They should let users decide whether an app is a priority app, and I think this addition is gonna make Doze much more effective. Imagine annoying developers putting their Instagram or Candy Crush as priority apps.
+JamesJDMoe there goes that regurgitated nonsense we were looking for. I bet you seen the Nexus 6 go slow for anything other than boot up while encrypted too, right?
Corey Kinard its not nonsense. It's factual. Do some research. Internal storage is so much faster and more reliable than SD cards. Especially when considering top tier internal storage like the UFS storage the new galaxy phones have.
+MT1Robinson Well...Seeing as there is barely any difference between lollipop and marshmallow, I would assume Sense already have some of these features....
As usual you are amazing. I don't look too much at app reviews much but I'm sure glad you're the one reviewing Marshmallow. You you deliver so fast and I can still understand what you're saying and laugh at the same time. Am looking forward to it's implementation on galaxy phones. I hope the fingerprint scanner is improved. I have to jiggle and find the "sweet spot" for this one. I went back to the pattern which is really no security. The backup password is a pain. That's why I was so jazzed about the fingerprint scanner. I suppose I'll keep trying because it's really the only real way to protect. If i chad a son I'd vant chim to be like you!
more specifically it's the old tv animation of it turning off. where the screen shrinks down to a horizontal line in the center and that line shrinks from both sides until the screen is black. that's the best way I can think of to explain it.
There isn't much of a change but features i like most is than instant search from apps, directly opening the app instead of asking, new status bar and its settings and doze mode. Its really exciting to hear about all these updates. Looking forward for Android M 6.0 in Motorola devices. :)
I got the Marshmallow update on my Nexus Player and what I love the most you didn't even mentioned. When you go to the Android version on the Settings/About section you click several times on it and it'll show you the Marshmallow Logo which is pretty boring looking but if you keep clicking on it, it'll open a pretty cool looking Flappy Bird game where the bird is substituted by the Android robot and the obstacles are marshmallows. Really neat, Hope you guys enjoy!
+Joseph Hindy It takes place in updated Google Now, even on Lollipop. Similar to how Google Keyboard got material design even on KitKat. I have it on Google Now on my S5 in Lollipop.
It's an update to the Google Now Launcher. It adds the vertical app drawer as well as the new Google icons and a few new animations. It was released in September.
I have a nexus 6 and literally got the OTA today, kinda pissed it took over a month, but that's what happens wen your in Canada , you get everything fuckkkin late, nice video I enjoyed the in depth of android M. Great work authority
Best review style and reviewer of Android Authority, very informative, condense and direct reviews. Prefer this reviewer much more over the other reviewers at Android Authority.
I would like to see more granular control in the backup/restore feature. Like selecting which apps to restore and information about which apps are backed up, size and date of the backup.
Can't believe how positive Joe was...wow ;) maybe lollipop can be forgotten soon! Also thanks for that caveat regarding doze mode! Didn't realize itis delevoper enforced. Thanks😆
I think being able to set the notification mode after I hit the volume button is more convenient that reaching for the quick settings. But maybe that's just because I'm using a custom rom. I probably don't have to worry too much anyway since I should have all the options in the rom.
this video is best after 3 cups of coffee I think. Or if you have an anxiety disorder (along with a technology fixation), then it's just right... But seriously, good job guys at AA! Way to give us the goods in a short time frame. God knows our attention span is short these days!
+Jesse Ling "Hackng" is what I'm doing, but why should I? for such a basic feature which every other manufacturer has outta box, besides Google. It's funny how Reboot option and the Clear All feature in recents is always lacking.
it gets rolled out in stages, like lollipop did. you should get in in a day or two. in the meanwhile, hit that check for updates button a couple of times and wait for 15 seconds before you close settings in disappointment.
_"Expecting a UI overhaul is unrealistic". I liked the video, with the exception of that. As a developer we should always design UI tweaks to make the OS more user friendly and aesthetic to consumers. I have quite a few ideas of designs that could've implemented to make Marshmallow stand out._
Pretty sure by overhaul he means major redesign, such as how the transition from KitKat to Lollipop was. There will definitely be some UI tweaks here and there from time to time.
+tOny D I honestly wonder what type of display your phone has...Pretty much everything on my phone (App drawer, keyboard, stock apps) have white in them so I dim the brightness to keep from going blind and it works..
+D33M0N3Y it's the eyes, not the phone, we havr different eyes maybe he's asian if you want a black or other colored app drawer, try using Nova Launcher
apparently android does that on its own so that button is obsolete. however, that's just what I've heard. the multitasking window is more for quickly switching between apps now rather than seeing which ones are open if that makes sense.
I think the system only does it when it needs to, but the background apps can still slow down animations etc. At least on older versions, I've never really used anything newer than 4.4. I would argue that the button is still useful though. When the list contains 50 apps and you want to be able to have a better overview it's annoying to have to swipe 50 times to close everything.
Mads Feierskov yeah I mean I do think it's weird to take it away, I was just saying what I heard. It's a little counterintuitive if you are trying to multitask but can't find the one app you want to switch to out of 50 or so.
Exectly. I hope it has just moved or changed or that I've just missed it in the videos. As I recall it was gone in 5.0 and back in 5.1 by popular demand. It would be strange if they removed it again for 6.0.
+Mads Feierskov Heyyo, it depends on what ROM you're running tbh. I've noticed running Exodus Android that gave you the option for location where I used to have it beside the search bar? Since my search bar seems to no longer work in recent apps, I lost my close all button. I just changed the location option to bottom right and it came back for me.
unfortunately you cannot store all apps in adoptable storage ... like du speed booster is directly been stored in internal storage instead of getting stored in adoptable storage
What I really wanted was built in theme engine for marshmallow and to able to change the app drawer to difrent colours the white hurts my eyes at night.i wish they still had chosen to include dark theme at least.
Can I Use The Horizontal App Drawer With Marshmallow and also duh why does google gave developer to choose wheter their app is priority or not why cant we choose with the app permission
Do you think they are ever going to give us a choice on our home softkeys? I absolutely HATE the softkeys now with the triangle for back circle for home etc. I really want to be able to choose how my home keys look like with out rooting my phone (or unrooting it I forget which is which). If you have any information on this please leave a comment. Also is this a software update or is it only on the new devices? Thank You, Amber
Rolling out the new app drawer to lollipop users ahead of time made the visual transition hard to notice. The big improvement for me is the increase in screen on time on a Nexus 5. Not sure why Messenger automatically downloaded though. Hangouts makes it redundant.

This is the 3rd or 4th "marshmallow tour" I have watched and I STILL learned a lot! Thanks guys!
They should let users decide whether an app is a priority app, and I think this addition is gonna make Doze much more effective. Imagine annoying developers putting their Instagram or Candy Crush as priority apps.
+tiger d absolutely right
Greenify 2.8 beta implements Doze as soon as the screen is off.
AGREE!!!
thats whzt there doing
For some reason or another, Nobody is talking about how awesome the adoptable storage is. It's what we've been waiting for.
well marshmallow is mostly out on nexus devices rignt now and nexus devices don't support sd cards
+The Gaming Nolan Multiwindow too.. in the Beta it was but they removed it ¡¡
+The Gaming Nolan its because SD cards are poopy and internal storage is so much better and more reliable
I hope everyone enjoys the video :)
+Joseph Hindy thanks joe! Now i know everything about marshmallow
***** :)
+Joseph Hindy ya... good video
+Joseph Hindy I'd give this video two enthusiastic thumbs up but youtube seems to think everyone is an amputee
+Aaron Berg thank you for the compliments. I'm glad you liked it!
so HTC sense had the app drawer right all along
+Eric “sosiqwitit” Valdez Yep pretty much.
Sense has a lot of these features already
+MT1Robinson Well...Seeing as there is barely any difference between lollipop and marshmallow, I would assume Sense already have some of these features....
Well Android in its early days scrolled up and down. it didn't change until a few years ago maybe. I don't think HTC ever changed.
+Eric “sosiqwitit” Valdez
To be honest, I actullay preferred sense to stock. Especially the app switcher.
Thank you for speaking fast so you didn't waste our time.

Love your videos, always come to your channel when I wanna find out anything phone-related.
5:28 andorid lollipop sounds good haha just kiddin' good video bro
Totally professional review. Thank you so much for this helpful video.
I'm impressed. You narrated this video in just one breath!
Perfect video explaining everything in quick detail. You guys nailed it
i love the speed talking great job, i was waiting for the intake of air lol. very informative ty answered lots of my questions
The best video explanation of Marshmallow too date imo
you speak too fast 😁😁
You hear too slow.
+barookqtr123 You can set a slower playbck speed. Well, unfortunately not on android yet.
you can upgrade your ear to ver. 6.0
I'm sorry but it's your problem, not his.
+xRuFFZx I don't think you should be commenting on anyone's mental health status...

first time saw a video from android authority with no views!!!
Still no CRT Animation :(
whats that?
+Dennis Fluttershy Yes I agree. I shouldn't have to rely on Cyanogenmod to get those features.
more specifically it's the old tv animation of it turning off. where the screen shrinks down to a horizontal line in the center and that line shrinks from both sides until the screen is black. that's the best way I can think of to explain it.
***** so its translated to : Closing Runtime or not?
+Mr. Mxyzptlk I thought cyanogen mod got rid of all the screen animations in Lollipop builds. It was still in Kitkat though.
Great video! You really covered everything
There isn't much of a change but features i like most is than instant search from apps, directly opening the app instead of asking, new status bar and its settings and doze mode. Its really exciting to hear about all these updates. Looking forward for Android M 6.0 in Motorola devices. :)

coming from croatia, and seeing Plitvice lakes on your msg, surely wasn't expecting that :D
respect
Excellent overview. Very nicely done.
I wish if every narrator spoke like this... Man, that was like watching a one hour content in ten minutes. I liked it.
finally a quick and on point review with lack of bullshit. uprzejmie dziękuję & I recommend you keep it up
i don't think the app drawer thing is new? i'm using that right now on 5.1.1.
It wasnt in Stock Android. You're likely using an OEM skin which may have added it.
+Joseph Hindy possibly. Moto X style 2015.
+Soukthachone Vilaysack That one was pushed as an update for the Google Now Launcher
Thanks for the tour and video ☺
They shouldn't have removed the dark mode from beta 1 ;( Great Video btw
The samee, I hate it all white. My eyes D:
noooooooo!!!!! r u fucking kidding me google??? whyyyyy???....
They brought it back as an option in Android 10 :D
I have a nexus 6 and literally got the OTA today, kinda pissed it took over a month, but that's what happens wen your in Canada , you get everything fuckkkin late, nice video I enjoyed the in depth of android M. Great work authority
You guys should do a video going through all the animation tweaks, or new ones. I for one would most definitely watch that.
Best review style and reviewer of Android Authority, very informative, condense and direct reviews. Prefer this reviewer much more over the other reviewers at Android Authority.
wOOW ! INCREDIBLY almost all those features are already in my Meizu Phone (flyme 4.5) , But good to know a few updates. Good job.
iOS 9.0.2 was already 5 years behind Lollipop... Now Marshmallow seems to be a decade ahead :D
Are you ok Joe? You were so polite about Lollipop! 😂😉
Anything new on controlling the vibration intensity?
I would like to see more granular control in the backup/restore feature. Like selecting which apps to restore and information about which apps are backed up, size and date of the backup.
2:08 Plitvice lakes are in Croatia
Can't believe how positive Joe was...wow ;) maybe lollipop can be forgotten soon! Also thanks for that caveat regarding doze mode! Didn't realize itis delevoper enforced. Thanks😆
this was an awesome video. quick and precise
is there any change in notifications as well?
thanks Joe....informative at warp speed as always.....
When is it coming on the S6 in Singapore??
When will it be out for Nexus 6 unlocked in Holland?
I think being able to set the notification mode after I hit the volume button is more convenient that reaching for the quick settings. But maybe that's just because I'm using a custom rom. I probably don't have to worry too much anyway since I should have all the options in the rom.

when is the review for the nexus 5x coming out?
+Joseph Hindy great video , when the marshmallow will be released ?
+RAM-tv It has been (for many Nexus devices). At this point, everyone's waiting for it to roll out to them.
+Joseph Hindy great , i got the nexus 4 , ill be waiting for it.
+RAM-tv nexus 4 wont be getting lollipop officially.
You could always wait for a custom rom but that might take some time.
+Aakash “Daki” Dhawan You mean marshmallow ? i read an article that it will get the official update .
It's around 3 years old. I really don't think Googles going to support it for this long.
I'm glad they took some features from ios. it's was much needed
LEL at 01:11 he mentions that he is showing off Android Lollipop when this is really Marshmallow 😆
You should be able to override an application setting itself to priority
So will the S5 be able to get marshmallow?
yes it will get it
Giovany Obispo haha glad i could help Barry xD
Yes, you'll get it soon.
did the Xperia z2 get the update
Did they add "Reboot" option in the Power Menu yet ?
+Jesse Ling "Hackng" is what I'm doing, but why should I? for such a basic feature which every other manufacturer has outta box, besides Google. It's funny how Reboot option and the Clear All feature in recents is always lacking.
+Haik0 because a clear all feature is actually bad for memory management. Agree with you on the reboot button tho
Great video joseph! Now lets wait patiently (very) for xposed framework
will be available for the nexus 4?
How do you get the new update???
Nexus 5 and still no OTA update :/
it gets rolled out in stages, like lollipop did.
you should get in in a day or two.
in the meanwhile, hit that check for updates button a couple of times and wait for 15 seconds before you close settings in disappointment.
+pranay khatwani Same, i'm waiting
+Srikanth Menon me too ! I'm pissed off, I really want to put my hands on Marshmallow
MrSam TV yeah I'm hoping it would at least come up before the weekend ends so I can check it out fully
+Srikanth Menon me too
does that mean that the lg g3 will have a fingerprint as a lock screen
actually you can also just enable Google Now On Tap by holding down the home button, if it's not enabled it gives you a dialogue to enable it
The list down app drawer and search function is something I've had since 3 years ago with HTC One M7 haha. Sense UI is so great.
Does android 6.0 have a multi window feature enabled ??
Very informative video, thanks.
What's the release date for Android Marshmallow
Where exactly do you fckin enable now on tap? ive looked around the options for 20 minutes and theres nothing, i have a nexus 5 and im running 6.0
what about the floating notifications? do they still come while you're browsing some other app or can you finally control or stop it?
Wasn't split screen supposed to come as well?
Missed one good option.. if u press menu icon from home screen for a while will bring you to the direct search option for the apps
i wonder hows the ram management for this version. any thoughts?
great video bro, is the assist and voice input feature on nexus 5 android 6.0 ?
I'm curious to what changed on the lg g4's update on marshmallow
great Tour man! thanks
Is multi window not on android M yet?
There is actually a lot more in Marshmallow than I thought there was. Maybe the 6.0 name instead of the 5.2 name was a good choice after all
will the Note Edge get it? and when?
Question if I have the developers preview is the official android 6 is going to update via ota or do I need to flash it ???
so wait is each android version every year? so lollipop was the 2015 one right?
but you know what android should do is make the home buttons transparent like the notification bar is now
full run down to the new os and all that is changed is always welcomed
when does it come out on samsung
Is there any chance to manage apps in menu without launcher? I don´t want alphabet arrangement
My Moto G3 unlocked just got marshmallow today. It's impressive!
Does the marshmallow update activate the LED notification light in the Nexus 6?
When will this be release to samsung devices ?
I really hope for a dark theme for all the menus to be added in future updates
PS: Thank you!!
& keep up tge great work!! 😀😀
Nice quick overview

+Rasenano you are correct. That's exactly what I meant.
i fucking hate white app drawer. Its so blinding at night.
This is why you dim your brightness at night..
+tOny D There's a dark theme included, you can use it.
D33M0N3Y dimming doesn't help. bluelight filter does the job
+tOny D I honestly wonder what type of display your phone has...Pretty much everything on my phone (App drawer, keyboard, stock apps) have white in them so I dim the brightness to keep from going blind and it works..
+D33M0N3Y it's the eyes, not the phone, we havr different eyes maybe he's asian
if you want a black or other colored app drawer, try using Nova Launcher
Is the "close all" button in recent apps gone again? I haven't seen it in videos so far.
apparently android does that on its own so that button is obsolete. however, that's just what I've heard. the multitasking window is more for quickly switching between apps now rather than seeing which ones are open if that makes sense.
I think the system only does it when it needs to, but the background apps can still slow down animations etc. At least on older versions, I've never really used anything newer than 4.4.
It would be strange if they removed it again for 6.0.

and also duh why does google gave developer to choose wheter their app is priority or not why cant we choose with the app permission
Someone told me that you can't change it to the horizontal app drawer so you better start liking it or you'll just have to use a launcher.
You can't.
Thank You,
Amber
no multi window in official Android M??
Rolling out the new app drawer to lollipop users ahead of time made the visual transition hard to notice. The big improvement for me is the increase in screen on time on a Nexus 5. Not sure why Messenger automatically downloaded though. Hangouts makes it redundant.
What date is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge getting Android 6.0?
will note 4 get this update
when will i get marshmallow? i got an update but im still on 5.1.1
I would have liked to see option to choose the app drawer style (horizontal or vertical). I would have also liked to see the dark background mode make it to the final version of M. Ability to change accent colors would also be nice (like on the OnePlus2). These are all minor tweeks, but would add a bit of personalisation to stock Android.
The "Clear All" button still doesn't exist in recent/open apps.
p.s. Has the Camera app UI been updated or will that come as a separate app update later?
Agree entirely with all your points. The camera app must be a separate app update because I'm running M and have the same camera as in lollipop
I really hope you can turn the app drawer back to horizontal mode im just so used to it, if not i might have to stick with Nova Prime. I also hope they add unread tags in the future other than that i think this is a great update for both power users and casual users.
wondering on overall battery life compared to
there are still folders in the app drawer right?
+Ben Graham that's really dumb
+Ben Wilcox That's what I use Nova Launcher for lol
