    I haven't watched any Predator movies except for the first one, so I don't know how well the actual sequels could fit in with this idea.

      That’s not really the impression that the first and second movie give though. It seems like Predators are just wired different than people and they as a group are driven by a desire to test their physical limits against some kind of adversary. You wouldn’t say Klingons are dude bro losers because of the dumb stuff they do any more than you would make a moral judgement on a dog’s instinct to chase. Differently evolved species are going to have different morality and social norms.

He needs to be alien and awesome with a culture full of ritual and eccentricities that we don't understand and have to piece together and guess about through repeat viewing of all the different movies. I think Bob is really misremembering the ending of the original movie, Pred dropped his gear once Arnie ran out of weapons, and was killed when he got caught off guard by a back up to the trap he spotted and avoided because he saw through the taunts, his only major failing was his outburst when he first got caught in arnie's trap and just unloaded on everything,
    also comparing hunting soldiers to hunting chipmunks is kinda not true, he went into a warzone and hunted highly trained soldiers who outnumbered him, and was quite willing to not use his best gear if they called for it, Billy yelling implies he was shanked not shot,
    Predators are dicks, but they do have honor, it's why people like them they are like if Jason only picked on people who could fight back reasonably and had more moral standards,

If his “douchebag, big game Hunter” interpretation were true, it would render the Predator MORE of a joke than anything that Shane Black did in his recent film. Fans of the series are upset over the introduction of a “mad scientist” gene modification and hybrid motifs in the new Predator. Imagine if they were forced to take Bob’s “douchebag” interpretation seriously. He just wants to APPEAR to understand the Predator. His whole career kinda revolves around that goal.

    Bob, long-time fan of yours here. I absolutely love the Predator franchise and I also love this take on it. I heartily agree with you on the Predator "mythos" that's been built up by basically misunderstanding the intent of the first two films. (To that, I'll add I'm with you, I'm also someone who likes the first AvP film.) Your take on the idea of the bored, middle-management dumbasses going hunting on the weekend is both hilarious and completely accurate. I have an older DVD release of the original film that has both commentary and text info settings, and it describes in detail some of the *actual* backstory the two writers had in mind for the creature: beyond even being bored suburban assholes, they're dilettantes. They've conquered space. Material needs no longer exist for them, a la Star Trek. The mysteries of the universe are unfolded before them, and they enjoy technological and social advancements we can only dream of. So what do some of them do with their spare time? Might as well go to a backwater planet and commit mass murder!
    Oh, and by way of the killing the Cecil the Lion comparison, I'd only add this: I think an even better metaphor given the above is that this isn't "big game" hunting, it's as you mentioned, "most dangerous game". We have a sentient being killing other sentient beings. For FUN. That isn't being a "noble hunter" or "member of a proud warrior race". That's "a fucking serial killer." It isn't even that dentist killing Cecil, it's a rich asshole being flown into the territory of a stone age tribe and picking people off with a sniper rifle.
    OK, enough out of me. Movie Bob, thanks for making this (and remaking it), and keep being awesome!

Arnold has that line about "if it bleeds, we can kill it." I kinda feel like that's what the movie was saying. Sure space aliens are scary, but when it comes down to it, the most proficient killer or hunter in the galaxy is still man. I would watch all of Bob's hypothetical PREDATOR sequels, especially with the commitment to the idea that maybe Predators are game hunting assholes who don't get that much respect on their home world. Although I personally don't have his exhaustion with this franchise because I've literally only seen the original Predator, Predators and one of the Alien vs Predator movies which I only half remember. While not the best movie ever, I did think the "Game Preserve" planet in Predators was a really cool idea though, and making one the Predators friendly to humans in that movie didn't ruin it.

    Enough with the Alien and the Predator. We know what they look like, we know what they do, we know more about their biology, mythology, history, and life cycles more so than most of us know our own biology, mythology, and history in the real world. The mystique is ruined, and they're not even scary anymore.

    I will start up by admitting, I don't care about this franchise. Sometimes it's fun, but I really don't care. I don't think predator as parody of itself would work. You know what I think would work? If these guys were not their own bosses. And I don't mean like bounty hunters, but like an actual primitive species of hunter/gatherers that was colonized by a more technologically advanced species. You know, like the people who actually gave the predators all these cool gadgets and the ability to travel space, in exchage for them being the cannon fodder or battle units for them. And then you can draw a parallel to the whole Alien mythology, of the Xenomorphs being created as some sort of biological weapon, but you replace the genetically engineering with social engineering, and then you even have a nature vs nurture axis on which to plan a crossover. Yeah, I think something like that could work.

    Fox Media struck this video for using clips. Why? How? Because the DMCA was written by Senators who crafted it in an era where one of them was still claiming to have 'invented the internet.' It was ten years out of date the day it was signed. And because UA-cam has been allowed to maintain the guilty-until-proven-innocent system they've long maintained internally. So here's a handy tip from the Roninpawn: For those who wish to beat every single strike you receive on UA-cam... a primer!
    Click 'appeal.' That's it. You'll win every time. Upload full copies of Family Guy episodes... openly violate UMG, Sony, and Fox copyrights... doesn't matter. You'll still win. Because the DMCA requires the 'striking' agent to submit proof to the service provider (here, UA-cam) that they have filed a lawsuit against you in district court within 14 days of your appeal to the DMCA action or else they default lose the case. At which point your content MUST return to the platform, and they can never bring issue against it on said platform again.
    So unless you have reason to believe that a multi-billion dollar corporate entity is actually going to file suit against you in district court - just keep clicking the appeal button until the strike is cleared and, whatever the content, you'll win the right to monetize it on UA-cam.

    • @Mr.Joyless
      @Mr.Joyless 6 років тому +3

      So... let's not go willfully violating copyright that's a shitty thing to do and weakens your position. Because, for the lulz isn't a very good defense if Fox manages to actually sue you for infringement.

    • @stevethepocket
      @stevethepocket 6 років тому +1

      Are you speaking from personal experience? Because UA-cam is absolutely NOT required by law to put videos back if they're appealed. They're a private company, not a public service; they're not _required_ to host certain content if they choose not to. ALSO: 99% of the time a video gets flagged, which I suspect was the case here as well, it's because of ContentID, not because some lawyer with nothing better to do found the video and manually sent a takedown notice. Seriously, the only time anyone still bothers to use DMCA on UA-cam anymore is when some nobody is trying to silence negative opinions about them.

    3. Hunting semi-intelligent species on relatively primitive planets like ours is their hobby

    I figure the only thing the Predator has going for him in terms of being a big game hunter is that humans technically aren't endangered. Though it would be pretty fun to learn what constitutes as endangered to aliens that mastered inter-planetary travel, maybe we'd count because we only exist on this one planet?

    • @SorasShadow1
      @SorasShadow1 6 років тому +1

      Ushio01 That's very true, watch even a section of a nature documentary set in Africa & you're likely to see hoards of zebra & the like, but I'd argue that those aren't the big game hunters we hear about & that's not where people's minds immediately go. That was actually kind of my joke, humans are more like zebra than lions except I suppose we could be considered similarly "dangerous" (but not really because alien technology) and that's the only "positive" because people still generally look down on big game hunters on principle. And the whole "only exist on this one planet" also ties into your point since foreign=endangered to a *lot* of laypeople even when they're super common animals.

      @@MCCrleone354 Nugent is a vocal supporter of the U.S. Republican Party and various associated conservative causes, particularly gun rights and hunter's rights.[64] He is a supporter of President Trump, and has made a number of statements critical of Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, one of which was perceived as potentially threatening and lead to Nugent being investigated by the Secret Service.[10]
      In an interview in 1990, a few months after the release of Nelson Mandela during the negotiations to end apartheid in South Africa, Nugent stated: "apartheid isn't that cut-and-dry. All men are not created equal." He described black South Africans as "a different breed of man" who "still put bones in their noses, they still walk around naked, they wipe their butts with their hands".[65][66]
      As a reward for entertaining U.S. troops in Iraq in 2004, Nugent visited Saddam Hussein's war room. He commented on Iraq, "Our failure has been not to Nagasaki them."[67]
      On July 17, 2008, during the presidential election season and shortly before the Republican presidential nominating convention, Nugent expressed his skepticism about presumptive GOP Presidential nominee John McCain, stating that McCain was "catering to a growing segment of soulless Americans who care less what they can do for their country, but whine louder and louder about what their country must do for them. That is both un-American and pathetic."[68]
      At a 2009 West Virginia rally sponsored in part by Massey Energy, Nugent "defended mountaintop removal mining," according to reporters on the scene. "On behalf of the Nugent family, I say, start up the bulldozers and get me some more coal, Massey," Nugent was recorded as saying.[69] Nugent is an outspoken critic of Islam, which he describes as a "voodoo religion" which "believes in world domination".[70]
      During an interview with Piers Morgan, Nugent denied that he considered himself homophobic, saying "I’m repulsed at the concept of man-on-man sex, I think it's against nature. I think it’s strange as hell, but if that’s what you are, I love you. I'm not going to judge another's morals. I say live and let live. I have friends that are gay."[71][72]
      Nugent clashed in 2014 with Jay Dean, then the mayor of Longview, Texas, and an incoming Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives after Dean moved to cancel Nugent's scheduled appearance at the Longview Independence Day concert. Dean said that he finds Nugent's music unsuitable for family-oriented audiences on July 4. Longview hence paid Nugent $16,000, half of the amount he had been promised, to drop him from the concert. Nugent in turn called Dean "racist" and "clueless, dishonest, and one of the bad guys."[73]
      In June 2018, Nugent said that "evil, dishonesty and scam artists have always been around and that right now they're liberal, they're Democrat, they're RINOs, they're Hollywood, they're fake news, they're media, they're academia, and they're half of our government, at least ... There are rabid coyotes running around, you don't wait till you see one to go get your gun, keep your gun handy. And every time you see one, shoot one."[7][9]

    Maybe the hunting predators were exiled from their home world for being too violent.
    Like they lost some kind of civil war and now rogue predator clans roam the galaxy to hunt?
    The normal predators are protective of their technology to keep it away from the rebels.
    Perhaps the predators we've encountered so far are preparing to take back their planet by force.
    I just made that up. So there's a lot that can be done if you want to go the space opera route.
    Build a big conflict that could span multiple movies.
    Make the home world predators elegant and peaceful. They could be all female like on Gazorpazorp.
    The only problem I see is that predators aren't known to talk and the monster face is very distracting.

    This is why Predators is actually my favorite sequel. Think about it. When you get over Adrian Brody being the lead (which I think was the biggest reason it failed), it makes the most sense and is the best next step to the story the first one told.
    It changes up the setting context significantly but stays in the jungle, it gives some interesting variety to the group and it adds to the “mythology” in a way that makes sense without giving too much away (we have big game preserves one earth too after all). Plus it added the element of the two different races without making it stupid or even dragging it out - the small Predator and Adrian Brody team up for the same reason: Self preservation. And it fails almost instantly lol Plus it threw in just enough throwbacks without trying too hard.
    I just rewatched it. Totally under appreciated.

    Hey @moviebob I agree with a lot of what you said in this video. Some friends saw the newest Predator film recently and so of course it came up in conversation and we all came up with (in our opinion of course) interesting ideas for the Predator franchise.
    The Predator is of course vaguely based off those "hunting humans for sport on a deserted island" stories, and part of what made the original movie so fun was that it was killing and instilling fear in these macho, "fearless" incarnations of 80s badassery. I thought it'd be fun to see a 'reverse predator movie where it's basically "Predator Rambo." The Predator veers off course or whatever and lands on Earth, but has none of the Predator gear. Instead, this Predator has to make its own tools and weapons (and steal weapons from humans) in order to survive. My friends also had the idea that the Predator could be the inspiration behind many monsters and cryptids in human history, and various movies could be set in different times and locations to keep it fresh.

    Bob, it's fine if you don't like the movies after the first one, but if you're going to bitch about something, at least be accurate in what you're saying. The Predator was never talked into a hand to hand duel in the first movie. He actually surprises Dutch then lifts him out of the water, stares at him for a bit, drops him and then removes his mask and cannon and that's when the fight starts. It's very clear that Dutch was pretty damn sure he was dead the moment his head was caught between the wrist blades. There was no "calling out", no "my manhood is bigger than yours." That whole scene was a surprise because nobody expected the Predator to do that, given what we had seen. Also, that entire "fight" only serves to highlight your point about the Predator being the bad guy. Pay very close attention to the sound effects of Arnold as heard when we're in the Predator's perspective. It sounds like he's beating up a kid or a small animal. It's not a fight, it's a beating and it's horrendous.

    How I'd do a Predator reboot - a bunch of soldiers are out in a desert, guarding a bunker somewhere. Not super-elite 1980s action-hero soldiers, just regular grunts. A bunch of civilians come running to the bunker and beg for shelter, say that their village was attacked by ghosts...the soldiers let them stay, things feel tense...the soldiers start to get taken down by plasma casters, but they can kind of see the attackers with their night vision goggles. The whole film is a siege, with the soldiers being slowly pushed back into the bunker, until it's just the last room with the civilians clustered in behind them. Then the predators start bringing in their own predator-women and predator-children and predator-eggs and stowing them in safe places, and we realise that the attackers are a bunch of refugees, and the attackers are just a handful of civvies who happened to have weapons trying to find a safe place for the others. And then we're left wondering "Okay, so given how scary these bastards were, how scary must the thing they were running from be??"

    You just made me realize something! The original movie was about 7 super elite special forces mercenaries who are hopelessly outmatched BUT the Preditor had no idea they would be there. He was there to kill the rebels that Dutch's team wiped out in 3 minutes!

    The predator is best described as a blood knight they will fight prey on relatively even grounds. Remeber those machine guns were still very capabable of murdering the shit out of the predator at a range. A plasma cannon and a machinegun is still a ranged weapon that fires a projectile weapon at a ridiclously fast speed. Both have the potential to kill with little effort so at best its more of a musket versus a pistol scenario.
    Yes he does hunt weaker prey. But the prey is humans with greater ability to think on their feet. Most of the time its skilled soldiers and mercs who have experiance in battle.
    I mean its kinda a double standard to embrace murderous action heros like john wick who resolves all his problems with excessive violence and never make any effort to resolve his loss through the justice system. Instead giving into his vengeful desire to murder and kill.
    Politically we can see this behaviour has led to many militias and vigillante groups taking the law into their own hand and hurting many innocent people in the cross fire. Look at the Philippines where so many drug users are being killed by vigilante groups without so much as a trial or going through the justice system without fairly ensuring that the party is guilty if their crime.
    I agree with you bob that the mythos for this series is not likely to be that interresting but you can portray murderous alien big game hunters as good guys using the old action movie technique of making the victims/prey people awful terribble people who are human traffickers, gang leaders and rapists.

Nerdy shit is in now and pays big when done right. Also, AVP 1, 2 and The Predator to my knowledge are NOT canon. Why can't they just adapt Concrete Jungle. Smh.

      Compensate for what? They already achieved the high society goal of making something of themselves. Now they also have being able to hunt 500 Ibs wildlife under their belt... I don’t believe that they ever touted their hunting abilities as their core achievements in life. Why am I supposed to find douchiness where none exists??

    • @Sheepy007
      @Sheepy007 6 років тому +2

      @@MCCrleone354 first of all, they didnt achieve High society, they were given it to them. It is easier to become richer when you are rich, then to become rich when you are poor. With a name like trump it is guaranteed that you will find some sort of funding for whatever project you could imagine. Second Big game hunting has nothing to do with skill. The process is that a couple of impoverished trackers are paid to find a group of animals in the morning, chase them down all day to get them exhausted, then the Hunter arrives with their entourage in their. jeeps from a safe distance, some underpaid lackey prepared their rifles in advance and all the hunter has to do is pull the trigger in the end.

    • @MCCrleone354
      @MCCrleone354 6 років тому

      Sheepy007
      I disagree. I didn’t say they just achieved “high society”, but “high society goals.” My point was that they were born in a rich family, and instead of living the life of cocaine, prostitutes and deviance at the expense of their dad, they actually made something of themselves. It’s a no win situation with the Trump children in eyes of “critics”. If they were spoiled rich kids who have achieved nothing still in their 30s, you would spite them. If they achieved something in he world of science, you would try to downplay it. Since they achieved wealth in real estate dealings, you are claiming that they ONLY achieved that because of their name. Which is an unsubstantiated claim. Many rich people certainly have kids that do much less with their lives than Eric, Don Jr., Tiffany, Baron and Ivanka have or will, yet they don’t receive the same empty scrutiny.
      What you have described about the process of big game hunters may be true, but I don’t know if that applies to Eric Trump.

    Am I the only one who thinks that Bob's complaints about the Predator are just him projecting his disdain for alpha male, sport-hunting type of guys? This wouldn't be the first time he's used a popular sci-fi film series to do this. His hypothetical Terminator sequel/reboot was basically a "take that" against jocks who peaked in high school.

      Nope, you are not the only one. That’s EXACTLY what this and more. It comes across as a meltdown, lol. On top of that he doesn’t understand the Predator from the first film AT ALL. Desperation to kill your target after you are wounded isn’t the same as a douche bag Hunter. The Predator has has the warped pathology of a suicide bomber... that is horrifying! Not something to make irrelevant TDS false equivalencies to the Trump boys.

    • @The_Based_Batman

      The Predator has no time for politics. He's only in town with a few days to kill. What makes them interesting is they're like people. Wolf was a badass elite that was sent to clean up messes, same with Scarface. The ones in AVP were young which is why they looked like kids in football padding gear. City Hunter was one who wanted to hunt the most dangerous people in LA. Ahab was just hellbent on revenge. They have backstories and characteristics. As for hunting "squirrels" yeah. Squirrels with machine guns and RPGs that wiped out an entire squad of soldiers and spit out one liners with their leader being testosterone incarnate.

    Predator 2 was a good idea to have a predator in a big city during a crime wave, with the added twist that a government group was waiting to ambush him. Predator 3 could have been on the 1st half of the film with the human side believe they are ready and capture him alive. Now, 2nd half of the film the predator is trying to escape and make sure none of his techs fall on the human side. In Predator 4 there is a squad of predators fighting an army of humans with reverse tech predator gear. Depending if the Predator is a weekend warrior or ultimate hunter would be an interesting dynamic.

I’ll never understand how real people who still hunt for SPORT, don’t realize that “killing for fun” is the perfect description of them, and uhhhh killing for fun isn’t a thing good people do? Unsurprising then, that it’s people too stupid to have empathy who do it! Lol but yeah, it still works great for movie villains, even though it’s such a cartoon-villain thing at this point... kinda surreal how it still goes on in real life even as mainstream culture hates it.
