That is a real eye opener, I have always been a firm believer of checking reviews, used to be photographic magazines back in the 1980's, now you do an ample job of covering interesting lenses and photographic equipment. It is almost hard to believe how the market has changed and what the new optic manufactures from China and Republic of Korea have brought to market. Thank you!
There are so many vintage lenses that can be had for cheap, granted you need an adaptor. Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4, Minolta Rokkor PG 50mm f/1.4, Konica Hexanons 35mm f/2.8, 57mm f/1.4, Jupiter 8 50mm f/2, Helios 44 series....the list goes on. I think a lot of people are missing out on vintage lenses, which in most instances, have more "vintage" character. Good for thise of us that collect them, keeps the prices down. I do appreciate your very detailed reviews.
Thank you for this list! I'm really starting to appreciate manual focus lenses after acquiring an old nikon f2 and shooting a few rolls of film. Plus manual focusing with my sigma 30mm 1.4 on my a6000 is a breeze after the latest sigma firmware update. Can't wait to try out some of these lenses in the future and can't wait for future manual lens reviews from your channel
Love using manual lenses for Sony e-mount. Really great choices especially for the budget conscious buyer. I also can recommend some legacy lenses which are great.
I am in love with my Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 lens. It is sharp and the colors are great! This is the only modern manual focus lens that I own. The rest of my many-many manual focus lenses are vintage!
I haven't tried astrophotography myself. I took shots of fireworks on the 4th and they turned out excellent, although that isn't a very fair comparison. Good luck to you!
I tested none of the lenses of this list at my channel, but I own the 12mm f2.0 Samyang and it is amazing like you said, but I like the mike 28mm f2.8 even more, this is the best lens I tested so far. From 7artisans I recently tested the 12mm f2.8 and it wasn't bad at all.
The Zonlai 22mm F1.8 is not currently available on your Amazon link, or on Amazon UK. It looks as if this is only available by direct import into USA and UK. I have the 7 Artisans and would certainly appreciate the improved performance of the Zonlai 22mm F1.8
I sold my APS-C bodies, but for anyone interested, here's a deal i found tonight. Best buy has the Sony - Vario-Tessar T*E 16-70mm f4 ZA OSS zoom lens as an open box deal at $489.99. MSRP is $999.99, and when its on sale, its usually still $899.99. I've bought 3 sony FE lenses as open box deals at best buy, and all were perfect. I went so far as to add this to my cart and was about to checkout when I remembered it was an APS-C lens. Anyway, since I can't benefit from the deal, I figured I'd share it. I have no idea if they have just one, or many, but at the time I'm typing, its still available. hope this helps somebody who may be in the market for this lens.
Nice idea with this video and a nice selection of manual lenses. I have a couple of them but also have a good few vintage lenses. The non vintage manual focus lenses I have for my A6300 are 7artisans 7.5mm fisheye Samyang 12mm f/2 7artisans 35mm f/2 7artisans 55mm f/1.4 Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 Samyang 85mm f/1.4 I'm probably going to get rid of my Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 and keep the 7artisans 55mm f/1.4 instead as I feel it suits me better.
Rokinon is the same lens manufacturer than Samyang, isn't it? The Rokinon lenses you have shown look exactly like the Samyang lenses. The only different is, that Samyang lenses are a little bit cheaper in the US.
Have Samyang (Rokinon) 21mm T1.5 as my daily driver. This lens is so great and versatile... The only thing that is a huge pain for me is closest focus distance. You can't even use macro rings on it because you'll get too much magnification for most of use... Have to buy some 50-60mm. Maybe Sigma 60mm F2.8?
So nice video so helpfull Just only if i dont have 16mm f1.4 from sigma as wide lense 50mm f1.8 with 85mm from samyang as portret lense and zoom lense sony 18-105mm f4 from sony So thx alot.
Arthur, this is one of the best video I have watched. But, time has rolled 2 years ahead. Would appreciate, if you can update the list as of Jan 2020 or later.
For capturing just a face, the essence of a portrait, even an 85mm would be just fine indoors. To capture face and a little shoulders you would be roughly 6ft away. Thats not too far in a house. I know people consider faces are more flattering from the 50mm to 85mm range, and 85mm is often considered the best. Though people choose down to the 35mm for portraits outdoors often if they want to capture more background. Its probably more true for a waist up shot, which is a portrait technically still than just the face. I would be wary of those blanket statements about indoor vs outdoor, it can be confusing.
This is APSC, so multiply everything by 1.5. If you think using an 85mm x 1.5 = 127mm lens indoors is a good idea, more power to you! For me, 50mm and above is too tight indoors. Just my opinion though.
And I see the disconnect. I was assuming that as an aps-c intended lens, they had put the equivalent on an aps-c on the lens already. 55mm was the apsc sensor focal length, not the true focal length full frame camera's. I guess that is not the case then. you learn something new every day.
Thank you for all the videos on the a6000. Your channel has far and away been my best source of info as a new owner. Any chance for a review of or side-by-side including of the Sony 18 - 200 f3.5 - 6.3 OSS LE? Very interested to get your thoughts or even a comment on the 18 - 200, if you've had any experience with it. Thanks in advance!
Have you ever tried Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 E mount ? I'm editing weddings filmed with this lens now and it looks sooo amazing straight out of the camera.
Great video, thanks for your work on it, i am a completely beginner, I am about to order the a6600, and i have two choices for the lenses kit: 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS or E 18-135 mm f / 3.5-5.6 OSS-lens Which one of those two option would you choose? In the future, after some photography course I am sure I will buy more lenses, but for the moment, for making photos of my baby child... Thanks in advance.
Samyang 35mm 1.2 and 50mm 1.2. Would be awesome if you could review them. I own them together with the a6000 and they make a great set together with the 12mm 2 and 21mm 1.4.
I have Sony A6000 ...i buy Sigma 16mm f1.4 after watching your video..my top 5 lens for Sony A6000..it is really sharp ..i use manual focus on it ...do i need any other lens for landscape photography which is sharp like Sigma 16mm F1.4
Whichever 😁😁 out of the a6000 series camera! I just want to know how the wide f/1.1 aperture would perform! There are a couple reviews on the lens but The way lenses are reviewed here is outstanding an to the point! Moreover honest☺️
oh man I have Rok 12 and it's fine but wide...so now you are making me get the 21. i guess then it is a great imtprovement over Sigma 19 2.8 DN. Oh well I have also used now have 4 Nikkor Ais lenses on a6300 (besides on my D750) so I cna deal with manual focus esp. on SONY,
Have you tried soviet lenses? I use helios 44m-4 with my a6000 and I LOVE it. It's 58mm f2 and it costs around 50 USD used (there are no new lenses). And you will need a M42 to NEX adapter (around 10 USD).
I have the same lens, I used it with an adaptor for my a6000 but cannot focus anything beyond 2m. I have the same problem with my nikon d3200, nothing in focus after 2-3 metres distance using an adaptor :-(
Which lens would you suggest for someone who is starting photography and is buying a6000 ? Kit lens or any other lens ? And is a6000 a good buy considering the budget. ?? Reply would be appreciated.
Hey! The kamlan 28mm or the zonlai 22mm is a better lens. The difference in focal lengths doesn't matter to me but since they are at around the same price i was wondering which one you would recommend.
Could it be that the 21 mm lens is sold by different distributors? For me this from Rokinon, Samyang and Walimex Pro ist all the same only with different branding.
EDIT: Misread that as the Sigma 30 F2.8, which I think the Kamlan outperforms. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 is in a higher tier and is the better lens. Optically I think only the Sigma 16mm F1.4 is sharper than the Sigma 30mm F1.4 (and only slightly).
I love the Sigma 30mm f1.4 Great quality. But on manual focus is far to be the best, awful in manual focus to work with. It is the opposite then the Sigma 19mm and the great Sigma 60mm, superb in manual mode to handle.
Something sharper than my kit lens. For tripod use only, indoor only, single product shot, flatlay shots. I don't really need macro shots. Any recommendation?
What's the point if you can use old lenses for the same price. Since all these chinese lenses are suffering from counter-light and lens flaring. Isn't it better to buy a $4 adapter and $80 F1.4 lens?
Would you rather suggest the zonlai 22mm or the kamlan 28mm ? I want a smartphonish fov but with my camera. I mean of course it's 5mm less but a stop more with it's f/1.4 should be better or am i wrong ? Thank you for this video!
Hi Arthur, Very informative!, Greetings from Colombia. Arthur, I have a Sony a6000 and the kamlan 28mm; To improved my outdoor portraits which do you this is better? This 7artisans 55mm, The Kamlan 50mm f1.1 or the Youngnou with autofocus 50mm f1.8?
Would you mind to make top 5 sharp lenses for a6000 please? I need advice for the sharper one.... i have 3 lenses now.. meike 16, sony 50mm and sony 16-55.... thanks a lot...
Hello TM.. i have a question for you i just bougth a6000. I have a plan to buy a lense .. please give advise i have plan to buy 35mm sel or 50mm sel.. combine with 35mm meike or 7 artisans.. and then sel 50-210.. if i have a tight budget... Wich lense i have to buy first..? And for manual lens should i buy 35 or 50?
I have a Sony 6000 thanks to you and i love my camera! What do you think about if I use Canon lenses in my camera? Or some Nikon lenses as well? Thanks! I like a lot your Channel!
TechnologyMafia thanks! I'm seeing other brands because Sony just have one zoom lens... I just saw Sigma 70-300mm and i don't know if it is a good lens. I'm just a rookie trying to understand witch lenses should i'll buy...
We need a 2020 list of this! 😀

Great to see you continue making videos for the A6000. The photos created with 7artisans look awesome.
Thank you!
I’m glad someone still makes videos for a6000 in 2018.
people still make in 2021
There are so many vintage lenses that can be had for cheap, granted you need an adaptor. Yeay.. Finally.. Thanks for the top 5 manual lens..
Technology mafia on it again great video keep up the amazing work
Love using manual lenses for Sony e-mount. Really great choices especially for the budget conscious buyer. I also can recommend some legacy lenses which are great.
Sorry for replying to a year old comment. What are your legacy lens recommendations?
I am in love with my Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 lens. It is sharp and the colors are great! This is the only modern manual focus lens that I own. The rest of my many-many manual focus lenses are vintage!
Just got my Rokinon 12mm today! Great videos such a big help.
Just got that lens in the last few months as well, I love it.
Lord Slick Rick I am going to try and shoot the northern lights in Iceland. Based on reviews this is the best lens’s for that .
I haven't tried astrophotography myself. I took shots of fireworks on the 4th and they turned out excellent, although that isn't a very fair comparison. Good luck to you!
Happy to see the ROKINNON 12mm lens.... Because I bought it only because your reviews...! And it is GREAT for real! Amazing lens.
Rokinon 21mm 1.4 is LEGIT. Had it for Sony E and Fuji X and have been amazed by it. Looking forward to trying out that Kamlan 28mm 1.4 soon.
You made me fan of a6000 and your videos too.. I hope I will own a6000 oneday 😌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
FILMOVLOGS eBay i scored one for 200$ good luck...
Cheap M42 - E-mount adapter opens up a whole world of super cheap, fantastic lenses. Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 58mm, SMC Takumar 55mm.. fantastic stuff.
Why you can't use the 7 artisans indoor??? At f1.4 it'll do pretty well indoor and in low light
Love your videos. No bullshit straight to point, full of detailing just love it. Please make a 2020 edition
The Zonlai 22mm F1.8 is not currently available on your Amazon link, or on Amazon UK. It looks as if this is only available by direct import into USA and UK. I have the 7 Artisans and would certainly appreciate the improved performance of the Zonlai 22mm F1.8
I think it sold out after my review video, because it was in stock the day I posted the link. Hopefully it comes back in stock soon!
I also love the Rokinon 35mm and 85mm manual lenses. They are amazing!!!
Can confirm, I love playing with the rokinon 12mm on my a6! Always forces me to shoot a little differently
I sold my APS-C bodies, but for anyone interested, here's a deal i found tonight. Best buy has the Sony - Vario-Tessar T*E 16-70mm f4 ZA OSS zoom lens as an open box deal at $489.99. Informative. Wonderful! This video will be influenceing my decision tree. Keep up the good work.
Great video as usual 😀👍 It would be great to see you review the Rokinon 85mm 1.4 UMC.
Will you review M42 manual lens as well?
They are cheap, manual and has very good quality.
Thank you Arthur! You're the man! By the way, I see a bit of CA on theRokinon 12mm F2.
Please update the list for 2019 :)
Great Stuff and always informative, Thank you mate.
Great stuff as always!!!
Nice idea with this video and a nice selection of manual lenses. I have a couple of them but also have a good few vintage lenses. The non vintage manual focus lenses I have for my A6300 are
7artisans 7.5mm fisheye
Samyang 12mm f/2
7artisans 35mm f/2
7artisans 55mm f/1.4
Kamlan 50mm f/1.1
Samyang 85mm f/1.4
I'm probably going to get rid of my Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 and keep the 7artisans 55mm f/1.4 instead as I feel it suits me better.
Rokinon is the same lens manufacturer than Samyang, isn't it? The Rokinon lenses you have shown look exactly like the Samyang lenses.
The only different is, that Samyang lenses are a little bit cheaper in the US.
Can u review the samyang 35mm 1.2 for apsc??
Thank you for this outstanding review.. Keep it up

So nice video so helpfull
Just only if i dont have 16mm f1.4 from sigma as wide lense 50mm f1.8 with 85mm from samyang as portret lense and zoom lense sony 18-105mm f4 from sony
So thx alot.
Would love to see you pixel peep with the full frame Tamaron 28-75 f2.8 to see how it performs on a crop sensor body!
I agree with your list 👍🏻
Rokinon/Samyang are the best bargains on the market. Great quality at a Great price, & light as a feather.
Arthur, this is one of the best video I have watched. But, time has rolled 2 years ahead. Would appreciate, if you can update the list as of Jan 2020 or later.
why is the 7 artisans 55m only good for outdoor portraits? What makes a good indoor portrait lens? A recommendation for that?
It is tight indoors, unless you have a huge house. I would recommend a 35mm lens for indoor portraits.
True story!
Another great video.
Btw Arthur, could you perhaps review some vintage Canon FD lenses?
What do you think?
Yes, I should and will.
Nice.
try canon fd 50 1.4 it's a beast
Another cool video, save me time and money.... Thanks again!
We need a 2021-2022 list of this .
If the Rokinons are on Number 1 and 2 why do you say the Kamlan 28mm is a step or two above of all the lenses between 20mm and 30mm?
What happened to the Meike 50mm 1.7 full frame? Also you should review the rokinon 85mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2 35mm 1.2
can you make a video of focusing technique for manual lenses of a6000?
Thank you for all the videos on the a6000. Your channel has far and away been my best source of info as a new owner. Any chance for a review of or side-by-side including of the Sony 18 - 200 f3.5 - 6.3 OSS LE? Very interested to get your thoughts or even a comment on the 18 - 200, if you've had any experience with it. Thanks in advance!
Hey man, a compairason (idk if i have written it well) between the rokinon 12mm f2 and 10mm f2.8 would be awesome! What do you think about it?
Great content as always! You may want to point out that Rokinon is sold as Samyang in Europe
Have you ever tried Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 E mount ? I'm editing weddings filmed with this lens now and it looks sooo amazing straight out of the camera.
Great video as always! How do focus on yourself when you are taking videos? Thanks!
I use the camera's autofocus, which is amazing. Just to make sure, I connect the remote app to my phone to frame the shots before I record.
Yes, that makes sense, but how do you focus with manual lenses? Thanks for your response!
do you have tips on using manuals lenses? please share :)
Focus peaking and program your C1 to zoom to focus. That helps a lot!
for manual lenses, i am much more comfortable using a5100 compared to a6000. Its touch to magnify features make manual focus very easy.
ok will try
Great video, thanks for your work on it, i am a completely beginner, I am about to order the a6600, and i have two choices for the lenses kit: 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS or E 18-135 mm f / 3.5-5.6 OSS-lens
Which one of those two option would you choose? In the future, after some photography course I am sure I will buy more lenses, but for the moment, for making photos of my baby child... Thanks in advance.
Amazing Review! Please do a budget manual lens comparison.
Can you make a a6000 kit lens portrait photography tutorial?
Samyang 35mm 1.2 and 50mm 1.2. Would be awesome if you could review them. I own them together with the a6000 and they make a great set together with the 12mm 2 and 21mm 1.4.
Can you review the Tamron 28-75 f2.8?
can you testing the Minolta MD 50mm 1.4 and compare to the other 50mm you have... thx
Interesting...good job!
Thanks for still doing reviews for sony a6000
Great recommendations. 👍🏼Would you say that the sharpness of the Rokinon 21mm F1.4 is better then the Sigma 16mm F1.4?
I have Sony A6000 ...i buy Sigma 16mm f1.4 after watching your video..my top 5 lens for Sony A6000..it is really sharp ..i use manual focus on it ...do i need any other lens for landscape photography which is sharp like Sigma 16mm F1.4
Sir please make a video on the 7artisans 50mm f/1.1 lens leica m mount adapted to the sony a6500
7artisans f1.1 and the a6000?
Whichever 😁😁 out of the a6000 series camera! I just want to know how the wide f/1.1 aperture would perform! There are a couple reviews on the lens but The way lenses are reviewed here is outstanding an to the point! Moreover honest☺️
x2 xD.
Sony 90mm f2.8 macro lens review pls 😭
Kamlan 50mm 1.1 mk2 or 7artisan 55mm is better
Very interesting collection....
oh man I have Rok 12 and it's fine but wide...so now you are making me get the 21. i guess then it is a great imtprovement over Sigma 19 2.8 DN.
Try the rokinon 135mm f2 ;)
great lens
Hi there and thanks for your educative work, have you ever tested the 50 mm F1.7 Minolta MD mount? and if you did test it what is your opinion?
Which lens do you think produces better image quality, zonlai 22mm or kamlan 28mm?
The Kamlan 28mm.
Hey! The kamlan 28mm or the zonlai 22mm is a better lens. The difference in focal lengths doesn't matter to me but since they are at around the same price i was wondering which one you would recommend.
Can you make a comparison between E 50mm f1.8 and FE 50mm f1.8 on a6000, please? :D
Could it be that the 21 mm lens is sold by different distributors? For me this from Rokinon, Samyang and Walimex Pro ist all the same only with different branding.
Hey could you please please do a video comparing the sigma 16mm vs rokinon 12mm??? I'm deciding between which one to get !!!!
Amazing, would you suggest manual lens for low light for a6000 ? Thanks in advance
Thanks for video!
Awesome video! Would you go with the kamlan 28mm 1.4 or the sigma 30mm 1.4?
EDIT: Misread that as the Sigma 30 F2.8, which I think the Kamlan outperforms. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 is in a higher tier and is the better lens. Optically I think only the Sigma 16mm F1.4 is sharper than the Sigma 30mm F1.4 (and only slightly).
That's surprising considering the high quality of the Sigma 30mm and relatively good price for AF! Is it the sharpness? Colors?
Thanks for the quick reply! Love your videos
Wow, am I the only one shocked by this statement? The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is very highly regarded. Aside from price, how is the Kamlan superior?
I love the Sigma 30mm f1.4 Great quality. But on manual focus is far to be the best, awful in manual focus to work with. It is the opposite then the Sigma 19mm and the great Sigma 60mm, superb in manual mode to handle.
Wow, that Rokinon 21mm...
Thank you!
Which should I get for small products photography?
A macro lens!
Something sharper than my kit lens. For tripod use only, indoor only, single product shot, flatlay shots.
I don't really need macro shots. Any recommendation?
Have you ever had your hands on the Samyang 50mm f1.2 lens? If yes, then what are your thoughts about it?
What's the point if you can use old lenses for the same price. Since all these chinese lenses are suffering from counter-light and lens flaring. Isn't it better to buy a $4 adapter and $80 F1.4 lens?
Would you rather suggest the zonlai 22mm or the kamlan 28mm ? I want a smartphonish fov but with my camera. I mean of course it's 5mm less but a stop more with it's f/1.4 should be better or am i wrong ? Thank you for this video!
Suggest 60 mm macro lens for this body
Hi Arthur, Very informative!, Greetings from Colombia.
Arthur, I have a Sony a6000 and the kamlan 28mm; To improved my outdoor portraits which do you this is better? This 7artisans 55mm, The Kamlan 50mm f1.1 or the Youngnou with autofocus 50mm f1.8?
Hey, have you decided which is the best?
Would you mind to make top 5 sharp lenses for a6000 please? I need advice for the sharper one.... i have 3 lenses now.. meike 16, sony 50mm and sony 16-55.... thanks a lot...
Hi ! Have you checked the Laowa 9mm? Seems like a beast :)
what lens should i get for newborn shots? about to have twins in a couple of weeks.
Hi, which one is better
1. Rokinon 21 mm f 1.4
2. Kamlan 28 mm f 1.4
3. Sigma 16 mm f 1.4
thank u
Sigma 16mm F1.4 is the best on your list!
Toby Horn what?
So...the zonlai or the kamlan has better picture quality?
Arthur, any experience with the rokinon / samyang 135mm f2?
Hello TM.. i have a question for you i just bougth a6000. I have a plan to buy a lense .. please give advise i have plan to buy 35mm sel or 50mm sel.. combine with 35mm meike or 7 artisans.. and then sel 50-210..

Have you reviewed the samyang 50mm f1.2?
Not yet.
TechnologyMafia You should try it. It's definitely interesting.
I have a Sony 6000 thanks to you and i love my camera! What do you think about if I use Canon lenses in my camera? Or some Nikon lenses as well? Thanks! I like a lot your Channel!
You can certainly use them, as long as you are okay with manual focus! Autofocus adapters dont usually work well.
TechnologyMafia thanks! I'm seeing other brands because Sony just have one zoom lens... I just saw Sigma 70-300mm and i don't know if it is a good lens. I'm just a rookie trying to understand witch lenses should i'll buy...
Please update the list for 2020
Have you reviewed or have an opinion on the 7artisans 50mm f1.8?
