Pretty please circle back the the dawn of Arch Enemy when Angela was singing no offence to Alissa she is good but Angela's voice is much better love it if i listen to one sing with mordern Arch enemy i need to equal it out with 3 of the old songs my favorite is Nemesis
Yeeesssss🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 Their new song “Handshake with Hell” would make a good vid also. Alissa shows off her range. Still looking forward to Matt Corby - Brother thou. 😉
Alissa is the best example of clean, very technical harsh vocals. Without any type of filter, very natural. Especially her diction!!! spectacular, one of the few advantages that is understood what she sings!
If you want to hear her clean vocals, listen to her from back when she was in The Agonist. Also, don't deprive yourself of Angela Gossow singing for Arch Enemy before Alyssa.
Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow was the band that really got me into death metal: the vocals and the guitar sound in particular. Before Arch Enemy, I only went as far as metalcore stuff (Bullet For My Valentine, Killswitch Engage etc), but it wasn't until I came to love Arch Enemy that I was able to open my mind to the vast, varied and fascinating world of metal beyond the mainstream. For that, I owe my love for death metal to Arch Enemy.
Same here. I was good with growling in balance, but not to the exclusion of clean vocals. Arch Enemy was the band that broke hearts on extreme metal for me. I was listening to a lot of Maiden at the time, so they hit the right niche, I guess.
She is a great grrrowler! You really need to also listen to Angela Gossow, the former frontwoman of Arch Enemy. She has a fantastic voice and commanding stage persona. We will rise or Nemesis is two great songs she performs live.
Angela Gossow HAS to be next, especially since talking to Alissa without knowing who she is would be really awkward. Angela's royalty, the Godmother, and perhaps the greatest live frontwoman metal's ever seen. I'd suggest "Burning Angel" from their live in Tokyo dvd, but any song from that concert will do. cheers Elizabeth!
Agreed on the need to check out Gossow. Just like how you can't listen to the current metal guys without harkening back to Dio, you can't listen to the current female growlers without going back and hearing Angela! The Live in Tokyo version of "Nemesis" is a good one to start with, IMO--you get her vocals and her stage presence all wrapped up in one video.
Problem being that Johan Liiva is a much superior harsh vocalist, and picking a song from the era where he was the original vocalist seems... disrespectful, as his version both is superior and more vocally impressive. At least pick a song made as Gossow where the main vocalist(2000-2014), and when the songs made aren't outshined by direct comparison to his. All that being said, this isn't a knock on Gossows importance in the metal scene, and in particular showing the labels that they both work, and became a selling point. She is indeed a Godmother that deserves her metal star.
Jeff Loomis, the guy with the red guitar, is one of the most insane guitar players you'll hear. If you want to check out some of his instrumental work, he did a project called Conquering Dystopia that is absolutely monstrous
I haven't kept up with the metal community in over a decade so when I saw Jeff Loomis my brain was like "but wasn't he in another band" and had to look it up, I first heard of him when he was playing for nevermore
It's not a great first listen (I mean the song, not the reaction). There is nothing specifically epic about this song at first glance but then you forget about it and years later the melody starts randomly playing in your head all the time and you get reminded of the amount of energy this shit has. You just want to scream out the whole lyrics.
I know there's bad blood and drama involved here, but, honestly, nothing I've heard her do in Arch Enemy has impressed me anywhere close to her vocals on The Agonist's 2009 album, "Lullabies of the Dormant Mind". Don't mistake that to mean that I don't think her vocal talent is present in Arch Enemy. I just think it's very one-dimensional as compared to that album which, IMHO, is an absolute masterpiece of an album for every musician involved on it. Arch Enemy just seems like a formulaic payday supergroup of top-tier metal musicians -- which, more power to them as they all certainly deserve it! I hope I'm not coming off as a "hater," because that's not my intention. The music of Arch Enemy on its own merits is certainly above average. For better or for worse, I'm just locked into comparing it to stuff they've all done prior and I wish a bit more of that would come through. For instance, Alissa doing a wider range of vocals in a song that, riff-wise, is closer to something Loomis wrote for the Nevermore album, "This Godless Endeavor". Admittedly, I haven't listened to any more than a handful of Arch Enemy songs per the current line-up, so I could be speaking out of ignorance on some of this. In that case, I'd love for someone to let me know which song(s) I'm sleeping on so I can check them out! \m/,
This song grew on me with time. I agree though, their new singles would be a better showcase of her talent. Alissa shows off a lot more range in “Handshake With Hell”
Well, now you really have to check out Angela Gossow, the former vocalist and current manager of Arch Enemy. She was an absolute beast in live shows, so maybe take a look at the Tokyo concert from 2008.
If you think Alissa is scary, you should check out something with their previous vocalist, Angela. She's truely scary. Maybe Nemesis or Ravenous live in Japan hmmm
You need to check their song too "Deciever, Deceiver" cause you will get shock after hear some layers vocals there 😅, or maybe can check their good old stuff "Nemesis" while still with Angela Gossow and "Burning Bridges" while still with Johan Liiva 🙂
I’m sure it’s been said but “ Handshake with Hell” really shows her vocal ability. Currently my favorite track by them and the band itself it just god tier. Michael and Jeff on guitar are a nasty combo.
Arch Enemy is a band that leaves you pumped up. The song are also very empowering. They also have a great hook the makes the crowd chant. Check them out live. Nemesis live in Tokyo 2008 with Angela and also Nemesis live at Wacken with Allyssa.
Alissa is fantastic, as was Angela. To compare one to the other does both of them an injustice. They are different but both amazing, neither better nor worse than each other. I loved seeing that look on your face when the guitar solo hit. It's a great example of the Gothenburg sound, and may lead you down a very enjoyable rabbit hole. Great analysis as always!
Yes, you have to Do another Arch Enemy reaction from the Angela Gossow era. If you're going to do something live has to be from their 2008 live performance in Tokyo. Best songs from that would be "Nemesis", "We Will Rise", or "Ravenous". Another good choice would be their official video for "Under Black Flags We March"
This is the song that convinced me to give Arch Enemy a try after Angela left, and it’s become one of my favorites. An analysis of “Handshake with Hell” off the new album would be a lot of fun. Not only is it Alyssa at her growly best, but she does some clean singing on the track as well.
@@HeyyItsDaleVODS I love the agonist. It's the band I first heard Alyssa perform in. I loved how she went back and forth from her opera singing and screams.
It's so refreshing to go on UA-cam and find someone nerding out about diphtongs. You provide a lot of depth and sophistication in the lately very shallow field of social media.
Great to finally hear some Arch Enemy on the channel, I'd be interested to hear your views on some older Arch Enemy stuff, with Angela Gossow as lead vocalist, my particular favorite song is Nemesis.
Handshake with hell is a true epic masterpiece. Saw AE back in the Angela days many times. They still are one of the top bands in my book. AWG is such a great Singer and inspiration. Looking forward to Tea time. Cheers from Sweden
Check out Arch Enemy "Nemesis" ua-cam.com/video/fS-YHJbmAXs/v-deo.html This is with their old singer Angela (Angela hand picked Alissa as her replacement when she retired and still manages the band). Alissa is great, love the new stuff with her, but Angela delivers like a beast. She is also very active with the crowd like Bruce Dickinson and all over the stage. Angela was not the first, but she was huge in paving the way for women in death metal. She is awesome.
Alissa has a very nice clean vocals too! You've got to check it out. I'd suggest "The Escape" from her previous band The Agonist, where she mixes harsh and clean vocals. Even in the clean parts, there's a lot of tension in it. She is freaking scary indeed xD
Saw her live a month ago in Budapest (Hungary) for the very fist time. At a Behemoth/Arch Enemy/Carcass show. Before the concert I had hardly known anything about her and the band. But then I am absolutely amazed. Their music, the heavy parts, the melodic parts, and her unique voice so cool.
So happy to see Alissa featured and really looking forward to tea time! Her vocal range is staggering - from the very deepest growls to the Swan Lake acapella recorded with The Agonist - and her agility to move so rapidly between registers is incredible. I had difficulty with adjusting to growls but found that was because of exposure to people producing a dirge I could not understand. Alissa (and her predecessor at Arch Enemy, Angela Gossow) have terrific diction and it made a *world* of difference. I'm sure a lot of people don't understand why some of us enjoy this raw sound but fact is that life isn't always pretty and beautiful and there is something to be found in sounds of fury, regret, frustration, anger. Think of it this way - van Gogh's Starry Night is an incredible piece of art that is lovely to look at. But Munch's The Scream is ALSO an incredible piece of art. Should we discount it because it isn't pretty, because it is disquieting and unsettling and disturbing?
as usual people dont like things that they dont understand, sadly it's a common trait in human beings, takes an open mind to shake off that ingrained ignorance.
Awesome video, Elizabeth! In your own time, I think you'd love to hear her a cappella performance of "Swan Lake, Op. 20". Given your profession and talent, you'll definitely hear and appreciate it with a unique set of ears. It's a wonderful snapshot of her range with clean vocals!
Right now Alissa stands alone at the top. Her vocal range is just amazing for both clean and harsh vocals. There's an interview with her and she talks about a recording of her singing Swan Lake a cappella where she goes so high its unreal. Something you would really geek over lol. I'm looking forward to your interview with her.
I saw Alissa with her previous band, The Agonist, years ago opening for Epica. After their set I purchased the album Lullabies For a Dormant Mind from Alissa herself. I had to scrounge up a fair amount of change to meet the price so I told her "nothing like buying metal with metal," which got a smile and a chuckle from her. My other big memory from that show was being rendered nearly deaf by a band called Scar Symmetry. Also, make no mistake, Alissa gets all the attention, and deserves every bit of it, but it is the guitars of Michael Amott and Jeff Loomis that are the band's backbone, laying down a jagged and blistering soundscape for the savage, sapphire-haired succubus to work her brutal magic.
Scar Symmetry is another great suggestion for this channel. Especially the early stuff with Christian Alvestam as the singer doing both clean and harsh vocals. He's nuts.
I'd like to suggest Liki Bessmertnykh Bogov by Arkona. The lyrics are in Russian. The verses are spoken and the choruses are sung clean. The middle part has harsh vocals after a flute solo - at the very end of those harsh vocals is one of the most amazing vocal sounds I have ever heard. I'd also like to mention that these are my favorite reaction videos by far. Elizabeth is such a beautiful person. I always enjoy her facial expressions and reactions as well as her commentary and explanations.
I had never heard of Arch Enemy or Alissa's vocals before this moment. I'm amazed by the clean harsh vocals, and I definitely need to go listen to more of it. Thank you for broaden my horizon ❤️
Alissa is amazing. She's sounding even better than ever on the recent singles they've released for the upcoming album. It's shaping up to be great with everyone in fine form. I'm pretty hyped. Speaking of, Tea Time with Alissa! She's lovely, and she had that great chat with Floor a while back. I'm looking forward to a longer form interview with Alissa here now. Consider me stoked!
Alissa is total sweetheart, I saw her in Floor interview. Their new song Handshake with Hell Alissa sings in clean vocals almost half of the song. Lots of love and support to you Elizabeth, and your husband. And upcoming baby of course.
@@osez111 so I've been told too. In fearness i only know what I've seen in interviews and what Elize said about Alissa. They seemed to get along nicely. Well either way until proven otherwise i support her work.
Hi Elizabeth, this is my first time listening to this song, and I enjoyed the performance. I was really captivated by the stamina Alissa had w/ her harsh vocals throughout the song, and the band was fantastic. I look forward to your Tea Time Interview in the near future. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
I absolutely love how you not only breakdown the vocals and how they are sung but also the way you express how it effects you while listening to them for the first time along with the music! I grew up listening to hard rock then progressed to metal and it's been my favorite type of music ever since. I enjoy your take on it and how much fun you have with listening to and reviewing it! I really appreciate your views and your voice from what I have heard you sing and even how you speak so proper and clearly. You certainly chose the right profession of being a vocal coach and make me excited to see your new videos especially with metal videos! I would really like to see your reaction to some of my other favorite artists and you have already covered some such as both singers of Arch Enemy!
Teatime with Alyssa will be so much fun, she seems to be cool lass and really intelligent about her vocal techniques. Have been growing into Arch Enemy during this time, Wacken live versions of Nemesis and War Eternal have been in total powerplay during couple of last years, and all three singles for upcoming album are solid.
While you are dipping into the realm of metal/metalcore. Check out the band Trivium! I saw Arch Enemy open for them a few years ago. Trivium is one of my favorites!
I mentioned Reason To Believe when you first saw Alyssa with Kamelot, I’ll drop it in again - I really like the song, and she switches between clean, distorted, and growls as the song progresses. It’s got a beautiful melody and the lyrics are really cool as well (I’m not always a fan of Arch Enemy’s really anarchy driven lyrics XD)
Deceiver is brilliant, probably my favorite new track. Handshake with Hell also very good, Alissa has an awesome voice when she’s not growling, and even better when growling 😂🤘🏼
"Handshake with hell" is a song I waited for since her performance with Tarja in Wacken "Deamons in you". Alissa can both kinds of singing very well. Indeed "Deamons are a girl's ..." is another great performance of her. In that one the combination with Powerwolf (Attila) is a amazing contrast of what vocalist can do to a song.
Amazing video. Absolutely loved it. I am a huge fan of Arch Enemy and Alissa as well so for me it was like a dream come true to watch Elizabeth react to "The Eagle Flies Alone" 10/10
Love their new stuff, especially House of Mirrors and Handshake with Hell. Really like the last one cause you get both her growls and her lovely clean vocals, much like Kamelot's Liar, Liar. Maybe react to that one and get some Tommy as well. My favorite Alissa perfromance is the music video with Powerwolf and Demons are a Girls Best Friend. Love the catchiness of the song, the church organ vibes, her harsh vocals that are a perfect fit for the song, and then the amazing costumes. Cosplay Elizabeth will totally nerd out over them, including Alissa's tiefling minions.
Love it when you're giggling, your face expression during the reaction, the way you listen to the music... you live music and thats always great to see :)
It was such a sweet moment when Angela Glasgow chose Alissa to be her successor. I was at the concert and Alissa's reaction was priceless. So amazing. 😻
It’s great to see harsh vocals get love and analysis just like clean vocals. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but no reason that both can’t get representation on the channel, very much appreciated Elizabeth. Harsh vocals are just another form of expression after all. If you’re looking for more metal I recommend symphonic death metal band Fleshgod Apocalypse, they have so many gems, The Fool is a great example. m.ua-cam.com/video/GXOucG8rM5k/v-deo.html
So glad you reacted to this! It's my favourite Arch Enemy song! Listening to your analysis enhances my appreciation of the song for me. You open up so many more levels in the music than I could ever find on my own. I love hearing this after your videos as I hear so much more of it afterwards! Thank you! I also agree that you should watch "Handshake with Hell". It covers more of Alissa's range.
Your metal analysis videos are the best. I would like to see you go over some of the more metal standards and classics like Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Testament, Danzig, and the like. ✌
Alissa is one of the best artist in the world. I can understand lyrics, despite English being second language for me. Moreover, her character is unique; listened to various interviews regarding music she’s not just singing, but also lyrics composer. Furthermore compassion for animals, natural environment, life in general. Love & Respect 👌👏❤️
Since you asked about the difference between male and female growling, might be worth checking out Amon Amarth as well.. Great band, with a lot of Viking mythology lyrics!
When it comes to female vocalists who sing with harsh vocals, Arch Enemy is the most famous reference. Although they weren't the first, no one achieved as many hits as this band and their previous vocalist Angela Gossow (she did vocals for the band from 2000 to 2014, so, she was singing death metal growls more than 20 years ago!), and as everyone has already commented, she is truly a beast! Alissa is another beast, and a super talented vocalist, but without a doubt, Angela is a fundamental part of the history of Metal music, and a mandatory listen to some one as pasionate about harsh vocals as you.
I would love to see a reaction to Crowded House's song "Don't Dream It's Over", which can be found in an original video and in longer live versions. It's fabulous songwriting by Neil Finn.
This is my absolute favorite band. 'You Will Know My Name' is my favorite song, partly because of how I feel I can relate to the lyrics, though it's one of those bands that really hasn't ever released a song that isn't good with Alissa, nor Angela. Their costume design and hair is always awesome. One of the newer ones 'Deceiver, Deceiver' also had an amazing video btw. EDIT: There are alot of people who complain alot about Angela not doing the vocals here anymore. This is one of the few cases where what couldn't get any better stayed just as good after a change. Angela is extremely talented and no one could have filled her place quite like Alissa did.
Another analysis that gives me a much better appreciation of the musicality of, not only an individual song, but the entire genre. Outstanding. Btw, birds aren't real.
You should react to older Arch Enemy performances as well, with their former singer Angela Gossow. Angela is a force of nature and has even harsher vocals compared to Alissa. Ravenous or Nemesis from their Tokyo tour are great performances.
Makes me sad all these reactors do modern arch enemy. Angela was one of the best live death metal singers ever regardless of gender and among female ones she’s the best. So much power and brutality. Alissa is cool but the band just is not the same at all for me without Chris/Angela, a lot more commercialized now too. In my comment I recommend the same 2 songs as you plus “we will rise”, she’s incredible the whole performance tho and that is the definitive live arch enemy show. Angel’s brutal and ferocious vocals and Chris’s guitar/songwriting just could be replaced for me. Wish they got the same kind of fame they do now in the angela era but they were far less commercialized then so I’m not surprised they didnt get huge.
@@puppetmaster8551 I really like Alissa but I just can't force myself to listen AE with her on vocals. Seems that everyone loves Handshake with hell but I just..... just not the same Arch enemy as it was with Johan or Angela and Chris of course. I felt the same when Robert joined Metallica but I got used to him so maybe with time I'll get used to Alissa in AE 🤣🤣🤣
@@Goran310 ya I just can’t really enjoy her vocals in AE after having to follow up Angela, just lacks the same power and brutality, Im just not a fan of the clean vocals in AE either even tho she’s a good singer, thought she fit much better in her old band the agonist. Their music just isn’t nearly as good and live they will never top performances like the Japan 08 one when Angela/Chris were in the band. The music they made with johan was quality too, I didn’t think he was the great death metal vocalist but the music was amazing and his vocals were serviceable, I think they upgraded vocally by a lot when they got Angela and they continued making a lot of great music. The magic is just gone now with no Chris of Angela. I’m glad they’ve gotten way more popular now so the guys are raking in a lot for money but their sound is way more bland and commercialized. On another note at least Chris is still a part of a great melodeath even if it isn’t AE, current dark tranquility is way better than current AE imo.
War Eternal I think was the first song I heard from them right after Alissa came into the band in 2014 and I’ve been a fan ever since. Another really good example of pitch shifting with harsh vocals that is subtle but works is Amon Amarth. Their vocalist Johan switches from the more rounded gurgle sound to the snarly more nasal scream really well, and he has a really deep voice, very clear diction as well!
You should listen to Alyssa's previous band The Agonist as well as other collabs, in other to get a better picture of her voice because she also has great clean vocals. She was the first female I heard alternate between clean vocals and death growls in the same song, it must be 15 years ago now (yes, I discovered Otep after The Agonist). I think Thank You Pain would be a good one to start. PS. Yes, that vowel modification was done to achieve a higher pitch and, incidentally, that is one of the reasons why it's hard to understand harsh vocals. Just like opera singers, the vowel modification, dropping of the jaw and shape of the mouth that you need in order to produce the appropriate sound makes articulation a bit tricky. For higher pitches the mouth is shaped like an "A", like you said; and for lower pitches, like an "O". Unlike opera singers, harsh vocalists don't have to deal with lifting the soft palate, but they have to work on activating the false vocal chords and other soft tissues. So yeah, as someone who does a bit of both, they are both very technically challenging in different ways.
As a Montrealer, I discovered the Agonist in 2007 and their drummer Simon was a childhood friend of mine. Hearing them grow and Alissa getting "called up" was cool.
For me personally, the most interesting thing I heard was when you talked about Alissa's diction and how clear it is to understand the words. Because Julia did a song not too long ago and mentioned the exact same thing. As a lover of metal and listening to tons of harsh vocals I very much agree that her sound is easier to understand then most. As for the musicians you said how good you thought they were. Know that at one point (not sure if they still are) both guitarists we're ranked in the top 100. If you like those kinds of lists. Great song, great band, great reaction, great channel. Huge thumbs up👍 thank you for letting me start my weekend proper
i remember her last band The Agonist and she has always been a model for most of my women friends, most songs are about staying strong even in your weakest moments and it saved me and my wife. Much love and love your reactions even if i don't comment, i have seen all of them and very instructive. Edit: Can't wait for your tea time with her (she is from where i am from, Montreal, Canada)
Alissa's vocals are great, but this band has become extremely generic and boring. Wish Loomis works on his solo project soon. But sadly, only such generic music seems to sell and I can't blame Loomis for doing this at the moment.
@ayham kimo There's nothing wrong in listening to generic music as long as you enjoy it. But personally, i don't enjoy listening to generic music. I don't see any reason listening to Arch Enemy when there are literally 1000 other bands that sound like them. I'm interested to listen to bands that have their own sound and style. Jeff Loomis was a part of an extremely artistic band. It's just sad to see him do this.
@ayham kimo Not denying that Amott did not help kick-start this genre. I love Carcass and Carnage. Arch Enemy had a decent run with their first 3-4 albums, but the albums after that are simply copy-paste. Of course, you cannot come up with something completely original. No band/artist has and never will. You are bound to be influenced by the music that you like and lots of other factors. But if there is an effort made to make it unique, it shows in the music. I don't think Amott is interested in making any effort to be unique (just saying based on the albums Arch Enemy has been putting out over the past 20 years). Which is totally fine as well. Music can be treated as an art form or just a piece of product for sale. I'm sure a lot of people like to listen to the same style of melodeath. But personally, I like to keep things mixed. I don't see a reason to listen to the same repetitive thing (which I've heard countless times) when there's so much interesting music coming out today. I don't care if they pioneered this. Although generally speaking, most genre pioneers keep evolving and challenging themselves. You mentioned Carcass..pretty much all their albums till Surgical Steel sound different from each other.
@ayham kimo I'm not asking/expecting any band to change just for the sake of change. Sometimes change can be a natural process as well and not just due to a conscious effort. In fact most bands who make honest music, change their music with time. Based on events in their lives, exposure to new music, changes in taste, etc. It's bands like Arch Enemy who try to stick to a genre throughout their career just because their fan base expects a certain sound from them... That's just making music to stay relevant and make money. You don't create anything groundbreaking that way. If a band is happy doing that; good for them. But I wouldn't be interested in a band like that.
Since we enter the territory of arch enemy, please analyze *Angela Gossow* !!!!!!! Specifically Nemesis live in japan and Ravenous live in japan. She is the supreme goddess of growl!!!
Seriously thank you. For someone who loves hanging around the heavier side of music, my aversion to harsh vocals basically meant many fantastic musical journeys were off limits. But thanks to this channel I have warmed up to them, seriously Jinjer is incredible and I can now bridge some of the harsher of vocalists to them. Like everything, there are things I like and things I don't (music is subjective after all) but my musical horizons keep on broadening. Once again, thank you for these great journeys!!
I love showing people this song. I relate to it very well and metal really epitomises a phrase "you LISTEN, not hear" LISTENING to it you can pick up on what's being said, the message and the subtle nuances that weave into the song. Most people don't go beyond hearing to listen to it. They're immediately put off because the harshness of the sound.

I haven't kept up with the metal community in over a decade so when I saw Jeff Loomis my brain was like "but wasn't he in another band" and had to look it up, I first heard of him when he was playing for nevermore
Jeff's old band Nevermore had a pretty epic singer in the late Warrell Dane
jeff loomis is the blond haired guy, mike amott is the red haired guy.
This song is okay IMO. The new singles "Handshake With Hell" and "House of Mirrors" are great representations of her talent.
This one has some echoes of another Swedish band, Amon Amarth, who largely just sing about viking stuff.
This song grew on me with time. I agree though, their new singles would be a better showcase of her talent. Alissa shows off a lot more range in “Handshake With Hell”
Hell yeah the new one handshake with hell in probably one of the best to hear her voice
Cant wait for the interview ..... Love Alissa!!!!
She is GREAT!!! 😍😍😍
Well, now you really have to check out Angela Gossow, the former vocalist and current manager of Arch Enemy. She was an absolute beast in live shows, so maybe take a look at the Tokyo concert from 2008.
this!
I love Angela. She's so amazing
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess!!
YESSS! That Tokyo Live was so badass.
I was going to post the same thing. You said are 100% right.
I love to hear you acknowledge the similarities between classical and metal music! Your deep appreciation for great musicianship is so refreshing
Clear diction is definitely one of Alissa's strength in her harsh vocals. Usually I need to look up lyrics for harsh vocals, but not for her.
One of my favourite bands and songs 😁🤘
"YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME" and "Reason to believe" are epic too, as is e.g. her "Demons are the girls best friend" too 🤘😊👍
Finally someone who appreciates “Reason to believe“. Such a good song. Important message.
@@Fox277 🤘🙂👍
@@Fox277 I love this song deeply, too.
She has always been one of my favorite vocalists. She is perfect with arch enemy. Her talent is able to really shine
Ravenous from that performance was insane. also offers a range of vocals and shows off her impressive stage presence.
Taking Back My Soul. Gotta give Daniel Erlandsson some love too
@@baverfjant daniel is always incredibly relaxed and tight. his drumcams are a joy to watch.
@@Icetongue His drum solo from that live show is one of my favorite for sure.
Oh my... That Ravenous was wild, i don't think i have even realized how much better the vocals were when Angela was the singer.
Arch Enemy have always been at their best with epic and inspiring anthems I believe.
This is the song that convinced me to give Arch Enemy a try after Angela left, and it’s become one of my favorites. An analysis of “Handshake with Hell” off the new album would be a lot of fun. Not only is it Alyssa at her growly best, but she does some clean singing on the track as well.
It was just the other way around with me. Witch Arch Enemy and alsoo with Nightwish kinda. In reverse so to speak,
Alissa still rocks, today on her birthday. Still amazing, still so powerfull. Love this band. Love this song. Perfect description
You should definitely check out her old stuff when she was the vocalist of the agonist. She was amazing in that band also.
100% agree
I haven't thought about The Agonist in yeeears.
Check out Arch Enemy "Nemesis"

This is with their old singer Angela (Angela hand picked Alissa as her replacement when she retired and still manages the band). Alissa is great, love the new stuff with her, but Angela delivers like a beast. She is also very active with the crowd like Bruce Dickinson and all over the stage. Angela was not the first, but she was huge in paving the way for women in death metal. She is awesome.
my god. amazing video Elizabeth! Thank you for the analysis and reaction video. I absolutely love Arch Enemy and am a big fan of Alissa White-Gluz
Alissa has a very nice clean vocals too! You've got to check it out. I'd suggest "The Escape" from her previous band The Agonist, where she mixes harsh and clean vocals. Even in the clean parts, there's a lot of tension in it. She is freaking scary indeed xD
Or with Charlotte Wessels !!!
Business Suites and Combat Boots is the best I think.

Yesssss! You are so awesome with both your reactions and Guests! Thank-you!
Wow, never knew Jeff Loomis joined the band. That alone makes them absolutely legit. One of my favorite modern guitarists of all time.
I remember first hearing Arch Enemy. I was blown away! Both Angela and Alissa kill it!
At some point, add to your list Arch Enemy live in Japan - Ravenous (with OG lead singer Angela Gossow)
In my opinion you should check out Angela Gossow first before this, Arch Enemy live perfomance in Tokyo in 2008
"I just appreciate how good musicians are in metal bands..."
That's why we double appreciate YOU Elizabeth!!!
Thank you so much .... This is my favourite arch enemy song and i was waiting for the reaction ... I can't thank you enough for this
One of my all time favorites! Alissa is amazing with both clean and harsh styles. Can’t wait for the new album 🤘💙👑
He's nuts.
@@ZuFFuLuZ I'd love to see a Scar Symmetry reaction. Christian has an amazing voice!
Damn that had to be a great show three legendary bands that are heavy in my rotation.
@@OneMxnbrxnd It was amazing! 🤘
Check out Business Suites and Combat Boots by The Agonist. Alissa used to be in that band and the mix of clean vocals and growl is amazing.

Oh good call artoo, saw them live and they absolutely SLAY Nemesis.
I love the Tokyo performance of Nemesis with Angela. That beginning scream gets me every time.
Nemesis is not Nemesis without Angela
While you are dipping into the realm of metal/metalcore. Check out the band Trivium! I saw Arch Enemy open for them a few years ago. Trivium is one of my favorites!
I mentioned Reason To Believe when you first saw Alyssa with Kamelot, I’ll drop it in again - I really like the song, and she switches between clean, distorted, and growls as the song progresses.
It’s got a beautiful melody and the lyrics are really cool as well (I’m not always a fan of Arch Enemy’s really anarchy driven lyrics XD)

Since you’ve checked out Alissa, I highly suggest you go back into the band’s history and listen to “Nemesis” with Angela Gassow.
I recommend checking out the music Reason to Believe, where Alissa mixes her voice in soft and aggressive. Excellent lyrics too!

I love Arch Enemy...highly recommend My Apocalypse with Angela Gassow she was amazing as well
Since you asked about the difference between male and female growling, might be worth checking out Amon Amarth as well..
Great band, with a lot of Viking mythology lyrics!
Yes, can't wait for Elizabeth to finally check out Amon Amarth. It's a must for her journey in harsh vocal land. She needs a good viking ship!
I really recommend checking out Arch enemy with Angela Gossow - Blood On your Hands (live from their Tokyo dvd) :)
Another song of Arch Enemy I recommend is Handshake With Hell, which just released. It's fantastic, and even includes some clean vocals.
Alissa is such a treasure! Amazing human being, has her heart at a right place and head on her shoulders.

I would love to see Elizabeth react to more classic 80's tunes.
You should listen to her song Thank You, Pain when she was part of the Agonist. Does a lot of clean singing in it as well. Great show of her range
Adore Alissa so much, hope you do Angela Gossow soon! I'd also love to hear your thoughts on Maria Brink of In This Moment.
Another analysis that gives me a much better appreciation of the musicality of, not only an individual song, but the entire genre. Outstanding.
Btw, birds aren't real.
Alissa has very good clean vocals. Alissa was on Floor Finds

Edit: Can't wait for your tea time with her (she is from where i am from, Montreal, Canada)
Alyssa is a metal goddess.
The blonde guitarist Jeff loomis is the former guitarist from NEVERMORE whos singer was Warrel Dane(R.I.P)
How does she sing like that all the time, how do you not hurt your voice... Amazing...
