Well said Grandma! When I became a young mother my mother informed me that she was not going to be a built in babysitter. I respected that and my husband and I only took the kids to her home upon invitation. And she came and visited on her terms. She raised her children and loved us, but her days of being a “Mother” were over, it was her time to be Grandma, nothing more nothing less.

I had to stop my wife's sister from turning our house into her personal daycare. She tried to guilt my wife with the whole "family is supposed to help each other" bit and I told her that, how I was raised, you don't use and abuse your family.
Back in the late 60's and early 70's, we called dropping off my sister's kids a drive-by. They roll up, and the kids would come out of the car as if they were going to an amusement park. We were never asked or giving directions as to what time they would return. It hasn't changed that much. It may be worse.

I raised my own kids alone for 13 years. They listen, they know how to stay around me and not wonder around in public and cause problems. And I'm thinking now I'm so glad I did it. Because now they treat me with great respect and my 8 year old son makes me coffee and delivers it when I'm still sleeping. Lol. My 13 year old makes dinner when I'm busy with my chores. My 10 year old knows all in between the oldest and youngest. I did right with all of them.

Maybe you shouldn't of been out partying while they were little. Or working 2-3 jobs and leaving them behind. I love my small family. We all babysit each other's kids and help with house projects. I grew up watching my nieces and now my mom and nieces watch my daughter. We help each other garden and fix up each other's houses and share our crop. We all have strengths and weaknesses and take care of each other. ❤️ my dads helping me fix my door and stairs this summer, and I'm helping him paint their house. My mom had a bad back, so I help with chores where she has to bend, and she watches my daughter. My dad has a truck and picks up large items for me, but I work in the city and pick up small stuff for him and so on.

Christmas was a total bust, I was trying to cook Christmas dinner the night before for 12 people and my daughter took off and left her 1-year-old and 4 year old for 5 hours.. then the next day she wanted me to babysit (AFTER she opened the $400 worth of gifts I bought for her and her kids!!) when I had to continue cooking cuz I didn't get it done the night before as planned.. she acted like I was doing something wrong by saying I can't watch the kids and finish this meal at the same time..

Amen! As a Nana of two girls, I 100% agree with this Grandma. I have them most weekends because I want them and to give my daughter a break. But she does not automatically think she can just count on me anytime. She has more respect for me. When they were babies it was a different story. I took them once in a while because it was not my job to change diapers and comfort crying babies. That's momma's job. Good for you Grandma. You tell em!
While I totally agree with this grandma, I just wanna speak on behalf of all kids who have to take care of their parents because they didn't properly financially plan for their retirement. We have to support them financially while the money could have gone to day care! I have a mother and a mother in law that needs to be supported for the ten years I am married. I totally agree that grandparents aren't supposed to take care of grankids but theyy should at least give a helping hand as we have to take care of them too.. if they weren't in need I could do something else with that money.

So teen moms can be responsible for their own, yes they are young but if you're old enough to have sex then you're old enough to take care of YOUR baby.
