Border Tales, Luca Silvestrini’s Protein’s smash-hit commentary on multicultural Britain seen through the eyes of an international cast, is told through dance, live music and dialogue compiled from the performers’ personal experiences. With this broadcast we contribute to breaking down the walls of silence that uphold and sustain ‘borders’ around the world.
“Funny, thought-provoking and consistently entertaining, Border Tales celebrates our differences, acknowledges our sameness and does more to repair the rifts than politics ever could.” - ★★★★★ The Scotsman

Just watched this for my sociology class final paper and I'm very glad I did. When I saw this come out in the middle of my course, I thought it would work perfect for my final but honestly wasn't looking forward to it. Finally got around to watching it tonight (24 hours before the final is due) and once the dialogue started I was hooked. A great topic for my paper, amazing performers and production, and a great experience that I will remember for a long time ❤️❤️❤️
I didn’t get a feel for this production much from
seeing the trailer, but now having watched this the message is clearer and I’m a fan of it 🙌
Wow! Such talented actors - I really enjoyed it.
I absolutely loved it: at the beginning I was a bit disappointed thinking I was not going to like it, but as much as the performance would go on I discover the truth on how we European have often so many prejudices on other cultures. Stereotypes are so rooted in many of us that it is sometimes disgusting. Every culture, every human being can bring its beauty and its diversities to the "party" so that anyone can taste something different and grow and be a better person. Open your mind to the diverse because it would only be good for you. Thank you for this strong message of kindness and this hymn to equality.
Thank you
it's surprised to see a show with Taiwanese....it's been over a year and half didn't go to the theater....
thanks for the performance, I like the idea of the theme, reminds me a lot of memory while work as foreigner
Very compelling, thank you!
Well done, Yuyu and co. Fabulous!
Border Tales focuses on the space between “us” and “them”, with a story told by six party-goers and their host. With an engaging blend of dance, dialogue and live music, the result is a funny, honest and sometimes discomforting commentary on stereotypical thinking and casual racism, portraying Britain as a place where the novelty of cultural diversity has worn off, fusion is starting to taste bland and harmonious living has become rather tricky.
Thanks for the short description of the play greatly appreciated
That makes so much sense, I’m watching it live now and its quite weird, they’re rolling all over the floor 😂 That makes it so much clearer! Thanks :)
Insane level of movement. Extraordinary and complex. Compelling and thought provoking, indeed!
I wonder how long these actors-dancers had to practice? A lot of work went into this…
It took about 2 years to make intermittently, and we rehearse it back to stage, maybe after 2 weeks or less.
I know art is subjective, but I would've been really mad if I'd paid money to see this... Watched 20 minutes and I've had enough. Thank you for uploading though, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would enjoy something like this
That is so rude to say! I also didn't get very involved in the beginning, but I gave it a chance and believe me, it gets really better and the crescendo leads to a harsh reality of how different cultures are treated. How true is the fact that the color of the skin or the shape of the eyes could be just prejudices. On how we tend to categorize people because of their origins. It is not like that and if you will watch it until the end you will realize how every single human being is wonderful and can bring his share to the world.. This is a true real condemnation to how horrible white European can be towards other cultures, other races other persons. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT IN THE END.
@@patroch11 Why are you assuming that Konsider or Aleksandra are White Europeans? How on earth can you be so hypocritical as to claim to be against the prejudices of racism but then attack all white Europeans? Demonstrating that you are in fact racist. Finally - no, not every single human being is wonderful, John Wayne Gacy was not wonderful. Hitler was not wonderful, Idi Amin was not wonderful. Osama Bin Laden was not wonderful. It is not prejudiced to be able to spot and avoid bad people - like your racist self. It is propaganda to state that all people are good when that is demonstrably not the case. It's like saying all berries are good to eat - and if you don't eat the berries of the incredibly poisonous Yew Tree it's because you're prejudiced against Yew Trees.
@@thedirectorschair1054 You are going over board. Of course Hitler and Bin Laden are NOT good human being, but this is not the case here. Here the subject is the prejudices towards simple people, people who are our neighbor that are looked badly just because the are different. I'm sorry but being critical about us white Europeans doesn't mean being racist. You honestly think that a large majority of citizens in Europe are not racists? They are or anyway they very often think they are superior to other races? How many times we have witnessed the behavior shown in the play towards Chinese girls, or black girls? Do you think it is right? Do you consider it normal? I do not. Of course not "all people" are good. But I think that in every race there is bad people and good people. What the play wanted to show is that we consider bad all immigrants just because they are different from us not giving them a single chance to prove their potential values because we look at them and already decide they are bad. There was that wonderful add of a couple with their daughter in a doctor's waiting room. An Indian guy enters and sit next to the girl: the mother moves her on the other side. The doctor arrives and let them into the room all together: the parents are very upset and then the doctor says the guy was the donor of a kidney that saved their daughter's life. Only then they were so ashamed for their previous behavior. So what I want to say is that we must look behind the behind the physical appearance, because often there is something more.
@@patroch11 "I'm sorry but being critical about us white Europeans doesn't mean being racist."
Yes it does.
You are a racist.
Own it.
@@Konsider of course you can say what ever you want. I didn't say you cannot. I only pointed out you did it in a rude way in my opinion. There are so many different ways of expressing art and if at times what we see is not what we like there is anyway the fundamental respect we have to show towards whoever worked on a play: the actors, the writers, the directors. We can say we didn't like it, but saying you would have been "really mad" I think in my humble opinion that it is very rude.
woaa that's some great movement
Why so many ads? It's every few minutes!
I imagine this is exactly what Conservatives think Liberals are "really into"
For me the show is very easy to understand what the director want to say.
How long will it be up? 24h, 48h, 7 days?
til next friday about 2pm EST
As stated in the notes on the teaser, 2026.
@@xfrqlno 5 years until 2026 😂
@@jenniebackman sorry!
9 minutes in and already 2 commercial breaks. Seriously?
I'd love to be able to see Once: the new musical on here!
You will find it on Amazon
The show is talking about real life of people moving to that country and on social media.
I can feel how smart the director think he was
Interesting
It shows all kinds of conscious and un-conscious bias from a westerner perspective. I can’t deny it’s a good show although it could be uncomfortable for lots of people to watch including me.
Never heard of it....?!?
Which is fantastic! I love discovering new works!
Never heard of it either but I will be watching.
CLOSE THE GATE!!!!!
When The League of Gentlemen came up with the Legs Akimbo Theatre Troupe, it was meant to be satire, not a template. In fact go watch The League of Gentlemen, or Psychoville, or Number 9. You'll have much more fun with people who actually know how to write and direct.
Welcome to the downing of theatre. SOOOOO bad.
What have you ever done?
Well, well, well... the dancers are graceful but the work in general... Doesn't work, and look boring,. ( I'm a latin native-black woman and, yeah pal, I know 'bout the fight, k? before someone start to argue )
kind of boring
