    I think everybody should buy phisycal albums of their favourite bands. Everytime I get a chance, I buy it. But, the bands only became my favourites because one day I downloaded their stuff and gave them a chance. Therefore, I believe downloaded should never become ilegal. Sorry for the bad english... had to learn it all alone.

    Be glad there's still some people buying the cds, thats the best way to have the best music quality 100% sure + supporting you guys, I never heard of this band before i bought 2 of your albums at once. I really liked the music and I know now that Alissa was a co-signer in Sacrimony with Elize Ryd by Kamelot, i really liked that song with 2 girls signing a different style but all combined together was awesome...

    Well, I've been in concerts,festivals, and so on...
    Travel a lot to see metal bands all over the world....with ONE income.
    Most people do great sacrifices to go to concerts and support the bands!
    I know most people will keep doing it that way but artists and labels alike have to come an agreement of how survive in a monetary system within a FREE spirit culture.
    In order metal bands financially prosperous is changing the traditions of every country. That's not gonna happen overnight.

    Well,I would definitely buy their new record, but for me, there's just the option of illegaly downloading it, for free. I live in Argentina so I really can't get it, but I will definitely go to their show here and buy stuff at the merch table. I think it's really important supporting them but free download it's also a way of spreading the music worldwide, like, if I couldn't do so I wouldn't have heard not a single Agonist song and wouldn't love them like I do now.. It hs pros and cons, you know

    The Agonist should drop the label, another canadian band called "Protest the Hero" used a crowdfunding website called Indiegogo to fund their album. Fans buy the album and other really cool merch/perks from the website to fund their next album. Protest the Hero has doubled their fundraising goal and there is still time to raise more. The Agonist could get just as much money raised for their next album. :)

    She really knows the music scene. She is smart. But I feel people are downloading songs online cause they aren't able to get the physical album in regular stores. Only the more "famous" bands get their albums sold there; you know, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, Evanescence etc. Its hard to find albums from lesser known bands. If these more independent bands can find a way to sell their albums internationally, I think that might lessen this problem.

  • @FalconFlurry
    @FalconFlurry 6 років тому

    I think the whole music industry is broken, tbh, i don't think people aren't buying CDs because they can download it for free, i think it's primarily because CDs have become obsolete, people use digital music now, whether it is from digital downloads, piracy, or streaming services like Google Play and apple music. I have been downloading music for a long time, but if i really like an album or an artist i will go out and buy the vinyl to support the artist. vinyl is much more expensive than CDs, but i don't mind if i appreciate the artist, and i like vinyl because i like the big artwork and they look really good on display. I will also go to the concert if i want to support them. I would gladly pay twice as much for concerts if it meant listening to the music online or downloading it was free.

    Being a "member of the Metal scene", I think that a metalhead is someone who doesn't give a crap about what other people think of them because they feel good about who they are. Music included. So why would you bother about other metalheads being accessorized with "fishing lures"? It's not like you'll have to talk to them or even look at them. And I'm sorry if the metal scene isn't the same as back in the 80's. Scenes and trends that comes with them tempt to change like fashion does.

    she says that labels should just dissolve and go away i disagree its the label that gives bands start up money...for promotion and tours a lot of the artist we know and love wouldnt have gotten far with out a label backing them sure they had a buzz here and there but producing your own album,touring,food,etc all that costs money and your average joe musician cant do all that on there own but yes record labels need to change their model and how they do business,that's like saying the health care industry should die off yes they have there flaw which could use work but saying they need to dissolve would do more harm then good because alot of people depend on it.

    • @MosheAlvarez
      @MosheAlvarez 10 років тому +1

      Shit, what label were you on that gave you money? I was more broke being signed to a label than I was before I was signed. She's right, unless you're on a major label which isn't going to happen if you're playing Metal, you are committing to a life of zero money and tons of headaches. Been there, done that!

    • @MosheAlvarez
      @MosheAlvarez 10 років тому

      It's really very simple, if one is on a small label then that means there will be no money and any money one might receive from a label is "recoupable" which means you have to pay it back. In most cases, any money received by a band by their label needs to be paid back before the band ever sees any profit. Most bands never make enough money to pay back that initial advance so they must tour and tour and tour to make little to no money (which is the most common thing) to try and pay back the money that was loaned for recording, merch etc. There were a few times where I was on tour with local bands that were actually making money not being on a label. Nowadays, you can do pretty much anything you want without the need for a label. Now if you're a Rapper or and Pop musician, then a label will help but for anyone else playing Metal, you're better off on your own most of the time. A band like Arch Enemy might do well on their own label and take care of themselves because they already have an established fan base but the rest of us are fucked LOL

    • @MosheAlvarez
      @MosheAlvarez 10 років тому

      Hate to be the one to piss on your parade but the days of Rock Stars are long over. There will NEVER be a Metal band as big as Metallica or someone like that.

    • @MosheAlvarez
      @MosheAlvarez 10 років тому

      I pretty much covered that in my last message. Money often comes from the band's pocket. Labels HATE giving out money and often won't give any out if the band still owes on the original loan for recording or whatever. It sucks dude, if you're looking to be a musician, be prepared to live a life of poverty and obscurity if you plan on playing Metal music. If you become a session player or play in a cover band, you actually have a WAY better chance of making some money.

    • @rbagel55
      @rbagel55 8 років тому

      +Moshe Alvarez Yeah but to be a really good session player, like Guthrie Govan for instance, you basically have to play guitar 10+ hours a day for several years just to that point, and that is if only you have the musical
      talent and drive to do so. I'm 50, and back in the late 80's early 90's I was good enough to keep busy playing around the Austin TX music scene.I'm not that serious anymore, have to hold a day job. So I just keep it as
      a hobby

    Pirating is like a double-edged sword, to be honest.
    Sure, it hurts the band at first, but it's also putting their name out there. Case in point, the first time I stumbled across The Agonist it was illegally. If I recall correctly, it took me under a week to physically buy the two albums they'd released by then.
    TL;DR: The Agonist owes the three albums I bought so far to some guy pirating Lullabies for the Dormant Mind and uploading it to the internet.

    I understand the point you are trying to make, however I don't completely agree.
    Whether you are anti-establishment or want to be part of the establishment or of some kind of trend. If you are into metal, then you are into it. It doesn't matter what kind of person you are, you can still listen to whatever you want and do whatever you want. At least that is how I see it.
    But you are right that for some it is 'cool' to be part of the metal 'trend' just to be 'cool'. But they'll never last =P

  • @TimCools_WithALongO

    I agree with her. Screw record labels. All they do is tell musicians what they have to do and what they cannot do, then get their mostly undeserved money, and if these musicians refuse, their career is over or will never be existent in the first place. That's how you get people like One Direction and Justin Bieber who (despite the fact that I don't exactly classify them as musicians) are slaves to the record companies that make this fabricated image that they have to portray. Granted, these two examples were sellouts from day 1, but still.
