Stephanie Marie I have both and never thought my diet contributed to my acne until I was told I was pre-diabetic. I changed my diet and noticed a HUGE change with my cystic acne. Especially from all the sugar & carbs. What a difference!

Stephanie Marie i suffered this last year from cystic adult acne. what finally worked for me is cutting out cow milk from my diet. and using gentle cleansers along with prescribed retinol cream.

I got rid of rosacea with Darphin Intral Redness Relief Recovery Balm. Something very important is the fact that when i had bowel problems, rosacea and sensitivity were very obvious, so I changed my diet and started FODMAP diet. I am 6 months without redness with the darphin cream and the diet. That worked for me!

You hit the nail on the head...diet. Certain foods cause inflammation in the body. Diet effects everything, every ailment we have. I also have rosacea, and my skin clears up so nice when I get back on my keto diet and intermittent fasting...aka healthy eating...works for me. Another thing, many doctors won't talk about diet. They only "manage" symptoms. They practice "medicine"...which keeps the pharmaceutical business going, which keeps the doctors going...etc, etc.

I laugh whenever videos start out with, "Make sure you talk to your doctor/dermatologist/etc. before doing anything" simply because I have had so many bad experiences with doctors. My conclusion is - doctors do not "heal" you, they simply prescribe meds (that usually mask any underlying issues). Thank you for the video, you gave many helpful tips for getting to the root of my rosacea :)

I started treatment with a totally organic skin toner, as supplied by Neil Beglin of Highly Effective Ltd.
After a period of 1 year, applying the skin toner to the affected area 3 times a day has now produced some very positive results:
The rhinophyma has greatly reduced in size.
The skin colour is returning back to near normal colour
Any surface veins have totally disappeared
The cheeks are less puffy or swollen
The forehead is less puffy or swollen
Overall the facial skin returning to normal and looks healthier.
      Stops excessive sebaceous activity
The most incredible thing is that the bulbous rhinophyma is definitely shrinking in size, do others treatments do that?
I have taken the antibiotics for a period of 6 years together with beta-blockers to lower my blood pressure not that I had high blood pressure, it was to reduce the blood flow which in turn would reduce the oxygen supply to the demodex bugs, have had microsurgery to remove the veins on my face, and of course laser treatment which came at a premium.
The other things the skin toner is very good in treating acne, athletes foot and other bodily fungal ailments, firms up skin tone and reduces wrinkles, can be used as a toothpaste, stops itching. I also have dark patches appear on my fingers and knuckles, these too disappear with the application of the skin toner.
I drink and eat whatever I like, there is no diet control involved!
Anyone interested in this highly cost effective skin toner should get in touch with Neil Beglin for distribution and general information:

Thank you for discussing this. Also, for discussing diet and the impact. I don’t understand why Doctors don’t want to discuss diet. I suffer from adult acne and migraines and Doctors just really glossed over diet. I did a lot of research and found food elimination had the biggest impact on both of the acne and migraines. But it is frustrating that I had to do the research on my own. I’m now 40 years old and now I’ve finally found most food triggers in my life, but I’ve been suffering since my 20’s. That’s a sad commentary on our medical system.

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  6 років тому +1

I JUST replied to Michele Kallus re: migraines about 20 seconds ago! Same. I don't know if doctors don't want to take the time to do it or are jaded by non-compliant patients who aren't invested in their health enough and won't do the diet fully so they just don't bother. I too, found the diet thing in my late 30s and when it's in check, my migraines, skin, stomach, sinuses, energy, brain fog, etc are all SO MUCH better. It's crazy!

You have to remember most conventional doctors don't know much about diet. Your integrated/functional medicine doctors have a clearer understanding. In 2016 I was having a lot of bloating and feeling like I had rocks in my stomach. I went to the GI where she immediately put me on Zantac which I knew wasn't the answer, but a band-aid. I decided to seek out a functional medicine doctor and she knew almost right away that I had SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) and tested to confirm. She put me on the Low FODMAP diet to starve off the overgrowth of bacteria for 6 months. I haven't had a problem since. I still eat pretty clean and continue to incorporate some of her suggestions. I had eliminated gluten during the diet, but I don't any more and haven't had have any problems. I too am a migraine sufferer. Mine had gotten worse prior to the SIBO diagnosis. They are back to "normal" and are hormonal for the most part. As a result I stay on the pill continuously only allowing for three periods a year. When those weeks come around I have a migraine everyday and have to take Immitrex. My doctor says that once I go through menopause the migraines should go away:) Something to look forward to I suppose. I am glad you are getting on top of your migraines and acne.

Thank you for your discussion of rosacea. It’s something you rarely hear about. I’ve had rosacea for 25 years. I’ve used metronidazole, which helped. I also discovered essential oils that have helped also. frankincense and melaleuca. I apply these morning and evening and it decreases the redness and the tiny acne-like bumps. This is definitely a heartbreaking condition and can be very embarrassing at times. I’ve learned so much from your experiences and you presented solutions in a very organized, easy to follow way. Thank you again.

Acne as an adult has been the most frustrating thing... I’m 49 this year and had to go the route of spirolactonate to help because menopause has introduced a whole new aspect of acne I had never seen before. It works great with the cystic acne on the jawline but then I still get pimples from time to time. I use differin and clindamycin gel to help... switching to retin A next when I run out of differin.... such a pain !!! Lol great informative video!!! 😘😘

It is always so helpful to hear about what others have tried for rosacea. I have such a bad case of it. My triggers are def sun, wine, exercise, spicy food, colloidal oatmeal, dog dander, and the list continues.. I’ve finally found two products that are helping- an oil (you are so right) and a cleanser that my face loves. When I eat a clean diet my face is certainly happier- so thanks for the motivation. I really enjoyed this video.

Another biggie is soy, both topical and eaten. I also have rosacea and migraines and a crazy gut! I have given up gluten, soy, avocado (a true allergy), most dairy and beef and pork. The last time I had beef my back and scalp were covered with folliculitis. That took almost two months to heal. I have several contact allergies that are in lots of skincare and makeup. Bees wax, propylene glycol, fragrance, BHT and several others. It’s a struggle but my head, gut and skin are soooo much happier. Hope this is helpful for someone. Thank you for starting the conversation. ☺️

Finacea (prescription Azelaic acid) has been a life saver for me. Like you, I had zero skin issues as a teen. I only started breaking out in my early twenties my last year of college and into grad school. Stress was a huge trigger and I had to go on Accutane during grad school because nothing else the derm tried worked. That worked like a charm, but anyone who has ever taken Accutane (Isotretinoid) knows it’s not a fun experience (very dry skin; muscle aches; etc.). I did one 20 week round of Accutane and that kept me clear for over 15 years, but I started breaking out again pretty badly a couple of years ago when I stopped breastfeeding my last kid (I was 39). I blamed it hormones, but shortly after I stopped nursing, bam! Acne erupted full force. I decided to try the Differin gel which is now over the counter and that WAS NOT SMART! My skin went crazy! I went to my derm ready to ask for the Accutane and he told me I had Rosacea and that we were going to try the Finacea and a round of antibiotics first. Thank God for this man, because that combo got my skin cleared up super fast. I will still get some redness if I drink, for example, but the acne is no longer an issue. I’ve only told this story to encourage anyone suffering with adult acne to go see a dermatologist and get a proper diagnosis. If you are not responding to typical acne treatment, it may be rosacea.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I, too, suffer from acne and rosacea and have spent so much trying to get it under control. I agree diet is a huge trigger; I’m dairy, gluten, grain and soy free. I just started Curology which includes azelaic acid and that has been quite helpful. I also discovered the REN Evercalm line at Sephora and that has done wonders. I have had difficulty with sunscreens so I am going to check out that PC one you listed. Thanks again!

Thank you for this video. At the age of 60 I am experiencing my first rosacea flare up. My entire face right to my hair line and under my chin. Red, swollen, bumpy, burning, itching mess. Two days in out of desperation called my doctor for an emergency appointment. I have 3 prescriptions; two internal and one topical and they have helped greatly. I am still pretty red and blotchy with flaking now. Now I am in the process of learning how to care for my skin and control the rosacea. My life has been especially stressful lately which I think probably is on of the triggers that set it off. I am quit disappointed this evening to discover that dairy such as feta is a trigger. Guess that will be my last salad with feta on it. Thank you again. I love your channel.

The simple fact that you recommend Tarte Maracuja Oil ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had sworn off skincare for years because everything I tried in order to deal with my acne would dry me out and hurt (I believed I had oily skin because I had acne) and then I started putting this oil on my face (for non-skincare reasons) and I was BAFFLED by how much my skin loved it!
It’s been several years now and I’ve gotten really really into skincare and the science behind it, so I use more than just this oil. But for a long time, this oil alone moisturized, did not break me out, prevented further acne, HELPED MY REDNESS ❤️, and even gave me a glow. Tbh I haven’t found another straight up face oil that my skin likes but it loves this one so thank you thank you thank you for recommending it to others. It’s Awesome!

I tried the antibiotics. But I am allergic to so many. I tried the cream for awhile and couldn't see a difference. I had been on Trention . Before this. Well I am back on it. I don't flush just when I wash my face. I get little bumps. Foods do make a difference in inflammation. I have different conditions like fibromyalgia and Arthritis that makes it worse. I’m do glad you mentioned the diet component! It is frustrating that dermatologists almost never talk about it, but I assume it’s bc they rely strictly on clinical trial/medically proven studies. But....if no one is doing a long term study on diet and inflammation, then they’re never going to receive those “clinical results”! My skin always reacts to how healthily I’m eating. Sugar is the number one trigger for me, followed by simple carbs, since they are so easily converted to sugar in the body.
I loved this video and would love to see more “sensitive skin” themed videos on your channel! 😊

I have been struggling to find a good foundation for not just focused areas but for general redness all over. Green correctives have been useless and I don’t like the heavy full coverage makeup, nor the mineral makeup. It makes my pores waaaay more notable. The struggle is real.

This was an excellent and in-depth video. You definitely hit the nail on the head regarding inflammation and stress as being major factors. I believe I have rosacea but not with the redness; it’s the little bumps on my one cheek & forehead that don’t go away. I used to think it was just clogged pores. I also believe I may have ocular rosacea but my ophthalmologist is still on the fence about it. I’m thinking a dermatologist may be more qualified to diagnose it. I’ve done research on it...this can be a very challenging issue since it’s not too common where the eyes are concerned as it seems to come and go in my case. Thank you for sharing your personal story and enlightening so many ppl; you’re very knowledgeable and seem to have a better grasp of this than many doctors, especially when it comes to looking at this internally. 👍👏

A good ophthalmologist should be well versed in ocular rosacea and able to diagnose...I worked in eye care for several years. Dermatologists are all about the skin while ophthalmologists should know anything and everything about the eyeball and all that pertains to the glands, lids, etc surrounding the eye...even ocular rosacea. It wouldn't hurt to ask your derm about it but you may need to switch physicians in order to get a proper diagnosis. I wouldn't mess around with it though because it can be damaging to the cornea. And you only get one shot with your eyes so you need to take care of them! Thank you Susan! 😘

Stephanie Marie Thanks so much Stephanie! I am vigilant when it comes to my eyes since I have vitreous issues and my dad had glaucoma for 20 yrs. I go every 3-6 months to my ophthalmologist...and like you recommend, I will seek another opinion since this doctor cannot give me a definitive answer. I figured it couldn’t hurt to discuss this with a dermatologist as well. I appreciate all of your helpful input; it is greatly appreciated.💜

@@StephanieMarie hey Stephanie, just wondering how azelaic acid has helped your rosacea ? I tried prescription azelaic acid and I just felt it dried out my skin and made it feel quiet itchy....I did not notice any difference after using it for about 3weeks ...I suffer type 1rosacea so I have background redness with broken capillaries and episodes of flushing which cause my skin to burn.Do you have background redness and flushing ? I use prescription strength tretonoin 0.5 every night and it does not seem to make my rosacea any worse however I do experience peeling on occasion...

Wheat (or maybe gluten in general and high carb/sugar stuff) and Dairy are unfortunately painfully flaring me up too. Oh and Coffein, sometimes chocolate/cacao too. :(

At the age of soon 36 I struggle with skin condition like Rosacea and fungal acne. And growing up I never had issues with acne prior to 2019, nor have I ever had acne prone skin. Of course the occasional pimple max 2 on and around my nose whenever I ate junk/sugar. But that’s it. Ironically I never used skincare products nor sunscreen growing up not far into adulthood. Not until I started skincare did I suddenly begin to have issues, and when I introduced cleansers, toners, serums, and sunscreen into the mix I suddenly destroyed my skin, and I ended up with sensitive Rosaces and possibly fungal acne skin. Nothing works, and I’ve tried it all let it be hyped and famous skincare, even for my skin type and condition, it still breaks me out. I’m also lactose intolerant, allergic to the milk protein it self, besides allergic to almonds, several food intolerances and severe grass allergy which I’ve had since the age of 13. All the food I grew up eating growing up in Norway during the 90’s and 2000’s, now makes me sick. I’m battling depression and anxiety as a trauma survivor of bullying and abuse, and was also diagnosed with diabetes type 2 this past January. I’m also a certified hairdresser and MUA and I also got Alopecia Areata. Of course all of this is connected due to the gut, body and mind are all affected by chronic stress which leads to inflammation. I also recently learned that vitamin D deficiency which I have, and is also extremely common here in northern Europe Scandinavia due to the lack of enough sun, can also lead to diabetes. I know dairy, sugar, and gluten among many other foods are Rosacea triggers, and I’m sick and tired of it all. Diabetes and being allergic to the protein in cow milk already made eating difficult, Rosacea made it even more restrictive. And sometimes I give up and eat what I shouldn’t, and of course flare ups. I also get bacne which I never had before. Sick and tired of having ugly skin. Red inflamed skin, red bumps and hives. When I stay away from all these foods, manage stress and feel overall better, my skin is clear, but this is seldom. And so many skin care products contain ingredients I’ve found over the past 3 years that break me out. Tried everything let it be European, Korean and Japanese. Too much actives, chemical exfoliants, plant juices, extracts and oils. Even products geared towards or for sensitive and Rosacea skin, and fungal acne products break me out.

My blood tests didn't show up any major abnormalities so of course I've been frustrated in what could be causing my acne. This video has helped a lot. I’m turning 50 in 2 months and struggled with constant breakouts mostly my late teens and 20s and actually always had that super fair Skin (where even in gym class as a 6 year old I’d be so red in the face from exercise) until I finally took accutane. For 5 years after I was blemish free and perfect ...since then I have the sort of skin that I can get stopped by strangers and get compliments ...but I have been diagnosed with rosacea in the last 5 years... it’s very unpleasant mentally and painful irritation even when it doesn’t look that bad .... I know the winters and heaters are especially harsh for me ... can’t drink alcohol especially red wine , can’t use any vitamin c which leaves me out of rose oils and any exfoliating types of products whether aha or peel or retinol just the worst. I use purpose soap and cerave... so any recommendation would be helpful I may add I’m not oily I’m more dehydrated...so I fear for my texture because I can’t find good products to nourish.. I have metro cream but only use it occasionally because I feel it’s drying... what do you think of the hyaluronic acid gel craze? It’s partially why I use cerave because it’s in there ... but in its own ? Do you use have a favorite... thanks again!!!!

I LOVE HA! But I do find you should usually use it with moistened fingers or a freshly misted face so it won't suck moisture from your skin. It draws moisture from somewhere and you want it to be an external source. I think Skinmedica's is one of the best on the market b/c it helps us regenerate our own HA again. 😘

Thank you so very much for this video. I struggle with cystic acne. Perfect skin until age 37 or 38...I'm going to be 47 in a week. This is some great information and gives me a couple of different things to think about or try besides skincare and creams. I do take spirolactone and although it hasn't been the answer to my acne prayers, I continue to take it because it's been great for my blood pressure (go figure, lol.) I have actually wondered about diet. There's no question mine is hormonal (PCOS), but i am worried about taking too much hormones due to my family history and risks of cancer...but I am trying to figure out steps I can take to try to help my condition as much as possible- minus hormones or accutane. Skincare has been a struggle for me but I do think I've gotten close to finding a collection that works well. I can say you are sooo right about 'acne' skincare...for some, I know it has worked for them, which is great...but inevitably when I use it my sensitive skin goes haywire. Some have worked for a few weeks, maybe a month or two...but it never provides long term results. Gentle is the way to go. I do use a retinoid (not retinol) at night, but I pair that with a gentle, hydrating cream and it seems to work well.
I honestly felt compelled to type this way too long post (sorry) before looking at your recommendations so you might have mentioned these, but I can't recommend Skinfix enough. It is a Canadian skincare brand sold online at Ulta. They are amazing. The products feel soothing and healing on my skin. I still struggle a bit with my acne, but it does seem to be improving a little. I guess the better way to word it is I'm confident the products aren't making it worse, or causing major flare ups.
A very gentle but effective sunscreen that is working well for me is from Skin Laundry. Another line sold online only at Ulta. It's $25 or $30 (fairly resonable).
Again, thanks for the video. Your skin looks amazing. It really does give me hope.

I am 55 and have rosacea which started attacking my nose, redness to the point of purpleness, swelling, cystic acne, large pores, etc. It's been a battle and NOTHING derm's offer help. In my opinion, dermatologists are worthless. I've been seeing improvement through a GFDF lifestyle, following the Anthony Williams "Miracle Medium" books and also using Dr. Bronner's almond/lavender soap but this past week I started a regime with Beautycounter. It's a sample kit that has really helped with the redness and breakouts. It's pricey and has some ingredients that are reactionary to me so I'm looking to Pai skincare. The ingredients are pure botanicals and are not encumbered with any synthetic/chemical filth. Have you any experience with this brand? There are other rosacea sufferers on youtube who swear by Pai Rosehip serum, so I figure the rest of the line is worth a try as it's formulated specifically for Hypersensitive skin.

Vanicream saved my skin and I have oily Rosacea. I use finacea too and I still get little whiteheads. I think I’m intolerant to any sunscreens and they are always mineral sunscreens and I got many Papules and pustules . I went to an esthetician while I was at the dermatologist office and showed her my Paula’s Choice mineral sunscreen for oily skin and she studied the ingredients and she said it contains pore clogging ingredients. That was my primary sunscreen at the time. ELTA md mineral sunscreen also makes my skin angry.

I've been using Clinique's skincare line specifically for rosacea it's called "redness salutations" I believe. I have had wonderful results. It's a cleanser, moisturizer and a green daily base with spf 15 I believe. They also have a foundation in their rosacea line too but I find it a little too much coverage for me. For the most part I've got my skin in check now and don't like to pile on a lot of heavy foundation. I really don't want anything too much more than a tinted moisturizer.
I also use Drunk Elephant's TLC night serum. It has done wonders for the texture I have experienced in the past with rosacea.

My triggers are gluten, dairy, sugar, spicy foods, wine, heat but honestly STRESS is the biggest one. I developed rosacea and cystic acne during my senior year in high school. I was under a lot of stress, drinking a lot and I was having daily anxiety attacks. No matter how much I fix my diet and incorporate exercise into my routine if I don't have my anxiety under control my skin spirals back to it's old stage. As a person with a history of several mental health issues it's really hard for me to keep my rosacea/acne at bay :(

What did help was Spironolactone which is a drug used for congestive heart failure and kidney disease but is also known to help hormonal acne. This was prescribed through my dermatologist. I also have Celiac Disease and while eliminating wheat and gluten helped, I still wasn’t quite right. I learned from my gastroenterologist that most Celiacs are also lactose intolerant. By eliminating most dairy it cleared up my skin and gut issues.

What i found is that my skin reacts to heat, cold and all sorts of weather types and temperature differences. I use all products on my skin without parfums cause it burns, i use olive oil to remove my makup. Always worked best. Also some years ago i developed blepharitis after an allergic reaction to mascara. I dont know if it was rosacea starting and that caused the blepharitis and reaction or if the rosacea started as a inflammation reaction on the allergic reaction. What i do know is that i am also allergic to hairdye so please be carefull with that. I dont use mascara ever since cause i develop styes really easily on my eyelids. I use warm washcloths for my eyes every day to drain the glands. I have very light skin and blue eyes. My problems become worse with heating, airplanes, dry air in buildings, stress, change from hot/cold weather and not going to bed early. Also spicy foods. I almost always wear sunglasses even when its cloudy cause my eyes are so sensitive to light. And my eyelids react to cold weather and wind, also when it rains and the rain comes in contact with my face in the wind its triggers red blushing and red eyelids. I think a lot of it has to do with the blood vessels under the skin over reacting. I can tolerate some wines, only when i had food and only bio/eco wines for some reason. Some tips: wear sunscreen, dont shower hot, use creams that have no parfum or much chemicals. Go to bed early have plenty of rest. Check your shampoo, it can also trigger problems on the face and eyelids.

Rosacea plagued my life for nigh on twelve years and I'd given up all hope. Then I read some great online feedback regarding a cream called proskin rosacea. Now I was well aware about being let down before and know that what works for one may not work for someone else but this cream was a revelation for me and my red wine coloured bumpy spotty skin has literally fallen off as healthy skin has replaced it. I don't look like the same person. I just had to put this out there.

My teenage daughter suffers from acne and I have been having the hardest time finding her a suitable foundation... I have probably purchased over 2 dozen foundations for her in the past 2 years and they all seem to flare up her acne. Of course she is a teenager and thinks that she has to try the latest and most popular options that the younger UA-cam stars mention 😑. I have been buying her the entire differin system lately which has definitely helped. Any suggestions you have are always appreciated and so helpful. I have always trusted everything that you and Risa tell me and I learn so much from both of you! Thanks again!!!!

My friend's daughter has extremely sensitive skin and is the same way. In the end, she needs mineral foundations that don't contain bismuth oxychloride. I've told her to let her know that the skin products don't matter...no one knows or cares about that but they will notice the condition of her skin at some point. So getting that under control is super important. She can be "cool" with the eye makeup and lips! 😜 Yes, I do love the pearls and ran out of them a while back and haven't repurchased and I can tell a huge difference in terms of stomach and bloat. I need to get them again! Thank you! 😘

Thanks 🙏 great video! I had a similar experience. I had to cut out all things gluten and niño longer drink milk. I do allow myself a little cheese in the morning. Also CANDIDA is an important issue to mention, since bacterial overgrowth may cause acne or fungal acne. Candida feeds of starchy carbs etc. So again, a high protein low carb or healthier carb diet may help.

Thank you thank you thank you! I suffer from adult acne and have tried different dermatologists and products without much success. Probably a nutritional issue i am thinking after seeing this. But lots of good tips to try! Thank you again.

I just seen this video. I just learned that I have Rosacea. I am needing to learn as much as I can. Thank you for having this on. I was put on antibiotic and a cream. I might be asking questions.

Thank you so much for this information. I have rosacea and absolutely hate it!!! My triggers are Carmine, alcohol, being too hot and being embarrassed (oh and BTW - I do get embarrassed when my Rosacea flairs up so you can see the bad circle there). I have to say I call the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness concealer cream my magic in a jar. It really does help cover my redness and I use it every day under my foundation. Curious if anyone has tried laser treatments for rosacea? I am thinking about going in for a consultation. Thanks again.

I sufer from the same issues as you do and also cannot understand why dermatologists do not mention diet. It's ridiculous. The microbiome health has to do with the health of every part of us. I am vegan and low fat and gluten free and it has made the world of different. Animal products are HIGHLY acidic and also contain zero fiber. Two terrible things for our health. At least this horrible situation forces us to research and become more knowledgeable. Great video. THANKS! PS I DO use Retin-A.
