All the questions you had while watching this, we had the same ones. With it being set decades after the original trilogy finished, there was so much missing story. I really wished they had put a short explanation before the opening scrawl, like Peter Jackson did for Fellowship of the Ring, just to give us the high points of the intervening years. And yes, there were lots of questions about how Rey could be so good at everything. She took apart ships for scrap for a living, so it makes sense that she knows how they work, and can fix the Falcon. Being able to pilot and pick up how to use the Force so quickly seemed a bit much to me. They could have easily let Poe survive the crash, meet up with BB8 with Finn, and get off the planet in the Falcon. It would kind of cement the idea that the three of them can handle anything, then find out Rey is Force sensitive and bring in Leia to train her. And I would have made Finn an actual badass, not a janitor making it up as he was going along. I'd also make it so Han, Luke and Leia have a scene together somewhere in the trilogy, because it was a waste to not have them together. Can't do it with Han dead.
The reason I have so much interest in Ahsoka Seasons 2-? and Mando and Thrawn is because it will fill in the gaps of history/story we don't know about between those shows/films until The Force Awakens. I've gotta imagine Hera and Chopper and Jacen are on another planet, doing something else to help the resistance during The Force Awakens. I do wonder if we'll ever get a young child/teen Ben cameo in Mando, Ahsoka, or another show. Imagine a scene with Jacen and Ben playing together. Would be SO weird!
This is roughly 25 years after the finale of Ahsoka. A LOT of new story still needs to be told between these eras. However, there are story beats from the Legends continuity that are likely being borrowed from. In that case, we can make certain assumptions about who Snoke is, where he comes from, and how the First Order in general ties into things like Project Necromancer and Thrawn. But in terms of exactly how that will be fleshed out in the canon version of events, we still have to wait and see. I'm looking forward to it, though. The New Republic era is my fsiera from Star Wars lore. ☺️
So at this point in time, the new republic is around and they bounce the capital around. At this time, it is on Hosnian Prime. You actually have briefly met the Hosnian senator, Senator Xiono in Ahsoka. He was the one who disbelieved the threat of thrawn. The republic felt since it ‘won’ the war, it could begin to scrap the navy. Leia was ousted as a senator when her relation to vader was revealed and she was the voice to prepare for another war The First Order is made from the loyalists of the Empire but enhanced with upgraded tech (again the seeds planted in Ahsoka). Jakku officially was officially where the Civil War ended. Most of the empire ran to become the first order. Some stayed to help destroy the republic from within (mando and Ahsoka). The Republic is showing cracks. Leia, seeing this and knowing the First Order was out there has formed the Resistance, a similar entity to the rebellion but not as well funded so they dont have as good ships to use.
My god you look like a blast from the past 80s style. You should really get a Lamborghini countach and try to run away from the police. Thanks for reacting!
At the point you said Snoke looks like Voldemort, for one instant I though you're talk about Kylo Ren and I though "Well, the nose is quite different!" 😂
Well I’m glad you are back Tera, your needs are first. I was also numb when they killed off Han Solo, the Star Destroyer & the AT-AT you see in Jakku was a past Important battle between The Galactic Empire and the Victorious The New Republic. Around this time we don’t know what happened to Ahsoka, Thrawn, The Mandalorian, Grogu etc.
Thanks, Tara! ✨ I think you're gonna love plenty about the sequels, as I have. 🔸 Since you wondered, it begins roughly 30 years after RETURN OF THE JEDI.
Say what you will about the sequel trilogy as a whole, but I think we can all agree that the music is consistently great. I’ve grown particularly fond of Rey’s theme, very unique among the other Star Wars themes but that’s kinda what I love about it.
One thing about the popularity of the sequels... They tend to be more popular with newer audiences then they are with older fanatics, particularly the ones that remember things like Han shooting first, having to wait until ROTJ to meet Jabba, or Vader remaining silent as he turned back to the light and so much more... People who know all about Star Wars lore/legends that do not appreciate what what Disney has done to "Their" franchise... Side note... The changes I mentioned above were NOT done by Disney, but WAS, in fact, the work of George Lucas himself...
@@chefkochkawasaki4127 I'm not so sure about that, most OT fans I know came around to the PT, but HATE the ST... There are exceptions to every rule though...
@@js3599 well if you want my take, I was born in 2004 but grew up with the OT. I love the OT and 2/3 of the ST. But regarding the Prequels I only enjoy TCW and Ep. 3. So I guess it depends with what you grow up mostly
@@chefkochkawasaki4127 When I was born, the OT was still ORIGINAL.. George Lucas had not altered them yet... Many younger people have no idea what the original theatrical were actually different from what they see now... The Star Wars WE fell in love with is NOT the same... Also, for the record, my opinions on Star Wars movies and shows are not influenced on whether or not it was made by George Lucas or the mouse... I always try to go on a case by case situation, based on quality of what I see... but generally, I prefer original versions, specifically, the first version I see, over any remakes, rewrites, or "Improvements" put out later...
Imagine how conflicted Chewie must feel in that moment, shooting at the son of Leia. Gotta admit, I'm surprised you didn't have a more emotional reaction to the "Ben" name reveal, especially after Obi-Wan Kenobi with his relationship with Leia, naming her son after name she first knew him as.
When you heard "Rey" in her force dream, it was Sir Alec Guinness as Obi Wan. The sound engineers found a clip of him saying the word "Afraid" and clipped it so that he would be in the movie. The storm trooper that released Rey was Daniel Craig (James Bond). The big complaint about Rey was that she was just automatically good at everything (Mary Sue).
@@mlong1958 I think the Rey issue is more complex than that. Luke grew up never knowing anything about the force or the Jedi, because Owen and Beru purposely kept it from him, so when he found out he could use it, he kept doubting. Rey on the other hand had been hearing the story all her life, but didn't believe them, so when she found out it was real and that she could use it, she was all in and just needed to figure out how it works. None of it worked the first time, like the force suggestion. She had to try a couple times before it worked. Same with the lightsaber. She was losing badly until she calmed herself.
@ This is so stupid. I’m just finding out Kylo Ren was 29 in the movie. Didn’t his training begin as a Padowan? Was he a slow learner? His training was incomplete. When Luke attacked him in TLJ he was a 28/29 year old Padowan? JJ Abrams really ruined everything.
@@faisalmemon285 I haven't read all of the books but his training, I think, started around 10, maybe. When Luke encountered Ben in TLJ he was roughly 6 or 7 yrs younger. That I do remember from a book. So, he was 22 or 23 at the time. I wouldn't put it all on JJ though. There were definitely other people involved.,
"Who is Snoke?" After you have already seen him. Later on: Hux, Ren and Snoke having a meeting. "OMG, who is this guy?" It's fucking Snoke. JC, Pay attention.

@thatnerdtara Thanks. The first one I picked especially for You, as I remember Your confusion on the title of a Moff and a Grand Moff as seen in the Season Finale of "The Mandalorian: Season One" . I hope You will appreciate my memory!
There's a lot of hate of these sequel movies (that I disagree with), and a few annoying little things, but it's all worth it. I'll not go into reasons, because that'd be super spoilery but I lived my entire life since 1977 thinking nothing could ever make Star Wars better. That very last line of Episode IX did. I can't wait to see your journey through these, and in particular your thoughts on that very last line.
@thatnerdtara I mentioned it because you wondered the last time Cad Bane was seen and this was in the Bad Batch. The next 2 seasons were better than the first especially the last one.
you wont see the main characters of the Star Wars tv series in these movies. Hopefully we get amazing stories in the Filoni verse movies coming out in the near future. I do like the sequel trilogy movies and I do understand the backlash for the 2nd one.
I recomend You viewing the following video by the Channel "SWFT" after You have seen the Sequel Trilogy called: "The Fall of The New Republic". I garanteed You, tears will flow... And now, a maniacal Laughter. Mwahha-haha-haha!
Unfortunately, the sequels do a lot of building up stories.. then completely dropping them with no pay offs... Due in large part to there being 2 different directors with different, and completely opposing views of the plot... George Lucas always had an idea of where his story was going, but, unfortunately, the sequels have no such cohesion, opting instead for the total chaos of nobody knowing what will happen next until AFTER it is already done...Episode 8 is, by far, the WORST offender of this... Episode 9 is also guilty as well...
That's because they never sketched out the entire sequel before filming began. Instead they just made shit up as they went along. That's Not the way to write a sequel. I hate these movies with the heat of a thousand suns.
Be warned, good chance the comments section for The Last Jedi will get extra nasty. Some uh, extremely divisive creative decisions were made. Might also be worth giving the old Expanded Universe/Legends books a look. There's some gems like the Thrawn Trilogy, though also some stinkers like the Crystal Star.
@@Voltar I'm serious! 😂 I dunno how else to say it the lore wasn't as complete as say the Prequels or OT, and that's expected as George Lucas wasn't doing crazy lore dives. He didn't write the treatment for this one. But it was an enjoyable film with fun scenes. It created it's own new canon, but was unable to complete it as much as the legends or expanded legends universe. I read a few books like Aftermath series and others, enjoyable books! And they are the new canon. But I haven't been too interested in the High Republic.
The Force Awakens - the beginning of the disaster. And seriously, this is a production created by a coward because it's a copy of A New Hope. What do we have Rey - Luke Kylo - Vader Snoke - Palpatine Han - Narratively kinda fits Kenobi Death Star 3 - Death Star Hux - Tarkin So I can congratulate them for their originality and idea. If I wanted to watch the new Hope, I would watch the New Hope, not a much worse copy that can't even answer basic questions about the film (world building). Simple question: What is the First Order? And why do they have another Death Star out of nowhere? (And to position yourself as someone from the premiere, you don't have any series that can help you answer these questions.)
I understand that you are going by the timeline but at the time this movie was made The Mandolorian and Asohka series weren't even a thought yet so none of those characters would be in this
Personally, I have A LOT of issues with the sequel trilogy, especially this one which, in my opinion, is nothing more than a "A New Hope" wannabe. Turn Rey into Luke, Finn into Han, Poe into Leia, Han into Ben, Kylo into Vader, BB-8 into R2 and it's basically the same plot. But, that said, I know a lot of people who enjoy the sequels. So, definitely watch these movies and decide for yourself.
I'm not one to get overly mad at movies, but the more I think about it, I am so mad with how they killed off Han Solo like that. After all the adventures he was on with everyone, after everything he's been through, he just falls into a seemingly endless void on the gutted planet of Ilum from TCW? Disney fumbled so badly with the sequels. The lore-breaking with Rey seemingly knowing everything is one thing, but Han dying like that is maddening. "It's not wise to upset a wookie" Han said, and he was right. Chewie lost it so much that he screamed out and shot Kylo Ren right in the gut and demolished the stormtroopers, also hitting the bomb detonator.
Whatever the events of the Mandalorian and Ahsoka is 30 years prior to this, so you'll not get your answers to their story here. (Remember, the show the Mandalorian didn't even exist when this movie was made) and the Jedi hasn't been a thing except a very handful few for 60 at this point, so there is no wonder a "child" like Rey, (20 years old tops) doesn't really think they're real,
This movie had such potential. Just wish they had had a plan for these movies. Just keep that in mind Tara if things start to seem confusing. The people making these movies tragically had no plan on where they were taking these movies.
@13:20 is kinda why the movie is so hated. She just suddenly conjured the ability to defeat a master of sabers and combat. Would you for the first time be able to defeat an NBA player at basketball? Do you think you could beat a Tennis champion at Tennis? That would be magic if you could. Why would a newbie like rey SUDDENLY out of no where simply be on parr with a Sith Master who snatches laser bolts out of the air. In the REAL Star Wars film, Luke Skywalker is seen at least TRAINING with the flying ball, undergoing hard work, and in the sequel he's enduring vigorous training in the swamp, and the 3rd final film he disappeared for a long time to train hard in becoming the last Master. This force awakening reveals that the creators are ignorant to the fact that Hard Work is the only road to greatness and it exposes they have the arrogance to believe that it should be just given to them because they are entitled. You, rey, or I cannot beat NBA players at basketball, it's just common sense.
Starkiller Base. What a rip-off. I have an alterior concept for a planet-size military base. A hyperspace-capable, mobile shipyard, capable of deploying whole fleets in minutes in any point in the galaxy. Immagine. The crust slowly rising, pushed by titanic pistons fueled by the Planets's own core. Underneath the surface the yards extract, process and build Star Destroyers from scratch. Using minerals from the world as well as imports from the First Order's many mining operations from across the Unknown Regions. At full capacity, Three-hundred vessels could make Their maiden voyage in less than half an hour. What do You think, Tara?
A book that came out before the movies had stories about Rey, Finn, and Poe. Rey had practiced with flight simulators. Before you say "I shouldn't have to read a book to understand it", I didn't need the book to understand that she may have had some knowledge or experience. The rest of the trilogy will explain other reasons why she does so well.
I actually enjoyed this movie wasn't bad at all.. The next two Movies ruined it for me.. Only certain things still was enjoyable, otherwise if you don't really think about things.
"How does she even know how to fly this thing?" Because Disney wants her to know how to fly a ship she's never been in... and have a light saber fight with a villain trained from birth despite the fact she's never seen a light saber... and use the force effectively... and on and on. If you watch these last three films while just going along with whatever they say it goes much more smoothly.
Disney sequel trilogy is a piece of crap. Disney screwed over george lucas by letting him believe that they were going to make his sequel trilogy that he was starting to work on already before selling Lucas Films. So Disney decided to make their own version of the sequel trilogy. This is found on Star Wars Archives, XL edition volume 1 and 2.
Ignore the internet venom. Watch these movies and decide for yourself.

But in terms of exactly how that will be fleshed out in the canon version of events, we still have to wait and see.
I'm looking forward to it, though. The New Republic era is my fsiera from Star Wars lore. ☺️
“I’m still a little confused on how we got to this point”, don’t worry J.J Abrams still is too 😆
So at this point in time, the new republic is around and they bounce the capital around. At this time, it is on Hosnian Prime. You actually have briefly met the Hosnian senator, Senator Xiono in Ahsoka. He was the one who disbelieved the threat of thrawn. The republic felt since it ‘won’ the war, it could begin to scrap the navy. Leia was ousted as a senator when her relation to vader was revealed and she was the voice to prepare for another war
The First Order is made from the loyalists of the Empire but enhanced with upgraded tech (again the seeds planted in Ahsoka).
Yeah hooo🎉🎉🎉
Not really, most sequel fans are either very old or very young.
People that grew up with the OT and disliked the PT usually end up liking the ST
First major changes happened in 1997, and have been ongoing ever since... I mentioned a few of the changes in my first post...
I didn’t even make that connection until just now 😭😭
When you heard "Rey" in her force dream, it was Sir Alec Guinness as Obi Wan.
I figured they did some trickery with his voice because it definitely wasn’t Ewan
It’s around a 20 year period between this film and Return of the Jedi.
30 to be exact.
@ Kylo Ren is not 30 years old.
@@faisalmemon285 If you're replying to me, then no he isn't. He's 29 in this movie. 30 yrs have passed since ROTJ, though.
There were definitely other people involved.,
"Who is Snoke?"
After you have already seen him.
Later on:
Hux, Ren and Snoke having a meeting. "OMG, who is this guy?"
It's fucking Snoke. JC, Pay attention.
I enjoyed your reaction...I enjoy all the Star War movies. Then again I'm not a hard core fan and know nothing of 'lore' or 'canon'.And I'm glad.Imagine trying to watch a movie, and all through it..."this is wrong".."this is wrong"..."this doesn't happen yet"...Ignore the many negative comments and make your own conclusions. If you don't care for the sequels, then at least it's your decision.
Well your not a huge star wars fan and don't understand why the fans disliked the sequels. It wasn't just for fun
@anarchy4102 You're right...I don't understand.I will never understand.I'll still watch whatever looks good to me in spite of 'fans' piling in to tell us not to watch cos it's garbage,it ruined their childhood, the original ideals were betrayed..etc..To be honest I could never be so obsessed over something to the point where,in your own words,"..it wasn't just for fun".Doing things should be fun..if not,why do them? But that's just me.I'm sorry I'm unable to see things from your viewpoint..I meant no disrespect for something you are passionate about. At least we can both enjoy some aspects of the same Star Wars?

@thatnerdtara Thanks. The first one I picked especially for You, as I remember Your confusion on the title of a Moff and a Grand Moff as seen in the Season Finale of "The Mandalorian: Season One" .
I hope You will appreciate my memory!
More baby
There's a lot of hate of these sequel movies (that I disagree with), and a few annoying little things, but it's all worth it. I'll not go into reasons, because that'd be super spoilery but I lived my entire life since 1977 thinking nothing could ever make Star Wars better. That very last line of Episode IX did. I can't wait to see your journey through these, and in particular your thoughts on that very last line.
Are you going to watch the Bad Batch series? This is a major story line between Clone Wars and Andor. Plus you will see a LOT of cameos!!
Yes, I will probably do that next! Only thing is that I have seen S1 already...I watched it before I even started this channel!
@thatnerdtara I mentioned it because you wondered the last time Cad Bane was seen and this was in the Bad Batch. The next 2 seasons were better than the first especially the last one.
There's rougly 30 years between Ep. 6 and 7. So no, stuff from the Mandoverse doesn't appear here
Welll, sorta. There’s some hints in the Mandoverse (and Bad Batch) about what happens in this sequel.
After the sequel def gotta do
Prequels
Clone wars
Obi wan
you wont see the main characters of the Star Wars tv series in these movies. Hopefully we get amazing stories in the Filoni verse movies coming out in the near future. I do like the sequel trilogy movies and I do understand the backlash for the 2nd one.
BB-8 is beeped & booped by Bill Hader
React to Star Wars episode 8 and 9
Hi❤😊
❤
u look amazing!😍
I saw this movie three times when it came out, enjoyed it.
It doesn't cannon that well, but Force Awakens is a fair fun movie. I enjoyed it and the process of it coming out back when.
@@Voltar I'm serious! 😂
I dunno how else to say it the lore wasn't as complete as say the Prequels or OT, and that's expected as George Lucas wasn't doing crazy lore dives.
What do we have
Rey - Luke
Kylo - Vader
Snoke - Palpatine
Han - Narratively kinda fits Kenobi
Death Star 3 - Death Star
Hux - Tarkin
So I can congratulate them for their originality and idea.
I understand that you are going by the timeline but at the time this movie was made The Mandolorian and Asohka series weren't even a thought yet so none of those characters would be in this
I know. I'm just curious about where they are at this point
Hehe, "Next movies will clear it up.."
Theres a big reason why og fans hate this Disney trilogy.
Chewie’s scream broke my heart
@@thatnerdtara How can they do -this- that? This is outrageous. It's *unfair!*
Whatever the events of the Mandalorian and Ahsoka is 30 years prior to this, so you'll not get your answers to their story here. (Remember, the show the Mandalorian didn't even exist when this movie was made)
and the Jedi hasn't been a thing except a very handful few for 60 at this point, so there is no wonder a "child" like Rey, (20 years old tops) doesn't really think they're real,
have you already set the prequels era already
Star Wars The Farce Awokens😂. Just kidding, I did enjoy this. But Snoke was a great but completely wasted character.
If into the recordings you go of future movies only pain will you find! ...STOP! Now!
I am not a fan of the sequels. However, I am a fan of your work. So I will rewatch these with you.
Exactly. Who is Snoke?? Who is Rey?? Ugh, I had so much hope with this movie. They were just jerking our chain!😕
This movie had such potential. Just wish they had had a plan for these movies. Just keep that in mind Tara if things start to seem confusing. The people making these movies tragically had no plan on where they were taking these movies.
They had a plan. Unfortunately the toxic fans forced them to change midstream.
@ that’s what I heard from the actors, and others who worked on the movies themselves.
That would be crazy!!
Episodes 7,8,9 are not cannon and not in books
Love how you say. How does she know that? Yes she's one of the most mary sue Characters you'll ever find😂😂😂.. It gets worse with other movies
Where’s the prequel reactions?

New trilogy is so bad I honestly forgot that "The Force Awakens" was a thing and made me wonder if I missed something new from SW universe, lol
Forgot all those lame characters like Bo Katan… they’re not part of the big picture!
Blasphemy!!
I actually enjoyed this movie wasn't bad at all.. The next two Movies ruined it for me.. Only certain things still was enjoyable, otherwise if you don't really think about things.
💩
"How does she even know how to fly this thing?" Because Disney wants her to know how to fly a ship she's never been in... and have a light saber fight with a villain trained from birth despite the fact she's never seen a light saber... and use the force effectively... and on and on. If you watch these last three films while just going along with whatever they say it goes much more smoothly.
I'll give that first light saber fight a bit of a pass as Kylo Ren was badly injured and bleeding out.
@@ronweber1402Plus, she knows how to use a staff and similar weapons. She's been fighting for her life every day for the last 14 years.
George Lucas modeled the Empire on the Nazi Regime. However, he didn't illustrate it fully.
J.J. Abrams finally nailed it.
You’ll be disappointed just like everyone else…
