I’ve seen this musical while it was touring with my dad and sister. I was around twelve years old at the time. Fun story, during intermission my sister and I drank a lot of soda and during the second act of the show she and I belched very loudly. I even heard someone calling us nasty. I did feel bad about ruining that person’s evening and my father was mortified. Couple of things that didn’t need to be cut: 1) The Morning Report 2) The chase scene in Chow Down 3) The dance sequence in Can You Feel the Love Tonight.
3) could have been replaced with a deleted verse- Nala: Somewhere there’s a reason Why I have to go Keep away from this star-crossed voyager That I don’t want to know Simba: Never trust the future Never miss the past If you live for the shining moment The moment may just last The cuts were unfortunate nevertheless.
Great Broadway musical! Samuel E. Wright and Max Casella did a awesome job doing the role of Mufasa and Timon. Wright and Casella both co-starred in Dinosaur as Kron and Zini and The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea as Sebastian and Tip. D.B. Sweeney also appeared in Dinosaur with Wright and Casella. Sweeney and Jason Razie both starred in Brother Bear as Sitka and Denahi. Razie was also in The Lion King as the role of Adult Simba in the show. That’s an ironic stars that got involved in the show.
To be honest Max and Sam are the only actors for Timon and Mufasa that I love as much as Nathan Lane and James Earl Jones from the original animated movie. I've watched other bootlegs of the stage show with different actors and while I thought they were very good they didn't impress me the same way that Max and Sam did. Actually I feel the same way about the entire Original Broadway Cast
If I may offer my humble opinion, but the English actor named Rob Edwards did a great job and a much, much better job on portraying as Scar in The Lion King on Broadway.
Heard an interview where the actor of Scar wasn’t usually a mean person so it was hard for him to act that way. I can’t remember the actors name. Maybe it was him. Been quite a few years since I’ve seen that interview, I’ll have to try looking.

I sincerely appreciate you uploading this video of The Lion King on Broadway. My favorite character is Mufasa because he teaches Simba a lesson about the great Circle of Life and the Great Kings of the Past, as well as encouraging him to remember who he is.

The Lion King musical is one of the most famous and important musicals of our time. The Lion King remains one of the most culturally relevant musicals to this day. It is a true timeless piece and is still popular with both adults and children nearly 30 years after its release. The musical was directed by Julie Taymor, with Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi doing the writing. In the play, the main character Simba, is next in line to be king. However, Simba’s jealous uncle, Scar, attempts to kill Simba and take the throne. The Lion King musical has many highlights throughout, however tracks such as “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” are some of the brightest spots in the musical. This is certainly a musical that I would recommend due to its interesting characters, strong musical performances, and family-friendly plot. Overall, due to its timeless nature and immaculate quality, The Lion King musical remains one of the most culturally significant musicals of all time.
I just realized that Max Casella (who played Timon) is also the voice of Daxter from Jak and Daxter. How do you go from a meerkat that hangs out with a warthog and eats bugs, to a wise cracking Ottsel from a game made by Naughty dog (the developers of Uncharted, and Crash Bandicoot)?
@Ryan Kelly The Movie Alternate VHS 2001 We told you already that show in full doesn’t exist. There’s only Endless Night and He Lives in You from that production.
I actually really like Mathew Broderick as Simba in the original animated movie but I agree that Glover was pretty forgettable and Jason is outstanding
I agree- Jason is the best Simba ever imo. Broderick was much better in Simba’s Pride (and if they had given an extra scene or two in the original for adult Simba’s character growth, I think he would have been good in the original too). Glover suffered from poor direction. The whole 2019 remake was a disappointment.
Glover had the potential to be great but unfortunately he was paired with a shitty director like favreau. Maybe in the new movie he might be good because he does have a part ijnit
@@sharrdx5956 Favreau's more hit and miss than shitty IMO; and this was unfortunately one of his misses. However, from what it sounds like the story is, and judging by the lack of returning cast members, and also judging by how low he was on the cast list in the trailer, it seems to me like he's going to have no more than a cameo or bit part in the new movie. Time will tell though...
Hi there! I’ve been a fan of The Lion King Musical for years, and the original cast has always been my favorite. Do you have more TLK musical footage of Jason Raize as Simba after 1997? He has played the role of Adult Simba for three years.
There’s probably an archival recording of the original cast performing that they pulled footage from to make promotional material. It would take years before someone leaks it to the public (if it even exists to begin with). I am sure there is another recording of one of the tryout performances from Minneapolis too.
The Lion King musical was directed by Julie Taymor and debuted on July 8, 1997. It depicts a young Lion (Simba) that is heir to be king of the jungle, but his jealous uncle (Scar) kills Simba’s father and current king (Mufasa) and blames Simba for the death causing him to run away. This sends Simba a journey to forgive himself and get the courage to go back home and confront Scar for murdering his father and corrupting the kingdom. The Lion King presents this great story all the while advocating for the importance of nature and taking care of the Earth. I would definitely recommend this musical and film for anyone who hasn’t seen it because it is one of the best stories Disney has ever created and provided a great musical score led by Elton John.
I think it’s a stage hand or something recording this. That’s a pretty high vantage point to record from. I think only a stage guy could record like this.
