    “You and me have our own sense of time” goes from describing a loving couple on a world of their own to acceptance about each of them having different senses of time. Probably their most beautiful song up until this point.

      It's also a play on words- "Though we live on the US dollar you and me we have our own *cents* of time"
      Ezra Koenig's great at wordplay, no wonder he was an English teacher for a bit.

    Every single time 2: 40 part comes up, I just want to close my eyes and soak it up. Such an amazing piano riff

    Really cool analysis. Hannah Hunt is one of the best songs ever written in my opinion. I heard it live for the first time about a week ago in Chicago and cried because the lyrics and instrumentation are just sooo beautiful and heartbreaking and cathartic all at the same time.

      I'm gad you liked the analysis! Yeah, it's seriously such a great song. Seeing it live must have been so epic!

    Damn, that New York Times line is really something. You could even reeeeally stretch it and say that while Ezra was looking for something to spark things back up (kindling), Hannah was busy tearing up existing parts of their lives in a futile effort to do the same.\
    bit much maybe

    omfg. i never even thought about 'New York Times' double entendre. genius. also, the orchestration hit at the end of this song is absolute bliss

    This is awesome. Before I never properly understood the New York Times line. It makes a lot more sense now! Keep it up.

    Definitely my favorite vampire weekend song and one of my favorite songs ever. It stands out to me because it doesn’t feel like a song. Along with the genius lyrics, the instrumentation is very atmospheric and feels like a memory. Especially that bass work. The emotion is really hard to pinpoint. Ezra sounds weary and desensitized until he cracks at that climactic point near the end. The songs like nothing else from them or anyone else.

    great video but I’m pretty sure it’s
    “In Santa Barbara, Hannah cried,
    ‘I miss those freezing beaches’. “
    and not
    “Amidst those freezing beaches”

    Dude you should do a video on Oloff! He's this really weird artist from the UK who does a bunch of different genres and is kind of all over the place but in a really interesting way. I don't really know how to describe it but his work is very cool, I think you'd like it

  • @dreamofsleeping1980
    @dreamofsleeping1980 4 роки тому +1

    This is no reflection on your well made video. I checked the song out. I had never heard it before and I found it so unbelievably not interesting it kind of freaked me out how everyone in the comments loved it so much. I sometimes think there is something wrong with my brain. The melody was just so boring.

    • @conflux2300
      @conflux2300  4 роки тому +1

      Fair enough. I agree that the melody isn't spectacular. For me the lyrics are what make the song cool. Still, thanks for watching!
