- I've been doing 2021 Hello Fresh unsponsored reviews where I bought the meals for 2 with 3 recipes per box. I wanted to do a series of Hello Fresh reviews not sponsored to not have any kind of financial bias. I showed myself unboxing and cooking the recipes. I've tried a variety of recipes from pastas to salads to rice bowls. Overall, I've came to the conclusion that Hello Fresh is not worth all the hype that it gets as being the "#1 meal kit delivery" service. This is NOT the best meal delivery service for weight loss.

I'd be annoyed if I had to make a trip to the store, too...but come on, you don't have salt, pepper, butter, and oil already? That's like complaining that the box doesn't come with a stove and pans.

The website actually DOES break down the discounts for your first 5 orders and the pull down menu shows you all meals for the next 4 weeks. As for the missing ingredients, I'd be mad as hell if I had to keep opening little packets of salt and pepper etc... They're all basic kitchen staples.
Very true. The only good point made was portion size and that they do claim to be healthy but it is not very healthy. But then again I view hello fresh as a substitute for ordering out. I rather eat hello fresh then most restaurants. Especially for me it’s cheap, not really that expensive imo. I can’t imagine living in a house with no butter, salt or any oil lmfao the lady in the video seems to have more personal problems after seeing the end then actually not liking the food lmfao

I think you need to reframe your expectations of the service which is being provided. Sure everything ultimatly will have to be affordable to your budget but this service is what one might call a luxury. The luxury is that your meals come to your door. You don't really have to dedicate time out your week to grocery shop. No setting aside 2 hours of your afternoon, no standing in line, no traversing traffic in your car. All you have to do is open your refrigerator and there will be something there you can eat. Every so often you will need to restock the basics. Salt, pepper, butter and olive oil. And you need cookware as well LOL!. And even though Hello fresh may be a a little on the expensives side ultimately coming in at about $9 or $10 a serving, it is not outside of what you would pay for carryout. Not to mention I save loads of money by way of just staying out the grocery store because everytime I enter a market I buy way more items then I came to get in the first place. So now that I have share my perspective on this service the question is the food itself. The food is good. I am a single male and I don't cook but now I do and I even enjoy whipping up a little something for guests when they visit. This food is not exactly what one can call fine dining but it does offer elements of sklled preparation that is resturant quality. Finally if you want to nit pic I am sure there is plenty things to find but this service is not designed to cater to a single individual, in fact this is a business which serves thousands or even a million people every week so there will be some mistakes and some concessions .

Yeah but you can get your groceries to your door as well. And if they really wanted to be a luxury service. They would actually prepare the meal for you and deliver it the next day...For the money you are paying they should at least chop the veggies for you. Also if it was a luxury service, you would have like 10-20 items to choose from included in the same box price..(not additionally priced.) so you can actually eat what you like not what they forced you to eat.
@@mariaguild2024 Your take on what you would consider a luxury leaves room for you to start your own enterprise. I am commenting on what exists not how it can meet your expectations. I am really not trying to sound condesending or anything of the kind. But you know a luxury does not necessarliy mean luxurious and full service . It also is the act of choosing to pay a little extra in order to save yourself from having to do something all yourself. And in this case that can mean not leaving the house or driving your car to the store. No waiting in lines or any number of things you would avoid dealing with if you used this kind of service. We don't need to talk about what more if could do.
Grocery stores also have delivery services these days and somehow still end up cheaper than Hello Fresh, funny that. Also, looking up recipes online is easy and many of them come with instruction videos at no additional cost outside of your internet bill. Pointless service is pointless.

So no one is going to talk about the fact that when Hellofresh messed up the order they REACTIVATED their account and charged them more without asking ??? No? Okay.
You also are forgetting you are paying for someone to grocery shop for you for your main meal .. this cuts down on about an hour to two hours a week of planning and gathering . If your time is valuable the hour or two saved per week more than makes up the difference than what your spending at a grocery store - it is also a nice starter kit to learn how to cook .. which is not an easy thing to learn by yourself if you are busy throughout the week ..
Different strokes for different folks. I can get 6 meals delivered to me for the cost of 1 night of going out.. huge win for me . I dont see myself not eatting from a box for a long time
Two co-workers ordered Hello Fresh and said basically the same thing: The food is expensive for what you get and the portion sizes are small. For an every-once-in-a-while busy week, I can see that this would be okay. As a regular subscription product, I will pass.

Thank you for your honesty I wanted to try it but every time I submitted the discount code I always felt hesitat finishing my order. Also I've been screwed on my account with gyms and other so called healthy company's. Keep up the good work and now I'm more glad to not have ever bought from this company just gonna stick to cooking.

You seem to have ordered these meal kits with no idea what they are. I’ve never even ordered one, and I knew that basic kitchen ingredients, like salt pepper and oil, aren’t included. And I also know how subscriptions work, so I’m way ahead of you there. These are not diet meals. And 800-900 calories for a dinner meal is not unreasonable.
It's not misleading if they say it's not included. And also, all packs come for 2 or 4 people. This 900 something calorie meal you're referring to is supposed to be divided in half. I think you're misleading, not them.
Yea. I lost weight with their other company, Everyplate, doing tge 3 meals for 2 ppl, and eating one a day, for 6 days, and doing a big salad or sandwich for lunch. And eggs & stuff for breakfast

The shouting with distortion was hard to listen to. I only made half-way through. Of course the food will be expensive individually packaged with mail order. Almost everything promoted through aggressive advertising is shit. But just because a meal has a decent size, doesn't mean it's nutrition is low. 900 kcal is about right for 1 out of 3 meals.
You can actually choose all your meals for your next 7 boxes so you could do it all at once and save it
Honestly was such a good thing for me to eat a solid amount of food and on the healthy side. If you struggle with eating out to much or wasting some groceries because you default to easy meals this is for you :)
Precisely, they also help with variety..... Honestly they're sending me stuff I would have never made on my own or even have ordered in a restaurant

I just ordered mine and I got it today I thought my food was good. It is high but you spend that anyway at the grocery store and eating out. So I'm ok with spending $40 a week I spend more than that with takeout every day. I believe that you reduce you food waste because I go to grocery store and spend so much money on food and it goes bad within the week. At least with hello fresh they send me what I need I use all of it and nothing wasted. I did not expect hello fresh to have the bare necessities like butter oil etc you should have that. I followed the directions and it wasn't the best so I added my own seasonings and it was great. When you cook or follow a recipe that's what you do. I would reccomend HF that's just my opinion.

I feel like I’ve been yanked out of the jaws of death by this video. Watched the whole video and literally all five of your points were concerns of mine after getting halfway through the order process and seeing that the “12 free meals” are spread out over several orders. I stopped right then and there and came to YT to watch *unsponsored* reviews of this service before thinking about handing over my debit card #.
I 100% believe your experience. These ppl lying about discounts from the jump. RED FLAGS abound w/ HF. I’m going to look at Blue Apron next and if they like to pull these sorts of dishonest practices, then I guess it’s meal prep like you said, but I really need to lower my insane grocery bill (~$600/mo) and figured these pre-packaged/portioned meal delivery companies couldn’t be more expensive than what I’m already paying😅🤷🏾♀️

Lots of companies do this kind of thing to keep you as a customer. It’s motivation to keep ordering. You don’t have to keep ordering, but then you can’t get the rest of the free meals. It’s like if you get a sign on bonus to take a job, but then you have to sign an agreement that you will work there for a certain amount of time, or forfeit the bonus. I took a job once that gave me a $5000 sign on bonus, but I had to work there for 2 years to get it all. They didn’t give it all to me at once, either. It was portioned out over the 2 years.

Its pretty simple to go online and choose what meals you want, Also it tells you what else you need from home to cook the meal. #1 you gotta pay for the guy who's delivering it. #2 fuel cost, #3 if they working late hours at night. I buy this every week and so far the meals are good.
I cook it all up for dinner, then next day i eat the left overs at work for lunch.

I tried HF, & I agree with everything she said, except for it not tasting good. I mean sure they aren't 5 stars or anything, but they are tasty.
However, tasty isn't worth $60 every 2 weeks for.

I used to use hello fresh but cancelled recently. The first box was 19.99 the second 29.99 and the third 49.99 which would have been ok but honestly the portion size was ridiculously small in all three boxes. They also fill the box with mostly the same ingredients. Despite the different meal combinations, a lot of the ingredients are the same so your essentially getting mostly the same ingredients in almost every box. Even though i picked a balanced meal and then one with meat themed dishes, my boxes were still always filled with small packets of rice, the same vegetables, lots of small packets of sauces, beans, lentils and chopped tomatoes in cartons etc etc and one or two small packets of meat. Thats when i realised that its largely a scam. They buy ingredients in bulk so their literally paying next to nothing for vegetables and things like rice/pasta etc etc. Meat for them would be more expensive which is why you only get very small portions of meat.
Also their idea of portion sizes are not my idea of portion size. Their portion sizes for 2 people is literally one for me and I'm a guy of average build. Also their discounts dont work. The best thing you can do is get a box then cancel straight away and keep the meal ideas then buy the ingrediants from green grocers and butchers for cheaper.

I just got my first box and I've made two meals so far. I recommend buying the ingredients at the store and season it the way you want. I was pissed they forgot the fry seasoning needed for one of the meals. Then I Googled it and it says it's equal parts garlic powder, onion powder and paprika lol I have all that in my cabinet. Nothing special about that fry seasoning.
I canceled my order because I didn't feel right about it. Now watching this in glad I did. I'm new to your channel. Thanks for this review.

I’ll tell you why they started to disburse out the discount / free meals. I was in a coupon group, a couple actually and they were getting the free meals because the deal was you would get the first week / meals for free and it would basically be free if you signed up for the subscription. But they would immediately cancel.
So they were smart for cutting that out. You know some mess it up for everyone else. Anyhoo thank you for talking me out of it. I’m a great cook and I thought 💭 about it for a moment to try some new meals / foods I might not buy on my own. But yea I’m just gonna keep doing what I’m doing. 😂 Thank you for trying it and letting me know.

@@dietdevan5155 I don't know, possibly. Also, they wrote on the website, that you need your own salt, pepper and oil. Right now I got they "deal" offer for next few weeks. We got 4 people x 5 meals. My brother in law is doing it for a long time (single guy) and was quite happy with it. I think I will do it for 8 weeks and than try Blue Apron for 8 weeks and compare both :). We cook from scratch most of the time, so having meals that are "composed" for us, will be nice change. Will definitely bring some variety to our meals.
@@krecikowi for me the issue was that with every sponsorship video I seen or their ads that they market that you get all of your ingredients delivered to your home. I had no issue with them not providing salt, oil, or pepper. It was just the way that they market it. I hope you and your brother in law continue to enjoy Hello Fresh 😊

Cancelling and deactivating your account is not enough to get rid of HelloFresh, you have to put it in writing that you want to TERMINATE your account, and that request takes 45-60 days. Otherwise, they will hold on to your account info and continue to charge you.
OMG Devan! Thank you for this honest review… All the auto shipping and rules about how credit can be spent is super scamy! It is obviously not for people who are on a weight-loss journey… 😳And why make it so hard to cancel??!!
The only thing I will defend them on is not having the “basic” ingredients in the box… I think most people will have the oil, salt, and pepper in their pantry, even if they just purchase it for the first box, they will then have it for future boxes. When we go on vacation and rent a house, the vacation houses usually have oil, salt, and pepper supplied in the kitchen.
That being said… I will not ever be using hello fresh, yours is the only honest review I have seen! ❤️
I guess my house is uncommon because I had to go buy olive oil since I didn’t have any 😅 but hopefully one day that can become a better company.

I got my first box they messed my order. They gave me one wrong meal which was a meat meal I picked all veggie recipes, though they missed out the meat. Got two lots of cheese that didn’t go with any of the recipes. Also one of the meals meson ingredient was sweet potato, I got one very small potato that is suppose to do two people? It’s not worth it in my opinion.

Yikes Devan. I'm in Canada so don't know if this applies in the states. Can this be reported to the credit card company and have the charge for the unsolicited box reversed. Do you have a better business bureau? This is really a form of fraud to continue to send boxes after cancellation. I'm part of grocery subscription service. Each week they send me an email showing what they're sending. I can make changes, or cancel the order that week if I don't need anything. They are an honest company I like doing business with.
A company like that sounds great!! For me what bothered me about Hello Fresh that they only notified me when my order shipped. It was never like “hey don’t forget to choose which meals you want this week”

I’ve been eating fast food almost once a day. Seems like this is a good start to shift over to cooking my own food. Biggest problem for me is figuring out what I need and walking through the grocery store. Although this is expensive, it’s still less expensive than fast food every day. I also typically only eat once or twice a day, so the calories aren’t too bad honestly. And truthfully, the way they spread out the discount is good. For the first order, I don’t wanna spend $90. Spending $42 for the first week is a good tester week, and if I like it, I’m fine with the real $90.
For you it would make sense if you eat only once or twice a day and one of the meals is fast food

@@chloexianah3070 I'm not even like overweight by any means, I'm at the perfect weight. I just know that fast food isn't good for the system. But after getting these Hello Fresh things, they are extremely good.
But imagine this, do you REALLY spent that much money when you grocery shop? No. I went to Walmart to buy ingredients for the week, and I only spent like maybe $50-$60. HelloFresh, last I spent was a roughly $100 and sometimes more. Ridiculous. I don’t think I’ve spent that much just to make meals at home.
That's the deal with my family too! We eat loads of fast food every week and think that even if this is pretty expensive, it would be much cheaper than fast food every day

We cook whole good meals very cheap, head of cabbage, chicken thighs, rice etc…..all for under $10 feeding three people.
All the spices we add are from Walmart, .88 cents per good size bottle.
We prepare and cook out meals in an hour, and have left overs for lunch next day.
I cancelled my subscription after one box in November but never uninstalled the app. Last week I got an alert on my phone inviting me back with a free box. I opened the app and kept clicking to add meals...and add meals...so I got 8 meals for 4 in one box and only paid $8.99 shipping. I even wrote customer service cause it seemed too good to be true. Nope, the promo code that was applied that was specific to me kept setting the cost to zero. Might have been a glitch with how they set up that promo code, but I was here for it. 🥳 That one box would have cost like almost $300. 8 meals x 4 people! 😱

I always appreciate an honest review. $42 for three meals is ridiculous. I usually get all of my groceries for the whole week (and I cook all of my own meals) for $50-$60. Also what the heck is that nutrition? I have seen videos where people got really bad produce (like vegetables that have gone bad or are about to go bad), but you're the first I've seen who has talked about how the nutrition in general is awful.
Right!!! Like it’s soooo expensive compared to buying your own groceries plus not as healthy either.
It was 6 meals...3 different meals that serve 2 people each. Its not bad actually, $7 per meal.

I was hoping to have a better experience with Hello Fresh but it is what it is.
I honestly haven’t had issues with Hello Fresh. Yes I noticed the portion sizes are sometimes off but it’s not so bad. Almost all the meals taste spectacularly delicious.
A box came late in the mail during the middle of summer, all the perishable ingredients were trash. We called them they didnt care, refused to refund anything. Of all the many meals I've had from them there are only 3 recipes I liked enough to continue making.

I cooked chicken meal . Had two chicken slabs.one came out so rubbery that it could not be eating and it shrank and became round when cooked...do they have lab meat...? I've never in my life ever had rubber chicken meat.,...the other slab cooked fine...

She is not lying.. I went and checked my bank account and they had charged me 3 times before Recieving my second meal. Cancelled right away and they gave me my money back. The promotional codes are just like she stated!

Thanks for making this video we had been debating starting one of these but I'd rather just keep going to the grocery store. They advertise it like you don't have to go to the store wow! But like... I need trash bags and soap and all that stuff still so we still have to go to the store anyway lol.
Grocery stores have delivery services anyway these days. So Hello Fresh really isn't offering anything of substantial value to justify their prices.

I can't get my wife to stop buying it. I call it "hello mess." 90% of their offerings are skillet meals which are basically glorified hamburger helper. I think their tag line should be "Hello Fresh - Putting the Hell back in dinner one meal at a time."

the cost was so atrocious vs me just going with recipes and going to the store they almost quadrupled in price after two weeks if you go to the website it does not say what the cost will be month to month only what the first week and i find that to be very misleading i want to know what the cost it for each month and they just dont do that when signing up , and when cancelling i had to switch to a pre loaded card so that they couldnt charge me any more just to be able to cancel

That’s 1/5 of my complaints. And my complaint with that was based on their advertising saying you get all of the ingredients. It’s that their advertising is misleading not that it doesn’t come with salt or olive oil.
DOOOOOOODAAAAH Truth!! I promise I will not ever buy from Hello Fresh, it is such a scam. I can email you my meal prep if you are looking for ideas, I could just never bring myself to literally throw money away like this.

I cancelled my order, then all of a sudden I got auto charged was sent a week’s worth of meals that I didn’t even order. I have been a customer of Hello Fresh for quite some time. But they kept doing this trick with sending me a week’s worth of food and then charging me for it, when I didn’t order it at all. So I talked to someone in customer service and told her that I wanted a complete cancellation with Hello Fresh. No more!

The Meal plan includes 4 meals for the week so what do I do for the remaining 3 days go on a fast!! Wtf?
Something Hello Fresh didn't disclose until they were forced was that if you have a Hello Fresh account credit, and you choose a meal with a premium ingredient, they do NOT take the premium ingredient cost from your credit balance like they do the rest of the box. They charge your card for it. That's why I left them. I had a $72 credit (they had a massive messup on one of my orders) so I elected to try a premium ingredient meal. They charged the normal box charge from my credit balance and charged my debit card for the premium ingredient cost. Even though I had more than enough credit balance to cover the whole order. After many phone calls, they now they disclose that premium ingredients will be charged separately and will not be taken from any credit balance very clearly, but it's still a shitty practice.
