I have a 1999 Dodge RAM 2500 w/5.9 24 Valve engine. I also have the OFFICIAL Dodge Service Manual. Below are the settings as per this manual. Hope it helps someone. Note that the valve lash adjustment does NOT help fuel economy or EGT according to the manual. Read below what it says EXACTLY from the OFFICIAL manual. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If measured valve lash falls within these specifications no adjustment/reset is necessary. Engine operation within these ranges has to adverse affect on performance, emissions, fuel economy or level of engine noise. Intake Exhaust Minimum Minimum 0.152 mm (0.006 in.) 0.381 mm (0.015 in.) Maximum Maximum 0.381 mm (0.015 in.) 0.762 mm (0.038 in.) If adjustment is necessary, use the settings below: Exhaust: 0.020 Intake: 0.010 Top Dead Center Intake: 1-2-4 Exhaust: 1-3-5 ----------------------------------- Bottom Dead Center Intake: 3-5-6 Exhaust: 2-4-6
@@caelanfarlee4515 Per my cam manufacturers recommendation; it’s just that little bit tighter with a little more lift and duration. We’re talking minute amounts here. Also in my experience, it increases lash intervals
3rd gen oil pressure sensor only reads if it does or does not have pressure, not an actual measurement of pressure. The gauge you see on dash is just a fake reading based off rpm/coolant temp.
Great how-to video! I've owned 2 duramax's and everytime I see someone working on a Cummins I get jealous because of how easy they are to wrench on.
Your a good dude, we need more guys like you down here in CA. That actually know how to work on shit and have common sense.
Good video.
If you mark the face of the balancer it makes it a little easier to see the position as you roll it over
top dead center COMPRESSION stroke that's why they're loose...... everyone forgets to say that part "TDCC"
Damn your truck sounds so good.

How many miles do you have on your cummins
I have a deleted 2012 6.7. Is the process the same? Also cold or warm engine?
Is there a torque spec to tighten the nuts on the rocker arms?? Or just tighten with a wrench?
18 foot lbs on the lock nuts.
Hey can you tell me what the program you got there on your computer and which gauges you're running. My cat wants all that.
Is you oil pressure supposed to be that high? Mine is just a bit lower than that. Around the 10:00 mark
What happens if you dont adjust it. my 97 has 400k and i dont think it has been done more than twice
I replaced front main seal on mine and didn’t follow the mark when i put the harmonic balancer back. Did I did wrong or I didn’t needed
How do I know if I need a valve adjustment? I’m new to the Cummins world…. Thanks
Where are you located at in Canada
What software are you using on that computer?
hp tuners
did you notice the valve noise was louder during warmup cycle? my '06 tends to have some noisy valves when warming up...but at temp she's normal.
Yea definitely louder when the engine is cold, Procedure calls for
adjustment on a cold engine as clearances tighten up with engine heat.
What size is your wheel and tire combo?
7:00 the money shot
How much to build a bed like your 3rd gen dually?
Is that a jeep bumper?
But if you spin the harmonic balincer at tdc and you spin 360° wouldn't be back at tdc?

I always set mine at .008 and .018, straight from a cam guy
What's the benefit of doing that?

Definitely something i need to do on my "05".
What software are you using to data-log with?
Hp tuners vcm suite.
Great video
Is your oil pressure always that high at 1700rpm (top right gauge on dash)
3rd gen oil pressure sensor only reads if it does or does not have pressure, not an actual measurement of pressure.
The gauge you see on dash is just a fake reading based off rpm/coolant temp.
My 3rd gen pressure goes up and down with RPM's
Where can I find that thousandths guide tool????
Anywhere you can buy automotive tools usually has them.
Above engine coolant temp
Don't set them tighter than factory
...if too tight, the valve may not seat fully.... burnt valves, dropped valves....
.008 and .018, perfectly fine
Did you really see any improved fuel Economy?
No
How much for the flat bed?
Send me a message, Optimalwelding@gmail.com
Hey good videos man.
Good job
When I want to shift and record at the same time I let my cat drive and then it's a lot easier to shift and record at the same time
Would I fit my 97 cummins
Yeah it should, might have to modify the hitch a bit but other than that its all the same.
wish that bed would fit my ford lol
put the new flat bed back on!!!!!
lol
Still got that flatbed? 😂
If I had a truck I would get that bed but...
Common rails don't sound anywhere near as good as a vp44 24 valve or a p pump 12 valve
I can make my truck sound exactly like a 12v or vp44 24v cummins just by disabling the pre injection event.
Cummins life Didn't know you could do that, i figured it was built in to the injectors or something, that's actually pretty neat then.
Bed still available
Do you ever wear a seat belt
How much for the flatbed?
