I used to see Dickie at least 3 nights a week in El Porto , Manhattan Beach at Orville & Wilbur's ...Dickie came in and enjoyed the hospitality circa 1972
In my opinion the Smothers Brothers are among the very greatest comedians ever (and pretty good musicians too). I still recall seeing their show on television as a kid... Thanks for posting this great clip.
This was great! these were the funniest guys in America 1965!! I couldn't wait to see them come on every week!!! LOL! This is still the kind of stuff that makes me laugh!!! Hats off to you Tommy and Dickie Smothers!!! WE LOVE YOU !
Tommy is a great guitarist as well as a great comedian. My mom and dad loved and watched these guys and thru them I learned to love them too. And I am a late 60’s early 70’s rock kind of person. Their talent ignores time.
These guys are true American Heroes and I still feel that way. God Bless these brothers! My dad had all of their albums & I still love that Puma's were 'Frothing in their mouths in deep Cravices!!' Fantastic stuff!
God bless the Smother's brothers, I'm going to see them in August at Niagara Fall's casino, can't wait. Tommy rules, not many comedians like this that are funny and don't swear!
I saw them in person a couple years ago, and they are coming back to my town next year. Hopefully I can see them again. One of the best Xmas presents I ever got was the (almost) complete set of Smos Bros records my mom gave me a few years ago. She searched in many vintage shops and flea markets to find a set for me and one for my sis. We grew up listening to them, and they bring back lots of memories!
I was sitting at the bar in a small restaurant in Glen Ellen, CA and this guy sat down next to me and asked how the martinis were. It was Tommy. One hour of drinking martinis and stories. I was in 7th heaven. Just as funny and sweet as you would hope!!!
I certainly DO remember Tom & Dick's situation comedy, 'horstnr'- it premiered a few months after this appearance, in September 1965, on CBS- Dick was a rising young publishing company executive, and Tom his bumbling "guardian angel" brother {whose contact in Heaven was "Ralph", via a phone receiver with wings on it}. It only lasted ONE season, and for a good reason....
I love these guys for many, many reasons, but most of all because my parents and I can listen together and laugh equally as hard:) The bros help bridge that generation gap:) There are pumas down there!!
Liner notes from the "Mom Always Liked You Best" LP: "Last February I was lucky enough to have on my television show two of the zaniest and most refreshingly funny guys I've ever known. When the first bounced onstage that night in their bright red blazers--shoebutton eyes shining and faces freshly scrubbed--I was sure they had mistaken the studio for an eighth grade dancing class." ---Jack Benny
Wow! I am 53 and I can only faintly remember a time when network censors wemt thumbs down on uttering the word "hell". Times certainly have changed...
Their mouths didn't match because the syncronization is off after so many years of this video surviving. I'm really amazed there is as much of it viewable as there is. Old video tape decomposes (note all the "scrambles" during the playing). Someone must have had this in proper storage for a long time. Lucky for us!
I remember them doing this skit a few years later and Tommy yelled, 'I don't have to take it!' Dick asked, 'Why?' Tommy paused and said, 'Cuz' I'm an American...' Very funny!! Love this skit.
The Best Brothers Smothers bit ever! I've remembered every word of this version for (blush!) almost 40 years. But let me be the next to point out: There are LOTS oi pumas in America. Pumas (a/k/a mountain lions or cougars) are FROM America. Whether they live in cravasses, is another matter.
Actually, to this day, very few comics have sex on stage, though in my personal experience at home, it does seem to make my wife laugh more effectively than my jokes. Anyway, the Smothers Brothers were well-known for their often very-blue double entendres. That they played the parts of well-scrubbed Mama's boys just made it that much funnier. ("A puma in the crevice!!!") An eternal principle of comedy is: clean is in the imagination of the beholder.
Exactly. You know who was sitting in John & Yoko's room during their bed-in in Montreal? Yeah. Tommy Smothers. He was hangin with the cool kids. Not the innocent naive ones.
Tommy is such a genius his timing and clever antics and it must have been hard for dick to play the straight man to lead into Tommy's crazy character . We focus on their comedy, but there harmonies were 1st class..
Norm Macdonald: "Don't you think that Tommy Smothers was kind of underappreciated in comedy teams?" Bob Einstein (Super Dave Osborne): "Beyond belief." (2013)
I can't help it... after 45 years, these guys STILL crack me up!
I used to see Dickie at least 3 nights a week in El Porto , Manhattan Beach at Orville & Wilbur's ...Dickie came in and enjoyed the hospitality circa 1972

I have always loved these guy's for years.................love them love them no doubt about it.....

"look at those vicious beasts in that crevice! they look like pumas!...but they werent." hahahaha these guys never get old!
I love them! They are hilarious!! I grew up listening to stuff like this and I still love them....

I don't care what anyone says: the Smothers Brothers are better than any other folk duo.
These guys are true American Heroes and I still feel that way. God Bless these brothers! My dad had all of their albums & I still love that Puma's were 'Frothing in their mouths in deep Cravices!!' Fantastic stuff!
They were SOOO GREAT!!!!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What a great routine by Tom and Dick! Those two could REALLY entertain, a sorry commodity missing in this day and age. Thanks for posting.
This never ever gets old and people who ignore it cos it's black and white are fools.
I could watch them every day. They are AWESOME!
Take it, Tom!
No.
-grin- Love it. Possibly my favorite Smothers Brothers routine. Thanks for posting this!
the Smothers Brothers are the best comidian in the world.........
There have never been a comedy group that could compare with Tommy Dickie Smothers. They were unique in every way.
I saw this on the Jack Benny Show, that is where this exact clip comes from. These guys were awesome.
Still love these guys. Even though I've heard some of these bits probably 50 times, it's still funny. Great musicians, too. Thanks, guys.
God bless the Smother's brothers, I'm going to see them in August at Niagara Fall's casino, can't wait. Tommy rules, not many comedians like this that are funny and don't swear!

"the folksingers' guidebook...."
That one just never gets old.
Saw them in vegas about 6 years ago. They are still hilarious. Genius will always come through.
I remember watching a Jack Benny show with the Smothers Brothers, and they Jack laughing so hard. It was great.
still love watching them and laughing. Thanks
i love these guys. been listening for years!
I saw them in Peekskill last year. And I could not agree more.
First time I heard this story I died laughing. I still talk about foaming rocks and foaming ropes
We saw the Smothers Brothers in Rhodesia! Gosh they were wonderful but we still lost the war!!
Wonderful! These guys were and are geniuses! And it's so good and kewl to see them way back in their youths. : D
They were a great act.
Tom and Tom, The Brothers Brothers on In Living Color!!!
Great clip.... Going to be 56 in 2 days and I remember them like yesterday.....Dang shows what a life I have lived.....LOL....great.
Absolutely! Not to mention that they were the first "politically incorrect", way ahead of its time.
Great comedy - thanks a million...
My aunt told me she used to exercise to this song. I have never laughed so hard in my life.

TAKE IT! one of my favorites!!
I never thought comedy from that era would translate so well to this day and age.
Love it! I've been saying "pumas in the crevasses" for years. Now my kids get to see where I got that! Thanks for posting!
Goldie Hawn was a female version of Tommy. loved 'em both
I love these guys for many, many reasons, but most of all because my parents and I can listen together and laugh equally as hard:) The bros help bridge that generation gap:) There are pumas down there!!
In the crevasses.
+Meredith Power -> In the Cravasas.
love it....would love to see Hermit was a Lobster and Sally was a Crab
The inaccuracies of the closed caption text adds a new level of humor to their song.
One of my favorites!

These guys are always a blast. Love the joke about the bicycle.

I actually remember watching this live on TV when I was a kid. The Puma thing broke me up then and still does.
"Brother Tom went out to sea, without his water wings-And now he's an angel, and tries to do amazing things"
Funny I would love to find the old albums.
This is still funny even after having heard it a hundred times. If you've never heard it before, I envy your first time.
Love it. Too funny.
"take it tom!" "no" xD
I remember them doing this skit a few years later and Tommy yelled, 'I don't have to take it!' Dick asked, 'Why?' Tommy paused and said, 'Cuz' I'm an American...' Very funny!! Love this skit.
I think this is from the Jack Benny show.... great fun...good clean fun....Thanks for sharing it!
Great memories. Classic stuff !
I think Tom & Dick might be amused at the idea of being held up as avatars of "safe" comedy. ("Hey, we got away with it! Ha!")
I'm so glad you posted this! Everytime I see a piece of clothing with Puma on it I think of "pumas in the crevasses! " it was great seeing it again!
I used to have these "albums"...and I already paid for them.

But let me be the next to point out: There are LOTS oi pumas in America. Pumas (a/k/a mountain lions or cougars) are FROM America. Whether they live in cravasses, is another matter.
Miss you, Mom

OMG, thats still funny. No matter how many times I see it.

An eternal principle of comedy is: clean is in the imagination of the beholder.
This is from Jack Benny's last weekly TV show [April 16, 1965].
"there's no pumas in those cravesses!" xD
No matter how many times you hear this its just as funny.
Exactly. You know who was sitting in John & Yoko's room during their bed-in in Montreal? Yeah. Tommy Smothers. He was hangin with the cool kids. Not the innocent naive ones.
I saw them first on the Dick Cavett show, perfect chemistry.
This is from Jack Benny's last filmed episode (and the last of his weekly series), originally telecast on April 16, 1965.
that end credit audio was classic. naked bacon
Saw this on the Jack Benny program last night. :)
Tommy is such a genius his timing and clever antics and it must have been hard for dick to play the straight man to lead into Tommy's crazy character . We focus on their comedy, but there harmonies were 1st class..

Nice video. BTW hi gamefaqs and Silent Hill board.
Still cracks me up, thanks!
And here all this time I thought this was from Ed Sullivan! Jack Benny? Whoa! Doubting that.
Never knew about these guys until the Simpsons.
Great stuff.
I wish somebody would post the entire episode. It's hilarious.
I'm gonna get to see them live in about a month at the strawberry festival in FL, can't wait. :D
Take it Tom lol! Love these guys
@showersinger547 Right! Even just on record they are great!

Yep, it's from the final episode of Jack Benny's regular show. I've got it on DVD.

Thanks for putting this up!
"Take It" .... And to believe they were censored!! Were they ...THE GOOD OLE DAYS? .... LOL
Im 16. I watched this in history today. God damn does this hold up.
Now that you mention it, those are the curtains from the Jack Benny Show.
....vicious pumas in them crevasses......
Norm Macdonald: "Don't you think that Tommy Smothers was kind of underappreciated in comedy teams?"
Bob Einstein (Super Dave Osborne): "Beyond belief." (2013)
Tommy Smothers was brilliant, wasn't he?! Without Tommy there really wasn't an act, just another folk singer.
