Sask. Premier Moe responds to Trudeau warning that CRA will come for carbon price payment

- During a visit to Saskatoon, Sask., Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned Premier Scott Moe last week that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is “rigorous” at getting the money it’s owed when it comes to collecting the federal carbon price on natural gas.
"Having an argument with CRA about not wanting to pay your taxes is not a position I want anyone to be in. Good luck with that, Premier Moe," Trudeau added at another press conference the following day.
On Saturday, Premier Moe responded to the prime minister’s comments on the Roy Green Show.
“It’s our position that we paid all the tax that is owed so the threat is not a threat at all,” Moe said. “(The) prime minister thinks he’s going to start sending agencies after provinces that had unanimous votes in their legislation … he may have his views. I believe he’s wrong with those views.”
The jurisdictional spat began when the Liberals created a temporary exemption to the carbon price for home heating oil.

Do you appreciate that his government cut taxes from where they were under the previous government? I know that I don't appreciate the heaps of new taxes that Scott Moe has put on us in Saskatchewan though. He's single-handedly made our province unaffordable to live in with his high tax, high spend policies.

@frank5d289 I don't understand what you mean by that? No province funds other provinces. Income tax is collected on income. That money is then used by the feds to pay for programs across the country. Wages in Saskatchewan are literally the lowest in the country with one of the lowest populations. We aren't sending money anywhere.
It does bother me when I see Scott Moe reject federal funding just so he can turn around and blame Trudeau for it. I really don't get how people in our province don't see what he's doing and keep voting in his Dictatorship. Our incredibly high taxes in Saskatchewan go directly to Scott Moe and his corporate donors. At this point, he's more corrupt than Grant Devine was and he's bankrupting our province just like he bankrupted his farms.

I wish it were that simple. It's not just Trudeau although he is the worst PM ever. Our political system is corrupted beyond repair. Although we could get somewhat better government for a while, the underlying problems will remain. Since the 1982 constitution we no longer have rights. We have privileged that can be canceled. Also all of the institutions meant to hold the government to account are now controlled by the government including the media. You can't have a functional democracy without freedom of speech, and independent news media.

@@ye333 Absolutely. He increased our provincial sale's tax by 1%, introduced a 6% tax on children's clothing, introduced a 6% tax on food, introduced a 6% sale's tax on the perceived value of used vehicle sales, and introduced a 10% ticket tax on sports events, concerts, movie theatres, etc.
He also increased our heating, electricity, and phone rates. Not to mention how he essentially increased our property tax rates by cutting funding to municipalities. He's also constantly fighting to freeze or even lower working people's wages and is proud that Saskatchewan has the lowest minimum wage in the country. Then they wonder why we have the highest crime rate in Canada. What a mystery.
At least we get a rebate on the carbon tax. The Saskparty gives us absolutely nothing, yet takes more and more from us every year.

This is literally what all the experts warned would be the result of a federal carbon tax nearly 17 years ago. Anyone surprised is either too young or too stupid to remember the warnings. And here is another one. Its not going to become less expensive. Ever. But that was also warned would happen so keep pretending to be surprised or fight it. Those are your only two options.

Sorry to disagree but the federal government collects taxes and the distrusted portions to Provinces which they the feds decide each Province should receive.
