I'm down for natural hair videos as entertainment lol, but it's also nice to know that I can apply these things to my hair because i'm not just watching the stereotypical 'Type 4' (4a, lowkey 3c) Natural hair UA-camrs who all have thick, juciy, long hair that looks and acts nothing like mine. My hair is nipple-length now (haha) and when I was relaxed that length was considered really long back in the day when "black girl long" meant hair that went past your shoulders. Now the natural hair community has thousands of women of color with waist length, hip length, butt length and even longer hair. It's getting harder to define what is short and what is medium length these days--but that's a good thing! As long as its healthy, its beautiful at any length!

    • @linkin5961
      @linkin5961 3 роки тому +17

      I would say your hair is long. It's black women who are re-defining what is long hair with ridiculous standards.
      Many white co workers have nipple and bra strap length hair. And consider their hair long. That is one reason I don't follow the natural community much. They will keep a women thinking she is bald even with hair.

    I've been natural for 9 years now and had originally avoided the "wash n go" for years due to fear of knots, etc. To my surprise I discovered that my hair is most happy in a "wash n go" because it just likes to do what it wants to do. It doesn't like to be forced into a twist out, braid out or any other "out" style. She's content now ✊🏾

  • @n2xrcise
    @n2xrcise 4 роки тому +31

    I used to do mine like this but over time I've started adding more gel, more water and my hair has gotten more moisturized and I'm starting to see those coils BEFORE I put the product on and mine ACTUALLY clumps quite easily now. Idk if it's been "trained" to do the wash n go or if the products I'm using are really working well, but I can now just rake the gel through and get the same results you get. And our hair is very, very similar except I'm high porosity.

      @@QueenOfTheDamned Shampoo and conditioner vary depending on how my hair feels. I switch between TGIN the Rx line with the white label, Curls Dynasty and Miche. I always deep condition and I try to add ayurvedic powders to my dc. So far my favorite gel is Wetline. The fancier/more expensive stuff doesn't work consistently for me. I always go back to wetline. I always use a moisturizing leave in. If the line I'm using doesn't have one I like, I use Kinky Curly Knot Today.

    My husband does a wash n go literally everyday for over a year and a half now. He moisturize it daily. He has it down packed. Doesn't take him long. His curls are beautiful. Everybody always think he went to a salon and got a comb twist because his curls are even tighter than yours. He finger combs only and it works wonderfully.

    Had to pause to say - I'd advice against method for 4b/c curls cause it causes massive tangles on wash day. Take it from someone with same texture that has tried it and lost so much hair combing this out.

      I feel you! When it got really flat I usually combatted it by spritzing with a little water, then oil, then gently lifting at the root with a pick or fluffing a bit with my fingers.

    You have more patience than I. My wash n go method is the rake and shake method. I smother sections of my hair in product, detangle/ rake it in until I see clumps and definition. Then when I'm done with my entire head I spray extra water and shake, so my clumps separate naturally and it coils on it's own.

  • @miniminott48

    Your wash and go looks great. You are actually doing the shingling plus coiling method which takes longer to do but lasts quite long. I do the shingling method and my hair lasts 14 days without refreshing but I have medium porosity hair which holds moisture well. I just put on a bonnet at night and in the morning I just fluff and go.

    The coils are beautiful and I think you can get another week out of them. As a Type 4 (with mostly C) I have avoided wash and gos (or wash and stay-puts) because I think it doesn't work, but you have me convinced otherwise! How long did this take? It looks like it's at least three hours or so...

    • @kerubo.k
      @kerubo.k 4 роки тому +6

      I don’t have 4c hair but I use a similar method. It takes me at least 5 hours if I coil? Twirl? My entire head. And I use larger sections so I’d say it took her maybe 5,6 hours?

      I have 4c hair and this was primarily how I used to do my hair (I've only been doing box braids lately). If my memory serves me correctly, it usually took me about 3 to 4 hours, occasionally a little less if I wasn't being as thorough. But your mileage may vary!

      That turned out great! How long have you been testing this 14 day method? What's the detangling process like after 14 days since we shed hair daily? Are you prepooing before washday? How long did it take to dry? Our curls are similar, my hair automatically clumps in the back but the front and sides takes more effort. I tend to do dry WnG with the similar method but 8ts been a while due to protective styling. Gonna give this a try.

      I've been rocking this hairstyle the same as star puppy for the past three weeks. I haven't been getting single strand knots. I just saturate my hair every morning with water throughout the week. Then during the weekend I wash my hair and style. I detangle it by heavily saturating it with water and conditioner after shampooing. I use my fingers to detangle, moving from the ends to the roots of my hair strands.

    OMG. You have to try the anthony dickey rake and shake in the shower method. From on 4C to another, I did not believe this method would work for us. Boy oh boy was I wrong. I just used this method over the weekend. I made a bowl mix of a few gels and added my leave in to the mix. After washing out the deep conditioner in the shower and with hair soaking wet, I raked my gel mix in until my curls clumped. Put a washcloth over my face and shaked until I nearly passed out. Beautiful defined 4C curls all over. I got in 15 minutes what shingling took me 2 hours. No more shingling my whole head from now on. Please give it a try sis.

    Girl your baby ringlet curls are so freaking cute 😍. I see so many people saying that they don’t have the time to do this. But I’m sure they literally give Netflix and UA-cam a whole work shift worth of time every week. It’s only twice a month you would have to do this or once a month if you just want to do a wash and go for have of the month. Well you did an amazing job girly and it makes me happy to see you happy 😊.

    This! Thank you for this! My partner and I have been trying to crack the code of styling his 4C hair for a little while now and this video has been the most helpful one I’ve seen so far! Thanks for making this video (and all of your other ones) so detailed- you were one of the first channels I watched re. his hair because (obviously) I was clueless when it came to caring for textured hair. Have you ever tried the Anthony Dickey Wash n GO method for kinky hair? It takes a good amount of time in the shower, A LOT of conditioner/gel, and you're definitely going to need a blow dryer if you don't want to wait 3 days for your hair to dry but it gives good results, from my experience!
