I showed this to my grandma and she started laughing at the 60's one because she remembered the weird ass hair trend influenced by the president's wife.
+Tj Samson the "weird ass hair trend" I was talking about was the odd shape of the big hair because it's a pretty unique shape/style of big hair that isn't usually seen around the world
Oh sorry to see that you got heated Mr. greenhouse maybe you should stay out of the sun and in your own lane. I will say it one more time, THE ODD HEART-SHAPED HAIR is what I was talking about. I understand that big hair was a worldwide trend in the 60's. However, as you can see, the shape of the hair is unique out of all the hairstyles in this video. Why are you making such a big deal out of what I said. Gosh i cant share a funny story without some random people getting unnecessarily butthurt. Its hilarious how you took the time out of your day to call me 13 and give me an unneeded history lesson. Go on and disperse your heat on some plants or something mr. greenhouse. Bye. (ps I'm 17 get your facts straight).
Ugh this one is my favorite of all the *100 years of beauty* I’m not Filipino, but gosh I love their culture so much and they are just beautiful people honestly. This model has the most gorgeous smile I’ve ever seen in my life too btw i can watch her smile all day.
The womem in the philippines are very unique. Beautiful with or without makeup, have a sense of humor, fun to be with and are very caring when it comes to their loved ones. How do i know this? I've been to the Philippines before. Greetings from USA!
Gorgeous looks, much love from your Mexican cousins. Edit: it's kind of sad how so many Mexicans and Filipinos don't remember our struggle together. We battled together against USA for our livelihood.

Dessy Eliana Exactly, Hey we know your struggle that's something we share. But fast forward to now. Us Latinos and Filipinos have that in common and thus why we have that natural attraction or comradery towards each other... Plus with our Catholic upbringings...add that to our things in common. At least from my experience, my interactions with Filipinos/Filipinas have been nothing but extremely positive. Can't say that with other Asian ethnic groups though....Chinese, Japanese and Koreans can be very racist and whitewashed.
I know, right! It's mind blowing. There maybe a good percentage of people of the younger generation that imitates the western culture, but I'm happy we're one of the few Asian countries that still continue to practice our culture, especially with families and friends :) (and somehow it's awfully similar with Hispanics!)

Blissful Tears hahaha true! Have u seen people still drinking beer with friends during a flood and their feet are soaked with it...hahhaha... truly, only in the Philippines..lol 😊😀😁😂😄
Seeing her skin color slowly get lighter reminded me of how my Filipina mom would always scrub my skin raw when I was younger because my skin was so dark (darker than my mom's skin and my sister's skin despite the fact that I'm only half filipina while they are full) It sucked. She was convinced that I couldn't possibly be that dark, I was just dirty. But lo and behold, I am just a half-filipina with darker skin.
When other people think of typical Asian beauty, the first things that will come up to their mind are Chinese, Japanese and Korean features. Filipinos are not that of typical Asian look, we were descended from the Malays with a hint of Spanish or Hispanic blood and some are blended with Chinese.
exgeeinteractive An actual person who said descendants from Malay/Indonesia. I swear, everyone just automatically thinks Spanish, yes that's true but we're not 90% similar to them. Our language is similar to Bahasa tbh. Same sentence structure, similar words. Sorry I'm blabbing, just people automatically say Spanish when they completely forget the Malaysian and Indonesian part xDD
The go makeup look of most Filipinas are Baby powder Lip and cheek tint/ Matte nude or orange lipstick (optional) Eyebrow pencil/powder Mascara We don't use a lot of makeup unlike the west and some countries because it's too hot in the Philippines it'll just melt.
kinda. but it's usually just the powder, no foundations and such. we also use those bc it's really hot here and our faces get oily fast so baby powder helps and it's also cheap af
Potato I'm Filipina too and I've been called exotic and way too fetishized and romanticized by my white adopted family. I'm glad I don't interact with them anymore.
Geography Now They were called Pintados (Painted Peole) common in central Philippines (Visayas) and beauty was based on your body tattoos, they wore so much tattoos it looked like they had lacey black bodysuits. Women went topless, too, btw and enjoyed a freer social standing compared to other cultures whose women were lower than men's.
Geography Now This video is actually inaccurate. By the 1910s we were already under American rule (after Spanish rule in 1898). The Pintados (that "look" you pointed out) was before the Spanish came to the Philippines, which was in the 1500s. The last visual records of the Pintados was in 1590, because the Spanish has converted a lot of Filipinos into Roman Catholics/Christians. We still have diverse indigenous groups up to now of course. Sadly this video does not depict the 1910s Filipina beauty in an accurate way. :(
Geography Now on females, more tattoos, the more your social standings you have... on males, every time they killed enemy tribe, they added more tattoos in their body... women are nearly equal in the balangay, except they are not allowed to be trained as a warrior... punishment will be beheading or exile...
Geography Now It was common during pre-colonial Philippines. But Filipino beauty trend during the 1910s was already heavily influenced by Hispanic culture so most likely majority of Filipinas would have had sported a more Western look. Only those non-Hispanicized minority tribes living in the mountains and other islands still probably maintained that indigenous style. By the way, I love your videos. Guess I'll have to wait a year or two for the Philippine video to come out lol. All the best!
Love from India🇮🇳 to Philippines🇵🇭. I have many Filipino friends (gaming) they're all so nice, I love exploring about different cultures and countries, this vid was awesome!
I'm mestiza and when I go to Philippines it makes me sad that people are even intimidated to talk to me because they think with their brown skin they're somehow beneath me. Let Filipinos be brown!!!! Edit: I didnt see how many comments are on this thread. I made this comment a long time ago and I didn't really know the origin of the word mestiza but my mother and other Filipino friends and relatives have called me that word my whole life. I dont really like to use it anymore because I have learned about the influence of Spanish colonialism on the Philippines. If I had made this comment today I would have just said mixed Canadian-Filipino. Also I DIDNT mean this as a backhanded compliment I may have just worded it poorly. You don't HAVE to be any colour i just think that the lengths that some darker Filipinos go to lighten their skin is sad and unnecessary.
Filipinos have natural tanned skin.. they don't call themeselves as black, brown or white they call themselves kayumanggi so are Filipinas. Some people wonder why most Filipinas don't wear makeup.. well the reason behind it is because the people in the Philippines got so used to seeing each other's bare faces that they couldn't help but laugh and just stare at the person who's wearing makeup even if it's hella heavy or just basically light makeup. The Pinays have their own beauty that appeals to different kinds of countries, their natural looks can be an international heart throb like.. LOOK AT THEM!! **TO ALL FOREIGNERS THAT WANT TO VISIT PHILIPPINES THAT WEARS MAKEUP.. I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT WEAR MAKE UP IN THE PHILIPPINES BECAUSE IT WON'T LAST VERY LONG, PHILIPPINES IS A HOT HOT HOT COUNTRY!!**
I love my Filipino brothers and Filipina sisters. I’m an Indian working in Britain in a hospital and you guys are the MOST hard working, beautiful spirited people I’ve ever met. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being the amazing, kind people that you are! We love you SO MUCH!! ❤️❤️❤️from an Indian sister!!❤️❤️❤️
Jayron Van L Arizo haha. read a history book. Tribal culture was already the minority by the 1910s. The reason they chose the indigenous look for this decade was to highlight the beginning of American Occupation. The whole "Philippines need civilizing," "White Man Burden," and human zoos set up in the St. Louis Expo to justify US's acts of colonization.
Other countries in the 80s: "LETS GO WILD!" Philippines in the 80s: "Let's counter that global nonsense with the most beautiful hairstyle in the entire century!" :-O
@@lalaloo3877 I know right! It clearly referenced Sharon Cuneta but the style was very early 80s (1983). It didn't even bother to give volume lol. The quintessential 80s hair in the Philippines is the shoulder length mullet with teased spike bangs sprayed with Aquanet. 😜
1910s - Fascination of American colonizers to the Indigenous people that Spanish government didn't bother to christianize. 1920s - Fernando Amorsolo's depiction of rural life. 1930s - Women in annual Beauty Pageants during the Commonwealth Era. 1940s - Civilians formed Guerilla forces to fight Japanese in WWII. 1950s - Golden Age of Philippine Cinema 1960s - Imelda Marcos as a fashion icon in the 60s. 1970s - Disco and Hippie influenced culture. 1980s - Teen Celebrities' hairstyle. 1990s - Zigzag middle parting 2000s - Party girls 2010s - Independent women of the decade
+The Happy Weird Boy 1930's was seriously on point most especially when she donned the headpiece. Reminiscent of the Manila Carnival. I'm nowhere near convinced with 1910's. I doubt the general standard of beauty among majority lowland Christian women at that time was based on American fetishism of non-Christianized highland women.
pansitkantonify it was on American point of view not Filipino's. It reallly wasn't us during the 1910s. Racism by Americans to us during that decade was clearly obvious.
When you put it that way, it does lessen my nitpicky feeling towards the 1910, if it really did come from an American point of view. I do remember our history teacher telling us about how they once exhibited the Filipinos in their country as such (uncivilized, dressed in minimal clothing, doing rituals and dances, etc. even though the Filipinos just got in the act as well and were happy with the experience). Thank you for pointing that out.
+The Happy Weird Boy Let me supplement you on that one: 1910s-American Propaganda depicting exoticized "primitive" indigenous people to defend their move on colonizing the Philippines. 1920s-Fernando Amorsolo's depiction of ideal Filipino culture and Identity, and the ideal Filipina women(no mestiza, pure asian). They weren't just random rural life paintings. 1950s-Barbara Perez, the "local Audrey Hepburn" of the Golden Age of Philippine Cinema 1970s-Karilagan Models. They were a big deal during the 70s in the local fashion industry. 2000s-Kpop influenced much of Asia. Casualties included our country. 2010s-Movement towards favoring brown skin(the supposed natural Filipino skin) that is said to be slowly starting in this decade.
One thing I noticed is that we ALWAYS come back to the red lipstick hahaha. It's kind of a staple in a pinay's makeup bag. And the 1960's gave me an Imelda vibe. Is she the one who started that big hair trend?
I LOVE THE 1920's LOOK!!! It looks sooo simple and It portrays Filipinos as hardworking people!!! That's why I Love Buwan Ng Wika!!! It gives you the opportunity to wear the National Costume without looking weird. I also Love the 1940's (you know women in war) and 1980's look.
filipinos gets so proud and excited when there are videos related about Philippines or filipinos. I think were just happy bc we are being remembered or recognized???
Holy crap that 1990s zigzag hair parting is so accurate. Everyone in school were into that. Mum used to fix my hair like that. I'm gonna learn how to do it for +10 swag 😂
beginning without the makeup? she was actually bombarded with tanned make up to imitate the typical tanned skin of malay people. she's naturally light skinned.
sadly, in other countries when they heard the word asian they would thought abt singkits like Koreans Chinese and Japanese. Filipina beauty is underrated :< edit: woah, I cant believe this reach 200 likes HAHAH hey pinoy din po ako nga ate at kuyaaa. 🥰
I hate that when people say asian are Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Cuz Filipino, and Thai, Malaysian, Indian, Middle Eastern, and more...are Asian. Even though I am Chinese, but I just don't like the way it's.
***** I'm afraid looking at the brighter side of things won't solve any issue. You need to look at both sides. Now I'm not saying that people who ARE fairer and have sharp noses are unattractive, but what I'm trying to say is that the Philippines' media and society's ideal beauty is someone who looks Western. And I have a problem with that because we are not Westerners, we are Filipinos.
All I know is that the whole Philippines needs to LEARN a THING or TWO from the fighting pride of the Philippines Pacquiao that man is so humble! & Fights for the whole country! Yet look at how awful some Filipinos act! Trying to look western .__. What's so good about western?!? Dammits Asia women have the worlds best BEAUTY just look at yourself how Beautiful u look in ur photo ^.^ true Pinay Mubuhay
ChoppedNScrew956dude Too bad Pacquiao got his ass whooped by Mayweather then tried to blame it on his shoulder injury, so much for being humble. He's just like all filipinos shouting Proud to be Pnoy and acts like a sore loser when they're defeated.
I am a Filipino from pangasinan in the Philippines and I swear if I see one more comment saying she looks Chinese I am going to flip a table. While a lot of Filipinos don't look like her many do. As we all know if you look to Brazil there are differences in ALL the people I a. Culture. For me and my Filipino family there are many of us who are light skin and some who are dark skin. When these people say she looks Chinese they don't realize they're generalizing and subtly saying oh all Asians look the same. It's pissing me off -_- .. There are many differences between races! You all should know This.. Many Many Many Filipinos are light skin. I'm going to go eat some pansit noodles now lol.
+John Graves lool i hate when people ask me if im chinese, and then japanese, and then korean, and then they run out of asian countries to generalize me by. like thats literally all they know about the entire continent of asia.
I'm from Pangasinan as well & I've been asked if I was Chinese or Japanese. I always chalked it up as they just can't differentiate us because of lack of knowledge, not because they're racist. Some people have never been outside their own cities much alone country, so they aren't aware of the individual looks (eyes, nose, hair texture, etc) each Asian country has. I have been fair skin since birth, and became even more so when I moved to the US, which throws some people off too, they think most Filipinos are brown skin. I wish I could tan, must've been all those times my Lola put rubbing alcohol (ward off mosquitoes I guess) after baths that killed all my pigmentation lol

+John Graves yes and what's funny is that MOST OF the people who say that she doesn't look like a Filipino a)haven't been around many Filipinos b) don't even live in the Philippines .
+John Graves Actually, she DOES look Chinese. I am willing to bet anything that she has some (or a lot) of Chinese blood in her. There is nothing wrong with that, because many Filipinos are mixed-race, which means that you can look like practically anyone on the planet and still be Filipino. Isn't that why the Philippines is so amazing in the first place?
*it's because, Our Country is hella Hot😂* *BTS even said that; from all the countries they have gone, Philippines is the Most Hot* *but The Truth is, every Member of BTS is 100000X Hotter than our Country😏*

The go makeup look of most Filipinas are
Baby powder
Lip and cheek tint/ Matte nude or orange lipstick (optional)
Eyebrow pencil/powder
Mascara
We don't use a lot of makeup unlike the west and some countries because it's too hot in the Philippines it'll just melt.
How does the baby powder stay on and is it used like setting powder? I'm confused
MOOD. TRUTH.
kinda. but it's usually just the powder, no foundations and such. we also use those bc it's really hot here and our faces get oily fast so baby powder helps and it's also cheap af

Love that 2010 rocks a carefree look. It only means Filipinas are freer, more confident and fearless!
Kara Alvarez I don't know what you mean by carefree she is wearing about the same amount of makeup as many other 2010s look
Teenage Alien I think she means the hairstyle, the other hairstyles takes a long time to do but the 2010s style is just a let down you hair look

Whoa! I'm actually kind of really intrigued by the 1910s look. What's the story behind that?
Geography Now They were called Pintados (Painted Peole) common in central Philippines (Visayas) and beauty was based on your body tattoos, they wore so much tattoos it looked like they had lacey black bodysuits. Women went topless, too, btw and enjoyed a freer social standing compared to other cultures whose women were lower than men's.
Geography Now that look was before Spain conquered the Philippines. ~1500 or 1600 not 1910 lol.

Not chinese.. But hispanic.. Maybe ur talking about chinoy.. Migrant chinese..
Mestiza means pilipino/hispanic..

1910s tribal look when majority of women were still in their tribes. not yet influenced by city life
Jayron Van L Arizo haha. read a history book.
Google Whang-Od. She is the real deal. Check out her tattoos.
Other countries in the 80s: "LETS GO WILD!"
Philippines in the 80s: "Let's counter that global nonsense with the most beautiful hairstyle in the entire century!" :-O
Not really, try looking at filipino yearbooks from 1988 and 1989
The main hairstyles in 80's in PH is not as smooth hair as in the video
@@lalaloo3877 I know right! It clearly referenced Sharon Cuneta but the style was very early 80s (1983). It didn't even bother to give volume lol.

sadly they forgot the no.1 standard of Filipino beauty
as apparent with recent and present media:
having white skin
+The Happy Weird Boy Let me supplement you on that one:
1910s-American Propaganda depicting exoticized "primitive" indigenous people to defend their move on colonizing the Philippines.
1920s-Fernando Amorsolo's depiction of ideal Filipino culture and Identity, and the ideal Filipina women(no mestiza, pure asian). They weren't just random rural life paintings.
1950s-Barbara Perez, the "local Audrey Hepburn" of the Golden Age of Philippine Cinema
1970s-Karilagan Models.
Yep, same. When I saw the 60s the first thing that came into my mind was Imelda Marcos.
Lhourd Fernando Red lipstick and the classic-Hollywood look is very "in" for the 2010s in most places.
Lhourd Fernando It's passed down from Grandmother to the kiddos. I wear red lipstick a lot and so does most of my family members. :P
Lhourd Fernando no, it is a copy of jackelyn's kennedy do. imelda jsut followed the trend as many other filipinas at that time.

Too bad right now in the Philippines, in order to be "beautiful" you must have fair skin and sharp nose. Basically dont look like a Filipino.
Ouch. That hit me so hard. 😂😂😂
