900bz They said in the beginning that it was too difficult for his wife to take care of him. I assure you he gets better care there than at his own house or even his childrens' houses, considering his condition.
Yes, it happens to millions of seniors. Many old folks are "dumped off" and never visited by their relatives. My wife works in one of these depressing places and she is a better friend to them than their family members. True story.
Here my grain of salt 😅. If I get to live long enough that taking care of myself becomes challenging, I will take myself to one of those places right away, without arguing with my relatives or feeling angry about it because by then I would have lived a long life and enjoyed each phase of it, I believe I will want my kids and relatives to live their lives fully too without having to worry about me, if they want to visit cool, if they do not is cool too. when my grandfather asked me what my iPod was and I showed him. he broke down in years. he said he had not heard music that clearly in years. I remember showing him on UA-cam. he asked me to look up the twelfth of never by Johnny Mathis. telling me how it was one of his and my grandmother's songs. he cried when he heard it and that was when my father got him his own. simple nano. only needed a couple buttons. he was about 92 at the time. it was the most amazing thing I had ever witnessed in my life.

5:15 OH MY GOSH 😭😭😭 To quote Professor Keating in Dead Poets Society: “Medicine, law, business, engineering - these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love - these are what we stay alive for!” The power of music is infinite. Such an amazing video.
It's not just music that will bring people back to themselves. It's about making a personal connection for them. If you have a person who enjoyed cooking, then the smells & sounds of cooking might bring them out. It just depends upon the person.
Clark Kent he’s actually got a book out which has a lot more stuff like this in there that he talks about including the way that people who develop Huntington’s disease who grew up playing the piano are able to play with ease and function normally for a short while.
Oliver Sacks was an incredible and ultimately curious man. He died in 2015 or 2016, and was probably already ill with cancer at this point. He wrote fine books as Ian mentioned. He also had prosopagnosia or Face Blindness and could not recognize his own face in a mirror. Probably why he became a neuro-scientist.

WOW my grandpa is exactly like this... Sits in the corner hunched over, not saying a word... then someone will start playing old irish music on the piano and he actually STANDS UP next to the piano singing! Music is so powerful
At 4:50 -ish I burst into very emotional tears...Especially when this DEAR, sweet man began singing & talking about his enjoyment of music & feeling love...God Bless him & all the loving, responsible carers of the World who work so patiently & gently with our elderly...You have my deepest admiration & respect...
nah, all these little fads and "music" you kids listen to these days will not stand the test of time. in a couple years dabbing won't be "cool" anymore. just like soulja boy... for a few years that crank that bs was extremely popular all over the country. now if someone did that you would clown the hell out of em.
I used to sing classics and hymns at nursing homes with my mom. You can't know how much it means to some of these elderly to hear the music they grew up with. I remember singing at an Alzheimer's ward, and seeing some of those people start to sing along from what memory they had left was amazing.
+Charles Parnell You are the people who attack people in the Internet, you sit behind your desk and make other people you do not know feel bad about themselves. you are responsible of cyber bulling
+Tanned Mangos people like Charles are sad and depressed, they feel threatened by happiness and like to kill it whenever they find it because they cant seem to get happy themselves because they feel like nobody loves them and cares about them. they are very vulnerable to negative comments because they have a self worth issue. The way you responded was not good. More than being a cyber bully you can be a cyber caring
People meme this video a lot, but I think it shows just how much music can affect us as people. It’s a powerful art form that gets us overflowing with emotion, especially when we listen to something that is close to our hearts. Long live music.
My grandma has Alzheimer's, but when I play her Elvis she still knows the words and starts dancing. Makes my day. She barely recognizes me, but loves when I play her favorite songs.
Justin Simmons It's sad because I can't play my grandma Dean Martin She's dead I still hear it though, it is beautiful music and it reminds me of the grandma I never got to see
This is exactly what I wanted to read! My grandfather forgot who I was over a decade ago. I’d love to try this and see a look of familiarity in his eyes again if it’s possible. ❤️
Gilbert Valdez It only takes a moment to change a life. Hope your grandpa enjoys the music..... my dad had Alzheimers, I put music that he loved on for him.....Glad your there for your grandpa to.
God Bless him🙏 Getting old Truely sucks but I believe when we pass we are restored to our young selves and health. I am a sinner, I don’t go to church but I believe in God and the heavens
We watched this clip in Adolescent and Adult development. My professor is very adamant on teaching us about the development of older adults, and how they adapt to life once they grow old. He showed us this in correlation with the practice of Music Therapy in older adults, specifically those with demetia (neuro-cognitive disorders), and how it can drastically change their cognitive processes for the better. It's such a wonderful thing
This is so wonderful! My mother had Lewy Body Dementia. She wouldn't be able to hold much of a conversation but could sing songs from her childhood. Music is very powerful and when you combine it with visuals of things they like it can open them right up.
Having worked in her field, I have seen exactly the same response for many individuals having Alzheimer's Dementia and adults with Developmental Disabilities and Autism. Music truly feeds the soul.
HOW DARE YOU! I sexually identify as a intergalactic terrorist and music killed our whole species of glip glop in the planet squanch. And now I'm hunting down music to avenge my people.
Music is therapy, it is life, it is love, it is timeless. Even when you are older, music can transport you to the past, your favorite times, your favorite memories. Music is eternal, it is a cure, it is a miracle
There are many reasons why families choose to put their elder members in nursing homes. A huge reason being that the elderly people have health issues that the family aren't able to take care of/the elderly person needs too much supervision. Don't judge peoples decisions.
As a domiciliary care worker, I've seen the environments that some people live in at home. I can tell you that 3/4 of the service users live in worse conditions than any care home. And most of them live alone, sitting in one room for the whole day.
annie10103 I switched out beds at a nursing home, It was a nice environment and the people and nurses all had a good spirit to them... besides one nurse
LowSupport yes its beautiful that it makes him happy again but it's also sad that he can't dance to it or really enjoy it but makes you happy again that he enjoys it for what he has
lmao imagine in 2070 when there is a video about old man in nursing home too, ''hello grandpa, what song do you want us to play ?'' ''uhhh whip nae nae please''
I strongly dislike the way this video is presented, as if they did something magical to restore a part of his personality that was lost. People react positively to to the type of music they like. To anyone who has had an older family member to care for, this is "by the book" what you do to keep them happy and entertained. This guy was probably just really bored from sitting in a chair and doing absolutely nothing because his family was too busy with their own lives.
My Father had Alzheimer's and kind of collapsed into himself, he'd sit and just stare with dead eyes. He had a collection of music he loved and I'd pull out some of it and play it for him. Those dead eyes lit up and a big smile would spread across his face and the feet would start tapping while it played. It does work, folks. He passed 19 years ago yesterday, 3/21/99, I still play that stuff now and remember. Miss you, Dad.
OneLastHitB4IGo I don’t know if your religious or not, but I’m sure your father is watching from his new home whichever you may believe it is, and smiling down upon you.
I can see it now: "Here's your music, Colby." "Eh?!? Oh...Oh...kay." The play button is pressed, and Skrillex blasts in my ears. "Is the music t-" (Interrupting) "That's my SHIT!!!!" *Jumps up and completes a decathlon.*

kay jay stfu that's rude as hell, you could have said it in a nicer way 🙄
Girly Girl Why, it's true. More humans have to die. It's not good when the house where old people are is crowded. In Germany i.e. only one sixth of the population is young.
I cried when he sang Cab Calloway's song. Music and dogs are two of life's great pleasures.
for his age he got a good voice
when my grandfather asked me what my iPod was and I showed him. he broke down in years. he said he had not heard music that clearly in years.

To quote Professor Keating in Dead Poets Society: “Medicine, law, business, engineering - these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love - these are what we stay alive for!”
The power of music is infinite. Such an amazing video.
It's not just music that will bring people back to themselves. It's about making a personal connection for them. If you have a person who enjoyed cooking, then the smells & sounds of cooking might bring them out. It just depends upon the person.
Yes!
I love how excited the neuro scientist is at the results. great to see one race working together, the human race.
What about nascar
You should check out the film Awakenings about how he got started it's a brilliant movie
the human species is made up of multiple races, or sub-species.
please stop spreading scientific misinformation like “one human race”
I can understand him better than designer

PlayTrailers oh he did
PlayTrailers judging by the women in charge of that nursing home I can guarantee he did.
Why did they need to take the ipod in the first place?
+The Morning Star So they could ask him questions
She said she'd give it back to him and that he listens to music on the IPod daily.
This man right here made me start listening to cab Calloway
The power of music everyone. It is extremely powerful.
The Fine Brothers are going to sue this guy
lmao
+CORROSIVE KNIFE I didn't realise vaginas had intelligence. I also didn't realise I was a vagina. I'm learning a lot today, maybe if you keep sharing little nuggets of wisdom like that then I'll become a smart vagina and make you proud daddy.
+Salvador Caetano You might as well have rage face as your profile picture just to prove now much of a douche you are.
+Kosog 0NG (Nemos) Well they say a picture says a thousand words, apart from douche what are the other 999 words you'd use to describe me?
man you're a natural savage keep em coming!
WOW my grandpa is exactly like this... Sits in the corner hunched over, not saying a word... then someone will start playing old irish music on the piano and he actually STANDS UP next to the piano singing! Music is so powerful
Jason Sullivan That's so cute...I love that story🙂

At 4:50 -ish I burst into very emotional tears...Especially when this DEAR, sweet man began singing & talking about his enjoyment of music & feeling love...God Bless him & all the loving, responsible carers of the World who work so patiently & gently with our elderly...You have my deepest admiration & respect...

When we're his age we're gonna be dabbing at everything
XD lol
lmfao
nah, all these little fads and "music" you kids listen to these days will not stand the test of time. in a couple years dabbing won't be "cool" anymore. just like soulja boy... for a few years that crank that bs was extremely popular all over the country. now if someone did that you would clown the hell out of em.
Lisa Fan he was just joking, don't waste your time on a paragraph
no, like all stupid dance moves they don't stand the test of time. Dabbing is fucking stupid.
I used to sing classics and hymns at nursing homes with my mom. You can't know how much it means to some of these elderly to hear the music they grew up with. I remember singing at an Alzheimer's ward, and seeing some of those people start to sing along from what memory they had left was amazing.
3:20 when your mum tells you to turn off your xbox
he can sing better than me.
same
Jimmy Wang jj
Tanned Mangos and if you care if i am serious or not, its just more sad.
More than being a cyber bully you can be a cyber caring
imma be an old man being reactivated by asap rocky
Lmao!!!
kinda sad but funny
why sad?
lol
ima be reactivated by metal, rock and punk 😊
10 years later and this still gives me the feels.
Justin Simmons so beautiful
Your such a loving grandson.....
Justin Simmons It's sad because I can't play my grandma Dean Martin
She's dead
I still hear it though, it is beautiful music and it reminds me of the grandma I never got to see
This is exactly what I wanted to read!
Old people are so cute! I WANNA GIVE THEM A HUGE HUG!
Yeah But so cute!
😂
Be gentle, please.
They're quite fragile.
Thing1 let me do the pleasure xD
Kylah Franklin no their not
God Bless him🙏 Getting old Truely sucks but I believe when we pass we are restored to our young selves and health.
I thought this was a meme at first, but now I see that it's really nice.
Haha oh my goodness
Jesse Day if it was a meme it would of been this eras shit 😂
Jesse Day It's jail michael
Jesse Day jail michael, are you allowed to listen to music in prison?
Music=Cure for anything
Richard Vargas you sure? my friend died from hearing Sweatshirt
Krimzzon lmao
Oh to my knowledge they don't have Music blasting the hospitals, curing everyone of cancer.
what about crack cocaine? its a hella of a drug
trilingualkid Haha you sound like frank.
Bless his heart!
This is so wonderful! My mother had Lewy Body Dementia. She wouldn't be able to hold much of a conversation but could sing songs from her childhood. Music is very powerful and when you combine it with visuals of things they like it can open them right up.
When you realize "music touches the soul" isn't just a saying
Music is the greatest thing 💕
Beatrice Olivier nah, using cellular respiration and plants using that waste co2 to make oxygen is the best
Beatrice Olivier really
music is for dumb zombies
steve shadforth said the pot
uasuka not really
this broke my heart and brought me joy.
Having worked in her field, I have seen exactly the same response for many individuals having Alzheimer's Dementia and adults with Developmental Disabilities and Autism. Music truly feeds the soul.
Music is the universal language
Wow...
I sexually identify as an alien that hates music and you offend me.
So rude, as a multi-dimensional being, I am offended that you did not mention any of the separate dimensions of other universes...
HOW DARE YOU! I sexually identify as a intergalactic terrorist and music killed our whole species of glip glop in the planet squanch. And now I'm hunting down music to avenge my people.
Voult Bioy your fucking every were wtf
Yeah...I can't wait until I'm 90 and come alive to the sound of Reign in Blood by Slayer
Music is therapy, it is life, it is love, it is timeless. Even when you are older, music can transport you to the past, your favorite times, your favorite memories. Music is eternal, it is a cure, it is a miracle
Its so true for me even now, songs from as recent as 10-15 years ago make me feel better if im down.
Music is just entertainment, geez.
+Kristina S. Not for everyone. For others it's much more, it's a lifeline.
Kristina S. i dont think you're listening to the right type of music then
Faye Water
Any kind of music is beautiful ma dude
Music is the language of the soul , this is beautiful.
What a beautiful video. Seeing Henry come alive. Magic.
someone get this man a real headset!
Anders østensen yes

Anders østensen He needs some Beats by Dre fym 😂😂😂
Get this guy some fuckin Sennheisers!
UncleErnie71 Absolutely some Sennheisers. He'll think he's in the studio with a live band.
There are many reasons why families choose to put their elder members in nursing homes. A huge reason being that the elderly people have health issues that the family aren't able to take care of/the elderly person needs too much supervision.
Don't judge peoples decisions.
I mean, i'll prefer him to live in a place where he can get all his medicines, not suffering in the street because we're homeless
As a domiciliary care worker, I've seen the environments that some people live in at home. I can tell you that 3/4 of the service users live in worse conditions than any care home. And most of them live alone, sitting in one room for the whole day.
interesting, and Unfortunately sad situation, here in italy, same poor conditions
annie10103 I switched out beds at a nursing home, It was a nice environment and the people and nurses all had a good spirit to them... besides one nurse
Sometimes shitty parents get place into shitty homes, too.
When I'm 90.... I'm gonna listen to 90s hop hop all day every day. I can't live without music. It's as important to me as oxygen.
God bless you, Henry! I love his reaction!
i got sad and happy at the same time, anyone else ?
LowSupport yes its beautiful that it makes him happy again but it's also sad that he can't dance to it or really enjoy it but makes you happy again that he enjoys it for what he has
LowSupport it makes me sad because he's suffering but he's coming back to life with his music
Ohhhh the feeeeeellllssss why???????
LowSupport when singing I'll be home for Christmas and he said ohh sadly. tear jerker there
LowSupport 666th like
lmao imagine in 2070 when there is a video about old man in nursing home too,

Mr Tambourine Man
Mr Tambourine Man LMFAO!!!!!!!!
justin bieber song lol "baby"
Mr Tambourine Man lol that's a good one
Mr Tambourine Man *næ næ
Its great to see a husk of a man regain a part of his spirit
Love your parents and care for them as much as you can.
When she took those headphones off he was about to lose it
414MrMilwaukee ;-;
TheRailwaystationist Damn, that's so much sadder than the video
Daniel Carville That's the reality of nursing homes. If you're not there for them, the light goes out.
It's so much more easy to judge ..
OneLastHitB4IGo May your Dad rest in peace
Thank-you Mizan, I appreciate that very much. All my best to you and your family.
OneLastHitB4IGo I don’t know if your religious or not, but I’m sure your father is watching from his new home whichever you may believe it is, and smiling down upon you.
Thank-you, much appreciated. Got my love of "Swing" music from Mom & Pop so I do hope they're swinging it for all their worth. Best to you!.
OneLastHitB4IGo I almost cried at this man. I hope your dad is in a better place now
This brought tears of Joy! I miss my dad & I understand what music did for him!
"He's always quoting scripture." I love it!
I can see it now: "Here's your music, Colby."
"Eh?!? Oh...Oh...kay."
The play button is pressed, and Skrillex blasts in my ears.
"Is the music t-"
(Interrupting) "That's my SHIT!!!!"
*Jumps up and completes a decathlon.*
+Sam Lord Mass heart attack ensues
God bless this man. Remind of my dad who recently pass away.
Oliden Izquierdo Aw im so sorry
Oliden Izquierdo sorry for your loss
Keep your chin up, it's good that you're making a positive out of the negative.
Oliden Izquierdo I am sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss
He went from being non responsive to saying “I’m crazy about music!!!”
Absolutely amazing❤️. I hope this is enacted all over the world.
