Hey! Future Tiptoe here. Thanks for checking out these videos! If you'd like to keep up on UA-cam Community info, I'll be posting extra bits of info here in the future: ua-cam.com/users/TiptoeTheTankcommunity As of this post, this is a relatively young channel. I've only really been around since the end of 2020. I hope to be around for the foreseeable future; I'm excited to watch this little passion project grow. More info and content will come with time! Thank you for being here so early in the game. PEACE! -Tip
IMO, the evil spirits are fragments of one's soul caused by early childhood trauma which then grows and develops along with the "physical" and stunts the "good" fragment's growth, hence them being children. I'm thinking the cop guy was a clinical psychopath and was able to adapt with his "evil" soul fragment, but, like a tumor, it still stunts his normal souls growth. I think with the Maw gone for good (or wearing M's skin), Thomas can leave the that place but to wander the empty soul world, kinda like a purgatory since that IS his real world self. idk what im talking about
That "idk what im talking about" resonated with me on a deep level. 😆 I love the take that they're beasts that stem from childhood/life experiences; that makes sense too! I liked how everything they talked about for Henry's character development had weight and meaning. Even when he attacks Thomas, it's character development. I would like to more about The Maw specifically; the "suit wearing" thing could be a reference to what Thomas does in butchering souls, but made new in Lily's abilities. We don't really see what Lily can do, so maybe she's unique and The Maw represents that. Yet... The Maw can pass on to a new host somehow? So interesting! I'm so interested to know what Real Thomas has been doing in the spirit world (if my theory is correct; I could be wrong!).
As someone who in recent months discovered your videos, I have to say I really enjoy them, and you have such a lovely voice. It just lends itself to recordings so well. Thank you.
I think Marianne experiences these rifts everywhere. She could feel energy from the Maw, the hound, Richard, Lily, Thomas, even Jack. When she arrives, i think she feels energy from people who died in the war.
It seems weird probably, but I really enjoy this as a writer project. I used to have an interest in writing but found story planning and summation to be difficult, which is, of course a part of preplanning. This is an amazing exercise and I feel like if I ever pick up the pen again, this might be an excellent exercise. As an added bonus, it also is a great way to learn the stories of games I haven't the time to play (another sacrifice to the altar of adulthood).
@@TiptoeTheTank For the rift,I would say its origin is largely irrelevant but what it represents is certainly apocalyptic. A hole between the spirit world and the physical world where potentially any spirit could pass over is troubling at best. We all saw how terrible the maw was. There's no telling what's on the other side and now they have a way into the physical one.
Thanks for your take. When I played, I took it as he squealed on Rose's family to accuse the stepfather, so he could protect his mother. He could never forgive himself when he found that Rose had died because of it. I like your version better.
@@ahoam He retaliated by contacting the authorities to report that the step-father had been illegally hiding Jewish people in their home. The authorities came to Richard's home and executed not only his stepfather, but also Rose, leaving Richard devastated.
@@essenceofveles But the video states that Richard's mother accused the stepfather and Tip Toe says 'imagine what Polish men would do to a sympathiser of Nazi Germany' when referring to what the stepfather being accused of hiding someone
I took the experience with Richard's mother and stepfather to be that the Jews were being hidden by Richard's family and his mother gave them up to be rid of the stepfather, which is how Rose died (execution). This added to Richard's self-hate because if he had been able to protect his mother, she wouldn't have had to tell the Nazis about the people they were concealing. I could be totally wrong.
I wondered if the Maw was just a manifestation or growth from Lily or a thing that came to Lily. None of the other monsters seem able to take on another body and seemed consumed with the "child" trapped within. I'm not convinced the Maw isn't a demon of some sort coming thru Lily.
just finished this and was looking for the answer to the same question you had at 28:00, but stayed to the end because of your great work. Well Done :) I know I'm super late to this party, but i will leave my take on it... I think the writers of the project wanted to leave it open ended in the hopes of coming back for a sequel, but after reading the developers never had any intentions of expanding on the game, i doubt we'll get our answers. I believe the most likely is that Thomas opened that rift to go searching for his spirit self in order to try and save Lily after calling Marianne and realizing how useless he was to his daughters without his spirit . I feel like that would be the best setting for the sequel. getting to play as Thomas as a normal human in the spirit realm fighting demons to recover his powers. At least it would be consistent with him coming back after sensing his spiritual part die after facing the maw. i wish we could get a conclusion, a lot was left unanswered
I must say if not for your explanation and attention to detail I really would have missed out on a interesting story with such a strong narrative grip, while other channels just summerize this plot you ma lady do not.
Randomly found this channel through the Dishonored videos being recommended and I gotta say youtubes recommended finally gave me some good content. Great quality and you just have a nice voice to listen to in the background. I played the Medium and greatly enjoyed the story of it, which is honestly the only reason I kept playing cause in my opinion the gameplay is extremely lackluster and just a big walking sim. I really do hope we get a sequel after the silent hill 2 remake.
Most of the people explain the story of The Medium in the same order as the game tells it, which is a huge mistake, since the game tells it in a puzzle way so to speak, i.e. not chronologically. Thanks for making the great effort of doing the right thing story wise and congrats for pulling it off. The only 3 mistakes I think you made are the following : 1. You say the "rift" of the Niwa resort main building is the thing that bugs you the most. To me it's pretty clear it's just a metaphor of the split souls that lived in that place, torn between good and bad, Richard being the main example of this (the Child Eater vs just the innocen child) (Henry is an exception to this, since he's bad from his own nature, his father's actions do NOT justify Henry being so bad). Just like the souls, the place is torn between good and bad, since there were good moments (Richard innocently flirting with the nurse) and bad moments ("the nurse killed them all"). What I think should bug you the most is all Thomas related, and I also think the devs want you to feel that way to justify a sequel. I mean, who in the hell was that guy you see through the window at the Niwa resort entrance gate and what is he doing there (you didn't mention this in the video). What is the meaning of all the Thomas' recollections in the junction-between-realities clock mission, what's the meaning of his agenda of the day on his desk (check up on L being the last thing to do, check up the forest path being another one, as if to make sure Marianne can trek through it) and what's the meaning of the salt, broken glass and ashes on his desk. 2. You say Richard's stepfather was killed by polish people for supporting the nazi movement, but it's clearly the other way around (because of the Star of David necklace Rose has): Richard's mother ratted the stepfather out by saying he was hiding jewish people near the house, so the nazis (Poland invaders throughout the whole second world war) hanged the stepfather up/killed him along with Rose, thus Richard feeling guilty, because if Richard had killed his stepfather with Richard's father's knife, Rose would still be alive. 3. The first time you mention Francis letting Lilly escape from the bunker, I'd swear you say it's after the massacre, but it's actually right before the massacre, thus why Marianne hears Francis in his tent explicitly saying that all the people that died was because of Francis letting "it" out ("it" being Lilly's Maw). By the way, this may be THE ONLY time Marianne feels sth (Francis' words) coming from the spirit world while she's only in the material one. The greatest thing about this game is the story, which is almost perfectly puzzled together. The only things that are not completely explained are Thomas' related, which the devs did on purpose to justify a sequel that will explain what in the hell was the real Thomas exacty doing during the events of Marianne's story. The most interesting element of the game is its take on the origins of human drive, which is divided into two types: 1. experiences->feelings (Richard) vs 2. your own nature (Henry). Number 1 is shown via the spiritual world being a consequence of the material world, which makes the spiritual world more grounded (this being sth I dig). Have a good day y'all :)
eh this game just didnt do it for me. I really wanted to like it. But good god it's so boring. I've never had this happen before but I actually fell asleep in the middle of the game it was so fkn boring.

The fact that it takes half of the video before the game even starts shows how deep the lore goes
I can't wait for you to cover the prequel, Small, and the Medium 2: Large
😂
Next games after the sequel:
Medium 2: Extra Large
Medium 2: Extra Extra Large
Medium: Alyx
I like the Well Done spin off, the Rare was quite underwhelming
I'm the 69th like. Nice.
You legit got me for a minute! I just saw PREQUEL and SEQUEL before reading the names😂

I have never binged an entire channel so quickly. You do amazing work *firm handshakes all around*
Firm handshakes. We meet for cigars and whiskey on the morrow.

I advise you to play and maybe retell Singularity
It has a good story
I'll check it out, thank you for the recommendation!
