Been painting acrilic now 2 years ....all my acrilic paintings are unfinished .... switching to oils on top of the acrylic sounds right .... keeping going ...thanks for the demo ....
@@skysky9115 That’s cool. I paint oil over acrylic all the time. You just can’t paint acrylic over oil. It will crack when dry.
The best painters have messy pallets! 🤘🏼🎨 thank you for the tips!
@@AuristelaFerrer Haha! Thank you!
@@AuristelaFerrer Your comment is so good, it should be on a T-shirt.
@@PaintGoodwithChad it would be a very cool t-shirt!! 🤩
This is the first time I saw your vídeos (and i saw some other things too 🤔 iykyk) I felt the need to share same good vibes and support to a fellow artists 🙏🏼🪄
Very helpful ❤

Thank u very much
Thanks so much this is so helpful right now ❤❤
That’s good news. Thank you so much!😊
Nice job Chad! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I saw on a different comment about this video how you used an underpainting in tones of red. How did you determine that should be the color you used ? Thanks for answering if you can.
Hello! I use red because I wanted this painting to have a warm tone. The red shows through a little. It also contrasts with the blues and greens. This way, I know what’s underpainting and what the top layer is and I don’t miss a spot.
@@PaintGoodwithChad Thank you so much for explaining that to me. It does really help a lot. 👍
Brilliant, really helpful. Thanks for posting. Xoxo
You are so welcome!
Really like your videos…great stuff! Also like your recommendations for brushes. What oil paint do you recommend? Also, what fan brushes? Thanks for all you do.
Thank you Charles! I use Windsor and Newton level 2 oil paint. My fan brushes are all different sizes and material. I suggest buying a few different kinds and trying them out. Synthetic and natural both work a little differently. It’s a personal choice. Usually they are labeled as oil acrylic or water color brushes. I mostly use the brush that’s designed for the paint medium I use. However, a water color or acrylic brush can be used with oil paints. They are a little softer and apply the paint differently. I hope that helps.
Thank you!!!
Thank you too!
did you paint your animal before or after the grass? thank you that was a great demo
I painted the grass first and the animal last. It’s easier to paint the background before the foreground. However, I painted the animal and the background together, in monochromatic tones of red, as the first layer. (Under painting) I let that layer dry and then I start adding colors.
@@PaintGoodwithChad thank you very much for the quick reply ! You're awesome
Though this is a really informative video, have you made a video showing how to paint the field of grass from the beginning ? I realize that could be a bit "monotonous," 😉 but, some of us need that extra bit of instruction. Either way, thank you for sharing this video with us. It IS really helpful. BTW, I use acrylics, so, do you have any tips for painting grasd with that kind of laint? Thanks bunches. 👍🙂
Thanks for being nice. I’ve had a lot of rude comments lately. To answer your question. I spontaneously decided to make a video while I was in the middle of working on this painting. It wasn’t planned. That’s why it started in the middle of the process. I will do a short that shows the beginning, next time I paint grass. The reason my videos are not very scripted is because I am an artist before I am a UA-camr. I don’t plan these things. I appreciate your comments. Thanks.
BTW, The process is the same with acrylics. Just use water instead of paint thinner. The paint should be runny when using the liner brush.
@@PaintGoodwithChad So THAT'S the trick - thinned out paint. TYSM for your help. 👍😉
And, I'd rather your videos be "unscripted," myself. NP with that to me. 😉👍
@@PaintGoodwithChad Just saw how the words were spelled grasd and laint in my message above. Sorry, but I don't know HOW those words were misspelled. 🤔😉👍
What a Chad, thank you 👽🦑🦆

How do artists work with a messy palette
The same way we work with a clean one.
@@PaintGoodwithChad If I see a clean palette, I know I haven’t done much. 😅 I just finished a big field of grasses (ranch scene). Wish I’d seen your video first. I would have done a few bits differently. I’m strictly acrylic, BTW.
Appreciate you. Great attitude in your
non-scripted presentation. Not a peacock in sight!😮💨😁
@@ToniC3972 Haha! Good point.
Oh! What a dirty palette ! Couldn't it be cleaned! 😀
Ha ha! Your not the first to say that. It would be hard to clean it. I might have to use a sander. Buying a new one is probably easier. It might be time to do that. Thanks for your comment!
@@PaintGoodwithChadHope you didn't feel offended! I was thinking how one could mix colors when there is another color beneath it ! That's all! 😄
@@pmnirmal6052 There is no reason to be offended. I appreciate your comment. Thank you!
Good lord Chad.
Thank you ....good art !
Where's Waldo?

Hello!
Hello!
Bloody music
@@JimmyMarch You’re absolutely right. I plan on loosing the music in future videos. Thanks for watching though.
Dude. Your pallet... omg. Take some time and work on that, you are probably loosing a quarter of the paint your squirt out into the pitts and crevasses of your pallet surface!
@@chrisgriffith1573 The pallet in the video has since been retired. I buy a new one about once a year. It’s hard for me to keep them clean. Recently, I tried disposable pallet paper. I don’t like it. Then I tried glass and I broke it. Not cool either. Believe me. I’m working on it. It’s definitely an issue.
@@PaintGoodwithChad 1/4" tempered glass, ALWAYS put it on a flat hard table or surface, so it won't give under your stabbings... lol. I have always used tempered glass and never had an issue.
@@chrisgriffith1573 That’s nice.
The algorithm has presented me with all kinds of videos about people painting oils over acrylics. Funny- its a bad idea! But here is the real kicker- the same people are commenting over and over about how great this is and seeing the same vein of videos due to the algorithm! So they are all thinking this is a great idea- when in fact, it is a very bad practice for oils!
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know it was a bad idea. Have you ever painted oils over acrylics? What was the result that led you to this conclusion?
@@PaintGoodwithChad Have I ever... ? LOL- I was an illustrator for over 15 years. Start using acrylics, use oils, spray using Krylon Crystol clear, then re-apply oils, repeat as many times as you need... I have mixed media like that going back 35 years! Most of them crack within ten years, and stabilized at around 20... but they will degrade further in the future. My fine art pieces started off using gesso with acrylic underpainting, then oils over top- soon after they cured, the oil was too brittle to hold over the acrylic- a simple bump from the back of the canvas could crack the oils, and carrying a large canvas into an exhibition I did just this when my knuckles bent the canvas from the back, and the oil just literally fell off the acrylic. I immediately switched into panels and stopped using acrylics of any kind under oils. Oils need a rigid dimensionally stabile surface with an absorbent tooth, this is why gesso of the Masters was chalk and plaster (gypsum) based. My website is www.cwgriffith.com if you want to see some examples of both... there are two mixed media pieces there- (the ones with the cracking)
@ Thanks for sharing your experience.
Clean that pallet before you demonstrate 👎👎👎👎👎👎
I am unable to clean my pallet. It’s stained from all the paintings I’ve used it for. The only solution is to buy a new pallet every time I make a video. I’m not doing that. BTW, You don’t have to be rude and give me 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Big deal I have ben painting grass like that for over fifty years....
@@edwardtranfaglia8397 Good for you.
@edwardtranfaglia8397 what is the point of your comment? This is super helpful content for so many people. Keep your negativity to yourself jeez 🙄 great video Chad!
And now it's time to replace the palette LOL
Lol! You noticed? I totally agree! It’s driving me crazy. I think I’m going to try a glass pallet next.
